You might do a Spreadson stats segment with Tracon here
about tracing happy for time we've done really Yeah, I
think I got some numbers. Cool, while he's here, we'll
have him react to his own numbers.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Yeah cool.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
I was thinking earlier today, oh my casualty on the microphone.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Well, he already broke.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
He had this stand bone second I were back. That
was bad. I was thinking earlier on your behalf.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
I think like, who's betef Mine or trace Tracy?
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
I was thinking like this is gonna be weird. Like
guy reaches out to him and says, hey, we do
this podcast. You want to come as a podcast. He
doesn't know. I'd say the number of people that he
knows right now, less than twenty in West Virginia under under.
What's the over? Okay, what's the over under on that
sixteen and a half twelve and a half twelve and
(02:42):
a half over under people that you know in West
Virginia as of right now, no.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
One besides coaching staff, Jackson Fields, then you two, So.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
It's under under under Cash has always play the under.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Randy. The woman's yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Yeah, you're probably yeah under yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
So anyway, and was like, it's just like really weird,
like you just moved here last weekend. You're here now
you're in this weird room with these weird two dudes,
like you don't even know who they are, and it's
just okay.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
That's so we went through campus on the way down
and bring them, bring them through, Yeah, the Mountain lair. No,
we didn't go that far, didn't have time.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Where'd you go?
Speaker 2 (03:19):
It'll be on the way home. Came right through town
down University, this new business school we saw right where
Jerry West used to play.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Right then. I didn't get to check any of that
on my visit, so I didn't I didn't know there's yeah,
I didn't know anything.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Oh yeah, yeah, that's that's that's high cotton right there.
With that being said, so you've been here, like weakish,
Had you ever been to West Virginia before the visit?
Speaker 3 (03:45):
No, I don't travels for basketball and I've never been
to West Virginia.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
So what did you know if anything about West Virginia?
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yeah, probably just Jerry West that's on it.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Say probably it Country Roads, take me Home, Country Roads.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
No, I got here my visit, seriously, I was not.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
I was not on your playlist.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
No, my family lives on a farm and stuff, and
they played that probably, but like I didn't know what
it was like a West Virginia thing, Like I didn't.
I just think about like you like play basketball and
that song comes on after gamers, Like I didn't know there, Yeah,
it didn't.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Didn't realize the significance of that.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Now, you ran across a couple of West Virginia guys
in your workouts for NBA teams here recently, Tobyo, Connie
Javon Small.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
So me and Tobyokanye the same agent. So when I
first we worked out New Jersey where he's from in Orange.
I think it's called Yeah, here's my ride. He gave
me rides and stuff. So obviously I was committed South
Carolina at that time. Yeah, right away when I got there,
so not too much to think of it. And then uh,
be committed, and I told West Virginia might be a thing,
and then he was. He thought that was hilarious because
he was like, fans aren't think it's my I did
(04:53):
it or something like that. He thought he thought it
was so funny. But yeah, Toby's a great guy. It's
my guy for sure. And then yeah, I ran into
javon my Wizards work out, my first one. He was
I think my matchup on the other guard. He was
on the opposite team.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Oh yeah, yeah, and and and and and and.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
My team my team won on the workout. It was
me Cam Matthews from Mississippi State and some JB guy
from jack State versus Javon Small, some Houston fore man
forgot his name, and some guy from Dayton.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
I bet you're the Houston guy. Fouled a lot.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
He's a left Yeah, he was definitely Dunkyard dog for sure.
He's They're all pretty good. They are really good. Yeah,
they're good. After Jan Roberts, Yeah, and Roberts probably was sixties.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
He goes that takes you down on the post and
then just turns the shoulder into even know it's over with.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Didn't scum me the post? Actually so so so Yeah,
they thought I was sweet down there, but no, he
well on the guard in like three times scranted, but
I think he might have got me once.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
But how many teams did you end up working out for?
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Just too? I had like five planned out because I
know I was gonna come back to school for sure,
just to see what it was like, test everything out.
But I hurt my Blazers work out my second one,
so like the first show, we did a finishing drill.
Me and this Notre Dame guy were in like the
final of it because we were the most points. I
tried getting cocky on it for dunk and I missed.
He blocked me.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Would you hurt that?
Speaker 3 (06:19):
But the second Joe, we did a one on one
and that I strained my my groin and my my
hip flexer. So I've been out for a few weeks
now and then getting back here getting pet and stuff.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
So you had you had a Celtics workout scheduled? Was
one of them?
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Cav Celtics and Bucks. I think those were the other
three that I was just gonna test and then come
back just to get some more experience.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
So when so you did it just to get the
experience to see what it was, what surprised you if
anything about those workouts. Were there things that you were
asked to do that may have surprised you or what
were those Like I.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Thought it was gonna be a lot harder, and I thought, like,
I'll go in the first workout like, okay, I'm going
back to school. All these guys are like vets, all
played in this for like five four years or all
like twenty three, twenty four, and obviously I've been playing
then playing against older guys since I was obviously a freshman.
But these guys are like the top of the top man.
I thought I was like just gonna I thought I
was gonna get killed. I'm going in there like yeah this,
(07:13):
I'm just gonna try hold my own, hit a few threes.
But it was like and then days is basketball, Like
I know how to play basketball and it don't matters
in front of me. Kind of like the same thing
like when I thought kind of an Alabama game, I
was just like I thought, these guys are coming in,
not coming and kill us. But like there's difference, there's
levels to this, and knowing that I'm I'm pretty I'm
close to that level and I'm right there just helps
(07:35):
my confidence a lot coming into this next season.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Yeah, we want to talk. We'll talk about the we'll
talk about the Alabama game coming up here in just
a little bit. So you go through these workouts and
you learn a little bit. What what messaging did the
two teams give you about you?
Speaker 3 (07:51):
They said, like, well, Portland, it was hard because I
was hurt, like the whole workout, just jogging around and stuff,
but was just one one. Well I thought, what you
shooting drills and stuff, and I think me and the
Dayton guy had the highest score. Look at that and
then we obviously my team won the thing, but it
was it was they just said, like my body, I
don't pass the eye tests if you looked at me, obviously,
(08:12):
and that's the eye test is a real thing. And
then just like my defensibility, like that first step, just
don't give up on possession. Obviously there's multiple stops and
one possession, So I think it's just like that first
initial one and then after that I got to like
just keep saying, so it just work on my defense overall.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Okay, so let's jump into that then. Not probably not
a question that I've asked many people. But let's talk
about your body. So you legitimately are six what six five?
And very honest and way today?
Speaker 3 (08:45):
How much two of three point six was this morning?
Two or three when I lifted this morning? Shout out Martinez.
But yeah, we weigh every day. I need to eat
four thousand calories to gain weight every day, and then
I'm at two of three point six right now today
this morning.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Well, if you need helping four thousand calories, he and
I'll be able to help help you out.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Early early in press. So he's got to gain some weight,
but early impressive nature of him, unlike the two of us.
There's a plate of donuts sitting right next to him.
He hasn't even touched it. I know, he hasn't even looked
at it.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
So like you almost elbowed the donuts when I brought
Have they got it?
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Well?
Speaker 1 (09:16):
I mean it was it was a forearm. I mean
I wouldn't say that. Okay, have you been told not
to eat bad food?
Speaker 3 (09:24):
No? They actually want me to eat like datorades, lemonades
and stuff like that, which I stay away from. Bob
trying to eat a bunch of protein and stuff like
this morning I probably had seven hundred calories and then
me and Jackson today just went to Cracker Belle had
a little like steak eggs and hash browns. Those biscuits, well.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
I can tell you what, dude, we got something for
you here. They don't have these in North Dakota called
Tutor's Biscuit World.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
The biscuits, I had to say, were good.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Yeah, not far from the coliseum. They will put some
weight onto you. They'll take care of it. And it's uh,
it's you know what they say, start your day the
homemade way with the Tutor's biscuit. These bad boys are
for real. Promise number one, Hey, write these promises down.
We're gonna make to them. We want to write that
one down and get him a Tutor Angel staff gets
(10:09):
at least one Tutor's Biscuit to sign up. So let
me ask you this. So, family wise, are you do
you come from a tall family? Are you an outlier
in your family?
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Wait?
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Wise, like where are you at?
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Yeah? So, like my I just me and my mom
growing up. But I mean my mom's side, My grandma's
probably like five six, My grandpa's probably like six to one.
She's about six foot, and my aunt's about five nine.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Your mom's how tall?
Speaker 3 (10:36):
It's about six foot?
