Three and One with Pastor Dominic Dinger is a daily devotional podcast, with observations and an overview of three chapters from the Old Testament and one from the New.
Kings, kings and more kings, evil in the North, partially obedient in the South. Elisha dies. God is full of goodness and severity. And, the Apostle Paul shares the good news with the governor, Felix.
Death and destruction reign during the reign of Jehu. During the reign of Jehu in the North, a seven year old named Jehoash is crowned king in the South. Jehoash walked in the ways of the Lord, mostly. And, the Apostle Paul testifies before the Sanhedrin.
A siege ends. A severe famine ends at one word from the Lord. Lepers give the good news. God’s timing is perfect. Hazael hatches an awful plan. Evil kings in the north. Wicked kings in the south. Jezebel dies in Jezreel. And, the Apostle Paul gives his testimony in Jerusalem.
God miraculously provides for yet another widow. A proud military man is humbled and healed. An axe head floats. Spiritual eyes are opened. And, people are perplexed about Paul going to Jerusalem.
Ahaziah asks Baal-Zebub for help and God answers anyway through Elijah. Elisha asks for a double portion as Elijah ascends to heaven. Three kings are directed to dig ditches in the desert. And, the Apostle Paul exhorts the Ephesian elders.
Jezebel shows herself even more wicked then weak King Ahab, murdering a man just for land. Elijah rebukes. Ahab shows remorse. God relents. Israel and Judah join forces against Syria. Ahab dies. And, the believers in Ephesus are baptized with water AND with the Holy Spirit.
Jezebel writes Elijah. Elijah runs from Jezebel. Elijah complains to the Lord. The Lord comforts Elijah with a revelation and an exhortation. Silas and Timothy join Paul in planting the church in Corinth. And, Apollos is discipled by Pricilla and Aquila.
Elijah is sent with a message to Israel’s worst king. “No rain until I say so.” Elijah becomes Ahab’s enemy. God protects and provides for Elijah in unusual ways. Elijah challenges the false prophets to a fight of faith. The Apostle Paul plants churches and preaches Christ.
A young prophet finds courage. The same prophet compromises and pays the price. Judgment on the house of Jeroboam. Trouble in the house of Rehoboam. Each successive king did evil, except Asa. And, a church is planted in Philippi.
Wisdom, wealth and a wandering heart; Solomon had it all. His many wives turned his heart away from God. So God sent a series of adversaries. And, in the midst of that mess, Solomon died. And, Paul and Barnabas stand before the other Apostles in Jerusalem.
We see Solomon as a builder and a developer. The Ark is brought into the Temple. The glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord. Solomon dedicates the Temple. God appears a second time to Solomon. And, Barnabas and Saul obey the Holy Spirit’s call to spread the gospel.
King Solomon’s administration is listed for us. We see the prosperity and wisdom of Solomon’s reign. Solomon prepares to build to the Temple. Solomon builds the Temple. And… the Holy Spirit says… “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."
Adonijah presumes to be King. Solomon is proclaimed as King. David gives final words of wisdom to Solomon. David dies. Solomon carries out his father’s wishes. Solomon asks for wisdom. God gives it, liberally. And, Peter is freed from prison during a prayer meeting.
The Psalmist sings once last time. The distressed, indebted and discontented are now mighty men and their exploits are outlined for us. David does something he greatly regrets. And, the gospel spreads among the Gentiles.
After the death of Absalom, David returns to Jerusalem. Conflict ensues as Israel and Judah enter into yet another civil war. David avenges the Gibeonites, defeats the giants and God opens up the gospel to the Gentiles.
David endures news of betrayal, cursing and even stones as he continues on his way out of Jerusalem. Ahithophel’s advice is overturned. Overwhelmed, Ahithophel ends his own life. Absalom’s life is ended by David’s general Joab. And, we are introduced to another murderous man named Saul.
Amnon does something truly awful. Absalom ends up murdering Amnon for what he did. Tensions build in Absalom’s dysfunctional relationship with his dad, David, ending up in Absalom stealing the throne. And, the apostles encounter true and false conversions.
The Ammonites make a costly mistake in misinterpreting the kindness of King David. David makes a mistake of his own. Initially hiding his sin, until God helps him to confess by confronting him. And, Stephen stands in the power of the Holy Spirit.
David wants to build a house for God. But instead, God establishes David’s house, forever. David continues to conquer the enemies of Israel. Because of a covenant, David is kind to a man named Mephibosheth. And, seven are chosen to serve.
Ishbosheth is murdered. Mephibosheth is introduced. David rules all Israel, fights and defeats the Philistines, twice, after inquiring of the Lord, twice. David learns to worship God in the beauty of holiness. And,Peter preaches the gospel once again, this time to the religious rulers.
