While we would like this episode to be like Meg Foster’s piercing blue eyes and cut straight to the point, it’s more like that 6-minute fight scene between ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper and America’s favorite President, Keith David. We may only discuss the actual movie “They Live” (1988) for about 6 minutes of this 90+ minute podcast, but like the film, the tangents we stray off onto are a teaser for what’s to come.
Much like we masquerade as an actual movie podcast, “They Live” is a biting, satirical look at capitalism and greed masquerading as a B-Movie horror flick. Our krewe touches (and we really mean touches as the topic is only discussed for about 36 seconds) on the fact that the movie still carries a great deal of relevance for today’s world.
Perhaps it’s the krewe’s overall thoughts on the slow pacing of the film that makes this episode anything but slow-paced, but as we ramble our way through this ep we see the familiar hallmarks of a 3CG production: Terry tries to goad Hannah into a reaction with his horribly outdated jokes and language, Matthew extols the virtues of color film, Hannah reads us another dissertation, and Garrett’s brain hamsters pass out from exhaustion. So, business as usual.
Will Terry ever learn we don’t buy his heel act? Will Matthew be able to shake his turn as the baby face (or even speak more than two sentences)? Does Garrett consider the ultimate remake one that stars the people’s elbow? Is Hannah the real ‘Rowdy’ one of the krewe? Did we miss out on making several wrestling-themed puns during the recording? You’ll have to listen to find out!
