(00:32):
All right, hello and welcome back to Something About the Ice.
We have kind of a different episode for you today.
It's just going to be a little bit of a check in and I'm here
with my group as usual for our very own behind the scenes
podcast. So a big hello to podcast Trent,
Shumway, Kyle and Brian. So glad we're here guys.
Thank you, glad to be here. So just a little a little update
(00:54):
for our friends and for our listeners.
We are still working to get scheduled that very special
episode that Brian posted on oursocials, and that's going to be
with Miss Amy Brummett, who is apretty fantastic and very
exciting person. I don't want to give too much
away, but I am going to read just a little bit of her bio so
that our listeners know what's coming.
And we're working to find a perfect time that we can all
(01:17):
record, and we'll get that to you at a later date.
But Miss Brummett is an explorer, a scholar, an artist,
an educator, A conservationist, A mariner, and an adventurer, so
she's pretty busy. She has journeyed to more than
100 countries across the globe and worked in some of the most
challenging and beautiful placeson Earth.
(01:37):
She's collaborated with renownedorganizations including National
Geographic, Habitat for Humanity, and the Royal Academy
of Dramatic Arts. But that actually only scratches
the surface. When we have time with Miss
Brummett, she's going to share alittle bit about all of those
things that she's done, all of the places she's been, but the
one that we are most excited about was her time on the ice.
(01:58):
She spent multiple seasons living and working at every US
Antarctic Research Station, McMurdo, Palmer, and of course,
the Munson Scott South Pole Station.
We can't wait to talk to Miss Brummett.
We can't wait to ask her, your listening listener questions,
but for today, just a little bitof chitchat with us.
And as always, thanks for listening and supporting the
(02:19):
show. Yes.
Thank you everyone. So gentlemen, have you guys
started putting your questions together for when we do get to
talk to Amy? I submitted mine.
I did see yours, Brian. I so we, we got, we got some
good questions from, from the listeners and I wanted to make
(02:39):
sure because I, I have a ton of questions, but I don't want to
dominate, you know, I don't wantthis to be the Brian and, you
know, Amy Brummett episode. So I was like, if I had one
question, here's the one question.
So I, I didn't submit that and Iget it in.
But yeah, let's, I just want to,I want to give everyone a heads
up. So today was supposed to be the
day. It is September 26th.
(03:02):
We're currently recording and, and my, my, my hat is off to,
to, you know, podcast Trent Shumway and Kyle.
They are on the West Coast. They got their, their, their,
their cells up at 7:00 in the morning, which is earlier than I
like to have my, my, you know, voice actors come in.
But they, they made that sacrifice.
Amy, we're hoping everything is fine.
(03:24):
She is, she is remote international, so the
connections might be an issue. But you know, with that said, we
are looking very forward to it. I was hoping it was going to be
today, but it will be, it will be hopefully within the next
couple of weeks. I've I've talked enough.
Let me let other people. Talk well, we've run into some
technical difficulties, but it, it doesn't mean it doesn't mean
(03:48):
it won't happen in the future. And, and to be completely
honest, no, with a resume like that, I have to be completely
honest. I, I can't come up with a
question for this one. I'm literally just going to rely
on instincts and hopefully, you know, be able to, to volley back
and forth a little bit. But I'm fascinated to hear her
story. I mean, yeah.
(04:10):
What, what Aaron just rattled off.
It's like that sounds like 3 lifetimes.
I know right? Like it should be 7 different
people did all of. That, yeah, this kid who barely
has a high school education is not going to be asking any brain
Busters that she can't just go. I yes, I wear pants and skirts.
Trent, thank you for asking. It's good to know it's cold out
(04:30):
there. Brian, I think we should, we
should only ever record 7:00 AM for our West Coast friends
because Kyle is almost being nice to me today and I just want
to capitalize on that and keep the momentum.
You know, we got about, we got about T -, 15 before I can start
rattling off. With one liner so if.
You want if you want to keep getting it in there, and you
(04:50):
can. That's where the Folgers kicks
in. Yeah, dude, I don't even touch
the Folgers. Yeah, I stayed up all night for
this. What are you talking about?
