(00:21):
subjects you would like us to cover next.
Because this podcast ain't just ours, it's yours too.
Anyway, let's get into the episode.
Jack's about to walk in the studio.
Welcome to the We RT 1D podcast The.
Real Estate type 1 diabetes podcast online hosted by myself
Mike. Diagnosed at the age of 10.
(00:42):
And myself, Jack diagnosed at the age of 30.
We are just two mates giving youan insight into life with this
chronic condition. Yes, we are adults and although
we try not to swear, it may happen occasionally.
Yeah, as Jack said, we are adults.
But please take what we say as guidance and not medical advice.
(01:03):
No. Trust me, we are not doctors.
We are just here to make sure notype 1 diabetic ever, ever feels
alone. Hi.
Hey, welcome to the show, Jack. I'm glad you joined us.
Am I here? Am I here?
You are here, so how you been? Yeah, I'm good.
(01:24):
I'm very, very good at sleep. I'm all right, struggling a bit
with levels. That's normal.
Yeah, pretty much. Not pretty much.
No, yeah, it's been weird lately.
I don't know. Just it's up, then it's down,
then it's steady, then it goes up, then it goes back down.
And I don't know. Relatable.
(01:54):
Yeah, it's just a pain in the ass.
I can't get it right at the moment.
But yeah, it's not been bad. It's not been bad.
It's nothing really I can do apart from just crack on, get on
with it. That's it.
How about you? How have you been?
I've been good, I'm off work this week so I'm absolutely
loving it. You all right mate?
(02:16):
Yeah, did you not hear that? No.
No, the mic obviously cut it outof my lap.
I'm just went off. I'm 3.4.
Oh no, Hypo Jack. Yeah, I'm all right though.
I won't say anything that needs a response really quickly or any
jokes that will probably fly over your head twice then.
But they've got over my head anyway mate so I make no
(02:38):
difference. Yeah, As for my week, I've been
off this week and yeah, I've enjoying it.
I'm enjoying not going to work. Suppose that.
I'll bet you are. I'm going to the gym eating
food, which I do anyway, but it's more what I want to eat.
(03:02):
Yeah, I'm meal prepping literally all my meals now
pretty much, and it's just so much better for me.
And my levels are better. Not perfect, never will be, but
they're better. That's good.
It's flat. We've switched places.
Yeah, weird isn't? It yeah, we've done a swap.
At least you know when it gets shit, it gets better because I'm
(03:25):
in the better bit and you're in the shit bit.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think I just need to do, you
know, I think the big thing is training with me.
Like I really think I need to just start training again
because obviously that me not training now as opposed to just
before Christmas when I was likereligiously my levels have just
(03:49):
been shit. Not shit shit, but just like
hard to manage. Yeah, I saw a video online.
It was saying like, look, just basically look after yourself
and be there and make yourself better.
Because if you're not better, who are you there for?
Like I, I saw some sort of videolike that and one day it just
(04:12):
clicked and I fell in love with the gym again.
I love putting my body through pain.
Yeah, you really have. And it's it's nice to see and to
be honest, it's given me a big kick up the ass more and more.
I see you go training. I'm like, I'd I really need to
start again, man. I really need to start.
It's sort of like a competition because I'm seeing your progress
(04:35):
and I'm like Rob, I need to keepup.
Exactly. But but that's the thing.
Like my competition is myself. I use an app called Heavy.
I don't know if you've ever heard of it, but basically it
tracks your progress in the gym.So I'm determined every week I
(04:57):
will be a Rep, I will go up a weight, I will always hit APB
every time I go. So I'm like, yes, I'm better in
myself because I just did better.
I'll bet it makes you feel fucking ecstatic when you've
done that as well. Oh yeah, like that.
Just like when you've done 1 push, one push over your PB and
you're just like yes I miss thatfeeling man, I miss that
(05:20):
feeling. Get back into it mate.
Seriously go sign up. Enjoy it it because it's also
made me sort out my diet. Well yeah, that that is the
thing as well. That is the thing.
I am pretty good at work. It's when I get home and as I
say, I'm very lazy in the evenings now so it's always a
quick slap dash dinner as opposed to you remember 6 months
(05:42):
ago I was eating fucking of, well, eggs.
