Speaker 1 (00:08):
Hey, Hey, what is up.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
We welcome you in. It's time for three Guys Before
the Game. It's our first game recap of the twenty
twenty five football season. This is episode number six hundred
and fifty four. West Virginia is one to zero after
a victory over the Colonials of Robert Morris Don Neeland.
You know what Don Neeland would say if he was
(00:31):
still the head coach, You know tones all that tells
us is we're not gonna go winless. That's the only
thing we learned. We're not gonna be winless. That's all
he would say. Remember that.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
He was always told us a little bit. He kind
of he don don kind of underpromised. Then he would
over deliver it. He would kind of lay it low right,
Welcome in, everybody.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Hot right, say, playoffs straight ahead, somewhere somewhere in the middle,
fair enough.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah, probably somewhere better. Three Guys Before the Game is

time of the year to get out there before the
weather turns and really have some wonderful days since it's
not blistering hot. Three guys brought to us by Tutors
Biscuit World. Start your day the homemade way with a
Tutor's biscuit and hop he's got his camouflage Tutors mug
(01:44):
with him as well. A lot of biscuits sold over
the weekend on the way for the game.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Some with you this morning. I thought about it because
I'm hungry, is why.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Iron Sorry, I thought about it, and I just was not.
I was not on biscuit schedule. Okay this morning, that's
all right. Three guys this morning.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
So Comac's business systems keeping West Virginia's business data safe,
secure and efficient for twenty five years. Comas and those
water systems they have, Yeah, that's a good water. We'll
talk about those. And three guys brought to us by
Jan Dill's attorneys at Law. They won't take no for
an answer. Plus spreads on stats coming up. Conley's CPA Group.
(02:26):
Brad will break down some of the numbers from the game.
Conley CPA Group. Well, they provide value beyond numbers. They
go much much farther than just numbers.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
We've got a lot of them coming out of this game,
and we've got a lot of number breakdowns. Really well,
there's just a ton of good numbers to talk about.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
I thought you would go like, well, first game, one
game doesn't make a trend.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Well, I'll say that, I'll get my standard disclaimer. One
game is not make a trend. But there were some
good numbers.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
All right, let's bust into this bad boy. Hope you're
having a wonderful Labor Day weekend and enjoy because you know,
once labor day comes it's winter. Stop it just don't
do that. Yeah, you take all your white clothes out
of your closet.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Can't wear white anymore, otherwise they'll put you in jail.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Well, that's an old rule. You can do that. That
rule doesn't work and it doesn't know what. You can
wear white after labor day.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Don't wear you can't wait. You can't wear your spats
tony after labor day.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
It's spat reference. Yeah, we record here on the final
day of August and game number one, forty five to three.
West Virginia is victorious over the visitors from Robert Morris
and an interesting game in a bunch of different ways.
Let's face it, this was perhaps the one of the
greatest unknown season openers. The official tally total by the
time the game went of newcomers was eighty one eighty
(03:43):
one new players. It was like during the week, it
was like it trended upwards, like we got the free
agent acquisition. That's late. It was eighty one.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Yeah, it was seventy two for a long time, then
we got seventy five.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
I thought for a little bit, seventy nine. Yeah. And
then Friday I was talking to the the incomparable Michael Montoro,
who charges in charge of the whole football communication side
of things. I said, what's the number today, goes it's
going to be eighty one eighty one newcomers and they
had fifty seven over on the other side, one hundred
and thirty eight dudes.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
One that long ago you could only bring twenty five
players in per year per anciator.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Wait, you can only have one hundred and four players.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
It's not true.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
What is it now?
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Remember they shot that rule down before, like a month
or so ago. Remember rich had to make the cuts.
Rich bemoaned all spring about I gotta cut these guys.
I gotta go down to one oh five. It's not fair.
Why can't we grandfather this thing in?
Speaker 3 (04:31):
And then they went like thirty six hours later as well,
I don't have to do it.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
But Richard already made his cuts, and so then they
had to go come back. No good, West Virginia's got
we got a few play about one hundred and twenty
plus on the roster.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Yeah hop, I know you're going to jump into obvious
observations to start. Let me just say this because it
relates to those newcomers. So a couple a couple of
the things that jumped out to me just big picture,
not numbers, not performance. The fact that West Virginia seemed
to get lined up offensively, pretty efficiently most times was
was pretty impressive. I mean, you could see the urgency
(05:08):
in the tempo with with which those guys go is
really impressive. And there was one that jumped out to me,
and I think was it Nick Cray that lost his
helmet on One Planet Living Livingston ran about a three
two forty after the helmet that helmet and looked at
the sidelines, and normally guys when they lose their they
come off the sideline. My man was in a dead sprint,
(05:30):
you know, would have beaten sincere Bowers the head race
to get to the sideline. Someone else was in immediately
to replace him, and they didn't miss a beat.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
I think it's a fair statement to say that that was.
That was gone over in practice. That was and guys knew.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
I think Goo one time goes out of bounds and
runs over the gate on the far sideline and immediately
pops up. And normally the ball is lost at that point, like,
where's the ball? Who's got to find it? It's on
their sideline. You mabe never get the ball back. Not
only was the ball not lost, Nico's back up carrying
the ball and ran it back out quickly.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Yes, I think rich coach is that this way. I
don't care if you have to bring your arm with
you that's detached. You run to the sideline at full space.
So the helmet was no problem for listen, it was not.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
So that was one thing. And then on the defensive side,
it just seemed like guys were in right spots a lot.
There were a couple gaps where the receiver got through,
but not big giant misses or guys out of position
or guys getting caught looking in the wrong spot. I thought,
just the alignment on both offense and defense for game one,
for Rich running a tempo and Zach ally being so
(06:38):
multiple and so aggressive, I thought was really impressive for
the first game.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Which makes you say thank goodness for OTAs, because you
would never be able to do that if you had
assembled everyone August the first, and like in the old days,
if you couldn't go out in the summer with these
guys and do that, it wouldn't look anything like that.
So with all of that being said, it does set
up for a really interesting week coming up here with
Ohio University. We'll talk about that on our pre game,
(07:03):
which will be coming up later this week. So we're
going to focus here on Robert Morris. But I do
want to be the first to say, because you only
can use it once is what go ahead? Go ahead
say it.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
You will improve the most first and the second game.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yeah, that's football, lifer. You teams will improve their most
from game one game too, which makes things interesting for
West Virginia. Now there's a lot obviously, but offensive line,
I'd love to, you know, figure out what the what
the theme points are there. What's Jack Bicknell think about
his units performance? All of these units, like, I'd love
to know what their points are because obviously the biggest
(07:39):
mistakes in that game for West Virginia were just ball security.
It's the turnovers and uh, you know you coach that,
but you never know how that's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Yeah, and those are at times random, like you get
a helmet right on the ball a lot. So I
know people will say, well, if you have those turnovers,
going to be a long season. Yeah, it is. You
have three of those or four of those fumbles, five
fumbles a game, it's going to be a long season.
I don't think happens every game. I think there was
a lot of good that you take away. But let's
just get all the disclaimers out now. If we're going to,
like you said, what you improve the most between first
(08:08):
and second week. Also, let's just say this one week
does not make a trend. I also understand, all due respect,
it was Robert Morris, so you don't need to text us.
I get all that, everything that's about to be said,
we preface it with those three disclaimers.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
With that, it leads us into my favorite segment of
the entire show. Happy's obvious observations. Here's a guy that
didn't sleep last night because obviously he had to figure
out his observations. What do you have?
Speaker 3 (08:37):
No way this is still unsponsored.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Unsponsored, unsponsored. Well, obviously a couple of them you touched on.
One is that I went on at nauseum about how
the story was the return of Rich Rodriguez, and I
still believe that that was the story of the day. However,
I found myself when the game started, guess what, I
was focused on the game and the players. So the
whole story about Rich was the story up until the
(09:02):
time the game started. Then I then it kind of
for me kind of faded to the background. Was much
more focused on the game. That's first second of all,
like you all have mentioned, the speed with which this
offense operates, it is I think it's remarkable how fast
they go the entire game. And props to whoever the
official was who was spotting the ball, because he spotted
the ball and got out of the way. So I'm
(09:24):
sure they had conversations. So that's important. That's important because
you know, we've seen instances with officials like Dilly dowing around,
looking around.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Make sure gave it a dilly daily.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
So the speed to me was incredible, and as you said,
getting lined up was was remarkable. Nico's efficiency, Oh, we'll
get into that in the numbers. But yes, you're right,
and I'll let you dig deeper in the numbers. But
seventeen of twenty two, twenty four one touchdown, no interceptions,
a touchdown, running thirteen carries fifty six yards. What take
that all day?
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Oh my god, you take that all day? All day?
Speaker 1 (09:57):
I just thought he was really efficient and comp it
did not big thing. Not only made plays, didn't make mistakes, right,
did not make mistakes. Cam Vaughan looks like opponent of adjusted,
looks like could be a playmaker, game changer guy. He
made plays, made plays eight and it looks like a
favorite target was targeted eight times, called seven passes. And
(10:19):
that one touchdown was a perfect throw, a difficult catch,
very difficult made a play. How many times over the
years better we talked about can a guy make a
play downfield? The biggest key guy made a play defense
was solid. I'll know you get into stats. I mean
that Robert Morris opponent adjusted, couldn't do.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Anything almost literally couldn't do anyth couldn't do anything. Yeah,
I said this on sports Side Friday. I had a
feeling we have totally under discussed this defense, both in
terms of names of guys, personnel wise and just overall
what you do when Rich is the coach. Right, when
Rich is the coach, we've seen this, the offenses are
usually so dynamic it dominates the conversation. I thought I
(10:56):
was really impressed with the defense.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Defense was just solid all day. Turnovers and Brad, you
touched on this and again that stands out like a
like a sore thumb. But I have to think that's
an aberration. I mean, that just doesn't happen. You don't
fumble fumbled away three times in four possessions whatever it was,
So I think that's got to be an aberration. But
but going forward, I checked a stat on this. If
(11:20):
you're with if it's an evenly matched game, and it
depends on when in the game and where you fumblef
you fumble the ball three times, what happens you lose?
You lose the ball, you lose the game. The chances
of winning a game if you fumble the ball three
times in an even game is like one in ten
one in seven. So fortunately, unfortunately you fumbled, but you
did it against Robert Moore or somebody else, you probably
(11:41):
lose the game. Pac Man Fox Wow. A lot of
confidence in having pac Man Fox back there. He was
good five returns fifty two yards and average ten point four.
What's that do, Tony? For your field position?
Speaker 2 (11:53):
This is a game changer, literally, no pun intended.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Yeah, So those are my obvious observations.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
Well done, Hoppy, Thank you. Credits to the crowd.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
I mean, we've talked about the season ticket number, how
it's up, but crowd looked great.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
And I've said this many times.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Not many places in the country do a theme day
better than West Virginia. The stripe, the stadium is always awesome.