7:00 AM. I'm going to wake up at 7:00 AM.
I just went to bed at six. My poor West Coast friends.
Yeah, we'll be right. Don't make it work.
I am, I am beyond excited, you know, for for coming up on five
(05:12):
years now, we have only, you know, fantasized and, you know,
played pretend in a setting thatshe is actually, you know, boots
on the ground. She has.
Walked those halls, lived in, ate that food, you know, walked
those hovels, you know, it just I cannot wait to actually hear
(05:33):
someone who hasn't been there. I can just tell us, you know
what what what does not convey over YouTube or videos or a
description that you read onlineor in a book.
How did you find her, Brian? Like how did you guys get
connected so that we could even set this up?
Every so often I'll just go on to the aforementioned YouTube.
(05:53):
Never read it, Kyle, and just, you know, look for, you know,
I'll, I'll sometimes rewatch tours that I've watched before.
And then every so often a new person will come, you know,
showing a lot of the same stuff I've seen before.
But once I saw, you know, Amy, her videos were I'd say more
snip. It's there about 30 seconds
each. But she was, you know, showing,
(06:15):
you know, the the iPod. She was showing OPS.
She was showing, you know, the, the science labs and I said,
hey, you know, this is a new, new person she had, I think she
hasn't been down there for few years, but let me just, I'm
going to reach out like I, I will occasionally do with
others. And, you know, sure enough, I
didn't think that she was going to respond because no one else
(06:36):
has. But sure enough, she's like,
hey, you know what? I'm, yeah, I'd be, I'd be happy.
Just how did you find me? I'm like, oh, well, if you go,
you know, here's your YouTube. And then if you just put in
amybrummett.com took me right toyour website.
So I'd love to say that I'm a I'm an incredible investigative
sleuth, but no, I just I kind ofA to BI can't.
(06:58):
Wait to hear. Oh, go ahead, Kyle.
Oh no, no, no, please. I was just going to say I can't
wait to hear like how she got started and then how all of
these different things that she's done have connected.
Like what that you know what I mean?
I don't know what the turn is like, not journey line, but like
you go on one adventure and it leads to another adventure which
is in a totally different direction.
It's just it's such a variation of things that she's done and
(07:22):
then to like spend time on the ice is a very random thing.
It's super cool, but I don't think there's a lot of people in
the world that have done that. Well, and there's still this.
How? Like, how do those dots connect?
Yeah. It's like you go from like Royal
Shakespeare Academy, right? You know, like Congo.
It's like, are you just throwinga dart at the map?
What are you doing? Like, how do you, how do you get
(07:42):
to there? That's fascinating.
I love it. Really is.
Can we just start calling her Carmen San Diego, I mean.
Do you know how many Carmen San Diego references?
Let's say we got a theme song booted up and ready.
For her, where in the world is? It Carmen San Diego.
Did we talk about Carmen San Diego the last time we recorded
too? I feel like I've had a lot of
(08:02):
conversations about Carmen San Diego lately.
I don't remember, no. Maybe it was somebody at work.
I do call a friend of mine at work that because every time I
talk to him, he's like, oh, I'm in New Zealand, but I'll be back
in the office next week. I'm like, we don't, we don't go
to New Zealand. What are you doing out there?
If memory serves, I think she's also been to the Arctic, not
(08:23):
just the Antarctic as well. I mean I.
Think she I was on her TikTok this morning.
I think she might have been there fairly recently because it
looked like that was one of her unless it was a promoted video.
I did just a quick scan. You know what do you want me to
drop her specials in now? Yes.
Yeah, would you? Yeah, for sure.
That'd be great. I would do it right now, but
then you'll hear the background in the recording, so I'll do it
(08:45):
right after we get finished. Perfect.
Perfect. Brian, do you want me to drop
her socials here now? I mean, we'll promote it again
when we get to talk to her, but for any of our listeners that
want to kind of do their research before.
So I do encourage you to follow her socials.
I followed a few of them this morning and she's just very
cool. So her Instagram is Brummett
roams on Facebook. It's Amy Brummett.
