(00:00):
Right. Welcome back to the WE RT 1D
Podcast and guess who's back? Jack's back.
Oh yes. Oh yeah, sorry, I was away last
week, everyone. Yeah, wayward of fairies.
I have been for a long time, butI'm back.
I'm here, black on planet Earth.Don't worry, Mike, you did
fantastic last week. I did listen.
(00:20):
And I will say, even though it was aimed at parents, I don't
have children. It really did hit me hard and I
very nearly shed a tear. I have, you know.
Oh so yeah, well done mate. Thank you.
It must be the way I present myself because I'm me.
(00:42):
I was trying to do your old music video.
I am. I am me.
Oh, they don't know about that, do they?
I'm sure some people have seen it.
All right, let's roll to normal intro.
Welcome to the We Are T1D podcast.
The Realist Type 1 Diabetes podcast online hosted by myself
(01:05):
Mike diagnosed at the age of 10.And myself, Jack diagnosed at
the age of 30. We are just two mates giving you
an insight into life with this chronic condition.
Yes, we are adults and although we try not to swear, it may
happen occasionally. Yeah, as Jack said, we are
adults. But please take what we say as
(01:26):
guidance and not medical advice.No.
Trust me, we are not doctors. We are just here to make sure no
type 1 diabetic ever ever feels alone.
So Jack, what have you been up to?
Actually, let's not talk about us.
Has everyone else's like timeline on their social media?
(01:48):
Add a blonde thing on it. I've been sent it multiple
times. Yeah, TikTok.
Instagram. Yeah, I think it's fantastic
though. It's really good.
And the amount of people that I've seen saying that they wish
they had one when they was younger.
What? What you're.
I'm sure everyone knows what it is.
(02:09):
I'm controlling. I'm trying to keep this
professional now, but we could go so many directions with this.
Don't do it, Mike. But the direction we're going is
T1D is getting a bit of media. Yeah, it's good.
So if anyone hasn't seen, which I highly doubt, there's now AT1D
Barbie. Yeah.
(02:30):
That has a sensor, has an insulin pump.
And I'm sure it's got a phone that displays a sugar level.
Oh yeah, there's a little phone in her bag.
There is a phone, isn't it? Yeah.
I knew I'd saw it somewhere. I just, I just went on Instagram
and typed in type 1. Yeah, it's just just like every
everyone I follow just got T1 ortype one in their name.
(02:51):
So I thought I was narrowing it down, but it weren't.
Yeah. So Barbie has partnered with
Breakthrough T1D, which is was formerly JDRF.
And yeah. I want an action man.
So do I, because I'm not. I'm not going to go out and buy
a Barbie. No, I would, but I'd let me wife
(03:12):
have it even though she's not diabetic.
No, but she'll be like, like youthink any kid that's getting
that as a present like that is type 1 direct, like they're
going to feel equal. Mate I've seen some children on
my Instagram like with the wherethe parents control their pages
or it might just be the parents actual page and they're putting
(03:35):
pictures of the kids holding theBarbie doll.
And honestly the joy and the smiles on these children's faces
is like that just says it all Like that is exactly what
they've done it for. Like to make all them little
girls feel normal. Yeah, and that's what it is.
Accepting who? You are 100%.
(03:57):
For little girls and all that, Barbie's the big image, isn't
it? Like it does inspire little kids
to be a certain way. That's why Barbie went in the
direction of having different careers and all this malarkey.
Not getting into it, but I watched the Barbie movie.
I did. I haven't.
(04:17):
They need to do a Barbie 2 movieand bring in the T1D.
That's what they need to do next.
I'm saying it first. So if it happens, guys, you just
just know Mike said it. But yeah, no, it's just a story
of acceptance. But I do.
I don't want a Ken T1D. Boys, don't buy a Ken.
(04:39):
No. Is Action Man even a thing
anymore? I don't know, maybe a car boot?
Yeah, I don't think you can actually go and buy Action Men
anymore. Can.
You, and if they are, they're probably vintage and overpriced.
Yeah. Yeah.
So I'd like to see one for the boys A. 100%.
Some T1D figure, yeah, I love the direction that this has gone
(05:00):
in. So Barbie and breakthrough T1D
partnering on this one is massive, massive news and I'm
really happy about it. Yeah, well done.