Eggs used to make really when itwas eggs and salad.
That's it. And and now funny enough, I used
to take the piss out of you for eating salad.
I have a salad a day. I can't get enough of salad.
It is so easy in it. So easy, yeah.
(06:04):
Just loads of leaves, some carrots or whatever, Chuck a bit
of meat on job done. You don't even have to inject
and, and if I look at my smart pen right now, I haven't
injected for 19 hours and 4 minutes today and we're
recording this at 622 PMI haven't injected today.
Obviously I've done my basil. I'm in range.
(06:25):
Watch it go high now just to be a bitch.
Yeah, I'm in range. I'm happy.
Yeah, that's good. That's good, man.
But I am on a low carb right now.
It just makes everything easier to cut down portion sizes.
Even you can increase your portion sizes if you don't put
(06:45):
the quart carbs on there. It's mad.
Yeah, yeah, what? You can eat as much leaf as you
want. In it.
Don't leave that out mate, put it on your.
Plate, you know, I knew that wascoming.
I knew it was coming. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but yeah,
(07:07):
that's, that's pretty much I started a bit.
I've finally done the order for the clothing for Fed as well,
the brand I spoke about the other week.
So I'm happy about that. If you want to read up on it,
just go to wert1d.com and there's a blog post on it.
I'm not going to go on about it too much, but it launches about
(07:27):
the 1st of September. All right, so I'm leaving it at
that. Yeah.
So look out for that. Yeah.
We also met up, didn't we, during the last weekend.
We did. It was lovely.
It was so nice to meet up actually.
Yeah, it was. We haven't seen each other
properly for a while. We went and done a little bit of
painting. We did.
(07:48):
Right, come along as well, of course.
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
So we got there before Jack did, right?
It was like, Oh yeah, I was justcoming up to Waterloo.
I was like, all right, So I was so hypo.
I'm not even joking. I was 2.9.
I I don't know if Jack knew whatI was saying on the phone.
Yeah, well, I remember, yeah, I remember being in Costas and I
(08:10):
was just walking up to the counter and as I put the phone
to my ear, I'm ringing you. You've answered the phone.
I was literally going to be a 10second phone call.
Like where are you? Right.
Yeah, call. I'm in Costas.
I'll see you soon. You just started waffling and
the ladies looking at me, waiting for me to select my
order and I'm standing here on the phone like hold on, hold on,
hold on. Like trying to talk.
I was just like my right just fuck off.
(08:34):
Yeah, I was. I was just wandering around.
I was like Riley, I just need tostop and not move.
And then I think you got to the tunnel and we had walked to a
shop or something. Yeah, I wanted ice cream.
I was craving ice cream. I spent £4 on ice cream but it
was worth it because it got me out of.
My life, yeah. I remember you moaning about
that as well. Fucking expensive but it's worth
(08:56):
it all right. Could have got free for free
quid from little man. It's pissed me right off they
they took advantage of me because I was hypo.
It's definitely through you coming.
Yeah, definitely. And I was walking back to the
tunnel, right. He goes, your alarm going off.
So no, I don't have that alarm. And he then I go, oh, it might
(09:18):
be Jacks. And then we walk up and was that
I'm just like, Jack, was that your alarm?
And you go, yeah. Yeah, but that didn't last long
though, did it? Because I, like you said, I was
going low. I remember I was going low.
I felt low, so I was a bit shaky.
So I had a cappuccino with me. I had already done some units on
the train just before I got off of Waterloo.
(09:39):
That's I think that's why I've obviously done it too early and
it kicked in because I knew I was going to get a coffee.
I then forgot about it halfway through, about 3/4 of the way
through painting, my alarm went off again and I looked at it and
it was my high alarm. And I remember I just looked at
my phone. I think I was halfway through
doing my character maybe, and I was, you know, I'll deal with
that in a SEC. Completely forgot about it.
(10:00):
Then you've opened a packet of really nice paprika crisps.
Oh, how nice were they? They were actually nice.
They were very nice. It was a big bag, by the way.