Speaker 1 (10:37):
Oh she is? Okay, So your mom's tall. Okay, I
got you.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Biological father's side, they're all pretty pretty out there, apparently
from what I heard when I went to Portland to
see some of my family. When I was there, I
saw some of my family and they were telling me that,
like one of our grandpa's like a long time ago,
had some disease where like he just couldn't stop growing
and he's like seven foot seven six, but like he
died because it was all right. I've heard of that. No,
I've heard of that, and apparently that's where we did
(11:00):
it from. I don't know for sure, but like my
my bilog father's like six four. My my little brother
below me his stats why, I'm sixty one, he's about
six seven six eight, oh big. My all my grandpa's
are like six five SiO. My my grandma's are a
six foot six one.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Okay, what about let's go the other side of it instead,
of this way. Let's go this way. What happens as
your folks get older? Do you guy, will you gain weight?
Do you see yourself one day at two twenty five, two.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Thirty, Yeah, I could definitely get fah for sure, you can, yeah,
one hundred percent.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
So we're gonna get good.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
For But yeah, that's why I've been trying to like
I don't know, like I've been trying to eat good
like I have recently. I don't know, Like when I
was in high school with that every day just didn't eat.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
So it's just eating part equations.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
That then yeah, and then I was like, I wouldn't
say I lift a lot. I like more basketball stuff.
But uh, I'll be here every day in the summer
until the season starts with Martinez, so I'll be I'll
be good. I should be good. What is his hope?
Speaker 1 (11:56):
What is your hope so that when practice practice starts,
work you want to be I.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Just want to be more lean. I just want to
be more like just as an athlete. I don't I
want to lose this little baby chub I still have
on me because when I was younger, I was I
was big.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
You think you have a baby chop How big were you?
Speaker 3 (12:09):
I was, like, I played offensive line every year. I
and since I was a sophomore in high school, is
that right? Yes?
Speaker 2 (12:16):
How was you get? When did the height start to come?
Speaker 3 (12:18):
So? I was about six foot eighth grade, about six
two freshman year. Freshman year, I was right guard for
a freshman team. Little chubby, you couldn't touch rim or anything.
And the sophomore year that's like six' five and THEN
i was kind of like something out with so that
little fat on me a little. Bit and then, yeah
LIKE i GOT i GUESS i never really like lost that,
Fat LIKE i never got like toned to that, point
BUT i worked. Out, HELL i just didn't eat the right. Stuff.
(12:41):
Yeah all we had Was roma noodles and. SANDWICHES i
get you growing, Up so, YEAH i get.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
You, Yeah well this will this will be a whole
new world for you because you will want you'll want
for nothing. HERE i, mean whatever you, need they got.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
It, yeah that's so that's. All i'm trying to use
everything in my, advantage like the red light, bed the
ice ice bath and everything and everything in. There i'm
just trying To, yeah, sure.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
It's it's it's interesting because you do have to be.
Careful you need to be, big and you need to
be strong because this league is gonna they will knock you, down,
right especially when you talked About, houston like they will
get up into you like you've never been gotten up.
Into ESPECIALLY i gotta shoots this, well say, exactly and
(13:26):
if you if you don't have that, weight it's just
like a, feather, right they just they'll knock you. Back
you'll knock your. Back so this will be. Interesting and
the fact that you know, it you're you're gonna have
where we're at, Here like you gotta. Cut you got
three months to beef that thing up, there and when
you eat right and you, lift you could be a
(13:47):
nice two fifteen two twenty real.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
EASY i JUST i WANT i want the weight So
i'm still have my first, Step so like that's Something
i'm like a little scared about because what IF i
cat too bakes that put you out to start playing
like like a slower type of thing like a metal.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
TIP i don't, know you think that's your biggest advantage
offensively first?
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Step, yeah for my, height my first step for sure hundred.
Percent like the taller the guy is like the tallerant
length theory IS i have a better chance of. SCORING
i think it's like that smaller physical type of guy
that gets into. Me that's where it's LIKE i gotta
get my handle tighter and then my body just. Stronger
that's WHERE i get like like sat on by.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Anything but, like, yeah you classify yourself as a shooter
or a score.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Score. Uh personally my freshman sophomore, YEAR i thought it
was just like A i've always had the ability to
like just get a. Bucket that was my. Rule obviously
had to play a role in bast college basketball and
this last, year and they gave me the. Chance like
my isolation numbers BEFORE i got like doubles in some
of you, play we're like ninetieth, Percentile like it was high,
(14:47):
isolation and then just like pick and roll was like ninety.
Third you were good in the pick and. Roll. Yeah,
Yeah SO i just think like my ability to just
be a, player that's my like my biggest. Thing, yeah it's.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Okay how about moving to The big? Twelve thoughts on?
That what do you look at forward? To what are
the challenges you think it'll present to you coming from
where you've come.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
From i'm just excited to. Learn. Excited, Obviously i'm a.
Fail it's just part of. Basketball you're gonna fail a little.
Bit i'm excited to learn from that and get better
as a. Player that's the biggest thing from Leaving North
dakota is like you don't get this competition every, night
and it's like that really just like shows you like
there's levels of this and it shows you like it
can push you to get. Better So i'm excited for.
That i'm excited just to grind through with all my
(15:26):
teammates and my coaching.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Staff you mentioned that you played, football so let's go
all the way. Back let's go back tracing six year,
old tracing seven year, old tracing eight year. Old were
you one of those dudes that like immediately started playing
sports or you were right into.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
It, Yeah i've definitely played sports my whole. LIFE i
was a big baseball and basketball, Guy like baseball is
my my. THING i quit football my sophomore year to
play basketball tournaments that because there's Like Native american tournaments
around and there would be something before basketball. Season i'd
a big, Yea i'm, Playing like why WOULD i want
to go sit sideline on A friday night in a varsity,
GAME i can just go travel to The reds and
(16:05):
play in a. Tournament SO i quit my sophomore. Year
but like WHEN i was a little, kid, like, YEAH
i LOVE i loved every.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Sport baseball. Pitcher, yeah, YEAH i, figured yeah WHEN.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
I was, yelling, like my mom worked at A d two,
College SO i had the gym to myself all day
Because i'd have to go to work with. Her, oh
So i'd either shoot a lot or i'd like get
their baseball equipment and like hit t balls against the.
Wall yeah, yeah i'd be and then i'd have baseball
practice at same same day because it's the. Summertime so,
YEAH i used TO i was really into baseball.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
WHEN i was, like how long did you run baseball?
Speaker 2 (16:39):
For SO i was a.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Junior he played all the way up in the junior.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Year. Yeah so WHEN i was a, JUNIOR i got
MY d one offer FOR u AND d and then,
uh a THREE csb team asked me to play FROM
au and It's, minnesota so it's far and SO i
just asked my mom IF i can go all online
school to go work out these, guys like play with
these tournaments and. Stuff she, said, yeah it's. Cool SO
i still gotta play sports and do online BECAUSE covid and.
Stuff and then, yeah remember one TIME i pitched against
(17:03):
another team that was In, bismarck AND i was pitching.
GOOD i was probably throwing like probably, eighties like. Consistently
my highs is like eighty, five but also in eighties.
CONSISTENTLY i was pitching. Good but it was like sunny
and windy And ordacono's cold still team probably had like
five areas in the first two. Innings he's, like you,
Coached kimmy told me that you honestly can go like
(17:24):
you're you're. Good SO i REMEMBER i changed middle middle
like second after their, HITTING i left everyone sing where
you're going your middle of the? GAMES i got an
a TOURNAMENT i didn't go to LIKE wda or anything
BECAUSE i was. Gone so that's like the REGIONAL i
didn't go to any of, that BUT i. WAS i
was gone for Most switzerland senior. YEAR i just it's
Like i'm waste my.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Time, fastball slider change.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Up fast curve change mm.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
Hmm, yeah that's ALL i. Had, well not a lot
of pitches in my. Ripertoire, yeah curve pretty.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Good, yeah, yeah actually, like, yeah you'd be surprised back
in my.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Promise is he better for his? Arm that'll be shooting
jays instead of what about follow up major league?
