Speaker 1 (00:00):
Some mornings, it's tough to remember to take everything with
you out the door, your lunch, your security badge, whatever
you need to get in at work. The other mornings,
everything just seems to click. You know what the difference
is those slow mornings You've probably missed ninety three point
one WPOC The Michael J Morning Show. Hope you can

(00:20):
join us every morning, but if you do happen to
miss anything, maybe you can catch it here on our podcast.
Thanks for checking in, Follow, like, share, and keep listening.
Love and Theft ninety three point one WDPOC, Michael J
and Malory Sepaste. Everybody's talking about John Harball. What I

(00:40):
was thinking is I know, Mallory, you can only guest
co host this week. Maybe John's available next week. What
do you you are? Pop culture protein.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Boost than brief on ninety three point ONEPOC.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
All right, so what's going on to the brief this morning?

Speaker 4 (00:57):
Here is your brief.

Speaker 5 (00:58):
So neighbors came to the rescue of a mom and
her two children who's home can on fire and it
was all seen on doorbell camera. This happened in Middle
River yesterday morning. The footage shows a man catching two
children from a second story window with others trying to
look for ladders, flagging down, passing cars for assistance.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
And this all happened before fire crews got there.

Speaker 5 (01:17):
And if you see the video, it's actually pretty emotional
because you know they're scared, they drop the kids. The
kids are then worried about the mom. The mom's worried
about the dog.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
It's horrifying.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
It's amazing that they got out of that house fire
because you could see how it was quickly spreading. Unfortunately,
the dog did perish, but those neighbors really stepping in
to save that family.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
That's awesome.

Speaker 5 (01:37):
In Columbia, Maryland, they are ranked second best in the
United States to find a job in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
That's according to a.

Speaker 5 (01:43):
Report by wallet hub, and the city stood out for
its high medium high medium household income, job stability, and
low risk of automation. A lot of people now looking
for jobs. Columbia is always ranked really high on places
to live, so now it's also a good place to work.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
And if you know anything about they're tearing that movie
theater down, maybe you can get a job there.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Are they're gonna be building, you know.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
Yeah, And like they said, low risk of automation. Everyone's
worried about AI and it's taking jobs. And then if
you are driving over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge this fall,
you may see a giant yellow Ducky Mama Duck, a
sixty foot rubber duck is coming back to our area.
She'll be displayed prominently at Sandy Point State Park during
the twenty twenty six Maryland Seafood Festival that's in September.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
I don't know what it is about this duck, but
people love it. They love to see it.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
You said it was like the biggest story at wma R.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
On WMR two news. I think for the past two
years this story has blown up. People literally interested in this. Yeah, yeah,
they want to see this ducky. But at Mallory's fast.
That's your brief ninety three.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Point one WPOC.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Ninety three point one DIWD POC Morgan Walling. You know
he's coming to Baltimore. I was just telling uh, I
was just telling Mallory here that next July seventeenth and eighteenth,
look out, are you a Morgan Walling' I am?

Speaker 4 (03:01):
I mean his music's so good.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Yeah, he's got something in to it. Yeah, he's really good.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Hey, so yesterday. Of course we were talking about John Harball.
Everybody's talking about John Harball today. But there's another story
that's probably I mean, I'm getting a lot of headlines
on Michael Jay's.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Music City Minute in sixty seconds. You don't know, like
you own music row.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have finalized their divorce, ending
a twenty year marriage. You always hear about the seven
year itch and then, like in the twenties, it seems
like that's you know why, because a lot of couples
have when they become empty nesters and they start reevaluating.

(03:43):
So I don't think that was Keith and the Cole's issue.
But at twenty years yesterday, the judge ruled in Nashville
and Keith and Nicole agreed to co parenting classes to
make significant decisions for their children together. Their two teen daughters,
Sunday Rose, who's seventeen, and Faith who's fifteen, will stay

(04:06):
with Nicole three hundred and six days of the year
and with Keith fifty nine days of the year.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
It's not exactly an equal, no, that sounds.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
I mean, I don't know how they picked that out,
And you know, it's none of my business.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
And between how many houses they have.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
On much you know, I think you asked the kids. Yeah,
especially seventeen and fifteen. Yeah, that's what I mean. It's
a drag and I remember, you know, because I got
divorced with two little children and they were going back
and forth and it's it is not easy at any point,
but we wish them the best anyway. That's the arrangement.

(04:41):
Keith and Nicole both wave rights to child and spousal support.