That gold Rush was tremendous, tremendous job by the fans,
and I thought, Rich, we'll get into the numbers here,
so I won't do that here. But I thought, just
one quick note on Rich's postgame Tony is when he
slid in there again, and he's not going to do
(12:28):
this every game, right, this is probably the end of this.
He's done enough of the I made a mistake. I'm
glad to be back. It's great to be here. And
he's not a guy.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Guys, he's not.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
A guy that was going to talk about walking out
before the game and looking at the stadium and get
all sentimental and emotional. But he did in the middle
to endish of that.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Press himself go a little bit.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
He did, and I thought it was a great It
sounded very sincere, and I thought it was a nice
touch where he just said, let me say this again.
He said, I'm just so thankful to the administration of
the Athletic Department, to Ren Baker for allowing us to
come back, and how appreciative I am to be back and.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
To be leading this program.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
And then he slid into to make this the best
program in America, and he said, we're a long way
from that, but that's the mission, and I'm very thankful
and appreciative to be back. And I thought that was
a good way to say it without dwelling, without going
over the top. He mentioned how great the fans were
and how great the turnout was, and then just added
in again how thankful he was to be back.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Yeah, that's appropriate. It was well said by him and
Brad and Tony. By the way, when he was hired,
it was I think you could call it, no, you
can call it a controversial hire. However, we did a
scientific poll, not anecdotal scientific with Rex Repass and Research
America and West Virginian's sixty percent favor the rehiring of
(13:45):
rich Rodricus. Only nine percent were against it. I think
between the time he was hired and the first game,
the support for him has increased.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Oh yeah, it increased. It increased the day of his
press conference, right, and in a couple of weeks he
beats Pitt. That sixty goes to seventy seven.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
It goes up right, or one hundred and four percent.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
But again if you lose. But but the point being
that that he is he's trending upward. Yes, okay, he's
trending upward.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Yeah. The speed which they operate that offense, and you
just got to remember, that's the first time, so it's
gonna get it's going to go faster once these guys
get really oil and that is a whole When that
thing kicks that first drive, it was absolutely basketball. They
were humming. It was a basketball game, and it was
(14:38):
really fun to see that because it's breathtaking to see
and it's breath taking away from a defense, and you
could see that there was like WHOA had a few
had a few guys go down from Robert Morris their
second half? Is that right?
Speaker 3 (14:50):
I was told by something in this room that maybe
that doesn't happen anymore because there's rules against that. I
was cautioned that that wouldn't be a thing.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Well, it was a hot day. Cramp, a lot of cramping.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Correct bad rule because that only applies. You can only
enforce that rule after the ball spotted for play, so
it's still there is no rule. I can just dump
jump down every time it plays over before they spotted,
I can get out, get away with it.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
And like many rules that are subjective in nature, block charge,
how do the officials got to make a judgment call
on whether the guys?
Speaker 2 (15:23):
I know, Yeah, that's a pretty tough one right there.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
It won't be the last time it comes up, but
it was. I thought it came at a weird time.
The game was already well out of hand, and I
would have done it earlier.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Yeah, first half, Yeah, I would have done it on
the first drive. Absolutely would have done it on the
first drive. Try to take away the tempo.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
It'll be a topic good discussion moving forward. I'll just
say that, do you.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Think it will it replace give me the targeting.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Give me the over.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
However many times you want to say it's gonna happen,
give me the over.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
And the way we're playing now, we're gonna lose. I mean,
it will become an obsession for West Virginia fans, obviously
all of us, now, every every like, no one will
ever get hurt on the other team. Thank you. I
just honestly that first reported.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Can I ask a dumb question?
Speaker 2 (16:03):
No such thing as a dumb question.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
This is but this is a dumb question. And most
people listening are very sports are very tuned in. How
does everybody know what to do when you're going that fast?
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Because you practice it?
Speaker 1 (16:15):
I understand you practiced it, But how does everybody know
the plays?
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Because there's they've they've they've evolved down to words a
one word bark.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
It's a one word. It's a one word, and you
just just marks out one word and go. You know
what else is reading?
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Obviously everyone reading everything receivers reading with the with the uh,
the leverages on the d back and he's looking at everything,
and then the quarterback is making all those calls as well.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
You you brought this up in our pre show extensive
production meeting. But let's talk about this before we get
into the numbers. I do like that, Rich, when something works,
When something works, run it.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Again, that hitch to Cam Vaughan, just like bang bang bang,
like are we gonna fix us or no?
Speaker 3 (17:02):
No. What was great about that is how many games
over and not just West Virginia games, just college football games,
when you watch when you're lined up and you may
have single covers in the defense's back, and so many
people watch, go, why don't you just throw it to
him and get the seven yards they're giving?
Speaker 2 (17:18):
Rich?
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Did that right?
Speaker 3 (17:19):
They do that, and they're because you just throw it
out there, and then that DBA could stay off again.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
And I'll tell you what we're gonna do. We're gonna
right back.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
I think the quarterback run or I called that. I'm
gonna let's call that the p w R. Pat White
rule is like Pat White going, let's keep going, keep running.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
So last year right and merch brings us up a lot.
Supposedly they ran the same play twenty six straight times.
I wish you had a camera on Kertchible right there.
He almost I almost got it for a full spit
out out of his out of his tutors travel much
twenty six straight times.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
And in that case, in that case, it's not hard
to get lined up because you're going to run.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
The opposing coach. The opposing coach said, like they ran
the same play, said yeah, I would have run it more,
and like, what fix yourself changing?
Speaker 3 (18:01):
Which is great. It's the to use a sports analogy.
It's like a baseball pitcher that in the old days
used to say with throw ninety five. Now you say
it's a baseball pitcher, there's one hundred and two. It
just says, all is that right here it comes? You
want to see our signals here, We're just gonna tell
you it's gonna be a fastball and you can't stop it.
And if you remember, West Virginia was like that back
when in the heyday, when it was rolling. It's like, oh,
you know we're gonna run. Okay, great, we're gonna yeah,
(18:22):
we're gonna run.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Here we go. Yeah, we're gonna write at you and
any question that rich Fron's gonna run a quarterback.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
No gotta be willing and Nico two hundred and thirty pounds.
You know, Nico's not gonna win. You know he's not
gonna beat you, sain Bolt, but two hundred and thirty
pounds is a load, and he's willing to stick his
face in there. That's all you need, that's all you
need to have.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
He coached for. He can get you six.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
Coach Hunter on Friday, sports Line brought a nugget. Heaviest
starting quarterback in the history of West Virginia football recently.
I bolted up to two thirty two. Yeah, how about
that light room.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Yeah, two hundred and thirty two pounds plus state champ,
multi state champion wrestler. So he's a tough.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Well, so you got that, and then you've got as
we talk, by the way, the overhits on quarterbacks played
this season. Thanks, I mean, I don't know why that
the lot was bad. Line shouldn't had three and a half,
should have had seven and a half.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
I hammered that quarterback.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
I hammered it all righted to and it didn't move enough.
So did you were you under on that.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
I was under. I was under well, I was under
four and a half. I mean, I'm looking bad right now.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
It gives you the opportunity though, with multiple quarterbacks, you
could put Nico back in the full back position on
a third and one if you needed to.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Good.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
So the quarterback number hits, which was impressed, and all
of them did something right. Jalen Henderson came in and
ran Scotti zer Away in his first game as a Mountaineer,
takes off and goes to the house on a big
touchdown run.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
That was awesome to see.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
By the way, Now it's it's it's like this new
and different offense that Rich is running. Really, it's like
nineteen fifty six, nineteen fifty five Notre Dame and Paul
Horning taking the ball for Notre Dame at quarterback and
running off.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
There there are times, yeah, there are times where it's
old school. Yeah, there are times it's also.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
But boy, it works. I mean it's right, well, we'll see.
But you like the option, You like the fact that
you got a quarter about that run.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
It did the game and the complete picture and I
know the first half was closed and it was fumble lay.
The complete picture is what we said you needed out
of this game. It doesn't tell you if you're good,
but it probably eliminated that you're really bad.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
Correct. I think that's what it did.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
There were enough playmakers, the mechanics of both sides, and
the fundamentals look pretty good. You have multiple guys at
every position, as Rich has been talking. So I think
we're live for that discussion of Bowl games should be
a goal. See how this big twelve shakes out. I
think you've eliminated that you're really bad three guys before.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
The game is brought to us by Jan Dill's Attorneys
at Law. They are exceptional in their world of business.
They do business nationwide and all fifty of our states,
clients in all fifty states, but founded based right here
in Parkersburg, still cranking along in Parkersburg. When it comes
to VA benefits veterans benefits, they are there for you
(21:01):
if you or someone in your family has military needs
and needs to file the claim. These are the folks
that can take care of you if something needs help.
Why Because it is a massive process to go through
the governmental issues that stand in front of our veterans
when they seek benefits. Jen Dill's does that every single day.
(21:24):
So if you are someone that you know needs help
in that space, they're there for you. Same with social
security benefits. That's where they're built their bread and their butter,
helping people with Social security disability benefit claims. Do that
let them walk you through that process. Also, three guys
before the game brought to us by Comak's Business Systems. Again,
(21:46):
you know how much water was consumed in that stadium
yesterday A lot? What if they just had those Comac's
water machines set up like various concourse levels. You know

Now it is time. Are you ready Conley CPA Group
cause it's season debut of a recap or yeah, yeah,
it is spreads on stats brought to us by con
(22:51):
Lea CPA Group. They provide value beyond the numbers. Brad
has already made the uh, He's made the call that
one game does not make a trend, right, And perhaps
the biggest thing we got out of this weekend was
it showed that West Virginia is not going to be bad.
The question remains is how good will they be. Folks
(23:15):
at Conley's CPA Group do so many things besides just
general accounting. They're full service accounting, but they also become
your business consultant, and if you need help with your accounting,

Speaker 3 (23:39):
So if I'm a business that I like the business
part of my business, I don't want to do the
accounting and the bookkeeping and the QuickBooks all they can
do that.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
If you found yourself in the past as a business
owner going likeck, if I could just do the business
instead of dealing with all this stuff. Yeah, that's when
you call it.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
You don't get into you don't get into business to
do the accounting and coy.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Yeah, Conley CPA group went into business to do the numbers.
That's what they do. Let them do your numbers. They
that's what they want to do. You don't want to
do it, So go find people that want to do
what you need done. And that works really well, Conley CPA.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
Perfect, here we go. Let's start. Coming out of the
Robert Morris game. West Virginia now sits with the third
best overall grade of any Big twelve team. Excuse me
to this point, third best grade overall of any Big
twelve team. Okay, all right, how about this Air Rodriguez
best passing grade of any Big twelve team?
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Really, why would you be surprised? Not surprised?
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Just Rich comes in, just Er, it's out, airs it out.