It's a share bag. It was no little bag of crisps,
Yeah. And he did share, trust me.
Yeah, so yeah, I've had a few ofthem and I was just like, oh,
I'm not going to eat lows. I'm I was going high last time
(10:23):
left. It didn't even feel high.
I had no symptoms of like headachy or eyes feeling bad.
My other alarm went off. I think I here we go low again.
Looked at it. What was I like 16.5 or
something going straight up. So as yeah, that put me in a bad
mood. I didn't want to eat no food.
And I hadn't even injected and still ate these crisps and I
(10:46):
stayed all right. Yeah, you kept so I remember you
kept saying to me, have some Fias, just some fias.
Go on, have some. Have a bit of Fias.
Go on, have some Fias. It works quickly.
You'll be all right. Yeah.
I've got spare needles, don't worry.
Yeah, we won't share needles. People don't.
I No, no, no. I bought my own.
It's some I bought from him. Then we've done the painting.
(11:12):
All that was great. Riley doing his bits, writing in
his sketchbook. I love it.
Yeah. Just the great was probably 3 to
4 hours I think was down the tunnel for.
Yeah, at least easy. And then we leave and I finally
go high myself. I remember that started to go
high. So I was like, Jack, my eyes,
man, my eyes. And I was like explaining my
symptoms. He goes, yeah, they're the ones
(11:34):
I get. It's like, oh, we matchy,
matchy. Yeah, we're both going.
I'm stuck at like 16 with Nova Rapid not being so rapid.
Mike's getting the hump because he keeps looking at his watch
and it's just going up and up and up and up.
And Riley sat next to both of us, eating a fucking pizza.
(11:55):
That is it, yeah. He goes.
Do you want to slice that? I go.
I'm high anyway. Go on then.
Yeah, you did. I was.
Disciplined. Yeah, I won't have none, don't
worry. Yeah.
Oh, that was really good day. Oh, was it coming back?
It was Oasis. It was Oasis concert coming
back, by the way, on the train. Oh, it's packed.
(12:16):
Yeah, I've realized that when I got home.
And then I was thinking like, why is it so busy?
And then, yeah, that clicked in my head when I saw everyone with
Oasis T-shirts on. Yeah, I said Riley.
Expect to see loads of Adidas, loads of bucket hats and loads
of people just drunk. Out in the sunshine.
(12:40):
I I don't know if I'd want to see a racist though.
I like him, but I don't think I'd go and see him.
I don't know. My missus asked if I wanted to
go and see him. I said maybe.
Going low in there, maybe you'd be the one to save.
Me Whoosh. Jack, you're going high.
(13:06):
Don't look back in Anchor. What did you say?
Now we can wish, but we ain't done time in range for a while,
have we? No, we haven't.
We do. We do that time in range time.
I'm quite nervous. Do you want me to go first?
(13:28):
Oh. Don't mind me.
My lows are going to scare the crap out of you, right?
So I'm 74%. OK, that makes me feel a little
bit better. You've you've beat me, but it
makes me feel a bit better. That makes me feel good.
Been eating like a fucking rabbit.
When was it? It was actually on the train.
I'm sure it was. No, it was down the tunnel when
(13:49):
we was painting and we both looked at our timing ranges then
and you was beating me and you was like, bruv can't be going to
record the podcast. No, you.
Know that's it. Yeah, it's fine.
I've got my wish, yes. Yeah, you have.
You've beat me. So you are 74.
I am 72% in range. Oh well, we're basically the
same then. Yeah, that's good joke.
(14:11):
Let's start from the top. So anything over 13 is 9%, then
12%, seventy 2% and then my hypos are 7%.
OK. So mine is from top to bottom,
3%, six percent, 74 percent, 17%lows.
(14:34):
Wow, that's a lot bro. There's a lot in it.
They've they've actual hypos. Is it a basal problem or is?
Yeah, where I've lost loads of weight.
More sensitive. I need to reduce my basil.
That's why I've fasted today as well, to make sure my levels are
(14:57):
right and they're not. So yeah, if you lose weight,
people, make sure you reduce your basil.
That's all I'm going to say. If you lose fat in your body,
reduce your basil. Yeah, 100%.
