دکتر پیروز زارعی، عضو گروه پژوهشی پروفسور لورا مک‌کی در مؤسسه دوهرتی است. او هم‌اکنون یکی از پژوهشگران پروژه‌هایی است که از سوی شورای تحقیقات پزشکی و بهداشتی استرالیا (NHMRC) و شورای تحقیقات استرالیا (ARC) حمایت مالی می‌شوند. هدف این پروژه‌ها توسعه دانش بنیادی برای ساخت واکسن‌ها و درمان‌های مؤثرتر در برابر بیماری‌های ویروسی و سرطان‌هاست.