Everybody knows that third best run defense grade in all
of the Big twelve right now, early sample sized numbers.
Curtsey pff. All right, let's talk about some offensive numbers. First,
highest graded offensive players per Pro Football Focus. Ready, would
you like to take a guest because there's a lot
(24:55):
of candidate cho Nico number two, very big guests. This
is like feud style Niko number two. So Vaughan, No,
Vaughn's up there, but not number two. He was the
highest graded wide receiver, Cam Vaughan.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Hmmm.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Number three, highest graded offensive player, Jalen Henderson, and number
one jem the aforementioned Scotty z Aeraway, Scotty Fox, christ.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
N in there on limited snaps one, two and three
were quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
Pretty good.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
Nick Cray highest graded offensive lineman.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
That's encouraging. That was a good, right, So this was.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
This was one that I'll throw. I won't do a
ton of these. We'll get more as the season goes on,
as the data matures, as we always talk about. But
I thought this kind of backed up what we had
said before that the offense just looked the part.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Again.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
I know, all due respect to Robert Morris, you're going
to face better defenses, but the success rate for West
Virginia's offense just d and so success rate is defined
by if on first down you get fifty percent of
your needed yards, that's successful play. If by second down
you have seventy percent of your available yards, that's a
successful play. And then if you convert on third or
(26:06):
fourth down as successful play. West Virginia's offense had a
ridiculously high eighty two percent success rate yesterday. So again,
just a number that backed up what you saw in
the field that the offense was working. Let's go to
some individuals. Nico Hoppy. You referenced that eighty five percent
completion percentage yes day. How efficient was He just made
(26:28):
some tremendous shrows and guys caught the ball too, that's
the other part. Yes, guys just made catches. How much
better does the offense look when you throw it and
catch it pretty easy?
Speaker 2 (26:37):
It helps.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Nico had a career fifty eight and a half percent
completion percentage, So you talk about a massage jump. That
was a career high. His previous high was last year
versus Arizona eighteen of twenty two, eighty two percent. Here's
one that jumped out to me. He had ten point
five yards per attempt, which is good. Now, a lot
of that was yards after catch. I realized those receivers
(27:00):
did a good job of catching it and getting going.
But to put that number in perspective, and again it
was just one game. His previous high in any game
before that was ten point four against Cincinnata last year.
But on the season in twenty twenty two just four
and a half yards per attempt. Twenty twenty three, four
and a half yards per attempt. Last year, it took
(27:21):
a nice jump to seven point eight yards per attempt,
and day one game one ten and a half yards
per attempt.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Very good.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
Had one rushing touchdown yesterday on pace to go over
the four and a half. Thank you had three career
rushing touchdowns entering yesterday, But I had one yesterday.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Go ahead, just that again you still those are great numbers.
I do think they speak speak well of how West
Virginia performed. You do have to constantly remind opponent of
Justin because that long touchdown passed Havevon.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
What did he have to be able to do that
time and time in the receiver head space?
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Yeah he had time. No, it was a good protection.
Yeah there was here. This one jumped to me too.
Nico had five carries of more than ten yards all
of last season. Five carries of more than ten years.
He had three yesterday, which led the team, and that's
not necessarily what he's in there for is to bust
off ten yard run. So I thought that was encouraging. Again,
(28:20):
offense was running no matter who you put in there.
But really really good again Happi's obvious observation. Arm so
really good first game for Nico. I thought he was
really efficient good.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
And what that does is now in Ohio University and
future opponents start looking at West Virginia. When you have
a quarterback that shows the ability and the desire he'll
go run, it completely changes completely, changes how defenses can
scheme you up and play. It changes everything they can do.
If your statue of liberty and you're just gonna drop
(28:50):
back and go like this, they go like h kind
of like those hyenas, like they go, it's all gonna
be just gonna be standing back there. We're gonna full chuck.
But when those hyenas, no, guess what, you might put
your tusks on and you might start running down the
field after them. It changes the complete dynamic of everything.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
Yeah and OUs and changes the passing game as well,
because you're not quite sure what's guy's on it. But
then you bring in these other guys that we've already
talked about. But Jalen Henderson comes in, two carries, goes
for forty yards. So he also showed the ability you
give him a crease or a crack and he can
take off and go. We mentioned Scotti Fox that big
run in his first game. Khalil Wilkins comes in late,
(29:28):
gets a couple carries, two carries thirty six yards for him.
So as advertised, and again we often say coaches don't
always give you the the unvarnished truth when they talk,
he was true to his word. Rich was about the
quarterbacks right, felt that they could all do something, and
he talked after the game that those other guys would
have been in earlier had you taken care of your
business in the first half. But he did find a
(29:49):
way to get four different guys in in that game, right.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
And you might be wondering about Max Brown. He did
not get in the game, was not dressed in uniform.
He was dressed on the sideline there and sweats or whatever.
But he Rich mentioned had a little bit of a
hamstring and so that's why he did not have gear on.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
Let's talk running back for just a second, because again
another position that we had a lot of questions about
outside of Jaheen coming in just in terms of depth
of who you were going to see hop but Jahim
first question there. Jehem had moments where he looked like Jaheim.
You can see what he does. This number jumped. Well,
let's do two numbers on him. First of all, eighteen
carries in that game. Only two games in his career
(30:25):
where he's had more nineteen against Oklahoma State a couple
years ago or last year, twenty one against Cincinnati in
twenty twenty three.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
That's a shocking stat. Almost shot a career high in
game one. Shocking stat.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
What do you mean that Rich used one guy and
ran him a lot? No, because that's not shocking. No,
you would have thought that that Jehem White had more carries.
You with thought, I would have bet a bunch of
reci cups from over there at the Gomart that he
would have had giant ones or just the regular size, any.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Of them, the manhole cover ones that now weigh thirteen
pounds they got over there. I would say he had twenty,
that he had twenty five or more multiple times in
his career. Yeah, So this is whatn'ty. This guy had
sixteen hundred yards going in the last night yesterday's game.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
So again the workhorse part when we talked about this,
when we talked tried to project Jehem's yards when if
you stay healthy and you have a premiere back, Rich
loves the premiere back and we'll give you the ball.
And it showed up there in game one, Jem was
really good. This number jumped me. Eighty two of his
ninety three yards came after contact, eighty eight percent. I
(31:28):
thought he ran really hard. Yes, yes, that's what you
were gonna say.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
One percent. They have been on him to do exactly
what he did. He ran different yesterday than he has
run in the past. He put his shoulder down and
he got yards after contact. I bet he as the
season goes on, I bet you his yards after contact
will go spiraling high compared to what he's done in
(31:52):
the past.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
Thank you for talking about in the past, because I'll
give you some numbers that we can track that. So
eighty eight percent of those yards after contact yesterday, just
one game. Last season, seventy one percent of his yards
after contact, give me that way and say that again
last season seventy one percent of his total yards after contact.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
But here's the big one. Was it yesterday eighty eight percent?
Speaker 3 (32:13):
In twenty twenty three just forty eight percent of his
yards after contact? So it took a big leap from
freshman year to sophomore year, and then a big leap
from sophomore year to game one yesterday, So we'll keep.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
An eye on that.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
Fifty six percent of his yards against Robert Morris came
either around the left tackle or around the right end
all the way outside, so half his yards around the
outside edges, which is no surprise.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Kind of rerupt you sure? So to me, number one,
Jeem White for West Virginia holds a massively important part
of this season going forward, and yesterday to me was
going to be his first test. Are you in with us,
us being the new staff, or are you going to
(32:59):
not come fully in with us? And they have been
on him hot and heavy during pre season to try
to explain to him, this is what we require if
you're going to play for us at that running back spot,
and I wondered, I wondered before the game. I talked
to someone within the program on Friday and I said,
(33:20):
where do you think he stands on all this. He
said he wouldn't still be here personally, he still wouldn't
be here if he wasn't going to buy, and like
he couldn't have lasted as long as he did up
to this point. So we think that he'll be fine.
And he went out there and he said, I'm gonna
show you a little something here, and he added to
his game.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
Yeah, I thought it was clear. Once that red light
came on and the game was played, he looked like
a dude. He looked like the Jeem White you were
hoping you would see. And he the numbers back that up.
An encouraging part. I thought Clay Ash had a couple
of nice uns. He looked like he's a guy that
can play for you as well the former walk on.
But Sincere Bowers is a guy we've talked about a
(33:58):
bunch of guys Rich Rich wants speed. Rich has talked
about speed. Rich has said to us privately and publicly,
they need more speed. They got to get fast. That
was the key from five to seven right. There was
none of this sec speed bs. It was West Virginia
speed back in the day. Bowers is one of those
guys that has it. The transfer from Iowa Central. How
about in his first game that touchdown run that he had.
(34:20):
You saw that burst tony he got when he got
through there and took off. I thought, sincere Bowers looked
really good and capable through one game.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
Yesterday, thoroughbred like copy kind of came out of that
gate and went.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
Like you in your pregame interview with the coach yesterday
which I listened to, and you asked him about speed
and he seemed confident that they were okay, not where
they want to be, but it's like, okay, we're okay.
We got to get better, but we have some speed.
So that was encouraging. It wasn't did you what it was?
That your takeaway as well?
Speaker 3 (34:50):
Yeah, but six carries fifty four yards for Bowers officially
nine yards of carry, which.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
Can we take that for the rest of his career?
So I think that rich when he when he first
got here, remember one of his continuing lines was we
need to get a lot more team speed. That was
one and they went through spring and then he said,
we need more team speed. And then they went out
and got some more team speed. And Sir Bowers is
one of those late guys post spring and I think,
to answer your question, I think he thinks it's improved
(35:17):
from what it was, but they still have to go
several steps to continue. Because you remember when we talked
to him, we were coming off the field in spring,
and he said, we said, what do you think He said,
don't have a couple of guys yet with breathtaking speed.
Breathtaking speed. He lives like he lives for breathtaking speed
because look, in the past, I mean, his guys that
(35:37):
were his best are guys that just can make plays
in the open field. He feels that the hardest play
to make is in the open field in football. So
his whole, his whole deal oftentimes is designed to get
guys just an open field. So you got, if I
give me a fast guy, chances are I'll win in
a one on one.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
And guys, we've talked about that forever that in college football,
the need for big plays is so massive because it
is hard to sustain twelve yard drives and if you
have to mulch and get four and five and three
and one and seven yards per carry and march down
the field, what generally happens.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
Well, something goes wrong. You get the personal foul and
it's just, yeah, you can't do it.
Speaker 3 (36:18):
Yeah, So it makes sense that he wants some speed
where this line doesn't have to mulch for twelve plays.