I just can't wait for the videosof kids saying Barbie's hypo and
just shoving chocolate cake in her face or something like that,
squirting apple juice in her eye.
(05:23):
Shoving her in an ice cream. Hey, you'll be all right.
That's it. No, it's so good.
It is so good. But right away from that news,
Jack, how have you been though? I've been OK.
We've been OK. I've yeah, been all right mate,
been a bit stressful lately. I've had a bit of downed,
(05:47):
obviously our maids, obviously people that follow me on
Instagram probably saw my post. That's like, I've been away from
Instagram quite a while because I've just had to be away and
clear the edge and work things out.
But I'm back now and I feel good.
I feel positive, I'm motivated and yeah, it's, it's good.
It's good. I feel good.
(06:08):
I feel good. It's really good to hear.
Yeah, I've just been, I've been looking after myself.
That is literally what I've beenup to.
I've been doing exactly what I want and that pretty much just
involves London spray paint and loads of food.
Do you need to eat to stay alive?
Do you know what I've over the past?
(06:29):
I'd say probably 2-3 months at least twice a month because of
where I go to London so much. I always go to the same pizza
stand. I think I'm immune to pizza.
My blood sugar levels are sweet. You watch.
Next time I'll have it now it will go and fucking hey, I've
(06:50):
cheeked myself. Especially if I'm there.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, but no, I've, I've sort of
clocked it. It's start off little and then
I've sort of like every hour or so just cut more, cut more, cut
more. Oh, what units are you talking
about? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Don't like obviously to take thefull whack straight away, like
(07:14):
split, split the dose, man, likedo.
Especially when obviously, as you know, when we go to London
we do a hell of a lot of walking.
Yeah, it's true. So it's yeah.
And that's I think that it's thefirst few times I ended up going
hypo, but I've got it now so I'mglad I've I've really need to go
(07:34):
to the gym mic because all the pizzas are now taking its toll
and I've got a belly. Jack got a belly.
I've got a belly. Look at my steps for today.
25,000 steps. And seven.
Don't forget the seven. I'm going to check my because I
know I've done quite a few. But yeah, you're talking about
the belly. Obviously.
(07:55):
I've had the idea to start a fitness brand.
Now what is it? A fitness brand it is it is
fitness based because the movingfor a diabetic is better control
if you're active and moving evenif it's just steps alone, your
type 1 diabetes control is much better.
So I've, I'm starting a brand which is called fitted, which is
(08:20):
spelled FITT 1D. So it's fit type 1 diabetics.
So I'm going to, I've put out a actual little core 28 day
routine that I've designed and I'm doing it myself and I'm
currently on day four and doing that each morning.
My insulin is already more sensitive in the morning.
(08:43):
Obviously I feel better about myself because I'm support my
it's not Even so much getting a six pack.
It's the fact I'm more comfortable sitting down because
my core is supporting my whole body like.
So what is this? What is this 30 day?
What sort of exercises are you doing so.
(09:04):
There's planks, crunches, dead bugs, Russian twists, bicycle
kicks, hollow body holds like it's, it's not hard.
It's like in the morning for week 1.
So I've set it out for week 1, week two, week three-week 4.
Foundation is just building up that original, like getting your
(09:24):
quarterback alive basically on the first week.
And then Week 2 is going to pushyour core a bit more.
Now it's awake. And then week 3 is going to
build the strength up in your core even more.
And then week 4 you should actually see ABS, right?
It's called shred and define week 4.
I think I needed more than 30 days to fly ABS, but obviously.
(09:48):
Fair, well I'm on day four and I'm my top 2 ABS have already
popped back out. I'm so happy.
Yeah. I don't know I've.
Got I've got a nice, I've got a nice little insulin winter pouch
going on. Winter pouch.
So yeah, that's outside that andthen I'm going to do some gym
(10:11):
wear as well. Nice, nice.
So what sort of gym were we talking bro?
Because I will be your first customer, of course I will.
So it's it's just active wear mainly.
So stuff that's breathable that you can move in, because that is
the whole idea behind it. Do me a pair of leggings.
Oh yes, Green ones, Peter Pan. So yeah, anyway, that's the
(10:38):
brand I'm planning to launch. Probably be, should be fully
operational by September, but the thing was dying.
Anything you want to get everything right?