Speaker 3 (18:08):
TEAM i was like WHEN i liked, baseball is The
Boston Red, sox big? Poppy but, YEAH i don't want
to know. ANYMORE.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Nba here we.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Go, Wait i'm gonna answer it for. You it'll be a,
player won't be a.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Team go, Ahead, no It's i'm not. Knowing Jackson fields
is Le bron, Fans so Whatever lebron, goes that's. Me,
yeah like T Wolves, no uh SO i grew. UP
i don't. KNOW i didn't watch sports growing, up so
LIKE i just picked the team that look, cool and
there's this game of my iPad to head of basketball
and like flames around. It it's Like i'm, OH i
like that team and it was The heat but LIKE
(18:43):
i didn't really. Know that's when they were good too With. Lebron,
yeah and then like WHEN i old enough to, UNDERSTAND
i was, like, okay Like Isaiah thomas and The celtics
is like he's, Him like that's that. Guy so that's
my favorite player all the? Time IS i T and
Then i'm A celtics.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
Fan, Okay, okay there we.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Go, yeah even before the Whole Joe missoula. Thing, yeah you,

cousins and. Stuff we grew up, there lived with my
grandma for a, while back and forth From mohall to

she worked at The university Of mary and athletics at
The division two. School, YEAH i JUST i wasn't the best.
(20:36):
ANYMORE i was a little chubby shooter sixth, seventh eighth
grade THAT i couldn't move BUT i could.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Shoot, wait so when you keep saying, chubby how fat were?
Speaker 3 (20:43):
You, BRO i was like it was. BAD i gotta
find a, picture but it was, Bad.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Like did your your legs rub together when you wore?
Corduroys that kind of?
Speaker 3 (20:52):
Fat it was like my face like like always rosy like.
You and there's a picture of my the res at
my at my biologic father's. House it's Like i'm cheesing
and the sun and stuff my like it's just all
pop and like even WHEN i was, fifteen my driver's
license UNTIL i got a changed last, year like everyone
to make fun of. Me, everyone it was, like there's
no way you looked like, this and it was. Bad
(21:17):
i'm trying to think of. EXAMPTLY i wasn't as bad
as the The hams guy off a. Sandlot, Okay i'm
talking H, YEAH i wasn't as bad as, that BUT
i was like a little bit more compacted with like the.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Chub, yeah hey, dude it all works.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Out. YEAH i grew into it. Eventually my little brother
we call him the dud because he's like he's the worst.
One we call. Him, yeah But dud is like he
looks like that right, now like just has like the
little scrinny legs and his torsos just.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Chubby, yeah and how old is he.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
In eighth?
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Grade is he playing anything?
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Basketball? Yeah all my siblings played, basketball my little.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Sisters, okay you know when you mentioned those moves that
you made from, Here miy not than To. Bismarck like
you never were following any hot weather around. WORTHY i,
mean those are some of the coldest places in The United.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
States yeah, no, yeah, yeah my whole life has been
in the. SNOW i, LIKE i don't mind. It it's
once it gets like, windy and it gets really windy
over there because there's no hills or. Nothing so that's
when it starts. Killing like it'll be negative five and
then the wind will hit it'll be like it feels
like negative forty. SOMETIMES i.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Know those are the cities that they'll always, use like
On Weather channel when they, say and the lowest windshill
of in the country right now is, mine Not North,
dakota and it's like minus sixty, two that's for.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
REAL i do like the snow days, though because sometimes
you just get a little. Break, sure but even like
you would think a snow day like, here the oh like,
oh like this is a lot of, snow but like,
there it's probably just like another.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Day that's trust, ME i get. It, Yeah i'm From,
BUFFALO i. Understand yeah that's it, sucks but, yeah here
it's different because of the. Hills, yeah so you only
need a little because it's just you slide. Right so
every if you have anything that's, flat it's it'd be
a lot.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Easier but just the that even snow's here anymore THAT
i don't even know if he'll see snow this.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
Year last year we had a Cold. January it wouldn't
be cold for, you but we had a Cold. January
other than, that some years the year before that we
had like one.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
SNOW i HOPE i see at least some.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
Snow, well you'll see.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
It, well we got to go.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Good Iowa state this. Year we got to go to, you,
Right Iowa.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
State probably My, yeah my OLD au team teammate plays
For Iowa. State we played there my freshman. Year, Yeah
taman Lips oh.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Yeah tam And lipsey you played what you PLAYED au with?
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Him, Yeah Eli king was, there but he's transferred to
you and d with. Me so, yeah, Yeah tame And.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Lipsey mom and dad both work At Iowa. State he's
from a work. There he's From ames and he is
a really good. Player, yeah he's a good. Player get
dinged against us last, year remember his hand and went
and it's in a captain with the rest of the.
Season so when do you realize you can play big boy.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
Basketball what age sixteen years old as a. Junior, really
that's WHAT i.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Was you didn't think you'd be able to play high
level until your junior.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
YEAR i was just Hold jackson this. EARLIER i don't
care about telling it, now but like back, THEN i
like really. Care my freshman, year LIKE i barely, played
LIKE i played, basketball BUT i didn't get moved. Up
SO i played FRESHMAN c squad basketball AND i wasn't
even my best. Player and, UH i was like six,'
THREE like i, played Posts like i'll do jump pokes,
and stuff jump pug setting screens and. Fade away AND
(24:26):
then i just kept. PLAYING basketball i like was barely
eligible my, freshman year like a one POINT. A GPA
like i wouldn't go. TO school i would just go
to the church and shoot around. And stuff and THEN
sophomore i WOULD do i would just, keep Hooping go
i'd go. To parks fiel was like eleven O'CLOCK and
i was at a sleepover at a. Friend's house we'd
literally just go to park and PROBABLY hoop intoi, like
two two or three as long as there's like one.
(24:47):
Light there and we just love. The hoop and then
my SOPHOMORE year, i grew which obviously helps you because
you can't really. Teach body AND then i still had
that skill just playing those guys all day, every day
even though they weren't the, best players it still got.
Me better and, then, uh yeah, sophomore year last. JERSEY
number i wasn't supposed to. Make varsity THAT'S why i
(25:08):
were number. FIFTY two i was gonna ask you why
you were? Fifty two non traditional. Number, THERE yeah i
was the last picks a. JERSEY number i wasn't supposed to.
Be there and, then, coach uh first, FIRST game i
WAS playing jv, as sophomore which is. STILL good i.
MOVED up i was excited. About that and, then uh he,
was like you're gonna put two as a varsity first
DAY and i had fifteen my, first game and the
first game with the, CONFERENCE season i had twenty five
against like the third best team in. The state and
(25:30):
the coaches, like okay, like yeah like you. Got IT
then I made all conference as. A sophomore I remember
i asked, MY coach i was the coach really like
did a lot? For me that's. MY guy i wouldn't
be here. WITHOUT him, I remember i, was like YOU
think i played? College basketball, He absolutely like a WEEK
later i got did he do offer? From? You mary
and then uh going in my, SOFTWARE year i wake
up every at SIX like i WAS just i didn't,
(25:51):
have anything SO like i had to WORK until i.
Had something he would wreak up. With me he'd left the.
Gym open going into, My software, he's like YOU think
I go. D one he's. Like absolutely he contacted every
school for me because my mom didn't. Know anything my
mom didn't, know nothing so he's pretty much my. Main
guy he texted every school around like the region and
THEN uh ndcu was. My first whoho Called Me. Knowtota
(26:12):
state i'm not a big fan of, those guys but
they called. Me first oh had The first division one
school to. Call me then you and he offered me
right before a, regional CHAMPIONSHIP so. I got i never.
PUT au i got my offer playing high school Basketball Nor.
DAKOTA mine i COMMITTED before i could play in front
of a COACH BECAUSE covid i just felt like it.
Was right and then always said he get my grades back,
(26:33):
up too and they told me that they worked. With
me SO then i committed THERE when i. Was sixteen
senior season average. Thirty two i'm and mister Basketball For.
North dakota it's a pretty. Good year AND then i
go to college and.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
Got prepared you know what's amazing about all that tracing
is it's an amazing story because most of, the time
when a player becomes the player of the year in,
the state he's, as agnated like in, sixth grade like everyone,
Goes here like here, he comes everyone, follows, him, seventh, eighth. Nine, ten,
now okay you're saying you were the. Last pick you
(27:09):
BARELY made jv as. A sophomore you took the last
number because you were, The, last, like well that's a
heck of.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
A story like my middle, school team we had the
best player in. The stay his Name. Was joey he
was just like, grown man like. Had mustache in, sixth
grade six foot touch could touch rim And Like, north
dakota he was.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
Sixth grade he could touch.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
The, rim yes you're just like bump into you shoot
lip then He would no one. Could stop no one was, strong,
enough right so he we, we won but just giving
him the BALL and i was just in. The CORNER
if i was open, on shooting but if we won
every tournament stuff, with him and then He. Made varses,
a freshman, everyone's, like oh like top freshman's in. The state.