It has to create a couple seams and then elite
athletes take off.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
And go and again.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
Jaheim is one of those guys, and Bowers from a
pure speed perspective, is also one. So I thought that
was encouraging, not only that he got in, but that
there were results that backed up what he did.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
Clay Ash got absolutely rock Oh so he didn't come
back in after that, so we'll have to see exactly
like that.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
The jet sweep was coming and he just the the
defender took Ash and absolutely drilled.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
It.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Might have been a little helmet to helmet contact on
that one. Nico kept it and took off, but you're right,
that was a that was a big hit.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
He wait, ash Man like, he is an absolute anomaly.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
You do not see guys of that speed or that size.
I should say that run that hard or that fast.
I mean, he is fearless and I'm happier in heck.
You know that he's here because he is an outlier
in this game where you look at you know, the
(37:22):
prototypical what that guy looks like. No, it's here in
your head and your toughness, and he's gonna make plays.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
And he's worked his tail off the last couple of years.
I mean, you don't see a lot of walk on
ball carrier backs, like walk on full back, h back
hybrid type walk on ball carriers doesn't happen a whole lot.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
I was talking to someone in the program and they said,
this dude's wired a little bit different. His whole deal
and growing up was he has been put into situations
like mountain climbing, rock climbing, hill climbing, like mental toughness stuff.
That's like his whole background is all that which you
(38:00):
have to have if you're going to play at this
level and not be you know this, this this is
an enormous, ginormous guy. To play in this position, you've
got to be just mentally an absolute rock. And I
think that's what you got there.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
All right, let's jump over to the defense again. Really
impressed with how the defensive played and hoppy you said it.
Robert Morris almost literally did nothing, just almost literally did
nothing yesterday, highest graded defensive players per PFF. Anybody want
to guess on defensive graded players.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
Chase Wilson probably pretty good.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Chase Wilson very high. Number four for Chase Wilson, he
was He called his name a lot yesterday.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
Frederick Frederick Perry.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Frederick Perry, number three, a guy we have liked since
we did the Jacksonville State Bowl game on national radio.
When we identified him before we knew his name. Who's that? Remember,
we said, who's that guy? And is he coming with rich?
Hopefully that was fred Perry. He did a lot of
different things yesterday. He was number three. Caaraco number five
also had a good game. Number two Hammond Russell one
(38:57):
of the guys we do know the name. Hammond was disruptive,
tony two sacks yesterday. He was a load in the
He he did what you want a guy in the
interior to do. He was a load up front.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
I'm gonna give you two. I hope one of them
is right.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
There's only one spot left there.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
I know there was five. One spot left. It's either
Devin Grant bing I got no, you didn't get it.
Speaker 3 (39:15):
And I was surprised because when I'm opening the app
and my first note I made coming in today, I
said defensively. Let's talk Devin Grant, because I thought Devon
Grant was in on one hundred and twelve.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
Tackles and had eight sacks.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
Every time I looked up or would hear you, there
were Devon Grant, and there's ninety one Demo Grant, there's
Devin Grant.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
I'll give you another one. Yeah, Devin Grant was like six.
He was up there. He had a good game.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
I'm probably wrong here, but Edward Kelly, No, not there,
Not Edward Kelly, Ben Bogel, I wouldn't have been Bogel
good grade. Do you have your big charts?
Speaker 2 (39:43):
I do? Can you access those here? Real quick?
Speaker 3 (39:46):
So I want to talk about the I thought this
was this was pretty interesting, hoping Tony sent me this
yesterday so he could try and follow on because there's
so many new guys on Tony's charts.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Here.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
He has the two linebacker positions, and he has renames
on each side. Middle linebacker Karrico, Bogel, Ashton Woods, number
thirty three, other side, Chase Wilson, then Ben Cutter and
number twelve John Lewis. Quick side note. Did Ben Cutter
have a nice offseason.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
In the weight room? May have gotten a bit bigger.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
It got some arms, Ben Cutter, all six of those
guys out of the linebacker position I have written down
before I looked at grades or anything, I had made
notes on all six of those linebackers making place.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
How about that.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
That's pretty darn good. John Lewis, number twelve, Ashton Woods
was around. Yeah, a ton of balls. I thought all
of those linebackers had a nice day. Four sacks. You
had twenty all of last season, ninety eighth nationally, and
so much of last year's struggles came on the defensive side,
hoping and we know the coverage, and we know the
linebackers couldn't cover last year, we know the defensive back struggled.
(40:52):
Some of that was because you didn't get enough pressure
right four sacks, So not only were you getting pressure,
it resulted in some loss of eight tackles for lost
four sacks. There's only seven teams in the nation that
have played one game that have more sacks through those
one games. Again, small sample size stops. I use this
stat a lot. This is a PFF stat that is
(41:15):
defined as a failure for the offense. So these are
generally your best defender by the end of the year,
we'll end up with your most stops. Okay, Fred Perry
led the team yesterday four stops. Chase Wilson right behind
with three. Makes some sense. Those are two guys that
you probably thought would be right up there. Havoc makes
an early return to Havoc boys Havoc.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
Again.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
These numbers will mature as we move. We'll keep an
eye on this.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
This will be a big number all year because this
whole thing is based on Havoc.
Speaker 3 (41:44):
I think Westernings defense broke the computer. I'm not sure
this is right listed as a front seven Havoc number
two hundred percent overall, Like, I don't even know that.
Speaker 5 (41:56):
I I don't even know how that can be define
havoc for a yeah, havoc is a HAC play would
be a tackle for loss, a batted pass, so deflection,
a broken up pass and interception of forced fumble, any
of those things.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
Kind of what you would think a defensive play that
created something. They got to be wrong, that's wrong, that
can't be right. How to be wrong?
Speaker 1 (42:17):
List it's two hundred percent compared to the last year
in a game or something like that.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
But here's what's not a typo. We just mentioned. We've
mentioned it twice that Robert Morris almost literally did nothing.
Their success rate, I told you what was Western day
is eighty eight percent. Yeah, Robert Morris's success rate. So
first down fifty percent of the yards, by second down
seventy percent of the yards, or a third or fourth
down conversion zero percent.
Speaker 1 (42:41):
That's low.
Speaker 2 (42:42):
There's only one way to go up for them.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
Pretty good defense and that concludes the first that's good.
Speaker 1 (42:48):
Five Yeah, very good. How much let me say this
that those are really good numbers. How much do you
want to temper those numbers? Opponent adjusted ton a ton?
Speaker 3 (43:01):
But I think we'll say what we sat, what we
always say in this. We're not coming in here going well,
I don't know about the receivers. Can somebody make a playoff?
And we didn't mention Jayden Bray, who I thought had
a really solid game and made some catches. We were
wondering because we heard so much about Jaden but hadn't
seen him play. He came in made some plays. Man
Man Singleton was targeted a lot. You said his name
(43:22):
a bunch yesterday as well. So I think you come
in with different guys in pieces that you saw that
said Okay, now let's see what you get here comes
the stairstep Ohio, you is going to present more of
a challenge and you go on the road. But I
think you saw what you needed to see in Game
one to feel like, okay, reasonable to have Bowl season
expectations on this team.
Speaker 1 (43:41):
Okay, okay in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (43:45):
Spreads on stats brought to us by the Conley CPA
group three guys before the game, coming up to textual healing,
also brought to us in part by lou Wendell Marine
Sales in Saint Albans. They do sell family fun and
they happen to be celebrating forty years in business. It's
located in Saint Albans. They are award winning, consistently named
the best in their class throughout the Canal Valley and beyond.
(44:06):
So if you are interested in the boating world, they
sell avalon pontoon boats, which are absolutely terrific. You know,
we finally get that settled, right or wrong, whether or
not they have, I think it's right. They have provided
the James Bond movie series all of the pontoons ever
used in a James Bond movie or checking into that,
and also those G three John Boats do a great job.
(44:30):
So if you need anything when it comes to boating,
visit Lou Wendellmarne sales dot com. That's Lou Wendelmarine at
sales dot com. We mentioned Tutors biscuits earlier as well.
Hopey did not. I said he did not bring any
Tutors biscuits in the past when we've recorded on these
Sunday mornings. He does bring them in sometimes you were
you were a pretty consistent last year's game. Don't forget that.
(44:52):
If you do, those start start a tradition. If you
do visit the Tutors, we strongly encourage you to check
out those three new barbecue sauces. Three new barbecue sauces.
They have got that Saracha which is just terrific, Carolina Goals,
Carolina Gold, the sweet Teriaki. They're all there, they're all
(45:13):
available for you. Check them out. Next time you go
to a Tutors, try one of those new sauces out
and then let us know what do you think? What
do you think? What do you think? All right, I'm
not going to jump ahead because we're still doing Robert Morris,
but like, what's the line going to be? That's a
great question.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
The ratings have West Virginia somewhat preseason power ratings by
ten or so, so I was thinking this line probably
somewhere between seven and ten. West Virginia favored Ohio. You
lost a ton of dudes. They have their quarterback back Navarrow,
who's very good. We'll talk about but they lost a ton.
But then I tell you what. They opened the season
and they went in there. I'm only threw quarter one
(45:49):
of that game, so I'm going back and watching it.
But they lined up again a Rutgers and gave them
all they could handle. Yeah, gave the fighting Shannas. I
mean Shaanna was chopping wood right up to the end
to try and get that win. So wift watch. They
played pretty well in the challenge. Give me an early
without I haven't done any looking at that today to
see where the revised power ring is, but give me
somewhere between maybe a seven and ten.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
I'm thrilled par closer to seven. I'm thrilled with two things. Well,
I'm thrilled at Ohio. You gave Rutgers everything that they
could because that immediately gets your guys locked in. Chase
Wilson after the game and his postgame press Covering said, yeah,
I did watch the Rutgers game, and I watched Ohio you,
and he goes like, they're really good. Yeah, and they
already know about the quarterback. You're going to get a
(46:32):
run pass quarterback this week, and so Zach Ally and
that defense are going to be really tested. And so
now at least West Virginia has won in the book
that they can take a look at and see how
Hio use running their stuff. So this is going to
be a fun, fun chess match coming up this weekend
to see how West Virginia's defense, which seems to have
some really good speed. Coach Wallace, who's watched a lot
(46:53):
of football through the years, immediately looked at West Virginia
said defense fast.
Speaker 3 (46:59):
It's a great point because that if you should have
started with this too. That's really I agree with that.
As you looked just out at the defense. Don't worry
about numbers or who's doing They just felt fast and
athletic right they were they were running to the ball,
they were around. I think that's a good assessment there.
They do look faster. Rich mentioned he watched some of
that Ohio you Rutgers game too. I'm anxious to get
into this because the flip side of that, though, I
(47:20):
thought that OHIOO offense looked very good, and then their
new head coach, their former offensive coordinator. We had their
bowl game as well, and they looked very good defensively,
though Rutgers ran on them. So Ohio you, I mean,
you might want to strap in because you're getting a
heavy dose of So here you go, Here you go
to these guys already not a taunt, just saying I.
Speaker 2 (47:41):
Won't be able to go in there to Athens and
they're gonna point at me and say, there's the guy
that's talking smack against the.
