place very near us, and she said, would you like
to walk to work together? And I said, oh the
building ever?

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Oh? Did she start at the same time?

Speaker 2 (00:56):

have the ball to like come up to me and
be like, would you like to walk together? Gin Z

but still like so old, like Hayley. Yeah, No, I
was going to say a young.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Real Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
I just admired that she had the balls to do this,
this friendship.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Do you feel beyond the walk?

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Well, I've got so. This happened a few weeks ago.
We've kind of seen each other since on the walks.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Knocking school bus.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
You think about her throughout the day and like look
at your phone to see if she's like, how's Bella?
Her is Bella? So she said to me at one
point she's like, you have a big boyfriend day and
I was like yeah, She's like he's tall.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Okay, so wait now she's coming for your man.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
She was like where is he all the time? And
I was like, oh, I don't explain, Like he travels
and I was like does. She laughs.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
When you said he's a traveling magician with crunch.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
I didn't say magician, just city travels.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Wait he wait, has he left any Crunchy bars for me? Again?

Speaker 2 (02:07):
No, he did leave flitch treaty.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Because yes, I said, have you got your crunchy bars?
We ate Crunchy left, Yeah, the emergency crunching. I ate it.
After you left. One day we worked time.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
No, quite often I don't tell people data magician because
it's just a whole conversation and time the morning, we're
just we're trying to walk to work.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Why so I get the same Like with our job,
They're like, what do you do for a job. I
just to save conversations, I'm a pilot.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Conversation, I say, I work in marketing. Sometimes he says
he works in a bent management.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
At anybody's asking follow up questions when you say you're
an accountant, they're like, oh cool, cool, okay, cool.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
But no, so her and I we've become friends, and
I was like, awesome. Yesterday I was in the apartment relaxing.
Partners in the other room in a meeting, you know.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
A magic meeting.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Yeah, yeah, they do that, they have meetings. No, he
was with talking to a client about an upcoming gig,
and so I was in my room and then suddenly
someone knocks on the door. I have never heard someone
knock on our door. I've lived there nearly two years.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
I'll say it is weird when you live in apartment.
I've had this before and someone knocks on you, Like,
how did you get through the three doors?

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Well? I was like, it's the police. Yeah, because I
know that they can come in and they can knock
on the door.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Yeah, and they're always.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Live.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
They've reached an apartment in your apartment block Shenon's apartment
buildings called myth Towers.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah, don't give out, that's a private no. So I
hit the doorknock panic, like I genuinely, my heart sank.
And at the time, I was watching a snapchat from
Carmen and I had to little expire because I was
like I had to do a replay, and then I
was like, apologies for the replay anyway, I'm panicking, and
I was like, I'm not answering the door. No matter

(03:57):
where I live, I wouldn't eve answer the door.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
I'm scared.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Then I go interrupt my partner's meeting and I was like,
someone's knocking on the door. You got to deal with this.
Pause your meeting, go see what this says. And then
I go hide in the room, shut the door, like
I'm not dealing with this.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
You know you're not seven, right, I feel it terrified.
I don't feel it.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Sometimes behaves that yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So he goes
and deals with it, and then I hear his tone
be so nice. And I was like, it's not the police,
like he would have been like, now no drugs here, mate,
you know, like I.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Know it's myth towers, but no wrong apartment. Also, he
could be like, look, I've got myth gone. You don't
charge me now with no evidence. Where is that exactly?

Speaker 2 (04:40):
He stops talking, and he was like, oh my goodness,
she's not here right now. But that is so kind
of you, Like I'll pass this on. Yeah, that's so cool,
Like so nice to meet you. Yep, I'm this, I'm
They start chatting, he comes in the note, he leaves,
and she shuts the door, all this and Brinna's like,
your friend's given you a prison, and I was like,
oh my goodness, walking friend, I'm walking friend. So she
four she loves four doors down.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
The same as doors down, and it's a three doors
down covers band lot further away from her. Let me
find the song. You find a song song thank you
that's probably on your dad's Sunday yard.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah. I did feel bad that my friend came to
have a playdate and I hid from her. I'm not
dealing with this.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Do you have a number, because maybe next time she
can message and say.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
So she wrote me this lovely note and gave me
a present and said, it's been so nice getting to
know you. Would you like to connect on Instagram? Here's
my Instagram and gave me a beautiful pair of like
cutesy socks, like socks.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
How good of socks is again?

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Phase of she knows I wear lots of patterns like.
It was very like she nailed it. Thoughtful, Yeah, gorgeous note.
And so then I missaged her on Instagram and I said,
so good to have your Instagram, Like, I feel like
we've liveled up the friendship. And then she was chatting
and we were talking about how long we've lived there
and stuff, because our chats have been very surfaceable, so
sure of course. And then she said to me, and

(06:09):
this is a big moment. This morning she said, look,
I'm moving out in a few months. Stores and so
Bella said, I've got some plants. She wore my.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Plants, marijuana plant. They don't even bother getting the marijuana
plants and this meth tower.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Fry baby. No, So she's like, do you want my plants?
And I was like, this is scary because we're new friends.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Would is she moving to Australia? I didn't ask you
would just take your plants if.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
You're moving across, But I said, I said, I'm really
bad with plants. I've never kept one alive. I killed cactus.
You know, it's not my thing. And I was like, well,
I don't want to kill your plants, and then she
just laugh reacted it. And now neither of us have spoken.
We're at a sale. I have really said I don't
want the plants, but.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Maybe three fans taken off. Yeah, and she's having to
travel the world full doors was down.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Why don't you ask her where she's moving to? Yeah?
I should, that's the next question.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Worry about your hitting where are you off?

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Because now I'm wondering is it time I ask her
if she wants to go out for like, why is.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
She bothering with friendship when she's leaving.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
It's just this comrader of we're women and we're walking together.
And she didn't know the area, and so I was like,
here's our local brothel, and I pointed out and I said,
don't don't stand too close to it because they'll pick
you up.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Someone once offered one hundred dollars, didn't they And You're.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Like, how rude, double you perfect no, and it was
just at a lovely surface level friendship. But is it
time to take to the next level? But she's leaving,
don't bother?

Speaker 1 (07:47):
No, no, no, no, I wouldn't bother.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
But what if she's just moving down the road. Why
was she not taking your plants?

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Now? I'm like, this is a specious activity. And also
she put a camera in the plant because she wants
to see your magician boy friend how he does it.
She came up. She wants to see him practice.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
She just likes ities tall. It was one of the
first things she said to me. She's like your boyfriend's big.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
She wants to be she wants to get in the
box with you, and you'd be the front half of
the lady.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
I don't fit in the box. And it's a really.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
I wouldn't fit in the box either. I don't think
we would know it's fitting in the box. It's an
unrealistic beauty standard to be a box.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Were you in boxes?

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Man?

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (08:25):

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; ā€œHe paid me to do it.ā€ David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a ā€œliveā€ investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, ā€œbrokeā€ her.ā€ The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run ā€œTrying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.ā€ That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as ā€œThe Corner on Blood.ā€ The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. ā€œThe Hulkā€ was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. ā€œThe guilty have gone free,ā€ he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