Speaker 6 (04:47):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
I don't know that.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Yeah, I don't know that. That's really I don't think
money is really coming into it. So they divided their
property and assets equally and they're going to move on.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
So it's official.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Keith and Nicole have That is your Music City Minute
This morning twenty twenty five was proof.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
And time flies when you're having fun.

Speaker 7 (05:08):
Fun.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
That was fun. You call that fun. Let's call it
ninety three point one percent fun because for us it was.
We love playing your Today's Best Country. We love to
bring you an awesome show.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Sam Brown, thank.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
You for coming to Saturday in the Country.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
WS gingerly gone to mention the piles of.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Cash I knowny and I just want a thousand dollars.

Speaker 7 (05:33):
I'm pee and I just want a thousand dollars.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
I'm Clinton.

Speaker 7 (05:36):
I just won one thousand dollars out man.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Speaking of that, we are back with a big old
pile of cash starting this Monday. You are shot at
one thousand dollars thirteen times a day to win piles
of cash on ninety three point one.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
W p C I around the belly now on the
Lozy call you.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Dlly right ninety three point one w poc EM and
m that's what we're being called.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Michael J and MALORIEE.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Faste from w M A r uh filling in as
our guest co host this week. You turned me onto
this story, and I think this is pretty uh, it's
it's pretty eye opening. I guess, although you know, when
you get crabs, you really don't know where they come from.

Speaker 5 (06:28):
You don't I would assume, I mean, if they're Maryland
blue crabs, I would, yeah, sue Maryland.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
I know, but everybody calls them Maryland crabs. But then
they come from the Golf of Mexico. I mean, it's
like I feel like that's that's like a it's almost
understood that they can't all come from the Chesapeake Bay.

Speaker 5 (06:45):
You know what I mean, Like, no, no, I'm under
the illusion that all crabs come from Maryland.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
Yeah, so especially blue crabs.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Yeah, well blue crabs, but so but like a blue
So it's like it's saying with a fish, like it
could be a rockfish and is it caught in the
Chesapeake Bay or is it caught in the Atlantic Ocean.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
I don't know, it's a rockfish, right.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
The real thing is that started getting So there's a
story on Inside Edition where they came to Baltimore and
went to five seafood restaurants and they got the crab meat,
and I guess all five restaurants said, yeah, we have
Maryland crab meat in our crab cakes. And three of
the restaurants, if I understand this correctly, did have Maryland

(07:32):
crab meat. Yes, two of them didn't. And they're not
identifying exactly who's who in this piece, but they do
pick on Jimmy's famous seafood.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
They do.

Speaker 5 (07:43):
Yes, they went there and they spoke to the owner
actually and confronted him with their findings from these DNA tests.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
I can't imagine they DNA tested the crab meat, but
they did, and they claimed, well, Here's what the researcher said.

Speaker 5 (07:56):
They were two different swimming crabs species, but neither one
of them was native to the US waters.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
That's right.

Speaker 5 (08:02):
The lab sess the crabs were imported from Asia and Africa.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
So that was the crabs from Jimmy's. That's right. Yeah.
I know they're very very TV.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Announcers, But so I was just thinking on a couple
different questions. One, do I really care where the crab
meat comes from if it tastes good?

Speaker 4 (08:22):
If it tastes good, right, you know what I mean.

Speaker 5 (08:24):
But it makes you think too, for how much restaurants
charge for crabcakes, right, you want to know what they're
giving you is actually what they're selling or what they're
describing on the menu at least.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Yeah, according to this piece, it's sixty six dollars for
a crab cake at Jimmy's.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
They are massive. I think they're really big.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
Crab I love the big crab cake. I swear I
can just get it down on it.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
But cocktail, I'm just thinking, like, so, if it's Maryland
crab meat, I guess that is false advertising, right, it could.

Speaker 5 (08:54):
Be yeah, or maybe I guess it's not like an
allergy right, it's not like you can be allergic to
certain crabs.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
And on the Mars, I really if the crab meat's good,
you know, you know good back then like, I just
don't want shells in it. I don't want it to
take like you want it to be really sweet flavorful.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
I think you can tell Maryland crabs. I don't know.

Speaker 5 (09:16):
Maybe if I'm paying sixty six dollars for a crab cake, right,
is it cheaper to get the crab meat somewhere else?

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Yeah? I don't know. I mean, there's a lot of
things that pop in my head. But so you can
look this up on Inside Edition visiting Baltimore. But it
looks like from what they said Gertrudes, that restaurant's at
the museum, right, Yeah, they have really good food.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Apparently then that.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Crab meat from Gertrudes was from either I don't know it, yeah,
or Maryland.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
But I mean, how do they know it?

