Funny enough, rarely happens that we were half an hour earlier.
I looked at Sydney Grammar. I looked in front of
me and St Mary's Cathedral was there. So I said,
you know what, we've got half an hour? I said, come,
I want to show you something.

Speaker 6 (10:58):
Dad walked in.

Speaker 5 (11:01):
I said, Anthony, look I look at this building. Hecause
it's beautiful. I said, Dad, let me tell you they
built this in honor of God. So I was walking
out and there was a statue of Saint Anthony of
Padowa and I looked at it. I said, Anthony, you
know who that guy is? Again now, I said, that's

(11:22):
Saint Anthony of Padowa. I named you after him. And
he was very happy.

Speaker 6 (11:26):
And then he looked at me that.

Speaker 5 (11:27):

wanted to go to Iceland.

Speaker 6 (12:57):
At around seven thirty seven of the children got Danny's
permission to walk to the local shop a couple of
kilometers away.

Speaker 5 (13:05):
It was a hot day. I thought, wow, these young
kids the age of eight p thirteen, they're old enough
to do a walk together. There was a little bit
of freedom. I thought, you know what, I let them
go for that walk.

Speaker 9 (13:17):
The one who walked for ten minutes.

Speaker 5 (13:19):
Not even ten minutes, fifteen minutes.

Speaker 6 (13:21):
Yeah, this was pure innocence. This was a hot Australian
summer day and kids going to get an ice cream.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
That's all it was. And it just turned into something
just was It was sunlight and as soon as that happened,
it just became dark.

He ended up made were driving in the streets around
Oakland's in Sydney's Northwest. Police alleged Davidson was speeding at
over one hundred kilometers an hour in a fifty kilometer zone.

A car just came out of floor air and he
made four four of my best friends.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Although I car just.

Speaker 10 (14:20):
Came and hit us from the back. I just felt
this big dash of wind. But when I got up,
the car was running over the bike. So I still
saw the car still driving on the footpath and like.

Speaker 4 (14:31):
The bike just popped because he was on the bike.

Speaker 10 (14:38):
Char Bell, the passenger, he came down to me and
he was like to me, I'm so sorry, and he
was hitting his face. I was like, I tried to
see if Angina was breathing. She wasn't arranch it. All
the bodies, they were all they they weren't breathing. Even
he wasn't breathing.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
I went up to him.

Speaker 10 (15:02):
I was like, Shabelle, please wake up Sienna. I couldn't
see her because she was inside the fence with the
head down, and I didn't want to go up to her.
And Ernie was at the hardest one to go.

Speaker 5 (15:13):
To because she was over the fence.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
When did you first learn that something had gone wrong?
That afternoon, I was in.

Speaker 8 (15:24):
The house then Number called my phone straight away.

Speaker 10 (15:29):
As soon as I got up, I told everyone to
call the ambulance. I called my mom and told her
to come and.

Speaker 8 (15:38):
She told me come come now. So I started screaming,
what happened. She told me, I don't know, Angelina can't breathe.
And then I saw Danny.

Speaker 7 (15:46):
I told him, Danny, Danny, I don't know what happened.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
Chomping the car.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
Quickly, I saw her sister run out, screaming, something's happened.
I'm thinking, man Anthony Schabel to the two boys, I
can't believe that they ran across the road. I can't
believe they've done something stupid. That's what I was thinking,
and Daddy, I took off.

Speaker 9 (16:10):
I took off, but then seconds hours behind them. It
was the accidents. It's only one street away from my house.

Speaker 5 (16:22):
As soon as I got there, it was an eerie feeling.
It's like I was in a war zone. I remember
one block came up to me screaming, mate, we're gonna
let these parents. We gotta tell these parents. We want
to tell these parents. I looked at him and I said,
these are my kids, and he was like, he sort

(16:43):
of fell back. He didn't know what to say. I
saw them.

Speaker 4 (16:53):
I went up to each one.

Speaker 5 (16:56):
I knew they were gone.

Speaker 9 (17:05):
What I saw I saw a Jelena Siena, a Veronic
and I was in chuck that. Leanda quickly read to
me she was bleeding, and she goes, mom, I'm so
scared that she hugged me.

Speaker 5 (17:21):
I got Blaida. I said, go to the ambulance. Now
go focus on Leanna.

Speaker 9 (17:26):
We've got Leana.

Speaker 5 (17:28):
You know I tried to do mouth to mouth with Anthony.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
It didn't work. So you did try to revive your son, Yeah,
it didn't work.

Speaker 5 (17:37):
I saw Angelina.

Speaker 7 (17:40):
She was gone.

Speaker 5 (17:41):
Sienna wasn't good at all, and Veronic wasn't good. Then
the police came. I got sort of pushed away, pushed away,
pushed away. I just put the tape crime scene. I
looked like that, I said, just each child getting covered.

(18:06):
I went to the hospital. Leanna's there. Where's my brother
and sisters? I said, they're next door, No worry, they'll
be fine. Okay, you had to say that. I had
to say that.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
And then.

Speaker 5 (18:22):
What happened after that? The nurse said, mate, done, Lord
to your kid. She's still gonna trust her.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
She's right.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
I never know her.

Speaker 4 (18:31):
I came up to her.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
I said, Leana, Anthony, Angeline, and Sienna they have gone
to be with God. She has named by name Anthony.
I said, yes, she has Angelina. She starts crying. I said, yes,
she has not seen. I said yes, I'm sorry. I can't.
I can't do anything about it. And she she goes,

(18:57):
I don't want to be the oldest in the family.
That was the hardest thing to do. It's probably the
hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
To say that to your daughter. You would have been
well forgiven for falling in an absolute heap on that
spot right there and not got up.

Speaker 5 (19:16):
When you're a dad, you can't.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
You got to step up. You look after your family.

Speaker 5 (19:24):
Even though you've lost half your family, you still don't
want to lose all your family, half your family.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
In one go and far too young.

Speaker 5 (19:33):
I had a link of an eye in the blink
