News break: Northwell’s Westchester hospitals name new chair of cardiology

Andrew Krumerman, MD, steps into cardiology programs acclaimed for excellence in coronary intervention as the new chair of cardiology at Northwell Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) and Northwell Phelps Hospital. He will focus on developing growth strategies, enhancing academic and research initiatives, and fostering collaboration with the goal of improving quality of care, patient outcomes and a reputation for cardiovascular excellence. 

Dr. Krumerman joined Northwell earlier this year as the director of cardiac electrophysiology at NWH.

Doctor Andrew Krumerman,a cardiovascular expert with more than two decades of experience,
has been appointed chair of cardiology at Northwell Northern Westchester Hospital and Northwell Phelps Hospital.

In addition to his administrative role,Doctor Krumerman will serve as professor of medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.

Dr.
Krumerman,who specializes in treating atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias,
joined Northwell earlier this year as the director of cardiac electrophysiology at NWH.
Prior to joining Northwell,Doctor Krumerman served as senior attending physician at the Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart and Vascular Care and as a professor of medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine,

where he was instrumental in pioneering various research initiatives.
There he founded the Montefiore-Einstein ECG Research Group,
which focused on addressing healthcare disparities using artificial intelligence to improve cardiac care.
Doctor Krumerman was also one of the developers of the Pacer ID application,
which streamlines the identification of implanted devices like defibrillators or pacemakers,

enhancing patient care before MRI scans.
Earlier in his career he served as the director of cardiac electrophysiology at NYC HHC Jacobi Medical Center.
Doctor Krumerman’s contributions to cardiology have earned him many prestigious awards,
grants and funded projects,including the Albert Einstein Cardiology Program Director’s Faculty Award and the AECOM Cardiology Research Board Grant for the development of an ECG machine learning database.

He is a fellow of several notable medical societies,
including the Heart Rhythm Society and the American College of Cardiology.
In addition,he serves on the board of directors of the CMR Institute,
a non-profit provider of educational solutions for pharmaceutical and medical device professionals.
Doctor Krumerman received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Michigan and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Tel Aviv University School of Medicine in Israel.

His postgraduate training included residency at the Montefiore-Albert Einstein College of Medicine in internal medicine;
he also undertook fellowships at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in cardiovascular medicine and at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University in cardiac electrophysiology.
Both Phelps Hospital and Northern Westchester Hospital have been recognized as centers of excellence for cardiac care.

Phelps is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation in cardiac rehabilitation.
In 2023,Northern Westchester Hospital received a Coronary Intervention Excellence Award™ from Healthgrades,
placing its coronary intervention program in the top 10% in the nation.

The hospital also received five-star ratings from Healthgrades for conditions and treatments related to heart attack and coronary intervention.