So I'm not rushing this one. I'm just making sure I'm getting
everything right and everything will be great for customers and
all that, yeah. And if anybody listening has got
any suggestions of what you would like to see from Mike's
(11:01):
brand, let us know. Yeah, yeah, definitely.
Yeah. So as you can tell, I'm very
fitness motivated at the moment because it's just making me feel
good about myself. How the tables have turned?
Yeah, I used. I used to not used to be you,
didn't it. Yeah, knows to be loving or
(11:21):
honestly, it is solely because it's not because of laziness or
nothing now because I am itchingto go to the gym.
It is solely because they shut the car park next to my gym
where I could park my van because I've only got a big long
flatbed truck. I can't park it anywhere because
it's a nightmare. So I still have a very active
(11:42):
job, which is obviously very helpful.
I'm pretty much at the gym everyday.
Yeah. Oh yeah, you definitely do your
heavy lifting. I do miss it.
I do miss it. The only one thing I have
noticed, obviously walking around everywhere, and it was
pretty much half the time when Iwas walking around, I'd be on my
own. So it was like just headphones
(12:02):
in and I'd just be wandering around.
The amount of now it's summertime and obviously people
are not wearing like jumpers andhoodies and jackets.
The amount of sensors I'm seeing, yeah.
And I just want to go up to everyone and go.
I know how it feels. I think it's it's quite
inappropriate. It is.
(12:23):
You should do what I do. Just roll up your sleeve and be
like me too. Me too.
I've tried, I've tried. I've like you walk in front of
someone and make sure it's. A little look like I still do it
now. I was at the gym the other day,
right? And I spotted it, you know.
You know, you get that glue ringwhen you take your sensor off
sometimes and you forget to properly scrub it.
Off I've got a really bad. Oh, I see it.
(12:44):
I see it now. Yeah, I.
Can't get it off Bob. It's so tough.
There was a girl in the gym withit, right?
It was Riley that noticed it. Because I go with my son,
obviously, and he goes sensor, Igo. 21-D.
And me and him were just lookingaround her arms like where the
(13:04):
fuck is the sensor? Did you forget to put one back
on? Trying to find it.
Yeah, and it was a, it was a Libra one because it was a
perfect circle. So yeah, just couldn't find it.
But it's quite inappropriate scarves.
Excuse me, where is your sensor?Yeah, do you want to play a
game? Find a sensor I pinged off in
(13:29):
the white room. Yeah, I've had that before.
I caught one on a in fence the other week.
I had to RIP one off the other day because it was so
inaccurate. Oh wow.
Yes, I think I had about 5 days left.
You're on the pluses now. Nah, you know I'm.
Terrible. I'm still as much as I love
(13:50):
Dexcom because I haven't got my clinic ID linked with my Dexcom
so they get my readings. I'm still using my Libras
because I've still got 5 Libras left.
Oh, OK. So now I'm basically like
stockpiling my Dexcoms so if anything goes wrong I've got
back up, trust me. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
(14:11):
I need to. I need to get some sensors
actually saying that. It's just reminding me.
Well done. But I'm running low.
I need to put prescription in. Do you?
Want a plus? I've got one in the cupboard.
Yeah, I'll have a little plus, bro, have you got a spare one?
I'll give it a go, see what the difference is.
There's nothing negative about it plus.
Yeah, I'll give it a go. I'm going to have to get in
touch with my doctors at some point and tell them, but I just
(14:33):
can't be bothered. They should switch it over, but
if they don't, they just go, oh,this ain't made anymore, you
can't have one. Yeah, that's, to be honest,
that's probably something my GPSwould do.
It wouldn't surprise. Me.
No, the hospital's great, but the GPS just hard work, talking
(14:53):
about sensors and everything, sowe do our average.
Average with an average, yeah. Or or not what's?
What time should we do? Time and range.
Well, I had a funeral a few daysago, guys, I had alcohol, so my
time and range actually ain't too bad.
Actually ain't too bad. It's quite bad, but it's not too
(15:15):
bad so. What?
So what time is it then mate? It's time and range time.
That's the one I've done a different sound.
Here's a fruit machine jackpot. This one ain't winning.
I'm actually lower so bad because I think it was 3 days
(15:40):
ago I checked and I was 79. Yeah.
Obviously had a funeral, emotions been high.