EVERYONE'S ranked i was like nowhere close on. That list,
sophomore year going, before SEASON still i was nowhere on.
(27:50):
That list and then made. A CONFERENCE then i was like,
number Five and, i'm like, OH wow i GOT my d.
One offer and then no one's really you don't go
d you And Out north dakota and that's the north to,
school usually but still at, that time it was. Pretty
rare AND then i had a kid in my class
that was like a. Four star his Name Is joe
hurlbert is one of my. Best friends He Like, Ohio State, Iowa, State.
COLORADO minnesota i talked about you like he was, SEVEN
(28:13):
footer i. Could shoot he was, really good so we.
Put it he was my you. Tebm maates i'd drive
with Him to minnesota. And, stuff yeah but He would
missgator to play the year like two years in a
row because he's. Nationally ranked and then SENIOR year i
got mister basketball. Over him does that mean to stay at?
AVERAGE more? I think but he was like all time.
(28:33):
Leading rebounder it's a. Great story this is a.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Wild story it sounds like Two. Things tony first, of
all that how often have we had guys on here
and we identify this all. The time there's one person
that kind of takes you and shepherd. Jail long and
it sounds like your coach gave you a ton, of
confidence which might have been the missing link that you
had where someone else, told, you hey you're. Really good
was that kind of the sparky there to? Help?
Speaker 3 (28:55):
You LITERALLY because I was so there's. Two schools There's
a north And the. SOUTH school i lived in The.
And universe mary is like way, down south like thirty
minutes from, my house so my mom had to drive
up and then back down to go to.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
Her WORK so i was.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
A mom i just Transferred, down SOUTH like i don't
like the the high school Coach at century like that
was like the school and they were always like the.
Best school that was like the rich school pretty much
like all like So down south like a little bit,
more ghetto but, like Nothing It's. North Dakota so I'm
Like north. Dakota, Ghetto yeah i'm like let me Go,
down south Like like i'm good by playing. WITH him
i don't want to play for, this guy because there
(29:29):
was a kid in my class who was always like
Gonna play varsy as, a freshman like he's they already
picked him type. Of THING so, i mean let me
go down there with all my traveling TEAMMATES and i
think we'll. Win games like, that's, fine kay that. Sounds,
good eighthred you're at transfer down south freshman year playing.
With Them still I'M. At bhs that Kid at century gets.
MOVED up i would stayed on THAT squad. I got
i didn't give it. Up anyway BUT like, i think
(29:52):
PLAYING if i played For That, central, coast no no
diss to him, OR anything i would not be anywhere
Close where i'm. At today THAT'S why i GIVE everything i,
have today my basketball skilled to my high.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
School coach what's his, Name Again.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Jordan Wilhelm.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Jordan wilhelm, that's.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
LIKE yeah i would not be anywhere without. Him today
like that's just, that's awesome. That's true so like like
id damn near wishim happy follows day every day because
he's like a father.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
Figure life sure you have, those Guys as, brad said
and they come along man and they'll take people and
they'll shepherd them in and change.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Your life so it, sounds, Twofold right so he's instilling
confidence and the right guy. For you but then it
also sounds like you worked pretty hard to sounds that
you were playing all, the time so the skill development
came along just from the. Constant reps it's not yet
playing all. The time and, then LIKE because i didn't have,
a trainer we couldn't, afford, That RIGHT so i would
just go to the Y and i would just stay there.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
For hours so it'd be like SO once.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
I will wait one second here the ton of important,
message here important. Message here so you were mister basketball in.
The state you're Now A division, i player YOU'RE an,
nba prospect and you did not have. A trainer you
were able to develop your skills by yourself by just
going out, and playing so you don't have to have, a,
real fancy. Expensive trainer is that what we're saying that one?
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Hundred percent, because okay, So yeah so, growing UP once
i got close Enough to WILLY'S where i WAS like
i could text him on a, Normal basis like he
opened the gym for me every morning at six. Before
school he would. Do that and THEN when covid happened my,
sophomore year after me and my uh like my Best
Friends keaton eagle lives he lives In the cannonball moved
to Bisbarg. AND dakota i would get him in my
little two thousand And six pontiac that didn't have heat
(31:23):
or anything every morning at like five thirty because one
night we played we played games until is four and,
we're like we can't go, to bed like let's go.
Work out so then that just became. Our SCHEDULE, during
covid we work out of six twelve and then we'd
go to the y from like seven to eleven, every
night just. Every day that's what that was our that was.
Our thing so we did that For, like dan you're
years straight. Every morning then once school started back up
(31:45):
by a, SCHOOLY can i opened up the gym every
day and he did hit the gun. EVERY morning i
lived after school AND then i would just go to
the gym after practice and stuff and like just. Play
fives AND then I obviously i got this the height,
with that which helped a lot in mind, my body
which you can't, teach that but like this SKILL stuff
i would just go to the gym some of the,
old heads like My, boys zeke like he would like
(32:07):
you would be, Good someday like you Know what. I'm
saying those guys that take. You, In yeah And so
i'd play with like the older guys.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
And stuff they'll post, you up they beat you up
and man against.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Grown, men yeah people are not, the good but they're not.
The greatest but they got that dad strength. In Him
so i'd Play. Against dan they bump me. And STUFF
and i learned how to like finesse. A round.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
So it got.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
Me Right did some days would, Be, LIKE okay i
score every time my right hand not just try to
scores were left, Every time like don't go for, like
layups just only shoot. Threes today like stuff like that
up to me in my HEAD when i ran because
they couldn't like guard me at, That point like THAT'S
when i WAS like i was getting. Pretty good and
then my, SENIOR year i Talked To, lindy waters came Down.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
From, oh yeah watched one of. His games yeah we
saw him.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
This, year yeah, came down said not to come to
do a Camp For native. American kids AND then i
Worked at he has two other Guys From native american
that were good in high school to workday camp. With
THEM so i workeday camp AND then i lunch with
his dad after and they were telling me how like
they he never did like live stuff, growing up like
it was it needed to be a ref like it
was just like drills that you may played ones after
work out, and stuff but he never. Played Live and
(33:09):
i'm over THERE like i don't know how you could,
Do that like It just i'm only built off playing,
live basketball one, on ones do and all that type.
OF stuff i think that really helped me to. Rhyme
today and THAT'S what i tell like most of kids To,
Know dakota, they're, like oh like to work me. On stuff,
i'm like just, go play, just.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
Play, go play.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
GO play i, Was like i'll, help you like clean
some stuff up if you really, want blake just play,
A lot like don't just think like one hour is
good enough just, to PLAY because i know you have
more energy. Than that like, you're good like you.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
Got it you pick up some nice old man ym
is like get a little savvy well tip to.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
THE trade i wouldn't say those little old, Head, MOVES no.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
I don't i don't use those like they they'll they'll
like put the ball on the floor and they'll go, like,
no yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
They don't yeah on the baseline span hook a.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
Little, bit no they try to just shoot threes and
just talk a lot.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Of smacks that's all they, Do REALLY so i would
imagine those guys eyes now look at you and go
they have to be absolutely thrilled with.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
Your, journey yeah like my my main like the guy
he Lives in, georgia now but. He came he goes
back once in. A, while yeah BUT when i Come In,
south CAROLINA like i was gonna like, LET him i
was gonna pay him out to come.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
Every game well he's he can come. Up here he's not.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
THAT far, i know it's. Pretty close we Can Have.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
Zeke knight at. THE coliseum, i, think right he didn't Do.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
Nothing jordan, wilholms stuff but he was there for sure
at the why every day.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
With me it's the guy that you remember Long.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
The west that's when LIKE the o gs and he's
not and he's like five, to four like, Little.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Thick yeah but hanging around a.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
Little bit he. Could, Shoot yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:41):

stunned by.
Speaker 1 (36:53):

on the.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
River, TOO yeah i just. BIT basketball i doesn't.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
Have time do a lot of people ice?
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Fish, there yes, it's yeah like religiously like, it's yeah they. Do.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
It yeah are these the kind of people that also
bring like they set up on the river and they
got the, whole thing like.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
A condo there's a hut and stuff on.

tent why Wouldn't you, yeah yeah if you got if
you have the money and you want. To.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
Yeah yeah well in the summer when the ice melts
There In, north dakota. No question all those people are
driving around On Lou Wendell marine. Sales boats they happen
to be the number one pontoon boat dealer in the
State Of. West virginia they sell avalon boats one hundred
percent manufactured In The, united states made in the State.