(09:10):
And that's Amy. Amy Tick Tock is at AJ Brum a
JBRUM. She's on
substack@amybrummett.substack.comand on YouTube at Amy Brummett.
And she also noted in some of the correspondence that you can
find all of these on her website, which is Amy
brummett.com. That's AM YBRUMMI t.com.
(09:34):
So any of our listeners, I do encourage you to check her
information out and we'll promote that when we get a
chance to talk with her as well.I'll put it in the show notes as
well for the podcast when it drops because yeah, she didn't
specifically request that, so happy to do it.
Yeah, very, very cool. Simon at Myspace as well.
I want to see who's in the top 8.
I mean, do you ever completely jumping sideways, but do you
(09:57):
ever think about how pathologic it was that we had an entire era
where we ranked our friends publicly?
I still do it. I would love to do.
That I've never got. I've never gotten away from it.
Yeah, also with your phone. Do you remember, like the phone
plans you could have like your favorite 5 that you could talk
to for free, but you had to pay to talk to everybody else?
(10:17):
Oh, man, imagine you're mad at your partner and you drop them
out of your top five. You're like, I can't answer the
text because it's going to cost us money.
I'd love to continue this conversation, but yeah, you're,
you're hovering around #7 right now.
Well. I'm on a very fixed budget.
And it ain't looking great. Yeah.
Moving down to 10. All right, so we are, we are
(10:40):
close to one of our favorite seasons real quick.
Like, how does everyone like to celebrate the spooky season?
Aaron, you had before we fired off the recording, you were just
telling us about a family excursion that you just did with
your kids, which sounds amazing.I'm kind of jealous.
If you wouldn't mind sharing that with the listeners and then
(11:00):
tell us how you do like to spendyour spooky time.
Perfect. Yeah.
And great question too. Yes, my husband and I took the
kids yesterday to this like immersive Halloween experience.
And so my my son is only 5 so wedon't do like scary scary stuff.
For him, it was more spooky. I can hear my I can hear
feedback on myself. Sorry.
(11:21):
Well. It's because it's spooky time.
Because it's spooky. It's actually the ghost in my
recording equipment. Please turn down her snare.
Please. It was.
It was fun though, because it was kind of like an escape room,
but not really. You didn't actually have to
solve clues. You just kind of wandered room
to room and it was a lot of likeholograms, but there was no like
jumping out, which would have terrified my kid.
(11:42):
That was super fun. I do like Halloween, but my kids
are young enough that we don't do a lot of scary stuff.
I think my daughter being in middle school this year, I could
convince her to watch a scarier movie or go to like a haunted
house or something. But we do more like autumn,
really. I mean, I love Halloween, but
more autumn. Stuff, I think, yeah, yeah.
(12:03):
Family Family friendly over. Here, family friendly's great,
yeah. What about you guys?
As a kid, like we, because I grew up in the in in the middle
of nowhere, there was there was no trick or treating, but our
school always had a carnival. And man, you look forward to
that thing the whole year because it was you still got
dressed up, you still got see all your buddies.
There's still this candy, but yeah, the family friendly stuff
like they had like me being a gigantic horror fan that I am,
(12:26):
and I love haunted houses and all that stuff.
But as a child, like, there wasn't that much horror films
other than the classic ones on because my parents were pretty
conscious of, like, man, we shouldn't probably watch Texas
Chainsaw Massacre around him. But as I got older, I recognized
like, yeah, there always was a haunted house at our carnival.
I never went as a kid because, Oh yeah, I was terrified.
(12:50):
Oh my God, I loved it as a kid. I love it now because I've never
grown up but and and my kids noware just getting that point.
Like both of my daughters are big horror fans, but don't want
to do the spooky stuff my son this year wants to do with his
friends. Like a either a Halloween Horror
Nights or there's, there's a little big, big one near us in
(13:11):
Thousand Oaks that I'm going to try to take them to because
it's, it's like this really longmaze and it just theme after
theme after theme. And it's just like one line you
stand in and you do 40 minutes. I think through this whole thing
and it's like, that's the best bang for your holiday buck in my
opinion. But I, yeah, I love, love going
to all the spirits, love going to all the different little, you
(13:31):
know, Halloween horror night things and, and, or the stuff
that there's a place in Burbank.Actually, there's a whole block
on Burbank on Blvd. that has like stuff that's up all year
round. But during the holiday season,
of course, it's even more plentiful and it's cool.