And also it's just the general because you're working out,
you're just going to be more sensitive to insulin.
Yeah, it's that simple. All my hires are from gym
(15:18):
because I refuse to be like perfectly arranged for the gym.
I refuse. You can it's but it's too hard.
I've tried it so many times whenI was training and it's it's
like it takes a lot of experience and a lot of working
out, put it that way. But if you're doing heavy
strength training, 9 times out of 10 you are going to spike
that. Is it simple?
(15:39):
Yeah, and I know it's that when you think about the stress your
body's going under, though. Yes, my well, that is where they
say you think that when you're lifting heavy weights.
That's where they're saying it comes from, getting ripped.
You are tearing and damaging your muscles.
Oh I noticed it after leg day aswell.
Jesus Christ, did I have a hypo that night?
(16:00):
Oh my. God, oh, oh, oh, legs.
Honestly, legs. And yeah, that is a very, I
noticed that when I used to do leg workouts, like anything,
just even on leg presses or squats or anything like that,
RDLS it, it just made you so sensitive hours later.
Yeah, I'm not even joking. Like, yeah, I was just low all
(16:20):
night, genuinely low as well. They it's the biggest muscle of
the body in it. Your arse, your legs, whatever
it's going to, it's going to take everything to try and
repair that. That big muscle man got a big
Bundo in it, man. Got a big bundo?
You got a fat bundle still? Oh my.
(16:43):
Wow. But yeah, so that was that was
that was a hyper night. I always I put my phone on
vibrate to go to bed, but yeah. Yeah, my thing, there tends to
be a very big pattern with mine at the moment and it is every
single night on the dot at 11 PMI will go hypo.
(17:08):
I will treat my hypo with nothing more than literally like
a few grams. I'm not over treating it.
I promise you that. I'm not over maybe 1011g at the
most. So from a hypo at like 3.4 that
should level me out at about 7:00.
Yeah, in theory. In theory, but then every night
(17:31):
between I'd say 2:00 AM and 3:00AM, it will shoot up and it will
go as high as this morning, for instance, I hit 21.
Right, this sounds mental. You know you're low.
Have you ever tried not treatingit?
The one before bed sounds mental.
I've thought about it a few times to be honest, but I do if
(17:51):
I wasn't so I have to if I if I didn't have so many symptoms at
the time. That's fair, yeah.
I don't think I would, but nine times out of 10 I really do feel
it because it goes as low as like 3.
I'm talking like 3 point twos, 2point nines, maybe lower than
that. Yeah.
So I am literally sitting there sweating the full works shaking,
(18:13):
feeling like I like I don't knowwhat's going on so it has to be
treated. Yeah, no, no.
If you feel like that though, you should treat it anyway.
But you know me, I'm I just do theories.
The only other thing I have thought of is possibly setting
my higher alarm instead of it being at like 10, setting my
high alarm for maybe around like8.5.
(18:38):
Yeah. So if it hits that, then maybe I
can wake up and treat instead ofwaiting for it to actually go
really high. But then I don't want to be too
hasty and treat too quickly because then I could end up
going back hyper again. Do you know what I mean?
It's just. It is a vicious circle.
It is, mate, and it does your brain and it literally does your
brain, yeah. But I'm going to, I'm waiting
(19:00):
for the weekend to do it so I'veactually got time to deal with
it in case it fucks up. I'm going to try what you said
and I'm going to shift my long lasting Lantis injection to the
mornings and then see if that has any sort of effect.
Yeah, I think in theory we're going theory again.
(19:21):
It should work. Well, yeah, I was thinking about
it the other day and if I because I go hypo during the day
quite a lot because I'm at work and I'm so active, it's sort of,
I'm sort of thinking of timings. So that's usually around 12 one
o'clock, like sort of lunchtime. It's as soon as I introduce any
sort of insulin into my system it just fucking plummets.
(19:44):
Yeah. So, and maybe if I flip that
because I'm taking it 8:00 at night, if I take it 8:00 in the
morning, technically that low sugar, if it is to do with my
basil that low that's come in attwelve 1:00 will come at twelve
1:00 at night, which is when my body naturally raises up.
