0:00 - Mike Schmidt
11:20 - Phillies Bullpen
18:00 - Torpedo bats
25:00 - Sun Smart
On Thursday, April 3rd at 7:00 p.m., Schmidt will visit Holy Name Church (701 Gaul St) and speak to an expected crowd of 100 parishioners and community members about his 18 seasons playing for the Philadelphia Phillies, his 548 home runs and of course winning the 1984 World Series.
But he will stress the importance of wearing sunscreen – year-round -- and help remind young and old that safe sun practices are vital. Schmidt was diagnosed with Stage 3 melanoma and had more than 30 lymph nodes removed, and the cancer spots, which had spread into his brain, were radiated. The melanoma fought hard, but Schmidt fought harder. To date, he is cancer-free.
Schmidt works with Sun Smart America around the US - but this is his FIRST Stop in Philadelphia and he chose Fishtown as the place he wanted to begin the conversation.