But yeah, it's where. It's where we went, right?
Exactly. You took me there.
Well, Halloween. Yeah, Mystic Museum, all that.
(13:53):
Mystic Museum. The Halloween Halloween.
Town, yeah. 24 down. To 24/7, but yeah, 356 oh, just
just every day of the year. There is a there is a gym on
that block that is horror themed.
Now. I'm sure it's going to be short
lived. Get your all jumps horror
themed. Exactly.
Yeah. That's that is a.
(14:14):
Horror location. Yeah, no, they work out with
like mock chainsaws and like bones and stuff.
And again I'm. Sure, the next reunion needs to
be over there, right? Yeah.
Yeah, for sure. What about you, Kyle?
You know, we, we try to jam in as much like Halloween movies as
we can. It starts my busy season,
(14:37):
generally October. So yeah, usually I only have
like evenings. Excuse me, got 5 minutes, Aaron
got 5. Minutes, Aaron.
We got a hurry. We got a hurry.
We got a roll off. Well, A.
Little room, in fact. You know, Kyle, people don't
know this, but but for Kyle's work, he actually runs drugs.
He's a narcos from, you know, Venezuela and Colombia to the US
(15:00):
So I think you're going to actually have a lot of time.
You're not taking a boat this week are you buddy?
Don't take a boat. No, no, no, no, no, no.
You know, it's like that little, the little plane like the
American made on Tom Cruise. That's Oh, yes.
Yes. Oh, yeah.
That's good. You're good.
So yeah. Kyles gonna have 50 people
outside this house in the next hour.
I. Thought you're gonna be like 50
(15:21):
people on Instagram being like, hey, where's the hookup?
Yeah. I mean, that's also.
Possible. Can I get a family discount?
But yeah, we try to watch as much Halloween content as
possible. In fact, literally just last
night we watched the the whole family minus minus my little guy
who doesn't like the scary stuff, yet we watched the the
1st chapter of it. Oh yeah, yeah.
(15:45):
We don't really believe togetherit.
I'm with you. I'm with you.
There are moments that are very, very cool, but.
Yeah, and maybe it's. Yeah, maybe it's a nostalgia
talking, but it yeah, nothing holds a candle to that to.
The original, yeah. Yeah.
And then Madison was awesome forsure.
And Madison was like, this was on ABC in 1990.
(16:07):
Yeah, like broadcast like different nights.
She's like, let's do it like that.
Like let's watch 1/2 this night,1/2 next night.
So we got we got 2 coming up forus, the second part of it coming
up for us. But yeah, it's all, it's all
about the content. I I love the the original King
movies that were put out on ABC,The Stand with Rob Lowe.
(16:29):
Rob Lowe? Yeah, it was yeah.
Gary Sinise. Thank you.
The guy that played the the. Starfish Guy.
Yeah, Pat. Yeah, Dauber, I think and not
not connected to our dauber. What was Rose Red?
Loved Rose Red, those are alwaysgreat.
Which is supposed to be a Spielberg Stephen King
collaboration. It just didn't work out.
(16:52):
Yeah, I think, I think you did tell me that I saw the now it's
HBO, not ABC, but Welcome to Dairy is coming out.
Next couple weeks. But it's it's with the the other
it so. And it.
Looks so it looks so good and then they it looks pretty anyway
and I'm like, huh, yeah, well. I, I mean, I get it.
It's like, you know, the stuff that we grew up with,
(17:14):
Frankenstein, the Wolfman, you know, Dracula, they all
essentially are disposed of at the beginning or the end of each
of those films. And yet Universal's like, well,
it made, there's a lot of money. You guys figure out a way to
bring them back. So I can't fault them for that.
Horrors always kind of been thatway where it's like, look, you
know, the kid died, We had him in the lake, but he's coming
(17:34):
back because we got some movies to pump out here every summer.