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Does the crab have like a Baltimore accent?

Speaker 5 (09:52):
You know, like a And also I mean who tests
DNA and crab meat?

Speaker 4 (09:57):
Where you do that?

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Do you know how much DNA crabs probably having them? Anyway?
If you know what I'm saying they are crabs after all.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
But I'm curious does this affect how you feel about
crab meat?

Speaker 3 (10:11):
We'll find out from you.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
You said I was in the mornings.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Ninety three point one WDPOC Inside Edition is creeping and
crawling around in Baltimore, tried to find out about our
crabs DNA testing. Yes, Michael J. And Malory sepaste from
wma R. She's our special guest co host this week,
and Mallory turned me on this to this story on
Inside Edition where three out of five of the restaurants

(10:40):
that they DNA tested were from the crabs were Maryland crabs,
So we know Gertrude's Conrad and Conrads shout out to
Conrad's go ahead.

Speaker 7 (10:52):
Good morning, Michael J. And Sharon listener number twelve.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
Hey Sharon, so let me ask you. Do you like
your crab meat?

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Right?

Speaker 7 (11:00):
I'm an expert. I'm an expert. Born and raised in Maryland,
worked in catering and food service, got friends who own
seafood restaurants.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Okay, let me ask you, what do you know about
all this?

Speaker 7 (11:13):
I know everything about all this, and.

Speaker 6 (11:15):
I can tell you very few, very when they can get.

Speaker 7 (11:21):
Them Maryland crabs, definitely, but it's not.

Speaker 6 (11:25):
As easy anymore with the state of the bay, so
they get them from anywhere anywhere. But when you've got
to pay attention, what they really should be saying is
Maryland style. In other words, the way.

Speaker 7 (11:39):
It's prepared and served is the traditional way.

Speaker 6 (11:44):
I go.

Speaker 7 (11:47):
Very often to Ocean Pride, and their crabs are consistently good,
heavy and seasoned. Well, we happen to like it, but
the owners have told us they get them from Maryland
when they can, and when they can't, they just get
them right.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
And by the way, Sharon, make sure make sure.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
You know that that's jo spice on those crabs that
add Ocean Pride.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
You know that, right.

Speaker 6 (12:13):
Yes, well, they have their own blend too, they use Jayo, Buttheasy.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
They get a special blend from Joh, yeah they do.

Speaker 7 (12:22):
Yeah, they do that. They do that. But and I
like But the thing.

Speaker 6 (12:26):
Is, and I'm beyond worked in catering before, so I'm
telling you patent if a test Maryland crab, I mean
it should be of course, it's the truth and menu right.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Well see, and again, when you're eating your crabs, I
guarantee you sitting on a picnic bench on some brown paper,
you know, with a natty bow in your hand, having
crabs you're not thinking about wonder where this crab came from? Right?

Speaker 5 (12:50):
If it's expensive, transparency is important, right, I agree with you.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
I think taste is probably the number one.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
And you want a big, fat crab with lots of
fat fan and that mustard? Do you stick your finger
in there and eat the mustard too?

Speaker 4 (13:03):
I just don't look.

Speaker 6 (13:04):
I used.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
All right, Ella Langley with her Sweet New Country A
ninety three point one w DPOC ninety three point one WPOC.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
You want to give your first name?

Speaker 8 (13:20):
Hello, Yeah, this is Matt, Matt all right.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Yeah it's Michael.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
We'll get triple m's going now, Michael j and Mallory
and Matt. And you wanted to point out that you
felt we were missing something in this crab story.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Go ahead and say what you wanted to say.

Speaker 8 (13:35):
Well, I just think you're missing the fact that the
gist of the story was you're in Maryland, you're in Baltimore,
You're you're eating Maryland crabcakes, and yet you're you're getting
Asian crab meat, which is an inferior product, right because
it's pasteurized, right, as chemicals. It's pasturized, it's not. It's
not you know, USA grade a quality crab meat, right

(13:56):
and that, and then certain places are charging more for
it costs less profound, right, So.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
That is I totally get that point. You can you
tell the difference in taste right away as an expert
if it's Maryland, Yeah, really, it's all Yeah, it's not.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
As sweet yet.

