Speaker 1 (00:00):
Very pleased to say that. Joining me in the studio
right now is the well the co founder of Sabrina's
Reach for Life, Lydia de Lembo. Good morning to you, Lydia.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Good morning to you and your listeners.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Lovely to have you in this studio.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
And we've also got Jason, one of the organizers of
the Red Dress run with the Hash House.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Harry Is.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Good morning to you, Jason. Let me make sure I've
got the correct microphone on there. Let's try that again.
Good morning, Jason, Good morning Katie.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Is lovely to have.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
You both in this studio because there is a fantastic
event that's getting underway.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Is it today or tomorrow?

Speaker 4 (00:35):
Officially it starts on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Saturday, there was another day off that.

Speaker 4 (00:39):
These are the events that are just leading up to
the big day.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
It sounds like there's a lot happening, and it sounds
like the Hash House Harriers are a very fun running
group to get involved in.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Firstly, tell me about them.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
Well, Katie, it's a group of people who like minded people.
We have a bit of a job or a walk
and then we have some food afterwards, a social chat,
you know, maybe a cold beverage it's just a good atmosphere.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I've seen them go past my place and they seem
to be having a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Of fun, having a really fun chat while they're running,
and I thought, wow, I must be running too hard
because I can't talk that much.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
While I'm jogging.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
Yeah, we do have some fun.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Now, the Red Dress Run is getting underway. The money
that's being raised is going to go towards Sabrina's Reach
for Life now, Lydia, you and I have spoken on
numerous occasions about about Sabrina's Reach for Life and the
phenomenal work that you do. How important is it that
an event like this one does help to raise funds?

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yes, Katie, Well, it's fantastic on a few fronts because
we're actually not organizing the event this time, and it
does take a lot of effort. And you know, I
really want to thank Greg and Cheryl who are in
charge of the Red Restaurant Committee, and Jason's on that
committee as well, So they've chosen our local charity and
they have raised fun for us previously as well. And

(02:03):
it's important because it's creating an awareness with the connection
of raising funds for Sabrina's Reach and as you know,
and we've spoken before. We are focused on systemic advocacy
and providing support for people who suffer from mental distress
or suicidal ideations or being bereaved by suicide. And we

(02:29):
recently actually won an award. I was in Campbell last
week and we won a life award for the work
that we do in the territory. We were the only recipients.
So it does mean a lot. Any funds raised go
towards our course. But more importantly, something tangible it will
go towards is supporting the scholarship that we fund at

(02:53):
Charles Dalen University. So I'm interviewing people tomorrow for our
third sort of iteration of the scholarship that will support
a student studying psychology at Charles Dale University.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
So very very excited about that.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
It is wonderful and you know what that awards so
very deserving. The work that you have done is incredible
and I say that every time that you come in.
But you should be so proud of the work that
you do and the work that you've done in Sabrina's name.
I think it's a phenomenal thing. Now this red dress
run Lydia, You've got your red dress on Now you're

(03:28):
ready to go.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
That's made us a role with Sabrina's loyo on it,
which is fantastic. So I understand that all the people,
the four hundred people running or walking at four o'clock
today from the priesting down to the ski club will
be wearing the sarong in some shape or form.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Goodness, mate, who knows how they're going to be wearing.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
Jason, So it's pretty appropriate.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
It really is. Now tell us because there's going to
be people thinking.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
What do you mean a red dress run house is
all going to work? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (04:05):
Well it's women blokes. We all dress up in a
red dress and go from one place to another. Yeah,
and have a jog or a laugh chat. There's going
to be about four hundred of us, so it's pretty
pretty substantial amount.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Of it is.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Yeah, it's a huge number of people. Now sneakers or heels.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
For me personally, it'll be definitely sneakers because I've got
the big run to do on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
So there's all these other events kind of leading up
to Saturday's run. So talk us through exactly what happens
on Saturday.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Then, yeah, well Saturday, it's a whole lot of different
runs and walks now you can go on so depending
on your ability. There's some short walks for people who
are getting on in years, and then there's all the
way there's a four k and eight k at twelve k,
and then there's also the ball Breaker run, which is

(04:58):
potentially you know, up to twenty five kilometers and it'll
be taking in all the scenic sights of Darwin and
I'm sure every hill in Darwin.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
I definitely couldn't wear my heels for that.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
I'm training for a marathon right now and I've hardly
got toenails left, so.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
That would be more than a ball breaker.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
I just reckon. This is awesome.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
I think it sounds like it's a phenomenal event. People
coming from all over.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
The world, all over the world, yep, yep. So this
is our national event. It's held every couple of years
and because COVID, we didn't have one a few years back,
so it's been a while and we attract people from
all over the world, like minded harriers. It's just such
a good event.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
And it is a cause that's dear to the hearts
of the harriers here.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
In Darwin as well. Isn't it.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Yeah, Yeah, we've lost a couple of members over the years.
You know. It's so it's just our way of getting
getting involved in a cause. You know, it's it's such
a good worthwhile cause they do some great work. We're
just happy to be associated with Sabrinas absolutely.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
How much money do you reckon you guys will raise?

Speaker 4 (06:09):
Well, we were aiming at around about fifteen thousand Wow dollars,
but the registrations have gone up since we sort of
made that prediction, so hopefully it's a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
How wonderful.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
You know. How much does that kind of money mean
to Sabrina's reach for life?

Speaker 3 (06:25):
Lidia, it means a lot.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
So just the scholarship alone, it's a five thousand dollar
commitment on our part for a student each year. So
if it is fifteen, but I'm pretty sure it's going
to be more than that. That's going to help us
fund a student for three years wow, who is studying psychology.
And the aim is, you know, it's our way of

(06:49):
giving back to community to have more people, professional people
that can be accessible for people who are in distress
and need support and professional help. So it's just a
small way of us contributing in that way.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
It is a really wonderful thing to do.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Now, if there is anybody out there listening this morning
that he is going through a tough time, I know
that there are a few different different places that they
can go to to get that support. But they can
certainly go to Sabrina's Reach for Life website as well,
can't they?

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Yes, they can, And you know, we're not a crisis
sort of service, but yeah, Lifeline or Beyond Blue are
the usual numbers that people should should call. Yeah, but yeah,
if anyone wants to have a chat, We're more than available, yeah,
to have a chat to people if they wish to
do so. But I just want to give another plug too.

(07:45):
There's a lot of local businesses that are actually supporting
this event today as well, too many to name, I think, jasonoluately.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Look, we've had a massive amount of support from local businesses,
you know, One Mile Brewery, the Ski Club, Precinct, Tavern,
tim Sir and Turf Lizards. You know, even down to
you FRM Refrigeration donating the use of cold rooms for
our event. Good on it. It's just been fantastic. The
community support for the event has been fantastic.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
How wonderful. Well, it is great to have you both
in the studio.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
All the very best. Don't hurt yourself running in those heels.
If anyone that's taking parts running in their heels. I
don't think I've run in heels since I was about
eighteen years old. I don't think I can hardly walk
in them now. It is lovely to have you both
in the studio. I really appreciate your time and I
hope it goes off without a hitch.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
Thank you, Thanks sure much