That's how it works. That's how it works and.
Dollar, dollar bills. Exactly.
We we just like daughters. I just went and saw the long
walk yesterday and they had a, atrailer for yeah, it's very
good. It's excellent.
It's it's not the feel good movie that that you're looking
for, not the Family Fare you want, you want to bring the
(17:56):
whole bird too. But no, of course there was a, a
trailer for black phone too, which I I hadn't seen the first
one. And my, my daughter is just
going, they're bringing them back.
I'm like, yeah, when don't they bring them back?
But not everything needs a sequel.
You know, agreed. Totally agreed.
I love the art form of letting something stand on its own and
not touching it. Like if they ever made a it's
(18:17):
they won't because it's been toolong, but if they ever made a
sequel to The Princess Bride, I'm not saying it.
My favorite movie of all time. I will say this, the only redo
of The Princess Bride that I will accept and I will not go to
war is if they do it with Muppets.
If they do it with Muppets, I amthere.
I don't know how I feel about that, but I'm not gonna.
Fight you all even then even. Then I don't know.
(18:39):
No, it was a perfect film. It was a Oh, it is.
Absolutely. It still is.
Yeah, and I've I've seen like the cast redo, like during COVID
they had a couple. Yeah, I'm sure you probably saw
it too. And then we I saw a certain
senator just ruin that movie as he's quoting it.
Oh. My God.
Got up. Certain things should be sacred.
Certain things you sacred and I love the cast rallied against
(19:02):
him after the fact was like, dude, you got no love here.
That's right. I don't know though there was a
there was a Muppet Haunted Mansion.
That was that I couldn't wait. Yeah, just.
So so it. Didn't do it.
Didn't do homage to to properly to the original.
It was, it was just kind of it's, I mean on paper it totally
(19:26):
works. And then you see it and you go.
Just just. Better in thought than
execution, yes. OK, let me let me ask this.
You're all big horror fans, but what about ghosts?
Like ghosts? Like true ghost stories?
Are you ghost people or not ghost people?
Love them. Me too.
Here, here for it spook me out. I've had an.
Experience or two? OK.
(19:47):
Can you share or you don't want to?
I'll share if you want. Yeah, go on, We're scraping for
content here. We're.
Scraped for content. OK, I have a friend who has a
haunted condominium I found that's.
The most LA thing I've ever heard in my life.
I found this out the hard way was we were working on a short
(20:10):
film and then we worked on a feature film together.
And as I was there, there would be like some certain things
happening and he'd be like, justjust don't worry about it, dude.
Because I'm like, hey, what's going on with that?
And he's just like, don't worry about it, Just don't worry about
it. And so eventually it's like, you
know, no, seriously, what is this?
And he's like, look, if I tell you this, you're going to be,
you know, either you're going tothink I'm nuts.
But yeah, I got AI kind of got aroommate, if you know what I
(20:32):
mean. And so sure enough, like he was
on he it's a it's a townhouse actually.
So two stories. His parents live right next to
him. And, and then he was on the end
and there is, there's distance between his lot and the next,
like a house or something, whichwas probably there was an acre
(20:54):
between them. The reason I bring this up is at
one point I am going over to hisplace.
He, both he and his parents are on a vacation.
So I just go over, check the mail, make sure everything's
cool, you know, and then and just kind of make sure
everything's locked up and everything and then and then
leave. One night I decide to just eat
because I'm working late. I'll just eat my food there.
And take off after the fact. So there's nobody in his parents
(21:18):
place because I just checked. There's nobody in his place
because I just checked. And I start to eat my food
there. And then his roommate decides
now's a good time for you to leave because I don't want you
here anymore and starts making noises from upstairs and below.
And I'm just like. And I froze there for a second.
I could hear the sliding doors that he had in his bedroom just
(21:40):
going back and forth on my cabinet slamming and stuff.
So I leave toot suite, you know, lock the place as and as I'm
running around. I had to go behind the thing to
get to the parking lot to get into my car.
I can hear through his bedroom window as I pass by it.
It's still having problem with me.
I get in my car and realize I forgot to lock his door.