Of michigan and now tis. The season whether it's, a
pontoon whether it's anything to do with, boat team they've
(37:46):
got to Visit lou wendelmarine at sales. Dot com That's
Lou Wendel marine Sales. Dot com now he would need,
that Gator The Gator Tough john, boat series those those.
Gator boats now those things and fish you can fish
directly off the. It is could you see yourself on
that right that's you standing on top of the up,
front there just. You're bath what do you?
Speaker 3 (38:07):
Fish?
Speaker 1 (38:08):
For anything? And everything just something you.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Can eat so Like In, north dakota, just walleye. TRACT
tatfish i tried bass. Before basses, All.
Speaker 1 (38:14):
Right so you say you you're not a catch and.
Release guy you're a catch And, eat.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
YEAH yeah. I don't it's just not as fun if
you're just catching it throw, it BACK like i want to.
CATCH them i can.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
Stay home so you're basically you're the guy that SAYS
if i don't come home with a stringer full, of
fish not a.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
Good.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
Day, Yeah, yeah literally do you think you're a? Good fisherman.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Seven out? Of ten six out of? Ten fish what makes?
YOU good i, just, like, no no some stuff that
like what does? That, MEAN like i just like know
how to set up, A poll i KNOW what i
should set up for a wind and like what time
of the year?
Speaker 1 (38:47):
It, is, okay walleye what's your?
Speaker 3 (38:49):
Favorite? Bait? Probably right now you s's probably go mindows
if You're In north dakota because obviously it's. Still, cold
yeah pike are good right, now too because The In
north dakota because the meat still like. Pretty solid it's but,
right now minto is probably when it gets a. Little
warmer worms usually.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Work more how you prepare those walleye when you cook
them just kind of like little.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
Cubes frying oh is that what?
Speaker 1 (39:13):
You do just cube it up and then just fry
like that like. Fish, nuggets yeah. Pretty much how much
those things weigh.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
Two a couple?
Speaker 3 (39:26):
OF pounds i could tell. YOU pounds, i don't as
long as they just they look thick enough to eat
out to, EAT like. I, don't yeah what about, the
pike those are. Pretty big that was probably like five to. Ten,
thing yeah those are unless, like baby that's.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
Like this so do you want to go fishing here in? The,
Summer yeah.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
I'll probably for sure try. Something out i'll probably like
find my little brother out to.
Speaker 1 (39:47):
Or something so here's, the, deal dude this is kind
of a hunting and. Fishing state the fact that you
just said that if you, wanted to you could fish
every day until the, season starts like people will just
come to you and, go, LIKE hey i was watching
three guys. Come here we're gonna take you people. FISH
here i, WOULD yeah i would do that. For, sure,
(40:08):
Yeah okay I'll Give New, river gorge which is two
hours ish a little bit more, from here, small mouth
crazy cat ninety one. Day ninety now we got. A
problem we got, a. Problem though you gotta put.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
Them, back, yeah yeah you don't keep mass. For sure
AND then i. DON'T know i don't know any laws Here,
any wow.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
We really don't. Have, any, YEAH laws i don't worry.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
ABOUT it i.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
Don't, know dude you're on the mountain near. Basketball team
you don't isn't that? A way there's, a way, there's
no there's.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
No rules apparently there's a card that you could just
say that to. Some people that's if you've been. Telling
ME but i don't think i'll ever pull that out in. My,
life no don't. Do that don't.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
Do that, BUT yeah i mean You'll get we don't
want to break any rules, or laws however.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
You will this is what you.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Will learn once, a mountaineer always. A mountaineer it's kind
of like. The mafia once, you're in you're in you're
not leaving that we, got you you KNOW what.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
I mean. That's love it is like be good and
everyone's good. To you.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
Pretty.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
SIMPLE rules.
Speaker 1 (41:19):
I want to ask. You about you mentioned a couple
of times growing up on.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
THE reservation i told you before we.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
Started recording I'm, in martinsburg two plus. HOURS away a
lady comes to me, AND says i lived two streets
over on the Reservation from. Trason's GRANDMOTHER and, i, went
like small.
Speaker 3 (41:41):
World, to me THAT'S like i. WOULD go. I wouldn't
i'll do my mom all, year round but in the
summers i'd go visit all my siblings and stuff for
like a week or two at.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
A time.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
So she's she's she's telling. The Truth There's eagle Butts.
Out dakota that's where my. Family's at that's.
Speaker 1 (41:56):
My grandmother this.
Speaker 3 (41:58):
Small rays it's not, one say it's some of the.
Nicest reds it's pretty has a lot that's some merk,
to do but it's just still still a good place
to raise.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
Your kids this year in the. Right housing m hm.
Mm hm and you said you went up there and
played in some.
Speaker 4 (42:10):
Basketball, Tournaments yeah like there's like we have four different
Reservations In, north dakota, and uh they're probably a tournament
and one every other weekend or even Like, in bismarck
but it just be Like a.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
Native tournament, so yeah like a lot Of the native
community loves each other. Over there it's all like one.
Big family it doesn't matter what tribe. Are FROM. M,
h yeah there's. Tournaments everywhere like there's a Tournament called
nabby Where It's, Native american like you have to be
enrolled in the tribe to play. In it it's an
easy that Use the phoenix suns arena. And stuff so
it's a. Big, Deal yeah like it's pretty much like
the State For, native americans like it's like nationals. Or
(42:42):
whatever so like, my, my uh you has been in
high school to play. In it but LIKE when i
was last year two, years ago my uncle took a
team down From All north dakota and they won it
and it was a pretty. Big deal where then last
year we went down fortunately. We lost.
Speaker 1 (42:59):
So you have a lot of fans pre built in
that are tracing fans simply because of your involvement with.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
THE reservation i, would, SAY so i would say most
Of the native community has MY back i, wouldn't, say,
oh obviously there's some people that JUST like i have something,
to SAY but i, would, say, yeah well.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
It's gonna be haters ten percent of haters no matter what.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
It, IS yeah i learned that a lot, this year.
For sure, but yeah like what do you.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
What what what do you mean by that? Social media
were you taking Some Shots north?
Speaker 3 (43:27):
Dakota, people yeah? For, sure yeah what was the issue?
After that After that, bama game everyone, thought, like oh
he had forty bad but he has eight against, this
team and like they just don't. Understand basketball they understand
that if you have two guys, on him you usually have. To, pass.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
Yeah that's probably pretty.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
Good, role yeah and, they yeah pretty. Good role bus
all this.
Speaker 1 (43:49):
Other stuff so, you know, there's okay so let's walk
through that because that's a huge challenge and a lot of,
players people, you know they look at.
Speaker 3 (44:00):
That stuff.
Speaker 1 (44:02):
How do you deal? With it one and you do
realize you don't hear any of that if you don't look.
Speaker 3 (44:08):
At, it.
Speaker 1 (44:10):
Hey did you ever get to the point where you,
Go like i'm not looking.
Speaker 3 (44:12):
At, THIS yeah i don't, REALLY like i don't. Really
care that doesn't. Affect me at, the end of. The
day as Long as i'm good with, my mom like,
my family IT'S all i really. CARE about i don't
care what like a random has to say out the
like in, my MIND like i, see like, hey coming
they're probably like forty, like divorce living on their couch
(44:32):
or Something like that's that's like audio and have. No,
game yeah have? No, game yeah like thinking of like
like the. Biggest loser you could think of like just
eating cheetos and sports betting, all day just yeah something
sometimes sports do you think it was?
Speaker 1 (44:46):
The sport you think it was a lot of people
get bummed up because the sports betting part.
Speaker 3 (44:49):
Of, it, YEAH well, i know well the sports betters
get more like. More personal they get to that Like
death threa type of thing where they're like talking ABOUT
like i know where you, grew up this. And that
but like the other ones are just like you think
this kid's gonna be good anywhere like that type, of
stuff like just like.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
Just losers so when, you left you heard a little
bit of you think that he thinks he's going to
be able to play somewhere Other Than.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
North, dakota, yeah yeah. For, sure yeah even from People From.
Speaker 4 (45:11):
North dakota they have something, to say it doesn't, go. Away, dude,
no yeah, that's yeah it just doesn't. Really matter we
had We.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
Had nathan adrian here last episode and one of the
great players Here At. West virginia he's, From Here. Morgantown
high he took took a ton of crap social media
wise during, his career just part of, the.
Speaker 3 (45:32):
Deal.
Speaker 2 (45:33):
Unfortunately, yeah yeah let's talk About that alabama game for a.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
Second, THOUGH yeah i brought that upload.
