Speaker 1 (00:08):
Welcome to Truth Be Told about Going Wild. I'm your host,
Robert Hensley, and this is the podcast inspired by the
principles of personal rewilding. Today, I'd like to talk a
little bit about the alignment, our alignment to the natural world,
to the rhythms and cycles of nature. We have an

(00:31):
event coming up here on this end in August. It
is a full moon meditation, and it got me thinking
about how you looking at the full moon and these
regular cycles, right, can help us to feel more aligned
with the natural world, and what does that mean. So

(00:53):
let's talk specifically about this full moon coming up in
August August ninth. Right, it reaches its peak sometime after
three am. This moon coming up is often referred to,
depending on where you are in North America, either the
Sturgeon moon or the grain moon, sometimes the green corn moon.
But this marks kind of the start of the harvest season, right,

(01:17):
This is the transition into late summer. What we have
been sewing all summer long is now ready to be reaped,
right to take in that harvest. Specifically around the Great
Lakes region in the northeast and kind of north central,

(01:37):
this is known as the Sturgeon moon. This is when
indigenous peoples would have fished for sturgeon in the Midwest,
you know, depending on where you are, this was the
time when you know, grains were getting ready to be
taken in. Corn is still green, but it's starting to

(01:57):
show fruit. And it's a time to really start looking
at and experiencing themes of abundance, of gratitude, of being
able to take stock of the accomplishments and the things

(02:18):
that have come up to this point in the year. Right. Now,
here's the thing, right with all full moons, right, no
matter what the month, all full moons are seen as amplifiers, right,
They amplify emotions and intuition and are usually seen as

(02:38):
good times for introspection and connecting with our inner self, right,
and especially if we're on a path of rewilding, to
connect with that inner wild self, right, our wild being.
And so how you utilize this time around the full

(02:58):
moon is really up to you, but it can be
I think a great time for community building, for group activities.
Again not necessarily pulling everyone into this idea of the
full moon and taking it all in, but again just
being able to, you know, look at a community garden

(03:20):
and see what's about to come in and having you know,
a little gratitude lunch or invite you know, school kids
to write about, you know, what they're excited for, you know,
this far in the year, what have they what were
their goals and what are they hoping to accomplish for
the rest of the summer before before school goes back

(03:40):
in or you know, things like this again using it
as a way of gathering people together and really having
an experience that is nature based. So yeah, I just
thought that it was really important because we talked so
much about, you know, our connection to nature, our connection

(04:02):
to the natural world, how we need to find alignments
and how do we do that, And so I also
wanted to include in today's episode a few things, a
few steps that we can take right to really make
the most of the full moon in this time that's coming.
And that would be number one. To write in your journal, right,

(04:23):
if you are journaling, or if you're not journaling yet,
might be a great time to start or just make
a list on a piece of paper that you carry
in your pocket for a little while. You know, but
what are the goals, what are the things that you
started this spring? Right? What did you prepare for all winter,
and then in the spring there was something, there's some idea,
something that you started right when the world came back

(04:44):
to life. And then you've been nurturing this concept, this idea,
this want, this desire all through the spring and now
through the summer. And we're getting to that point where
we should be seeing the return on our labor, right,
our return on our investment. What is that thing? Has
it come to fruition? And if it hasn't, right, what

(05:09):
do we still need to do to make that happen
before autumn? Right? And you know, write down the names
of the people and the things that you're thankful for.
What who has given you assistance, What things have happened
that have kind of helped to push your goal forward.
Are you grateful for those things? And again, maybe it's

(05:29):
maybe it simply is just your garden. You know, maybe
you did you planted all of these seeds and now
you are incredibly thrilled with the results that you're getting
in your garden, and you're grateful and you're thankful, and
you're really looking forward to you know, canning and preserving
these vegetables for your family. And and that's okay. It
doesn't have to be something beyond that. It can just

(05:52):
be a you know, a simple connection, right. And then
also when we talk about connect we want to talk
about the elements. How do the elements kind of fit in?
And again, anytime that we're talking about the full moon
or we're talking about some aspect of nature, it's easy

(06:12):
to find connections to you know, earth, air, fire, and water. Right.
We talk about the earth, we're talking about the fertile
soil where all of our you know, our plants grow.
We're talking about air, the breeze that carries pollen from
plant to plant. You know, that gives flight to the
bees and the birds. We're talking about fire, that that's

(06:37):
the sunshine, right, Plants need that for photosynthesis, we need
that for vitamin D. We you know, we can't live
without it. And then water, of course is the rain.
You know, maybe you're in the northeast like i am,
and it's been raining in bucket loads, but still that rain,
that water is absolutely necessary, especially when we have of

(07:00):
you know, a landscape that is coming out of a
super drought, right, and all of those things become very
important to our our environment, right, and how we're able
to survive here. So, yeah, so if you are interested
at all, you know, google the August full moon, look

(07:21):
at the Sturgeon moon, look to see what the you know,
you can always google like what is the spiritual meaning
of this? Or you know, how should I celebrate that?
Or whatever it'll give you. You'll find tons of information. Right
The Internet is a great resource, not saying that we
should give up technology altogether, and I think that it's
really important that we utilize that to learn as much

(07:42):
as we can, because again, what we learn we can
then take out into the natural world and it will
help us to observe more fully, to really find a
stronger connection with the environment when we know more about it,
and if that means doing a little research ahead of time,
that it's okay. All right, So thank you so much
