Last week my husband, Joey, and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. So, in honor of our anniversary, I wanted to reflect on the vows I made to Joey on our wedding day, and how those vows look in the daily reality of our life, 7 years and two kids later.
My Marriage Vows:
Joey, words cannot express how happy and grateful I am to be standing with you today. You have the most beautiful heart of anyone I know. You have fulfilled my life in ways I never imagined possible, and I couldn't be happier to become your wife today. I consider it a privilege to be able to share the rest of my life with you.
First and foremost, I promise to be authentic with you, to let you see me exactly as I am without fear or reservation. And in turn, I will encourage you to be yourself, to appreciate your individuality as it changes and grows over time. I will always remind you to be true to yourself, setting aside my own expectations for who I want you to be.
I promise to be trustworthy and loyal to you. I will protect your secrets, empower you to overcome your fears, and encourage your most ambitious dreams without passing judgment. I promise to listen carefully when you want to talk, and I will sit with you in silence when there are no words.
I promise to do my part to make our life together fun. I promise to contribute joy, adventure, creativity, and a strong sense of character into the family that we are beginning here today. I will be your companion in parenthood, to make our family's love and happiness a priority.
Finally, I promise to be your best friend and partner in every way I possibly can. I vow to share in all of your joys, big and small, and to stand by your side even in the worst of times. I will respect and honor our marriage for the rest of our lives. I love you so much, Joey. Thank you for being my husband.

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage
Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero. Special thanks to series creator Dan McGinn, to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and Adam Plumpton. Medal of Honor begins on May 28.