Speaker 3 (47:45):
Bobcat all due respect and did not talk smack. Just
said you're gonna get some. You're gonna get a heavy
dose to the ball on the ground.
Speaker 1 (47:52):
A big, a big focus week because people around them
are gonna say, boy, I can't wait till pick comes in.
I can't wait till the pit GA mean people Brad
Worth and Tony Worth of Tail. Okay, people already talking
about the pick game. Well, so, and so that's what
we'll just tell you.
Speaker 3 (48:07):
What we're going to open the preview with this is
by definition of trap game, absolutely you're off a great
performance and an open opener against an inferior opponent. Now
you're on the road at a tricky place with a good,
experienced quarterback, and you have your biggest rival and a
massive game on deck. Yeah, it's the definition. So what's
this team able to do?
Speaker 2 (48:27):
Can you go? Can you go?
Speaker 3 (48:29):
Make it a business trip? This is a business trip? Hoppyous?
Speaker 2 (48:31):
They say, yes, the heck. They're going all the way
up there to Columbus to spend Friday night. Yeah, I
mean they're not. You can't stay in Athens. They don't
have what they need there as far as hotels go.
So they're going to go to Columbus.
Speaker 3 (48:40):
Well, we'll be a nice contingent mountain near fans. At
that time, we already talked to a few people that
already have bought season tickets in order to have their ticket.
Speaker 2 (48:47):
I talked to someone, I talked to something. We'll get
into this food court that we did this weekend as well.
Also something else is trendy. And again, you, I really
wish you would apologize to me about attacking me when
I announced that we were going to be doing things
with Buffalo Wild Wings. You guys jumped all on me.
And I said, and it's not done yet. It's not done.
It's done, and now the thing's exploding.
Speaker 3 (49:06):
I mean, you missed the details on it, but it
is exploding and it was a great event. All right,
let's do right about that.
Speaker 2 (49:11):
Let's do this. Was he mistreat details as usually? I
mean as usual? I mean he's a lot of detailed.
Speaker 1 (49:15):
Guy's lucky.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
I'm drowning you guys out with my music. I noticed that.
Speaker 1 (49:21):
Do you know there's a story today on the CBS website.
Help to check with Ben Kirchill about that? What is
Kaylen de Bor's buyout?
Speaker 2 (49:29):
I knew that was not gonna be a good day for.
Speaker 3 (49:31):
Them, fellas Saban. If I got the number right, I
don't remember where I saw this. I'm sorry, I can't
attribute it. Saban was like one thirty, two and two
at Alabama when he was a ten point more favorite,
or maybe it was fourteen or more favorite.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
Poor Kaylen de Bor just four and four. Yeah, that's
not gonna go. Well.
Speaker 3 (49:49):
Calendor is a really good football country.
Speaker 2 (49:51):
But what's the word, what's the rules?
Speaker 1 (49:54):
What's the rule?
Speaker 2 (49:55):
You don't want to be the guy after the guy
and that is the guy of all guys that ain't
gonna go well, ain't gonna go well? Three guys before
the games, time for textual healing. Let's do this.
Speaker 1 (50:07):
We should be right.
Speaker 3 (50:07):
Alabama lost yesterday?
Speaker 2 (50:09):
Yes? Is that a conference? They only lose?
Speaker 3 (50:11):
I mean the SEC. Nobody beats the SEC? It was
so they lost? It was no, it was a non
conference game.
Speaker 2 (50:17):
They post time for textual healing, which is brought to
us by episode eight hundred dot com. You can reach
us via the text line at three zero four four
oh four forty eighty three. But the music step so fast,
I'm going back. I'm gonna play it again three oh four,
four oh four forty eighty three. Whenever you need so
(50:38):
people will have chimed in. Let's do some of these
texts visitor site. By the way, episode eight hunter dot com.
A lot of people that I met this weekend. They
drink our coffee from game day, grind from Mountney roasting
the popcorn and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (50:51):
So let's uh connection three oh four huge hit.
Speaker 3 (50:55):
Yeah, yeah, well we'll get into the well him. We're
there from Parkers Company again, porn out. They were awesome.
Beer was great.
Speaker 2 (51:01):
Okay, so we get a great deal of texts during
the course of the week and between shows, and especially
when it comes to games, so not every text is used.
Try to get the general theme of the game. Whether
your text has used we or not, we certainly appreciate
(51:22):
you listening and chiming it. Here we go, Roger up
there in Maine. Okay, up in Maine. Goal one was
to establish the culture, and I think they were well
on their way to accomplishing that. I'd loved seeing the
defense swarm to the ball again. I only saw a
couple where someone in the coverage was in the secondary
was out of place. The airs where all things that
can be cleaned or fixed. I feel the same way
(51:44):
about the fumbles. Fixable. I don't think it's going to
be an issue. Slow start, but basically a totally new roster,
new system. But they played well in the second half.
I feel the old line will improve every week, start
to build on what looks to be a solid foundation.
My biggest takeaway well though, was this Jaheem White, watching
him run and deliver the hits instead of taking the hits,
(52:05):
pushing guys back while dealing others behind him. To me,
he was setting the tone for what hard edge is
meant to look like on offense, in my opinion, looked
like he's going one hundred percent every play, leading by
example when it comes to hard edge culture. Yeah, yep, yeah,
we discussed that, and I think you're exactly right. Thank you.
Roger Glenn from Glenn Ferris Wrights Scopes. Hello, midgame text
(52:29):
here recalling your unprovoked attack on hyenas in a recent episode.
As I sit on my back porch right now, enjoying
a beautiful Georgia afternoon, West Virginia hot dogs and adult
beverage or five and enjoying the World Champion Mountaineers on MSN,
I was shocked to hear you describe the WVU defense
as a pack of hyenas at the six minute mark
in the second quarter. So what is it you pro
(52:51):
hyena or not. That's a good job.
Speaker 3 (52:54):
I don't think Glenn from Glenn Ferris is his real name,
but that's good text.
Speaker 2 (52:57):
I am row hyena when it comes to attacking something
that I want attacked. I am anti hyena when I
feel that they're unnecessarily attacking something they shouldn't be attacking.
Speaker 1 (53:10):
Well, that's so you want it both ways that I'm
probably attack I Carr.
Speaker 2 (53:21):
You want to want some, go get you some, but like,
don't be playing with.
Speaker 3 (53:25):
I'm swarming and circling it.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
But don't be doing that to people that are like
you shouldn't be messing with.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
Here's I'll take the macro on that you've got. You
have fixations and right now you have like a Hyena fixation,
and you're just gonna apply it however you want to
apply it. If it's a negative, you will apply it.
If it's a positive, you'll apply it. You just it's
it's all, it's all emanating from Hyena.
Speaker 3 (53:48):
I have to say that was a good explanation by him.
That was a really good explanation when he wants something attacked,
like yeah.
Speaker 2 (53:55):
Yeah, and if I don't want to attack, you better
stay away. Lying going to come again to put one
of them in their mouth and just start swinging it
around Michael and Clodin. Remember he made that fudge that
that was his wife made the fudge. That was great, judge.
I will admit at the half, I was thinking this
year is going to be a disaster. But after the
second half and some hard pondering, the first half was
(54:16):
not going to be good. Regardless, this team may very
well continue to improve through the year barring injuries. Let's go,
you're allowed to improve, you are you are allowed to improve.
Speaker 1 (54:25):
And they improved, and they got let's just first and
again opponent adjusted for the umpteenth time. But you were
curious to see how they were going to come out
in the second half because you were holding your breath
something like, is this going to be like a like
a twenty to ten game, and you're not going to
feel good?
Speaker 3 (54:44):
But they came out and like, it's just wild though
the expectations that sometimes go along with this.
Speaker 2 (54:48):
I mean, if of course.
Speaker 3 (54:49):
They're going to get better, they had not played in
a game, and that group had not played together. Okay,
it looked a little off at the beginning, Yeah, get better.
Speaker 2 (54:58):
I was incorrect. And during the first half when those
fumbles happened, Yeah, I said, don't know if they've repainted
the locker room walls in the off season, but when
Rich goes in there at halftime, that paint's coming off
of those walls. And Rich specifically said a postgame like,
I didn't go in there and take the paint off
the walls. And Jed was in there, and.
Speaker 4 (55:18):
Jed said he was like, hey, guys, that was about
as bad as we could possibly play. But we're doing everything,
So I think, what why Rich didn't lose his mind.
He felt they were playing hard to his definition of hard,
and he said, hey.
Speaker 2 (55:31):
The mistakes. Stop doing the mistakes, and we're going to
be totally fine. They went back out for the best.
Speaker 3 (55:35):
So a couple of it was you were controlling the game,
and so live betting looks exactly like that, Like if
you're doing live betting right, you're looking at that game,
going this is what was at halftime?
Speaker 2 (55:45):
Ten to nothing, ten.
Speaker 3 (55:45):
Three, ten three, and you go, well, give me the
live line here. I mean, West Virginia's dominating this game.
It's three plays that are probably not going to repeat themselves.
Happened last night in Clemson LSU Clemson led at the half.
Speaker 2 (56:00):
Was kind of hayensk.
Speaker 3 (56:01):
He was doing a lot of yapping early and he
probably should not have been. If you were watching that
ls you look like a team like they're not scoring here,
but ls U's the better team. What happens it come
through and one and so I thought that was first
half versus second.
Speaker 2 (56:12):
Half Texter gentlemen halftime thought I did not like the
booing of the team as it left the field was there,
There was, There was m h and and I thought, yeah,
that's a good point. So here's the deal. I again,
now that everyone's getting paid in the whole thing, you're
probably leaning more toward Okay, it's probably gonna happen more.
(56:36):
But that was not that was not the situation to boo, because,
in my opinion, you boo when like there's lacksadaisical effort
and people are just nonchalant about things. Those were like
those fumbles were some helmets hitting the ball and those
are mistakes, but statistically you were absolutely mulching them like.
(57:00):
That was not the time. I agree, I didn't like
the booing there.
Speaker 1 (57:04):
However, watching the game, you're doing the game, we're all
watching the game. That was really really difficult to watch.
When they fumbled three consecutive times, with three out of
four times, that was just weird frustrating, and you go,
what is going what is happening here? So I mean
there is a natural passionate reaction to that. Yeah, I
(57:27):
get it, but like it frankly would have been worse
if it had been ten to three and they had
not fumbled, because then you'd be going, Wow, you can't
dominate this team.
Speaker 2 (57:36):
So yeah, Charlie from Midlothian. I bet not too many
people had Robert Morris and his West Virginia connection on
their Bengo card that you guys mentioned. Hopey mentioned on
Thursday's podcast Elite Story. If only he had kept the
mineral rights, as Brad suggested, he would have made tons
of more money from coal. He would a good way
(57:57):
to start the season, glad I got going second half
Scotty Fox. They made a lot of people happy with
that TV run, so he took it over to the.