(22:00):
I run back up, lock it like throw the mail in there, call my
wife and and be like, look, I just experienced this thing and
it's it's insane. She's like, I want to see this.
So the next the next morning we have to we're going to my
parents place to visit them. So we're going to stop by his
spot, pick up the mail and everything.
(22:23):
And as soon as I open the door, she makes a beeline through the
house and I'm and I hear her go Oh my God, and I'm expecting to
walk around and see like a disembodied head floating there
as my wife. She's going through his kitchen
going isn't there any plates, isn't any glasses.
There's nothing in this fridge. Who lives like this?
I'm like. Different kind of haunting.
(22:44):
He's like, where's the ghost? I'm like, well, I mean,
considering you're chastising his his homemaking, I think they
probably left. It's like Jesus that's.
Amazing. Yeah, I love that so much.
How about you, Kyle? Any spooky encounters?
You know, I think, I think the, the apartment that I came from
(23:05):
in Sherman Oaks before we moved during the pandemic, I think it
had a, a haunt or two in there and the one you had.
The party and everything. Oh yeah, dude, there, there.
So there is multiple people, multiple, you know, we used to
pack that, you know, it was a shoebox at best.
And we'd pack in, you know, 15 people for game nights and all
that stuff. And you'd just have random
people, you know, a week later be like, man, I got this weird
(23:27):
feeling. I'm like, yeah, it's weird.
There's a, there's this little hallway that like again, a
shoebox, it LED from like the living room to the one bathroom
and both bedrooms that were there.
And people just got weird vibes in it.
And my, my daughter included, mywife included, and you'd hear a
little, you hear a little weird noises and stuff and you'd hear
(23:47):
doors open and shut and things like that.
Things will turn on and off things with, you know, think it
was crazy, it was wild. And, and, and it's at one point
it got so bad because you know, the, the, my wife and, and, and
my daughter, they told me about it.
And I'm like, I'm not saying it,I want to see it.
I'm not saying it. But then I want to say like, I
forget now because it's been, you know, a lifetime ago, pre
(24:09):
COVID. But I want to say like it was
something that kept on turning on and off in my room.
And I'm like, OK, all right, I see you.
I see you. And then the next time, like
they went out to like go get groceries, go do something, what
have you. I'm like, hey, I don't know what
you got going on here, but you're starting to freak
(24:30):
everybody in this household out.So if you could just take it on
somewhere else, just just, you know what I mean, no harm, no.
Foul dad voice on the ghost. I did.
I did Dad voice the ghost. I was like, I don't like it
anymore. Roll out my friend.
And then it kind of it kind of it kind of died down.
So but yeah, it was it was creepy.
It was. Creepy low.
(24:50):
It's ghost tail between its legs, right?
Come on. Went to haunt another family is.
That where Doyle's haunted toaster came from?
Oh my God. It was from your.
Apartment in in Sherman Oaks. How could I have forgotten that
subplot? Yeah, no, unfortunately none of
(25:10):
Doyle's conspiracy cavern came from came from my my paranormal
friends over there. But yeah, my gosh, it was weird.
It was. Weird, but could it like right
now? Like right now, Nothing.
We're good, OK. I think we're OK.
I don't think it followed. Next week.
I mean, who's following? Like, look, he's going to stay
(25:31):
in Sherman Oaks and not and not head up the the hour.
And a half to Bakersfield. And I can't blame a ghost for
that, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah.
Brian, what about you? No, it's, it's and I, I told
Trent this before I had a a little stint where I wanted to
be a normal investigator. That's so cool.
(25:52):
There was a when I was back in Virginia, there was a little
group and went on a couple of things, but it just, no, I
didn't. Didn't find anything.
No, didn't see anything that really impressed me.
Didn't you know? It's it's I used to, I think my,
my term was, yeah, this place isas haunted as a Starbucks, you
know, you know, I, and don't getme wrong, I mean, I will, I
(26:13):
will. There are some rooms that like
really creep me out, whether it's in a house that's supposed
to be haunted or not, or just some Random House I'm walking
through. And it's like, yeah, I'm
getting, you know, oogie vibes from that that place.
