Speaker 1 (00:00):
We know that the city to serve it is just
a couple of weeks away, well about.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
A week and a half.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
I guess it is Darwin's most iconic road race and
hundreds are expectable, if not thousands. We'll find out just
how many to take part in three different races including
the twelve k, the four k and the one point
six kilometers for kids. And joining us on the line
for an update on how the preparations and the registrations
(00:27):
are going. It is the CEO of Athletics here in
the Northern Territory, Lian Chin.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Good morning to you, Good morning Katie, thanks for having
me on this morning.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Lovely to have you on the show, Leanne. How are
those registration numbers looking?
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Registrations are looking fantastic. Where with eleven days to go
we've got fifteen hundred entries. We know that all of
the school's entries come in later this week, so we
really are on track for record numbers again in twenty
(01:04):
twenty four.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Awesome stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
It is a wonderful event and one which so many
people love getting involved in. Lean And I understand you've
had it officially mapped out to see just how far
it is because there's sometimes a bit of conjecture about
whether it's twelve ks, whether it's twelve point three, twelve
point five, exactly how far well.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
It's officially been measured at twelve point five kilometers. I
know that that will not dispel all of them out there,
because everybody's garment and Strava are going to measure it
differently depending on which corners you cut. But it is
officially twelve point five with a slight change to the
start line starts, a slight change to the finish line
(01:51):
to ensure that especially in the finish line. You know
there's that spend rna at the end there that really
kills the ankles after after that far so we've changed
that into a straight so can that can be fast
sprint home?
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Yeah? Right, So a little bit of a change where
so where exactly will it start and end?
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Now?
Speaker 3 (02:12):
So it will still start near the double tree hilt
in the esplanade, ye, closer to where the car park
entrance is rather than where the entrance to the hotel is,
So it's it's officially two light poles back and then
we will the finish line will be near the public
(02:34):
toilet that is at nightcliff for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, right, so I guess a bit of a straighter
finish for people.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Yes, absolutely. You know, we knew that putting that little
s bend at the end was always going to be challenging,
especially for when you know people are wanting peeps and
they just want that straight run home, and so we've
sort of listened and made that change this year.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Wonderful stuff.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
And the twelve point five kilometers isn't the only race
that you can run. You can also do the four
kse and there's the kids race, which is the mile.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Now that's right.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
So we had a new sponsor to come on board
for the mile, so MACAZV generously sponsored that, and so
we've made it a mile. Hopefully one day there in
the track we'll have we might have a night sift
mile standalone event. So that is also officially measured, and
(03:32):
the four kilometer walk or run as also officially measured
as well.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Means it's something for everybody, which I think is excellent.
But I love the kids rays too, and it does
get all of those kids involved from the different schools,
and some of those schools.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Really do sort of try to encourage their students.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
To take part absolutely gingerly standing out this year with
one hundred kids registered, so that's that's amazing. But I
anticipate we're going to have approximately five hundred kids on
the start line to run that mile. Of course, you know,
(04:11):
if parents want to run with their kids, or if
twelve and a half kilometers is too far, four kilometers
is too far and you only want to do one mile,
that's okay. Age is not a restriction. Restriction that's so
that rape Oh.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Good, oh well, that is good to hear, Leanne.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
I will be there helping you this year.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
I'm going to be MCing because the beautiful Sarah Paslik
has just had little baby Denver, so I'm going to
step in for her.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
So does that mean I'm going to like, am I
going to have to try and wrangle.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Those thousand kids that are potentially going to run?
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Yes, you will have to wrangle them onto the start line.
But you know, I'm hoping that you will be able
to g up the crowd and of course maybe a
little bit of heckling of those people that you know.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Well, I will know a lot of people, you know,
I love my running. I will know a lot of people.
So I did wonder is it am I allowed to
jog next to them and interview them at the same time.
Do you think they'd appreciate that at the end of
their twelve point five kse Well.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Look, I'm not sure whether they will appreciate that. Fortunately,
we won't be online radio, so you know, the expleted
words may not be heard by people.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
I'll try to be kind. I'll try to be kind
to people. I'll wait till they cross the line and
then interview them.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Definitely, that sounds like a plan.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yeah, well, it's going to be a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
It's a fantastic event, and I know that there's so
many people keen to get involved, so wonderful stuff.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Leam.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Let's see just how many people do take part in
the city to serve for this year? Where can they
go if they haven't registered yet?
Speaker 3 (05:54):
So online registrations are via our website, Ntcity, serf EU
and regiros will be open until three pm on SAT.
Day afternoon, so you'll be able to if you come
down to the Double Tree Hilton Esplanade for race pack
pickup and you haven't registered. In the past we've had
(06:17):
to do pay per forms. It's time consuming on my
have you this year. We're going to have regios still
open so you can wait in line for your BIB,
do your registration and pick up everything on the spot.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Oh good stuff. That is nice and easy for people.
Lian Chin, it is lovely to catch up with you
this morning. We will see you at the city to
serve in eleven.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Days, no worries.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Thanks so much for having me on Katie.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Thank you