Speaker 3 (58:04):
Kicked it kicked the spread over the area.
Speaker 2 (58:06):
Yeah, you think some of those people that were booing
at the end of the first half may have had
a dollar or two on that probably maybe. Question and
co oh, this is the.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
Hit that live line with that live line got a.
Speaker 2 (58:17):
Little situation here. Question and comment, go mart In Flatwoods.
What is the story? Is it? The right twix versus
the left twis? I went into the one on the
left side and saw the seven foot slim gym, then
got back on seventy nine, had north to Morgantown. But
I couldn't help but think the ten foot slim gym
that Tony talks about might have been on the right
(58:38):
side gomart. Is there a preference for you, guys, which
go mart do you go to in flat Woods? The
left side one or the right side one? Well, depends
on which way you're going left, right right. I mean
that puts you into a quandary because there's two go
marts next right next to each other. One there, one there, I.
Speaker 3 (58:53):
Mean right in the geographic center of the state there
in Flatwoods. Of course, I'm I'm left.
Speaker 1 (58:58):
Which way are you going?
Speaker 3 (59:00):
The left side of our line? So I have I
run heavy left? Okay, I run heavy left when I
go there.
Speaker 1 (59:05):
I'm a left If you're going south south, I'm a
left side guy as well.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
Yeah. By the way, He ends this by saying comment,
after hearing about Russell Johnson, the author from West Virginia
that lives in North Carolina, I picked up his first
book in the Mountaineer series. Remember you'd send us those books, yes,
and it was awesome. I just finished the second and
ordered the third. Oh good book. Report. Don't know if
you know this. We'll show some pictures coming up here
from the food Russell Johnson's dad was at the food court.
(59:32):
I heard that, Yeah resently. Yeah, uh Texter Scopes, Dean
Emerediths and Senator y'all talk about REVCVS barbecue boxes and
they are excellent. But you can't be sleeping on the
three meat plates with two sides. Wowza, that is a
lot of great meat. And yes, meat koma is a
real possibility. Did so we.
Speaker 3 (59:54):
Only talked for a brief minute yesterday while you were there.
I would have talked to you sooner, but I looked
over and saw him buried in the corner, just inhaling something.
Did you go biscuit? Yeah, sold out before I got
my order in on the brisky.
Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
That was good. That was the breakfast biscuit direct the
eggs you put the egg on it. Yeah, biscuit, brisket,
pepper jack cheese with a fried egg on top of
good order, Good order.
Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
He sold out of those fast get it.
Speaker 2 (01:00:21):
He wanted my mom make more there for the pit game.
Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna get I'm gonna get me
one there. I went a little brisket and chicken.
Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
It was very good.
Speaker 1 (01:00:27):
He sold out brisket, Yes, we sold out everything.
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
I mean, he was I got wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:00:32):
I got chicken lad Yeah, I got chicken late too,
and brisket.
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
Texter is widely reported on the podcast. One game does
not make a trend, but a few observations. Is it
possible West Virginia might actually continue to defer when winning
the flip? Opening the second half with that impressive drive
was a great reset after all those fumbles in quarter two?
Is West Virginia where kickers go when they are tired
of kicking the ball all the way into the end
zone sixty five percent of the time like they have
(01:00:57):
historically done. One ball made it to the end zone
on Sat. Yeah, Texter. Having a two hundred and thirty
five pound quarterback who isn't afraid to push his face
into a fan sure does help the execution of the
tush push. Great time of the year. Love the pod,
Doug and Winfield. Now let's talk about the tush push. Yes,
how about that formation?
Speaker 1 (01:01:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
I like it? A flying saucer, I like it?
Speaker 1 (01:01:17):
Hey, right at the household yesterday, Karen Kirshavill was trying
to come up with a mountaineer West Virginia related name.
Speaker 3 (01:01:26):
Former advertising person Karen.
Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
Yes, so she's got a list of twenty I should
probably bring it in. But did you guys talk about
that that we need a mountaineer West Virginia related name
for the tush push.
Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
Mm hmm, yeah, I'm thinking something out loud with the
moth Man. Try to get the moth man. Texter, rate
my plate. This is someone that was listening to the
game out of state. Rate my plate. Hickory smoked baby
back ribs topped with a bourbon peach sauce, sauteed onions,
and beer bread made with connection.
Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
Three oh four.
Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
Tell you what I did notice this when I looked
at that picture earlier. He goes with a very wide onion.
There's a very wide cut on that onion. Those aren't
like slivered onions, those like some wide dice. Those are
not diced craft. That's a big cut and it looks fantastic.
We give me five stars, Texter. Hello Zach and Lake Tahoe. Oh,
this is a good question. Can we discuss what happened
(01:02:22):
with the weird fear catch by Robert Morris in the
first quarter? Yeah, so ball comes in fielded about two
yards into the end zone. Dude takes off, takes it up,
I think to the sixteen yard line. Penalty marker comes
down and the official say there was a signal of
(01:02:43):
a fair catch, so that's illegal touch. So the rule
is you take the ball where the fair catch was
called for. It was called for made the tea by
one of the up men, right, so the ball fielded
at the two, So it becomes a touch back because
(01:03:04):
the play is dead upon the receipt of the ball
after the signal was made. Where was the signal made.
It was made in the end zone, so it's a touchback.
So they they they enforced the rule properly. But what
they aired on was as soon as that cat started
running the ball out of the end zone, they should
have blown their whistles and said no, no, no, no, no,
(01:03:24):
the play's dead. It's out to the twenty yard line.
But they let the cat run out to the sixteen.
That's what led to the confusion.
Speaker 1 (01:03:30):
So the guy, the up guy can signal the fair cat.
Speaker 2 (01:03:33):
Anyone on the field can go like cad and.
Speaker 1 (01:03:36):
The official was standing was looking right at it, right
at it, but didn't call it right.
Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
That's what That's the only thing I think those officials
when they go through their review, they're going to go, no,
that should have been blown dead. The guy should not
be allowed to run out there after that's done. Play's dead.
Speaker 1 (01:03:52):
And on the on the fumble where they initially looked
at it and said for West Virginia said it wasn't
a fumbledinglandand against it was that was the right call
to They got that right, that was a fumble. So
how did they did they make the initial call?
Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
The initial call was it wasn't and then then they
looked at it again somewhere again you're looking at it
upstairs and they're looking at it at mission control in Texas.
So someone went like, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait wait,
actually he did fumble it. Let me get another look
at that when he fumbled, it would have benefited West
Virginia if they just kind of played on.
Speaker 1 (01:04:19):
But is there Okay, okay, I'm just thinking out loud.
Speaker 2 (01:04:24):
But I think when they go to review themselves this week,
they're gonna go like, we should have never said it
wasn't a fumble. You always go the other way.
Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
You always will fumble first, because if you blow the
play dead, the recovery of the fumble could get messed up.
Speaker 1 (01:04:40):
But if you tony, if you take a punt, if
you signal a fair catch, yes, and you take the
punt and you run, You're gonna get flayed, is that right?
Speaker 2 (01:04:47):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:04:48):
Okay, So on the kickoff, if there's it was a
legitimate fair catch, call plays dead. Oh soo the play okay,
play's dead right then?
Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
All right? Yeah, Ben in Chicago, I want to run.
I want you to run all of your text today
through AI and then tell me how many times the
word fumble is used. I would put the over under
at forty nine and a half. Eh, I didn't do it,
but yeah, pretty close. Texter, Hey hit the over on
the quarterback fellas hammered as they did Andrew in Little Rock,
(01:05:21):
Arkansas by the way of Parkersburg South. All right, so
let's reconsider a realistic now quarterback over under for the season.
Over under how many quarterbacks we will see in the
game at the same time. Two and a half is
the number on under. That's an easy one.
Speaker 1 (01:05:39):
But on this quarterback thing, that Robert Morris game, You're
not going to have a game like that again this season,
so there may be it may be hard to get
to that fourth quarterback. Okay, unless you have an injury,
it may be.
Speaker 2 (01:05:54):
Hard to get four.
Speaker 3 (01:05:55):
But that multiple are coming, multiple are coming. Okay again,
you could see it, guys, as great a game as
Nico had, Jalen Henderson's Scotti Fox brought you a little
something different. I mean, Wilkins did as well. But you're right,
it's going to be hard to get to four. But
those guys bring some different skill sets in there. Change
a pace, jump start the offense. I mean, Nico is
(01:06:16):
probably not going to be able to complete eighty eight
percent of his passes or whatever the heck that was.
So at some point you might need like a basketball team,
Tony bringing a guy off the bench.
Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
You need some shooting.
Speaker 3 (01:06:25):
You might put somebody in there that normally get somebody
in there, get something, go and eat a little spark.
I think you're gonna see guys, No, I think so too.
Speaker 2 (01:06:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
And also, if Nico's gonna run twelve times a game
or more, you're gonna get a little nick dnup.
Speaker 2 (01:06:39):
Yeah. Oh absolutely, Rich knows that. Yeah, which is why
you have multipliers ready to go. Why three guys before
the game is brought to us by the good folks
at Gomart. We'll talk more about them coming up here
in just a little bit, but we do encourage you
strongly to download the Gomart app where you immediately begin
saving on your food and your fuel. Check it out
(01:07:00):
multiple Gomarts obviously across the state. That's where we go.
And uh, it's a winner. Get that app. I mean,
it's it's really fun actually to kind of do that
thing because they just kind of send you reminders. Hey,
you go get yourself free this and got yourself free
that and start rolling up those points. Texter, here comes
a heater, he writes it, Here comes a heater. Some
may be disappointed in the fumbles, but here are the
(01:07:21):
all times that West Virginia has gone over six hundred
and twenty five yards of offense in the history of
West Virginia football.
Speaker 4 (01:07:29):
Well, so, West Virginia, when we finded our total offense
was what last night yesterday six something?
Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
Obviously, Chick, I can tell you I got it right here.
I had it right here. Total offense by West Virginia
was that was the first half. We'll get it for
you here, I'll get it anyway. Let's do this thing,
Texter says.
Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
Because you ran for nearly four bills.
Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
Right, why is this hard? Total offense West Virginia six
two five? Okay, it's only happened at West Virginia rarely.
Neil did it once, Dana eleven times. Rich did it
just one eleven times. Yeah, oh, Dana in ninety five
(01:08:21):
thousand yards in that Baylor game when it was seventy
to sixty three, Well, Dana did it eleven. Rich did
it just once. In his first stint as head coach.
Speaker 3 (01:08:30):
Two times, two times Rich one Rich one point.
Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
Did it two times. All due respect to Bob Morris,
but that's still a pretty good stat signed by Ryan
and Martinsburg. Yeah, that is significant when you get up there,
by the way, didn't Rich Tye Holgerson yesterday for wins?
Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
Second all time sixty one? Is that right, Brad?
Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
Yes, that would be his one hundred and ninety first
career victory for Rich, So he's nine away from two hundred.