But now I've never, never had a,a direct experience not to get
corny or, or, you know, to get, you know, oh, you know, I do
(26:34):
feel like it could, you know, I do feel like when my son was
born because my dad passed away,I feel like my dad was there.
But yeah, you know, you know, asfar as you know, the, the, the,
you know, the rattling chains orthe, the, you know, the slime on
the wall or the blood that gets off on the 2nd floor.
No, I've just, I've never had anything.
(26:55):
I've never had anything like that I've experienced.
My when we travel, because we wetravel quite a lot, I always
know that Kevin's like trying toget in my good books or trying
to show me that he does actuallylove me by suggesting to go on
ghost tours because that's not his thing.
That's my thing. That's a good man right there.
Oh, he is. He's the best.
Y'all have all met him. He's the best.
But I mean, we've done Boston, we've done Cambridge, we've done
(27:17):
New Orleans. We did, I think, parrot.
I mean, just different ones. And I've never seen anything.
I do think that I've heard things and I do think that I've
felt things. But I've got a theory on this
that I think my family, Well, first of all, I've shared with
you all what my dad's professionwas, right?
I think I have. And so for our listeners, if I
(27:38):
didn't share it on a recording, up until about a year ago when
he retired, my dad was the chiefmedical examiner in Dallas, TX.
And so obviously he worked. He did autopsies, he testified
in court cases. And so he was working around
death all the time. He would love nothing more than
to see a ghost. And his office was supposed to
have been haunted. And so I've got this theory that
(27:59):
when you spend that much time that close to the veil, you kind
of become immune to the to like the signs and the sounds, right?
It's why they say kids and animals can sense it, but you
become more jaded as an adult and you just can't.
So I think that those conversations were very
commonplace in our in our home growing up.
And so I think if I were around a spirit, I might not notice the
(28:21):
things that someone else a little bit more sensitive or a
little bit more removed would notice.
But man, what I what I love to, I really would.
There was a, a freelance cake I was doing in New York and the
company that was setting me up, they were putting, they were
putting me up as well. And they were like on the phone
telling me, well, don't worry, this isn't the the Haunted 1.
(28:42):
And I'm like, I'm sorry. And they go, it's, it's not the
Haunted 1. And I'm like, what do you mean
the Haunted One? They go, oh, you haven't heard?
I said no. And they said, yeah.
Well, you know, we've had some artists who claim that this
thing is I'm like, can it be theHaunted one?
They're like, no. It's.
It's occupied and I I told that to my daughter.
She just goes, why would you want to do that?
(29:03):
I'm like just see more proof. Are you kidding me, A?
100 she's like, she's like, you wouldn't sleep.
I'm like, I don't sleep now as it is.
I might as well just have some more knowledge of or who knows,
maybe of a ghost conversation ordad talk one who knows.
Yeah. The hotel that we had a
reception and after we got married is one of the like top
haunted locations in Texas. It's also a really beautiful
(29:25):
hotel. I would have chosen it for the
ghost. We kind of globally chose it
because it's a nice hotel, but like, damned if I wasn't running
around in my wedding dress. Like, where's the woman in
white? I don't see her.
I'm so extra I swear. I imagine a lot of people seeing
you with a disheveled kind of look on your face.
Exactly. You really for the woman in
white. Chaotic bride just running up
(29:46):
and down the hotel. The rumor was that he left her
at the altar. I don't.
Know there was a story. I remember there's a video on
it. It was at a convention where
someone asked these two actors. So in Vancouver, they were doing
a ghost tour. And this was about 10 years or
so ago. And of course they're, you know,
(30:08):
they're late at night. And so that they're doing their
little intro shield, you know, this is where we're going to
walk to, you know, staying together.
And the story goes that halfway through, Jensen Ackles and Jared
Padalecki just show up in costume, and we're just walking
behind this group for like 10 minutes before someone finally
(30:29):
turned around. And they're like.
I would absolutely die. Like this place is real whit
jesters are here. I met Jared Padalecki.
Did I ever tell you all that? No, you.
Didn't They're both Texas boys, aren't they?