I've had a few nights where I'vealso overtreated my low or
whatever, or just got in a bit low before bed and eaten too
much and stayed high all night. So now from from 79 it's dropped
(16:03):
all the way down to 67. But I'm still happy with that
because my goal is 65 from the hospital so I'm still where I
should be. So how about you?
Mine is, well the last two weeksobviously we haven't actually
shared our time in range for thepast couple of weeks I don't
think. Yeah.
(16:25):
So the past couple of weeks was,I will admit it was atrocious
because I was in such a shitty mood.
I've been eating crap food, I'vebeen eating late at night, I've
been eating shitty meals that are just quick and easy to make
because it's just had no motivation.
I could be bothered to do anything.
So it was just crap. Easy.
(16:46):
Just chit throw in the air fryer. 10 minutes done.
Yeah, living like a teenager, basically.
Pretty much, yeah. Like a student.
So I, I actually got as low as sort of like in the like, the
same as you, like the 60s. My highs were atrocious because
I was just eating shit and obviously I was so stressed, I
(17:06):
was so resistant. But like I say, I've pulled it
back and I am now 85% in range this week.
Back to normal. Well done.
Yes, yeah. Well done, Jack.
Yeah, I'm very happy. And as I say like it's the more
and more I'm feeling a bit more bear in myself.
I can see the difference in my numbers because obviously the
(17:30):
care is coming back. So you know that saying, do the
numbers define you? Technically, you're saying they
do. No, because I don't gauge my
life off the numbers I'm gauging.
No, but the numbers get off yourlife.
Yeah, like if. You're eating shit all the time.
You're going to have bad numbers.
Yeah, of course you are. Like I had five packets of
(17:51):
crisps in a row on the way to the funeral.
Yeah, or this, this just got it goes.
Obviously the heat's helping andobviously I I had had to sort
out my basil because the heat and work and all that stuff.
But yeah, just for you. Obviously the listeners can't
see this, but look at what my graph.
Is today. That's steady.
That's very, very steady. And it's been like that for
(18:13):
quite a while. Like what?
What what I'd say for the past sort of like 4-3 or four days.
Yeah, no, that's really good. Oh yeah, I'm happy man.
I just need to sort your diet out and get back to training,
which is the next thing on my list.
Yeah, that's the day of the funeral, Jack.
Oh wow, yeah I actually yes, I remember you put in a picture up
(18:34):
of the 25 point something going straight up after you said you
was getting free drinks at the bar.
Yeah, yeah, I got free drinks. And obviously, yeah, obviously.
But it's, it's as I say, I I hada funeral quite recently as
well. And stress, anxiety, and
(18:55):
different emotions all really, really, really affect your sugar
levels. Yeah, but you.
I felt quite good in myself though, although the numbers
were terrible. Oh, that's good then, because
you're not letting it ruin your day.
Yeah, it was a it wasn't, but ona nice day, but.
No, no, of course not. It never is.
(19:17):
Yeah, but. But that's just like any normal
day you think you might go out with like, I don't know, you
might just go out with a few friends and you end up having
lunch and then your numbers go up.
Like obviously me and you both not as well as anyone else that
you are going to feel like shit and it will probably make you a
bit niggly. You might get a headache.
(19:38):
You might just like not want to be there but it's that mindset
of where you need to start thinking of and it will come
down. I'll be fine soon.
Just do some more insulin, be patient and don't stress about
it too much and just try and enjoy yourself.
Just live your life do. You want to know something I
(19:58):
can't realise as well? Don't go low after alcohol
anymore. Oh really?
Is that because? Yeah, but do you eat?
Yeah. There you go.
It's the cheat code. You taught me that, didn't you?
I remember the first night I went out and really got drunk
and I, I really didn't know whatto do.
And all I kept remembering was you telling me, right, you need
(20:21):
to eat, you need to eat, you need to eat.
And I remember on the way home, I'm sure I shared this on the
podcast, I was so nervous. Bro yeah you have shared it.
But I ate a McDonald's and like a cheeseburger and chicken oats
and chips, but I didn't inject any insulin whatsoever.
But I stayed level the whole night, so your advice fucking
works. I know.
I just, yeah, I'm doing my own advice.
(20:43):
What I just sometimes I like reassurance, that's it.
There you go. If anything mate, I'm back here
to just big you up a little bit. There you go.
But yeah, now. So yeah, that's my life at the
moment. That's your life, pod.