Speaker 2 (45:38):
Too, much good you can bring.
Speaker 3 (45:40):
It, up no.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
It's, good well talk. About it dropped Forty on alabama
top five team at.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
The time. WE lost i know he used to. Drop forty,
we lost, but yeah you. Were, rolling yeah it, was
yeah definitely. A game i remember my mindset going in
to the game was like everybody come to our our,
our crib and like everyone's going to. Be there i'm
getting like three hundred texts before, the game like trade
like go. FOR forward i told my sister, before too
(46:04):
because that was against, my thousand that. Forty, point YEAH
and I remember i was like KID like i might
have like Twelve. Against bama like, they're bro like they're
probably their. Game plans probably just MAKE sure i don't
score like THAT'S because i was leading scoring the summing at.
The time their game, pans like don't let, him score
and then we're gonna win. BY thirty i, WAS like
I just i don't want this game to BE like
i don't CARE much. I have i'll probably, have twelve
like it, doesn't matter like as long as it's kind.
Of close then we played Two non division, One schoos
(46:27):
i'll probably get. One thousand AND then i told HER and,
i said going to, this GAME like i just don't
want to get. FORTY ball i don't want to be,
like embarrassing like it's gonna. Be packed everyone in the
state went to go to, This game like tickets are
selling for a lot, Of money like this is gonna.
Be crazy, i'm Thinking like i'm sitting there walking look watching.
Everyone coming, i'm like like we can't get, Blown out
like there's no way for. A game i Think coach
(46:48):
herbs is, telling us, he's like, just player just play your,
balls off like it, doesn't matter like just going to
the game knowing that you actually, get everything it's gonna
be ON, national tv all this. OTHER stuff. I remember, i'm,
LIKE bro i don't. Got nothing. TO lose, I said
i'm PULLING until, i MISSED like I don't i. Don't
CARE so i remember first shot WAS like i Snatched
back nelson and this other guy. On me, i'm, LIKE
(47:09):
okay i. Feel space i'm. Pulling banks, i'm, like okay it,
went In so i'm gonna, shoot again like. That's fine
i've come off a ball screen like left side throwed
up When and, i'm, Like hey i'm. Still going it.
Doesn't matter and then like they took THEY thought i
was just a dup. POINT shooter i had some like
little bump. STILL lane i remember that first half like
tree keep going. And stuff i'm, Like quiet, i'm like
(47:30):
just like. WE'RE winning. I think i'm, like yeah like
just like just don't don't get, too excited don't get,
too like just. Stay down try, SECOND half i come
out like just like three straight or something. LIKE that
I remember i'm at like thirty Something and i'm look
up Like like I'm like i've lost. For words AND
then i remember Like coach oates told this one guy
(47:50):
he's like, full. Court deny i'm like top five team
in the country picking me up full like this. Is
crazy didn't want you to get. The, ball no this,
is insane and like they JUST like i, DON'T know i.
DON'T know I just i was just in. A mode
i guess come off a ball screen and they didn't
blitz it. Or anything let me play one on one
and it just. Same, thing yeah and it. Just worked
and then end of the game they hit some. Big
(48:12):
shots mark is a. Good player and then my Coach
got he didn't get mad, at me but he was
like trading with differences between WINNERS because i let my
guy get a BOARD after i. Was gassed but that's not.
An excuse but he got. ON board i, was, LIKE
damn i should box. Them out and then like he
right now to THREE and i was late to the
three and hit THREE and i was like a big
shot in, the game and he was like that's what this,
separates winners blah, blah BLAH and i, was like, You're, right,
(48:33):
LIKE yeah i. Understand THAT but i learned how hard
you have to play to win and how to be. A,
winner obviously it didn't help us towards the end of
the season or the. Middle season we didn't win as many.
More games but still has to like a personal thing.
Speaker 2 (48:47):
To individual confidence had a skyrocket, After, That, Right yeah
i'm like looking, At.
Speaker 3 (48:51):
Two i'm like eleventh Trending. On twitter i'm in a
Category with jimmer. For debt, I'M like I, call, WILLLY
right I called willy like, that Night and, i'm like
it's all getting to be rid of me because after
the interview, And stuff, i'm, like yeah. That's cool and
Then after i'm, like, REALLY like i just had forty
on the top five, teamle like did you ever think
coming from freshman and software you did you Ever think i'd?
Be here, he's, like try, absolutely NOT because i didn't even,
(49:13):
be good but. Forty on he, Was like I'M like
i didn't think, So EITHER like i don't know what, the,
oh yeah it was.
Speaker 2 (49:18):
Crazy eight threes in, That one but here's, the thing
that wasn't even your your. Highest output then you dropped
fifty in a. Tournament game eight threes in that.
Speaker 3 (49:27):
One too most points at a.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
Tournament game same feeling just in.
Speaker 3 (49:30):
THE zone i wouldn't even say this zone was different
then because it WAS like i was mostly going one
on One in bama type OF like i had TO
like i was coming off double screens and just like
hitting like staggers and stuff and like hitting step backs.
AND everything i don't, even know to, Be honest bama
game felt. MORE shots i did shoot More at. BAMA
game I think i made the same. Feudals.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
List fifteen you had fifteen field Goals Against South dakota
state when you had. Fifty one you had on the
tangle fifteen field Goals. Against alabama the free throws twenty
eight versus thirty attempts in the, two games but you.
Speaker 2 (50:06):
WERE close i mean it was within. Two attempts you
heartsose games.
Speaker 1 (50:08):
You went you took two free Throws. Against alabama you
took Seventeen Against.
Speaker 3 (50:11):
South. Dakota, yeah yeah That's what. I'm saying Like the
obama game was just forty off strictly like just bag
working jump shots, and stuff and then so a lot
of free throw. FREE throws i remember in the game
there we were up by like a certain amount and
they started, fouling Us and i'm like telling My big
amar and telling My, Teammate darris, i'm, like yo like
give me. The Ball i'm i'm at forty like give me.
The ball and, they DID and i hit all my
free throws, and STUFF which i should have made a.
(50:32):
Few BEFORE like i had an end one THREE and
i missed the, free THROW and i was pretty mad.
ABOUT that i probably shot like what seventy from that
the free throw of? That game WHICH GAME sdsu.
Speaker 1 (50:41):
I mean went thirteen seventeen seventy.
Speaker 3 (50:45):
Thirteen, SEVENTEEN yeah, i, MEAN yeah i was kind of mad.
At missiles but that shot to get the fifty is
probably the BEST shot i ever in. My career that's a.
TOUGH shot, i remember like they're all like looking, at
me like, tgging Fifty and i'm. Like nervous, I'M like
i got even fifty at, this point like there's NO way.
I DON'T so i like tell my guy to, clear
Out and i'm. Like nervous, i'm, like okay. Let's go
first move. Snatch back he sits. ON it i. Go
(51:06):
again he Sits and, i'm, LIKE yeah i gotta put.
It UP there's i. GOT it i throw it up like.
QUICK release i fall down and when it, Goes in
i'm like lots. Of words. I'm inside I'm like. I'm
screaming I'M like i get up back to all big.
And bad i'm, Like yeah i'm. Like fifty i'm, like
yeah get their. Free throw my phone was going crazy.
That night one of my favorite rappers followed ME Dm
(51:28):
me katie commented on one of the posts it was
bro it. Was crazy and then the next thing We Played.
Saint thomas their game plan on me is. VERY good
i got shut, down again had six points and then
it took. Six shots it's hard to shoot When there's
it was LIKE if i come up with bosk and you,
blitz it give it ball my hands AND if i have,
the ball. You load it's pretty much the whole. Side,
there yeah go on the non shooters and pass. The,
(51:50):
shooters yeah. It was it. WAS tough i had seven
asists first half and then, second half so. Many turnovers
it was a bad game all. My part everyone's, like
you so you're busted all this, other Stuff and, i'm,
like hey, That's cool like who are you Know what,
i'm saying like why are you talking?
Speaker 2 (52:05):
To?
Speaker 3 (52:05):
Me, Yeah yeah and then THAT'S what i, Really learned,
like no that stuff, really matters, but, yeah good what
have you done for? Me lately is the? Big?
Speaker 1 (52:12):
Thing right so you give him fifty one. One night
the next night you go out there and you get
six and, You're bad, so like what'd you do for?
Speaker 3 (52:19):
Me lately that's how that. Thing works that's that's the
way that. Thing.