Yes, that's that's How I Met him.
Is he either still owns or used to own this bar in Austin?
And I was at the bar and he cameup and like, man, in my head,
(30:53):
I'm like, if I ever meet a celebrity, I'm going to be so
cool. OK, Spoiler alert, I am not
cool. I mean, I was tripping over
myself and he was the nicest person ever.
Like the bartender saw that I was such a big fan because I
love that show. I'm rewatching it with my
daughter right now and bought uslike whiskey shots.
So I got to take a shot with himand then like took a picture and
(31:14):
he's like, you're a really good hugger.
And I'm like, I love you so much.
I mean, I was so uncool. It's crazy that it was that cool
when you started the conversation with, well, just so
you know, I'm Team Jess. I really should have I I had had
too many beverages before he even showed up to put any
coherent thoughts together. I was not I've.
(31:36):
Heard of so many actors that areout there that are hard to work
with. Those two guys are like the
complete 100 opposite. They're just, you know, they're
just, they're, they're down homeguys, they're.
Texas Boys. Yeah, but Aaron hates.
Thank you for asking. You know, what am I going to do
for Halloween as well? So now I am because I am the.
(31:58):
No, yeah, no, it's, it's that's all right.
You know, just just the writer or producer of the show, you
know, that's so. Yeah.
Well, Brian, I'm so glad that you picked up the mantle of
picking on there. And this was because I just
don't have it in me this early in the morning, but my God.
That. Made my heart sore so please
continue. I've been I've been sitting on
that for the last 10 minutes andPoker face for once, once.
(32:22):
Well, so. I'm the, I'm the old man in the
room. There is someone who is about 29
days older than me. But as the old man, my, my, my
son is, is a little bit too old to be going around trick or
treating with dad, You know, nowhe's at the point where he just
wants to go to the school eventsor, you know, go out with his
friends. And I, I, for the last, I was
(32:44):
very happy. I was, I got to dress up and
walk him around and his friends, you know, for trick or treating.
But now, you know, being the oldI do, we, we try to, I try to
get him into horror movies. God knows I've tried and he's
just not having it. I will watch my Halloween.
I will watch my Friday the 13th.But really, I just, I go around
and as an old man, just shake myfists at all of the the Walmarts
(33:05):
that have their Christmas decorations up already.
And. I'll go around and I'll, I'll,
I'll throw, throw rocks at people that are, you know,
wearing Uggs or, you know, any pumpkin spice.
I'm going to go and just tear itout.
No, it, it's this is our season. You don't, you don't.
You keep your pumpkin spice. You keep your Uggs.
(33:26):
No, this is this is our season. You don't.
I don't want to get Thanksgiving.
Old man pumpkin Spice was the least favorite Spice Girl, so
you know it's. No, absolutely not.
Just didn't have the fashion sense.
Yeah, orange again. Really.
I'm now imagining both Trent andBrian sitting on a porch and
shouting get off my lawn together like I just see it.
(33:47):
Just at each other. Mostly.
Yeah, you guys, there's there's no lawn for three yards.
Like what are you guys yelling at?
No. Lawn get off.
My lawn get off my. Lawn.
Oh God, we got a cosplay Herschel and Cecil.
I would pay good money for that.I can't do the voice.
I can't do the drunk one. Just just Trent's got you.
(34:11):
He he can do them both at the same time here so.
What am I working like a ventriloquist dummy?
Learn to throw your voice and we'll.
Just in my best dream here, working like a ventriloquist
dummy buddy. Amazing.
Amazing part of own. I'll be played by Kyle Brown
all. Right.
(34:33):
Should we wrap it up? I think so, I think.
So I was trying to take a quick look there while we were
chatting to see if we had listener questions from a
previous episode, but I didn't mark the ones that we asked.
So I don't, I don't have any listener questions to get to you
for this, but we do have some great questions when we do get
to talk to Miss Brummett and I. I can't wait.
So for all of our listeners, thank you so much for hanging in
(34:54):

We love chatting with you. We can't wait to share this
episode with you when we are able to pull it together.

we want to thank you so much forlistening.