So it's going to counter your lunchtime lows.
(20:05):
Yeah. And it always seems to peak at
about, like I say, about 10:11-ish because I've always
got low. Yeah.
So again, maybe if that's shifted, that could then maybe
be dealing with my morning glory.
Yeah. Because it's the same sort of
timings, you're just switching it 12 hours really.
So if it is the basil making my body do this mad shit, if I
(20:28):
shift everything over 12 hours, hopefully it should all twist
around and it could work out. And we'll find out after the
weekend. Yeah, we will.
We will because I'm going to shift it on Friday.
So I'm going to what I'm going to have to do is do my injection
normally on Thursday, yeah, and then not do any basil whatsoever
until Saturday morning. Yeah, maybe have a low carb day.
(20:50):
Yeah, so Friday night I could possibly run higher, so I'll
just have to be on guard with the corrections.
Yeah, which you do. You go high anyway, so it
wouldn't matter. Exactly that, yeah.
I have to wake up and fucking deal with all the time.
Yeah, yeah. I'll say I have a report back on
(21:10):
that and hopefully it works out.Yeah, I'm really curious myself.
If all else fails, I think I'm just going to hound my care team
until you either give me a pump or tell me how to split my
lantus maybe into two different dosages, or put me on a
completely different insulin altogether.
Levemir is the only insulin I know that you take morning and
(21:33):
night. I'm actually curious if there's
any others out there. If anyone knows can you please
get in the comments because it'll really help Jack out and
also anyone listening. Yeah, it would do.
And if anybody is on Lantus or has been on Lantus in the past,
and I don't know whether you've split your dosage, if so, please
let me know how you got on with that and like sort of how it
(21:55):
works. And yeah, because I'm open to
trial and error. I know you, but I'm going to
have to put me body for a bit ofshit for a couple of days until
you get spot on. That's just what happens when
you're chopping and changing shit.
So yeah, I'm I'm I'm open to ideas.
Oh, he's going to listen to other people for once.
Yeah, bit, bit, bit more of AI. Don't know, like I say, I
(22:17):
haven't caught like you're, you're not on Landers, you never
have been on Landers. There's not a lot of people in
our group chat community that are on Landers either.
So I haven't really got a wide range of knowledge apart from
shit I can find online. I've heard people complain about
the lower Landers. There's like the low wow.
Yeah. So I yeah, I have seen that as
(22:39):
well, like it always has sort oflike a really peak time.
Yeah. So that's what I'm saying, maybe
if I can shift it and that peak time might be in the mornings
where my body needs it the most instead of in the evenings.
Yeah, so I nearly sneezed. Yeah, I know.
I saw. I saw you go.
Who it's? Like, like a cartoon.
In it, but yeah. So everything.
(23:07):
Yeah, I think that is, I think that pretty much covers
everything that we've done this week.
Yeah. So guys, get in the comments,
help Jack out. Get in the comments, help us
out. Get on the website, find out
about the new fitted brand that is yeah, fully endorsed by this
podcast. Yeah, fully supported.
(23:27):
And. Yeah.
Hope you have a nice week. That's about it.
Yeah. Thank you very much for joining
us. We should see you again, same
time, same place, back again next week and we may be back
again with a story. Yes.
Who knows? Who knows?
Do you enjoy the stories as well?
(23:47):
Oh, you must. Do you submit them?
Yeah. Oh, that's a good point.
If you do have any stories whilewe're on the subject, please hit
us up, send them in. We would love to hear your
stories. We would love to hear your.
Well, yeah, I don't know. I was going to say stories
again. I'm I'm waffling.
It's still a bit low. We really have switched roles
(24:08):
and we. Yeah, I'm so tired, Mike.
Right. So yeah, here's up on the
socials guys. We are T1D.
He is T1D under score Jack. I am T1D under score Mike
website is we are T1 d.com and we shall speak to you next week.
(24:30):
And go and follow fitted oh fitted FITT 1D.
That's it. It's on Facebook as well but I
could only get fitted UK. That's good enough.
Yeah, yeah, that's all I could get.
Some geezer thought he was a fitguy and took it anyway.
Bye. Everyone see you later.