Life is back to normal. We need to sort out another
(21:04):
guest though, to be fair. Yeah, we do have.
Have we got any in the pipeline? There is a few people, but if
anyone would like to come on, drop us an e-mail, it's in the
podcast description on Apple andSpotify.
So just ping us a little e-mail.Yeah, pretty much that.
Should have done some listen to winds or saying shouldn't we
(21:26):
should have put it out? Well, if you're in our
community, we celebrate winds all the time.
Yeah, that is very true. But if you're in our WhatsApp
community, the winds get celebrated.
Yeah, we'll put the link in the description.
And and the struggles they get talked about, yeah, they do
related to. They do, they do, as obviously
everyone in there is a type 1 diabetic.
(21:48):
So your voice is never not heard.
No, there is always someone to talk to do.
You know, I'll rename my ChatGPTto Dexter.
Teacher so random. Does anyone else do that?
They just randomly waffle to ChatGPT?
(22:10):
Like you don't want to annoy people, so you just want to get
your thoughts out and someone's.There I've I've had a few lonely
nights ChatGPT quite sad of it. It's like having your own
personal robot. It is.
It's perfect for diabetics. Do you know what?
(22:31):
I actually used that quite a lot, to be honest.
It's obviously I wouldn't go offof it 100% and I didn't even
think about doing it until I think it was a few people that
said about a in our community. Can I ask you about clubs?
Yeah, you can. Just say I'm don't don't if
anyone tries it and it don't work don't have a go at me
please. It ain't my the information
(22:51):
didn't come from me. No, and what we say is guidance,
not actual medical advice, blah blah blah.
Exactly. That's exactly that, Yeah.
So don't hold me accountable if it doesn't work, but I know
quite a few people that do use it and they've said that it's
pretty spot on. So yeah, just put in your meal,
(23:12):
it might tell you what you need to inject.
Yeah, to be fair, I might even try it tonight like I might do.
You know what? Because I still I still weigh my
stuff and I still calculate everything you can.
See how right it is? Yeah.
That's what I mean. I'll do it normally, I'll
calculate all my carbs as I do normally and then I'll take a
picture of it and ask it and seehow accurate and how spot on it
(23:32):
is. All right, that sounds good.
Make sure yeah, put it in your story.
Yeah. Make some content with it, Jack.
Yeah, you're back. Live on the Instagram, we want
to see a bit of Jack and his bits rather than just someone
that dips his BM into a coke. Yeah, no, OPS.
Trust me, my phone's still got off.
(23:53):
I've still got a few videos in the bank to come out.
Don't worry about that. Yeah.
I'll just just need to pay. Just need to pay for the
software so. Rendered the videos I've made.
Oh yeah, you made loads. Yeah, I just still haven't paid
for it. Worked out how to get a free
trial. And guys, if you think Jack has
(24:16):
struggles now you know. Yeah.
Technology says no. Thank you very much for joining
us this week, people. We're going to end it there.
Yeah, sorry. It's so it's such a random
episode. It's just nice for to catch up
with Jack. Yeah, it's just been nice to
just come on and just be normal again.
(24:37):
Yeah. I've missed you.
Missed you too mate. We still spoke, just not live on
the podcast. Yeah, but even to to be fair
proper even that I was a bit distant, like I haven't spoke to
anyone. I my WhatsApp is still filled up
with loads of messages that I haven't answered and it's just
can't be bothered. Like I say, I was concentrating
(24:59):
on myself. I wasn't dealing with all
everyone else's shit. Sometimes you have to be
selfish. You have.
So yes, thank you very much. We'll be back again same time,
same place next week. Thank you very much for joining
us. Yeah.
Thank you guys. If you have any stories please
send them in www.wert1d.com or you can DM us on at WE RT 1D or
(25:27):
me or Mike. Well, I'll tell you.
Actually, I'll tell you what, ifyou send in a story, it'll be in
next week's episode after this one.
There you go all. Right, that is motivation.
So send them in. If you want to be on it,
anything, it could be anything. We don't care.
Serious, funny, make you cry, make you laugh.
Oh, a tearjerker. That's some little slow, slow
(25:50):
piano in the background. What's that?
Just. Visualize the whole episode in
my head. I'm booming my eyes out.
I'm. Sorry, we'll see you next week.