Speaker 1 (01:08:57):
That's the But you know what's weird too. Of course
it's gonna be eclipsed here hopefully next week.
Speaker 2 (01:09:02):
But that Dana.
Speaker 1 (01:09:03):
Horgerson's the second winning as coach at West Virginia.
Speaker 2 (01:09:05):
That, yeah, truly is it is? It is wild. It
is wild. Hey, three guys, great day to be a mountaineer.
I started it off by taking in the food court
and having conversations with Brad and Hoppy about expectations for
the season, our family farm, Brad's glorified golf cart, also
known as a jeep wrangler. Overall, great day to be
(01:09:28):
a mountaineer, and thank you guys for all the entertainment
and great food. Signed by Matthew in Morgan Tell Yeah
via Grafton. Yeah, so there's a nice folks. They're Hoppy,
they are great. Those the two boys are twins and
they're both students at WVU. The mom and dad live
(01:09:50):
just outside of Grafton. They have a farm. They have
a couple hundred acres beef farmers and we talked a
lot of farming.
Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
The guys, they are the ones that made us our keychains.
Speaker 2 (01:10:03):
Great, thank you guys. This was the next This next one.
Speaker 1 (01:10:06):
Only one of the brothers dropped to Pete Samil and me,
good like that a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:10:12):
I cackled, by the way, yesterday afternoon when everyone in
the booth was all a flutter. Hey, Pete Samil's reporting
that Nico Markiel is going to be the starting quarterback,
and I went, oh, really, I could have told you
that three weeks ago. It's amazing. Anyway, Carson, the three guys.
(01:10:33):
Baby finally got to meet up with two of the guys.
Appreciate you guys for being so cool. Hopefully we can
get up with Brad at the next one. Also a
huge thanks to Homeless Day for arranging everything with the
meet up. Let's go mountaineers. Also, that's our son Wyatt.
He didn't mean to leave him out super excited, So
there we go, Brad. That's the baby we did that.
We did the gender reveal on and there's why at
(01:10:55):
the young fella there on the right hand side next
to Hoppy, Hoppy's hat was absolutely wearing Poe. Not very nice, Chappoe.
That little baby man baby's got more hair than Kerchieval
and it's not even close hair. So thanks very much.
It was great meeting you guys. You know what, why
don't we just do this? We took a gazillion and
four pictures at the food court this weekend. We had
(01:11:16):
some unbelievable conversations with folks. Yes, Braiden, our producer, extraordinary brain.
Let's go through that montage of picks if you could so,
for no rhyme or reason, here are some of the
pictures coming out of the food court. There's the Senator
with two Joy and Genie. Oh you knew their names, ladies.
Go ahead, you can just keep flipping through these braiden
(01:11:38):
once again. Senatorop right there for a second because I
want I want to say something about these guys. That's
Terry on the left as you're looking at it to
my right, and then Ryan, excuse me, Blake on the right.
He's stationed with the USS Wasp Navy in Roanoke. So wow,
thank you for his service. It was great, great talking
to those guys. He's in Rhode Island right now for school.
Blake is but loved catching up with those two guys.
Speaker 3 (01:11:57):
I had a great conversation to former offensive on coach
Herb Hand. Yes, Herbert Hand. I had a great conversation
with him.
Speaker 1 (01:12:04):
He's in charge bread of the entire like the mechan
the engines of a ship, the engines of a ship.
They have like five diesel engines. He gave us some
he gave him some great intel in that.
Speaker 3 (01:12:16):
That was back Bradon, Can you put that back up?
That's Gary from Pittsburgh. He was down so we enjoyed
talking to him.
Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
He got to meet him, all right. What else we
got here on the picture eight. Oh this is oh yeah,
that's a that's a stunner. Right there. There's doctor Pellegrino. Yeah,
he was there fifty. That was Friday Friday. Also, you
know who else is in that pictad?
Speaker 3 (01:12:38):
Uh my former elite five star lawn guy that entered
the transfer portal and now my lawn's horrific.
Speaker 2 (01:12:44):
Yeah. Parker.
Speaker 4 (01:12:46):
Yeah, Parker is the Morgan from Morgantown. Morgan from Morgantown. Yeah,
these guys are great.
Speaker 3 (01:12:52):
Chad Moore on the left, and that's Frank Moore on
the right, former WVU sports management graduate that has gone
on to do big boy things. He fun catching up
with him. I haven't seen Franklin a long time. He's
here in the late nineties. He is now out in
LA works for CIA.
Speaker 2 (01:13:09):
Well I've heard of that. Yeah, you heard of that.
I heard of that. I heard of that. Yeah, so
he's dropped to good line.
Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
He was talking about his his daughters just learning to
drive since and he wasn't in LA.
Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
He wasn't doing it to brag.
Speaker 3 (01:13:21):
He said, you get work on our permit going out
to get practice their practice parking or practice driving spot
the Rose Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
Probably got a few spaces. Yeah, so again, you can
kind of roll through these braiden unless these guys know
every name. Look, he's a cute little cheerleader there. Huh,
family's coming in. It was a good it's a good
deal man family fun. You see kerschievill just holding court
in his total comfort zone around people. He's really come
out of his shell thanks to the food court. By
the way, the food court presented to us by Clear
(01:13:54):
Mountain Bank, and they're absolutely fantastic. And I was going
to kind of get to this, uh a little bit.
I think we've created something as usual on this program unintentionally, Okay,
and that is braid You can kind of keep flipping.
We haven't have we talked about Have we talked about
our Buffalo wild wings thing? Yet?
Speaker 1 (01:14:15):
We have not?
Speaker 2 (01:14:16):
I don't think, so okay, keep the brain. Yeah, it's
just kind of rolled through them. Kercheval on me. Those
are those are nice people, great people there. And then
that was that was right when I was leaving yesterday
from Starbucks.
Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
Is how he identified city Every time we've been to
the Charleston Starbucks, Todds.
Speaker 2 (01:14:30):
The Charleston not gonna come night.
Speaker 3 (01:14:31):
So look at this, we're gonna be missing a picture.
Speaker 2 (01:14:35):
Well wait second, so go Mart. We just go to
the Gomart thing. That's what I was talking about, Like
on that app, like they just tell you just walk
in here and just get yourself free coffee, fountain, drink,
whatever you want, free single bag. They just get the
app and they just like it for they.
Speaker 1 (01:14:48):
Just told you.
Speaker 3 (01:14:49):
The other day when I went in to check on
the man trip stuff, I had a free drinks as
wonder God drink Jeremy at the Postal Plaza.
Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
Very nice. Yeah, yeah, well I talked about the Postal
Plaza on coming up here in just a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:15:00):
You know, you guys have you constantly accused me of
not being social, and I think I'm dispelling that. And
I was there Friday and Saturday and I thoroughly enjoy it.
I mean, the weather was perfect, there was as you know,
I'm into the vibe. Now what is the vibe? And
the vibe is just.
Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
Friendly and upbeat and happy, and it's like it's not
drunken behavior.
Speaker 1 (01:15:25):
We have beer, but it's not drunk behavior.
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
Kids around as family oriented.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
So it's just a really nice environment.
Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
I enjoyed it.
Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
Mountaineer fans are everywhere stopped by the lighthouse restaurant in Saucelito, California,
for lunch while I was on the West Coast driving tour.
Sitting at a table, probably wearing his mountaineer hat, was
Steve Degley and his wife from Tampa. A small world.
Signed by Tim's a grat of WVU nineteen seventy and three.
So we had a picture there as well. Guys out
(01:15:54):
in California. He's got his West Virginia hat on, has
a hat on there and guy comes up to him
right there, Sauce Alito. It's a nice place to visit,
I would think, sauce Alito, just north of San Francisco. Yeah,
is that what it is? Hoppying? Yeah? I believe. So
do we have that picture Brayden uh signed by Tim.
Two people, guy in a white hat West Virginia had
on the left, older gentleman on the right. I shouldn't
(01:16:15):
probably said older gentleman. There's a young guy and an
older guy. I mean I would qualify as an older
guy as well as I try to run that back
really well. Oh that so that those guys there, you know,
you don't know the story because this was Friday. So
we got We've got dad on the right, hand side
son on the left hand side. That gentleman turns eighty
(01:16:35):
years old today. Yes, that's right, that turned eighty years
old today. Brat. And you know what, like I like
shook his hand, and I could instantly tell when I
shook his hand, like the dude was like rock and
uh coal miner, Yes, yeah, former coal miner. And I said,
you work out or you do something? He said, yeah,
I walk two miles every day. And basically what I
wanted to say is this. And I told him, I said,
(01:16:58):
you know you're going to turn eight on Sunday. You
would whip Kerchival's ass right now. Wouldn't even be close.
It wouldn't close. Wouldn't be close. He could just he
was one of those guys.
Speaker 3 (01:17:05):
I'll tell you what they'll give Couril, both of those
guys in good shape for their age.
Speaker 2 (01:17:08):
I'll give him credit. Hobbi good, I mean, got your hobby.
Just rode a four hundred and six miles on a bicycle.
Speaker 3 (01:17:13):
By the way, Well, real quick, Braiden, we're gonna do
some production on the fly. If Braiden can check what
I just sent him there, can he get a couple.
Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
Of pictures up?
Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
I can't believe we missed. There's no picture of what
I just sent him. See if he can get that
up there.
Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
You're talking about your very special visitor to thee. There
we go, ohh yeah, there we go. President Benson came
to the food court. How awesome is that? Awesome? Just
rolled right over by himself, just walked across the way.
He didn't have any he didn't have any handlers, handlers,
He just walked.
Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
Over, no special transportation, just getting his steps in, just
walked over and jumped in and started working the crowd
and talking to everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:17:45):
We saw him. We all saw him Friday evening right
at an event, and you know, I spoke to him briefly,
and then I saw one of his people and I said,
wouldn't it be great if we could get him down
to the tailgate. I said, how about the pick came
and she said, you know, we'll we'll make that happen.
It's that's a busy weekend, but we'll make that happen.
And I said, he's really he's really getting out there.
(01:18:07):
And then literally hours later, Brad, he just comes rolling in,
just walking into the tailgate, hung around for about fifteen
or twenty minutes got his picture made and and you
know again you got to see how he does at
running a major, major institution. But he is doing to
me all the right things early and that is getting out,
(01:18:30):
meeting people, letting people see who he is and understanding
what it is to be a West Virginian and to
be the head of this flagship institution. I mean, he
is checking all those boxes.
Speaker 3 (01:18:42):
He You know, the episode after he was on, you
were asking about how we referred to the the administration Downtown.
I used to work in a flex Downtown. It was
just it was a catch all category, not derogatory in
any way. Just when we were have you sent the
press release Downtown for approval of this Downtown. We're going
downtown for meeting. Downtown needs to see us. Downtown's coming out,
just downtown. President Benson yesterday guys tweeted after his appearance
(01:19:05):
at the food court. He said, Downtown approves of the
three guys.