Speaker 2 (52:22):
Works unfortunately about how about your? Role here what if
coaches talked to you about your? ROLE here, i mean
chances of you getting thirty shot attempts in a game
are probably slim at. This point what's what's? The role
what do you have to? Adapt to how does your
game have to change a little bit from what you
were able to do.
Speaker 3 (52:37):
Last year my, biggest thing like for LIKE when i,
GOT recruiters i just want. To play whoever's gonna let
me play and. Be myself i'll take. That opportunity And
coach hoddris emphasized that he has a lot of trust
in me and. MY abilities i think might, be like
ll just be, a, playmaker, yeah score just keep, people,
open honestly have an honor to open up the floor
(52:57):
for me is really big off of ball screen, and
stuff daft freaking, ship too and The Big man harland
down Though obviously i've never had like a real, big
before so that's gonna be a really cool experience. To
have and then obviously having b loads forty in for
six eight LIKE just. Nba athleticism it's gonna be it's gonna.
Be exciting i'm excited to play around. Better players obviously
(53:20):
what he said and, HE emphasized i won't be getting,
doubled Anymore like i'll be able to. Play freely and
that's That's what i'm excited for with my role as,
of that just be, a player just help.
Speaker 2 (53:31):
The team you won't get double, your hands go off
guard a.
Speaker 3 (53:35):
LITTLE bit I think i think he tried to make
up little Both, OF yeah i think like coming off
certain like stuff like those staggers, off ball and then
obviously it's getting like ball screens and stuff. Like that
it makes a little mix a, little bit a little
bit of both pick.
Speaker 2 (53:48):
And roll though you're good out out of the pick,
and roll so you gotta put yourself in some of those. Positions.
Speaker 3 (53:51):
Too, yeah yeah what.
Speaker 1 (53:53):
About the other end of. The, Floor oh ross is old. Defensive,
Guy yeah i'm not worried.
Speaker 3 (53:58):
About that i'm not. Gonna lie i'll. Be good evan
JUST thinks i can't play defense for, roh because like
my matchup was always just get the shooter off. The
line and then obviously over, The years, I'm matured i've
got a lot better since my freshman and junior year
and then this year obviously taking out of the LEAP
as i get my body right mentally. And everything, SO
yeah i just keep working every day and Listening To. Coach, hodge.
Speaker 1 (54:21):
Yeah it's. Gonna be it's a it's a heck of.
A process we'll talk more about that. Coming up, three
guys before the game is brought to Us By Jan
dill's Attorneys. At law they won't take no for. An
answer if you have a. Legal need when it comes
to a personal, Injury Case Jen dill's Attorneys at law
can absolutely take care. Of you they've been at it for.
(54:43):
Decades now Based, In Parkersburg, west virginia but do legal
work forty eight of our, fifty States Probably north, dakota,
TOO probably i, don't know forty eight out. Of fifty
so besides the, personal injury if you have need of,
legal help security, disability benefits military disability benefits. As well
(55:04):
that is where their area of. Expertise lies so if
you are someone that you know needs help in, that
world pay a Visit To Jen dill's Attorneys at law
and they will take care. Of you they'll say yes when.
They call when, you call they'll. Say yes but you
know what they. Won't do they won't take no for.
An Answer Visit jen dill's attorneys.
Speaker 3 (55:25):
At law did you.
Speaker 1 (55:26):
Want to Do a conly C.
Speaker 2 (55:27):
P a let's? Do, well Sure let's i've got some Numbers.
Speaker 1 (55:29):
On tracon if we're going to, do, THAT then, o
boy this has been a long long TIME since i
brought brought the. Music out let me. SEE here I
think i want to go selection. Right there let's do,
this THING so i check.
Speaker 3 (55:44):
The numbers we'll just go right to. The numbers.
Speaker 1 (55:49):
Let's jump into. The analytics worship of The show Spreads
on stats is brought to us By THE Conley. CPA group,
i mean what do? They do will they provide value
beyond numbers when it comes to any kind of? Tax
(56:14):
issues they. Got you they're celebrating year number forty, in
business local, firm experience. Local professionals and the neat thing
is they can help you if you're a. Business owner
they can outsource, your accounting you can OUTSOURCE your cfo
Services WITH Conley. Cpa group so what do these numbers
say about? Dive in should we pretend like he's not?
Speaker 3 (56:33):
Even?
Speaker 2 (56:33):
Here no because we're going to talk to him because he. Knows,
numbers like if you're paying attention to, this episode he's
dropped a couple notes in there about. The numbers you
pay attention to, the numbers not JUST your i don't mean.
JUST stats i mean the numbers of spots on the
floor that you're good from what you are and pick
and roll those type. Of, defas yeah like they tell
me this stuff during Season, is yeah so you guys
(56:54):
had you guys were. On it, All right let's look
at some of these thirty seven percent career three point
shooter in the, ninety game played over, three seasons so
closing up forty percent, From three you'll take that all.
Day long here's something we talked about Earlier trade your
three point attempt rate has dropped. Each season you were
a sixty percent three point attempt rate guy. Early on
that went all the way down to. Forty nine so
(57:15):
you talked about your, game expanding teams starting to run
you off. The line you had to adapt, to that
become a little more adept at gett into the basket
off the dribble type.
Speaker 3 (57:23):
Of, things, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. For sure, every year
like my, Freshman year my biggest thing, WAS like i
just want to get, into floor so just be like
a THREE and. D guy and then sophomore year obviously just. More.
Confidence YEAH obviously i played the backup one EVERY year i,
Played basketball so just more confidence. Than that and then
gave my a. Bigger rule and then this last year
(57:43):
is getting a big rule on.
Speaker 2 (57:44):
That, team yeah so that, shows, You right that's what we.
TALK about. A lot young guys come in, three points
get to, the line get your. Shot up as your
game grows and the events will start to take, that
away you develop a. Little bit he's obviously. Done that
This was this, Was. Interesting tony we Talked to trayson
before the show and he knew the answers. To this
asked him his most effective spot on the floor. From
(58:04):
three you knew right away it was the right wing
right wing forty four percent from right wing three. Last
YEAR and i think one of the great parts about
that we talked about the most frequent spot on the
floor for you in terms of shot attempts right. Wing
three so you're taking shots at the highest rate from
the spot that you were best on. The floor you
(58:25):
mentioned this earlier about isolation fifty two percent from three
when you were in. Isolation sets. That's good you'll take that.
All day i'll take fifty two percent from THREE in.
Iso situations that's a.
Speaker 3 (58:38):
New one we're here.
Speaker 2 (58:39):
To help here's the. OTHER thing i don't think we'll
see a lot of zone. Next year between You And.
Honor huff you were forty six percent from three last
year against. The zone now you didn't see it, a
lot but nearly fifty percent from three against.
Speaker 1 (58:50):
His, zone, Yeah, big yeah. That's it how many, of you?
Number seven how many you've mentioned that you used to
shoot off, The gun so like what's a good score?
Speaker 3 (59:02):
For you so like the OTHER day, i shot let
me just getting back into a group.
Speaker 1 (59:10):
OF things i just standing coming off.
Speaker 3 (59:11):
This injury, Seventy probably but LIKE when, i was you
and d we do this thing called one. To forty
you have, to shoot you have to make one forty
and however YOU like i split up into seventies and
like one of my scores is like seventy at a
seventy seven. That work the other one was like. Eighty
FOUR so I think i probably shot like eighty five.
Eighty six like that's like a good. That's good recently's been,
(59:34):
like seventies, seventy two, seventy three you and.
Speaker 1 (59:37):
The honor when you guys get on that floor and
start trying to match, each other that's gonna.
Speaker 3 (59:41):
Be nice that'll. Be, fun yeah it should be. Good,
Competition yeah i've no Offense to jackson, right Now but
i've been Shooting with jackson every day and today is
the first body. Beat me i'm twenty in one.
Speaker 1 (59:52):
Right now stat kind OF like cpa twenty and twenty
one you like the top OF.
Speaker 3 (59:57):
The K, two, YEAH yeah i would, say yeah like,
growing up that was probably. The hotspot and THEN when
i came out more ball screams and stuff like. The
ISOLATION stuff i would, work on like gribble pull.
Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
Ups from like. The wings, now yeah step, backs.
Speaker 3 (01:00:15):
Yeah a little bit like LIKE like i wouldn't say
like a step like probably just. Snatch. Back, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:00:23):
Sneakers you're a. Sneaker, guy no it doesn't put a couple.
Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
Of as long as it. Feels, good yeah this is
my first time. Buying, seekers ye because the wouldn't give
another pair of DAMES that i liked because they feel.
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
Good up There At. North dakota they wouldn't give to.
Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
Buy it.
Speaker 1 (01:00:37):
This year what?
Speaker 3 (01:00:37):
The HELL because I had, I had i had a
PAIR that i, really liked this, green pair and then
the laces broke and then like the shoe ended. Up

Speaker 3 (01:03:58):

that's okay, all right. We gotcha, Music EVERYTHING like i
grew up. ON country i don't do any like heavy, metal.
ROCK don't i don't do That Like ozzy. Osbourne STUFF
(01:05:22):
but i listening to a lot of music like, every
day probably like out of my, Twelve hours LIKE if
i have a twelve, hour dad probably eight to nine hours. Of.
Music yeah it's, like country, like.
Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
Okay like, what country like new Country Like morgan wall and.
Type country Jason Al dean rean LIKE like i like.
Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
THE girls i like the. Girls Personally Landy, wilson, Yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
See he kills me all the time because HE says
i don't like or. No music that's why we're just
res having a great. Music discuss get off me about.
Speaker 3 (01:05:52):
About a bunch of what about OLD like R and
b like NINETY doesn't R and b like jo Rul
shan ti like sure. LIKE that i listened to that.
A lot i grew up on that type.
Speaker 1 (01:06:01):
Of stuff do you have a selection of songs that
you always listen to when you're warming up before?
Speaker 3 (01:06:05):
A GAME and i would say it mixed just. Between
artists there's two ARTISTS that i would probably play most for,
A Game no cap And g herbo or like probably
the TWO that i would.
Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
Just push, shuffle on just bang them into, your head.
Speaker 3 (01:06:19):
Just, Shuffle, YEAH like i don't got to play this.
Or anything MAYBE some j cole once in. A while but.
Speaker 1 (01:06:24):
You're open to, Different stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
Yeah, no yeah. For, SURE yeah i got to listen
to a lot of different things. For, sure, okay cool.
Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
That's good so we, Did food we did we did music,
pretty good?
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
Did choose? Did choo did.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
Gear has got the nice gear from final looking, Fell, on.
Speaker 1 (01:06:44):
Yeah Why Did west virginia? Make sense why did? You
go like this is the place for me? Right now what?
Speaker 3 (01:06:50):
Do you what? Do you what?
Speaker 1 (01:06:51):
Intrigued you So after i'd.
Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
BE committed i my the only options were not my
only but the ones that were like big? Were you
why You? Can zaga West V and i think It was,
washington MAYBE but i wasn't Really liking washington. As MUCH
but i like how like there was everyone, was new
like there wasn't anything set. In. Place, KENTUCKY oh i
couldn't GO another sec SCHOOL because i saw my papers
(01:07:14):
there and that was. The rule Like, in zaga they
already HAD like i think they're really, big oriented like
you just gave him. THE ball i think THAT'S what.
I was THAT'S what i was hearing in the. By
you obviously they have they got a lot going IN
and I just I just i. JUST didn't. I didn't
I just i just didn't feel comfortable, with that, you
know as, a player and obviously my LAST year i
don't want. To PLAY so, i think like my biggest
(01:07:36):
thing with this squad is that they had a good
like a, nice salt like a punk guard that can
Play d that's like, That's. Good jasper You have honor
that can just shoot the piss out, Of IT and
i say that he can just shoot it whatever most
reason in. The country he just like you have to
like worry, About HIM like i like how you have
to worry about someone else like, Offensive THREAT like i
like That if i'm playing The same and then like
(01:07:58):
myself as, a playmaker having those two as just a
guard position alone, Like THAT like i just feel like
that opens a lot because last year our point guard was,
really athletic but he wasn't really a, shooter type so
like they just cried the paint. On him he would
cut and everything would just be kind of, like, Clogged
right and then having a person that like you need
to like you can't be short on his clothes OUT
like i like really like. That threat and then obviously.
(01:08:21):
BE low i really like. An athlete first team for
Him In, north texas like he knows how, play basketball
you know how.
Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
To Win brendon laurent for, Those Things brenda lawrence.
Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
Not bad and Then big harlan that's. STARTING five i
thought that WAS really I thought i had a lot
of belief in THAT and i had a lot of belief,
in us us our abilities, of winning and then obviously
just other Players like jackson everyone else chance like all my.
OTHER guys i just thought that was a good chance.
Of WINNING and i like. THE people i liked everyone that.
(01:08:53):
Was here and then on, my visit it's talking, to me,
my mom, my AGENT and i was like this? Probably
realistically is? Probably IT like i just, felt, right yeah.
Just yeah my first, IS season i just FELT like
i made, it prematurely so THAT'S why i didn't. Like
it but THIS one i could compare it, to something
and that's what made me more comfortable with. THIS season
i was a, kid, like Yeah like i'm, all in
so you're living in. The, GYM yeah i was just
(01:09:15):
there at, LIKE seven I, Took, JACKSON well i haven't
Been Telling jackson i've been. GOING by I TOLD jackson i,
was in let's go today at.
Speaker 1 (01:09:21):
Seven thirty you've been double you've been double dating?
Speaker 4 (01:09:24):
On?
Speaker 3 (01:09:24):
HIM huh, i, like well like what he one day
he was like really sore from us lifting and it's
like he can, barely MOVE and i TOLD him I
was i didn't TELL him i was gonna go shoot,
and STUFF but i shoot there like probably twice a
day once maybe. Three oundred three out of the five
days THIS week i, shot twice but today we shot at.
SEVEN thirty i listed at. A thirty i do a lot.
OF pets i do like pool workouts and stuff with.
(01:09:44):
My hip and then today everybody goes shack out some,
close store taking Nap because i'm. Really tired, so yeah
but and then we'll probably go shoot again and call it. A.
Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
Day yeah are you a late? Night guy sounds like
you're up early in, the morning so you go to
bed and then get.
Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
It.
Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
One yeah ever since, being here trying on, A schedule
i go to bed at least by ten. Every night
if it's past, ten nights it's not enough sleep. For,
You yeah i've been waking up every money like. Six
thirty think.
Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
About this you're, gonna, Eat right you're, Gonna lift you're,
Gonna sleep you're Gonna blow you're gonna.
Speaker 3 (01:10:13):
Blow. Up. Yeah YEAH so i Did this NETS one
o five drill on one of my Trainers in Jersey.
With toby there was like a guy in the nets
on the staff and they just drill with their pre
draft stuff With so NETS one o FIVE and i
just shot it the other day WITH our Gm stony
on that Was In, north texas, AND uh i got
like was? IT eighty i think he did on One
five and it's like different types of shots. And STUFF
and i was feeling. Really good, but Yeah today i'm
(01:10:36):
probably try to do more stuff off to Dribble since i'm. Feeling,
better yeah just dunk yesterday for the first time like
two weeks Because. The YEAH then i did a lot
of jumping today with.
Speaker 1 (01:10:45):
That trainer so when, you're healthy what's your? Dunk repertoire
what do?
Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
You, do yeah it's. NOTHING crazy i just like. BACKWARD
right i can like win me, on STUFF but i,
DON'T like i don't like. Do, THOSE okay i don't. Like.
Speaker 1 (01:10:57):
This listen we just need.
Speaker 3 (01:10:58):
You healthy. That's yeah like if IT'S like i blow,
By someone i'll go off one foot Dunk and i'm
not gonna go. Like crazy i'm gonna be.
Speaker 1 (01:11:05):
Low rocking you're not rocking.
Speaker 3 (01:11:06):
THE thing i probably COULD if i, really tried, But,
No yeah i've east paid one time in. MY life
i Don't think i'll do.
Speaker 1 (01:11:13):
It again how what was the average of Tenants At
north dakota for a.
Speaker 3 (01:11:16):
Game five at least a thousand plus, a thousand two,
thousand plus.
Speaker 1 (01:11:24):
You're gonna, like this this Will be i'll fill, It
up they'll fill.
Speaker 2 (01:11:28):

you use the same signal that the referee uses that
the three, Is good why don't you give it? Two
arms why don't you go? Two?
Speaker 3 (01:15:26):
ARMS true i feel like that's A lot sometimes that
you run another card.
Speaker 2 (01:15:31):
That's hard. To run you gotta, get back like you
can drop the three and still be running back. On
defense you're coming out any.
Speaker 3 (01:15:38):

Speaker 1 (01:15:54):
Do this let's say seasons, rolling along you bang, a
three which forces the other team to take a. Time
out now you don't have to go back and. Play
defense you know how? That goes like boom and he
just goes. Take Time what i'd like you to do
is when you walk To the, mountaineer bench just give