Speaker 8 (14:15):
Wellah, not a tweet. I mean if you eat it
out of the can versus eating it you know, fresh
from Maryland, you'll taste it directly quickly. It's very bland,
you know, it's not even not even close.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
All right, Matt, thank you very much for listening, for
checking in this morning. Good to hear from you. Well,
we are passionate about our crowd meat.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
We're from Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (14:37):

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Your pop culture Protein Boost. It's the brief on ninety
three point one WPOC.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
What's going on?

Speaker 5 (15:43):
Yeah, We're going to start in Hartford County, where the
stop top school official is undergrowing pressure to resign. Hartford
County Executive Bob Castley is calling for the resignation of
school superintendent doctor Sean Bolson over an alleged incident during
a taxpayer funded education conference in New Orleans in April
twenty twenty four. So the controversy centers on a nine
to one to one call that's been circulating online in

(16:05):
which the caller identifying as Sean Bolsen reports a theft.
The caller says there was a woman in his room
and she left while he was asleep. So some council
members now are also calling for his resignation, citing alleged
theft of eight thousand dollars in items including school district property.
Important to note that Bulson faces no charges and no
evidence of wrongdoing has been presented, but a lot of

(16:27):
growing calls there and we'll see how that shakes out.
Flue case is way up in Maryland, nearly two thousand
people hospitalized in September. The state Department of Health is
now urging anyone over six months and older to still
get the flu shot, frequently, wash your hands, stay home
when sick, and wear a mask when visiting a hospital.

Speaker 6 (16:45):
I saw a.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Sign at the drug store off the street. They're still
giving out flu shots.

Speaker 4 (16:50):
I just got one two weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
Yeah, and I think they're free. If you know, with
a lot.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
Of different insurance programs, did you get any negative impact
from your flu shot?

Speaker 3 (17:00):
Because I didn't feel any either.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
But you know what, two days later, my husband got
the flu and I did not, So I think there
may be.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
Something to it. Yeah, absolutely, I want to consider it.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
And then also Columbia, Maryland, been ranked second as the
second best city in the United States to find a
job in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
That's according to wallet hub. They say the city.

Speaker 5 (17:18):
As a high median household income, job stability, low risk
of automation, and they also have affordable housing Options, Columbia.

Speaker 4 (17:26):
I'm Mallory Seposte. That's your brief ninety.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Three point one WPOC Traffic.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Ninety three point one WDPOC Michael Jay and Mallory Sepaste
from WMAAR. She's our guest co host this week, and
we've got Heather on the line.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
Heather, you're from Westminster.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Yeah, and you're.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Going to see Eric Church Woo. You're going to see
him at the Anthem on the twenty second.

Speaker 7 (17:59):
All right, oh awesome, thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Yeah, let me ask you real quick.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
There was a story we were talking about earlier this
morning about what Inside Edition came out with an insightful
look at crab meat. They went to a bunch of
restaurants in Baltimore and around the area, and all the
restaurants said, yeah, this is Maryland crab meat. And and
it turned out they DNA tested it, I guess, and
some of the restaurants came back Chinese crab meat.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
Would that bother you if you were eating crab meat?

Speaker 1 (18:27):
Would you be really Yeah, you'd want to know where
your meat came from, right, Yeah?

Speaker 3 (18:33):
Especially yeah from marilynd Yeah. Yes.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
And do you think you can tell the difference if
you taste Maryland crab meat versus Chinese crab meat.

Speaker 6 (18:43):
I think so, yeah, I think so.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
I think stick down with you. I'm with you, Heather,
so much seasoning?

Speaker 6 (18:49):
No?

Speaker 3 (18:50):
And and do you go Jo or you Old Bay?
Which one? Which one?

Speaker 5 (18:53):
Are you?

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (18:55):
Old Bay? Oh? I love Heather And right up until
that day, music City.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Old in sixty seconds, you gon't know, like you own
music row tether.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
You hang on, I'll get your info. I got to
tell you what's going on. Keith and Nicole are now
officially divorced.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
I think that's very sad.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
They have two teenage daughters, one seventeen, one's fifteen. They
agreed that there would be no alimony, no child support.
But the girls are going to stay like three hundred
and six days of the year with their mom and
then they give dad like fifty nine days or whatever
the rest is.

Speaker 5 (19:31):
And I don't know, maybe he's going to be on touring, yeah,
you know.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
Maybe he's going to do something really special for those
two months, you know.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
But I travel a little more.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
Yeah, But you know, it's tough because kids, when they're teenagers,
sometimes they don't really want to see anyway, you know
what I mean. They're like, get out of here, all right,
We've got news on Garth Brooks. I can share this morning.

Speaker 6 (19:52):