Speaker 2 (01:19:10):
So he likes personality. So he liked it.
Speaker 3 (01:19:13):
You know what, Now he didn't get to eat. He
will eat when he comes back at the at the
next one.
Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
Yeah, well here's something else. So thank you to President
Benson for coming out. So we're going to do the
food court for the pit game, and we're gonna have
live music there. We didn't have live music. We just
had streaming music this past weekend. Now do you think
maybe we get a keyboard out there and let the
president play for us, maybe a song or two, because
he's an accomplished Well, he busy, he's busy. We'll have
(01:19:40):
to see. Yeah, we'll have to see. Now. So the
thing that I the thing that I started, I first
reported on this program that we were going to do
a Thursday show this year before home games. Yes, and
it's going to be a live show. And we did
the first one at Buffalo Wild Wings.
Speaker 3 (01:19:58):
He will be back as that I was as you reported.
We were going to do Thursday before home games, is
what he reported. But what the first one was on
what night?
Speaker 2 (01:20:05):
Though? I'm sorry Wednesday? Okay, thank you. We're going to
do We're going to go forward. We're going to do
a live two hour show from six until eight on
the night before home football games. So our next one
at Buffalo Wild Wings at Suncrest Town Center. Some referred
to it as the old Orchard Bypass area. We're going
(01:20:27):
to be there before the PID game. And what I
wanted to tell you was I told a lot of
people over the weekend that are from out of state
that come in to start their weekend. I said, come
to Buffalo Wild Wings on Thursday between six and eight
and we're going to have a fun time. So we
had the event and Kerchieval did trivia and that was memorable.
(01:20:53):
And also people have been asking us and Hoppy you
know this. I didn't think a lot of people would
sign up for the Blazing Wing Challenge.
Speaker 4 (01:21:01):
You said none would? Yeah, you said none. Right, I
was baiting them. Which is a sauce which is Ghost
Scorpion and Carolina Reaper fixed together. We had four people
do the challenge. You have to eat ten of those
wings in five minutes. Four people tried it. Three successfully
eight the ten wings in five minutes, which is amazing
(01:21:25):
and con firedness.
Speaker 1 (01:21:26):
One guy had to play hurt because.
Speaker 2 (01:21:28):
One guy did it. The guy that didn't get it
done literally was trying to chomp on those wings really
fast to get started. Bit his tongue.
Speaker 3 (01:21:36):
How hot and much did that hurt? With that Carolina
Reaper seeping right into your fat? That's the finished He
had hard edge. He had a hard edge. He finished
the competition he did.
Speaker 2 (01:21:46):
Of the four, three had previously tried to do it.
The gentleman who bit his tongue had successfully done it
in the past, which shows you past success does not
indicate future success.
Speaker 3 (01:21:58):
And sometimes you don't improve. Yeah, one a week two.
Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
The one guy that John John, the first guy that
said I'm in. When he I said, do you like
hot foods? He said, when I go to an Indian restaurant,
they say how hot do you want it? And I
say to them, ruin my life.
Speaker 1 (01:22:14):
That's what he tells him.
Speaker 2 (01:22:15):
Yeah, he says, ruin my life. And he did it.
But the other guy, who had never ever even thought
about doing a contest, he crushed him. He actually he
won the contest.
Speaker 1 (01:22:26):
I talked to him afterward. I said, how do you feel?
And he said, I'm fine. He said it was hard
to breathe afterward for a while. But I said, how
did you He said, I thought I'd have a chance
because I eat really fast. That was his key was
eating fast. So Tony, the fact that because you were
you were kind of egging him on because he'd never
(01:22:46):
done it before, right, So he was a long shot,
but he was a long shot winner.
Speaker 3 (01:22:50):
Agreat very impressive. So three complete it.
Speaker 2 (01:22:53):
So what happens on the next one, Like, I think
the one guy is going to come.
Speaker 3 (01:22:59):
Back, the guy who one, Yeah, he said he's going
to defend his world championship, right.
Speaker 2 (01:23:02):
Yes, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:23:04):
And the guy who said he goes to the Indian restaurant.
I saw him too, and he said, Brad, he said
he was hurt because he had a big lunch. So
he's going to be better prepared. I think he'll come back.
Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
He wants to go again.
Speaker 1 (01:23:16):
He wants to go again, one second chance. We had
a fun time, you know, Brad, that that.
Speaker 2 (01:23:21):
Was did you say so?
Speaker 3 (01:23:22):
As the clear Mountain folks helped us with that again,
that was great.
Speaker 2 (01:23:24):
Mountain Dave and Stacy Thomas, they were there.
Speaker 1 (01:23:26):
They were there every Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:23:27):
They came to the food court, right exactly, Yeah, exactly.
It was. It was really good and uh, we had fun.
I mean, well that's kind of what this thing is.
I mean, we had our birthday, we had we had music.
Those guys the two sides. Two sides were fantastic, fantastic.
We'll have live music again.
Speaker 3 (01:23:42):
So the Thursday before the pit game six to eight,
Suncrest Town Center, Buffalo, wild.
Speaker 2 (01:23:47):
Wings, and we're going to change it a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:23:49):
What's in What are we doing?
Speaker 3 (01:23:52):
But this is the first I'm hearing of this, right,
this is unconfirmed.
Speaker 2 (01:23:56):
We're gonna we're going to change it a little bit.
I think that we're still gonna have guests. Okay, we're
still gonna have guests, but I think we need to
have more interactive stuff. So we're gonna make a change
in the trivia.
Speaker 3 (01:24:13):
That might have been the single worst thing we've ever
done was Kirschfel's trivia.
Speaker 1 (01:24:16):
Ouch.
Speaker 3 (01:24:18):
I mean hop, I'm sorry. I'm just trying to be transparent.
You just did not handle that well, and you got
one wrong.
Speaker 2 (01:24:25):
Most of the time.
Speaker 3 (01:24:26):
Leading receiver the kid answered Tavon. You yelled him and
said it was Steadman. It was actually it is Tavon.
So you had an answer wrong in addition to the
mismanagement of the questions.
Speaker 2 (01:24:36):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 1 (01:24:37):
I'll say this, it was that I need to improve.
Speaker 3 (01:24:43):
Well, maybe you improved the most from week one to
week two.
Speaker 1 (01:24:45):
I'm gonna I'm gonna work on that. I understand. I'm
gona get back to the basics, work on it.
Speaker 3 (01:24:50):
So trivia, wing eating contests, other things, and well, of course,
talk about the pit game as well.
Speaker 2 (01:24:55):
Texter says, I stopped by the Postal Plaza Gomart to
fill up with gas on Wednesday, and I so I
had free items on my app. I walked in the
store to claim my items and I thought, hey, thanks
three guys. Also, they did not have any connection three
to oh four. I was hoping to grab some for sete.
Do they usually have three oh four at that location? Efforting? Oh,
they don't have efforting.
Speaker 3 (01:25:14):
That's a smaller store in terms of cooler space. Yeah,
so we're efforting. It's one of the few go marts
that does not have connection three oh four At this time,
we're efforting.
Speaker 1 (01:25:24):
We have to get it in the Kroger too.
Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
Did you notice the historic fifth.
Speaker 3 (01:25:28):
Film marks all over? Yeah, plenty of stops for no
martes all over all, right, so go look easy to get.
Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
Did you notice the historic fifty to fifty drawing during.
Speaker 3 (01:25:36):
The game that was kind of under publicized there. We
didn't talk about that, but I did see that out there.
Speaker 2 (01:25:41):
So state legislature in this last session approved that you
could have a fifty to fifty drawing at athletic events.
So West Virginia had its first ever fifty to fifty drawing,
and they they kind of like they did kind of
hide the lead. I mean they did have a grap effect,
but it wasn't like a massive like in this historic
(01:26:03):
moment our first fifty figure, I said, fifty to fifty drive.
Speaker 4 (01:26:06):
It paid out a little under eight grand, Okay, about
seventy seven hundred dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:26:12):
The winner got that. The winner received pay out with
seventy seven hundred dollars total money, It was about fifteen.
Speaker 3 (01:26:17):
I stay at the ballpark if you walk out with ag.
Speaker 2 (01:26:20):
Yeah, exactly. So someone had texted and said, now can
you get an arms length of those tickets? And I no,
this is a digital and you buy these digitally, right,
you kind of do your car and the whole thing.
Like in the old school, you go to volunteer fight department,
you need to give them the old like give me
an arms length of tickets. Right, that's like big, like
kind of like that notion you have to make when
it comes to like a fair catch. Yeah, you do
(01:26:42):
the same thing. You do that like right there.
Speaker 1 (01:26:44):
But so did they give the fifty that the university keeps?
Did they give that to Nico? That was what we
were pushing for right.
Speaker 2 (01:26:50):
No, it goes to a budget. I mean it goes
into a pot.
Speaker 1 (01:26:53):
Well, we were pushing for a fifty to fifty and
you give it to the player.
Speaker 2 (01:26:56):
Yeah, but Brad keeps yelling at me every time I
kind of bring that up to say, like one should
do that. But I think that it's coming. It might
be coming. I don't know that you can. It might
be the one rule that's in.
Speaker 1 (01:27:06):
Place right now.
Speaker 2 (01:27:07):
All right, So if you look under NCAA.
Speaker 3 (01:27:12):
Don't do a fifty fifty to a player. I mean
it's not confirmed, but I think that's what it is.
Speaker 2 (01:27:18):
Let me ask Let me ask you guys this. So
you say, what we learned about West Virginia was they're
not going to be bad, but you don't know how good.
That's fair? What about the ruts fair? What about the
rest of the league? What about Colorado's loss to Georgia
Tech at home? Yeah, don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:27:33):
I would have liked, from a league perception standpoint, for
Baylor to be able to beat Auburn. That's a that's
a team that Hugh Freezer talking about being on the
hot seat, I would have liked to see in Colorado.
We know Colorado is in a rebuilding phase. You lost
Heisman Trophy winner, you lost Sanders would have liked them.
Each of those teams losing to visiting teams. They were
both at home and didn't protect the home field. Is
it is it a deathnet of the league. No, it's not,
(01:27:55):
but for a league that's going to need some perception
because the national media is so cec in big top
of Big ten bias. I would have liked to see
those wins come through.
Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
They just did not.
Speaker 3 (01:28:04):
In Kansas State again, those international games, man, are tough.
You go over there and lose. Kansas State is lucky
that it got out of there. It almost chunked one
up to North Dakota the other day on a tough
second game after being in Ireland.
Speaker 2 (01:28:17):
They found a way to win.
Speaker 3 (01:28:18):
So we'll see what disappointed in the Baylor performance though
on a on a big stage.
Speaker 1 (01:28:23):
Yeah, same thing. And Kansas State, that boy, they just
they narrowly got out of there with that win. I
thought that.

where you don't have to dwell on. I know this
is already turning into a telethon today, but Dylan Edwards
