Speaker 6 (00:29):
Yeah, great day, really joyful, meeting a lot of great people,
talrying about the day before Christmas.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Yeah, catching up with Tristan. It's been great.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
That's good.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
That's good. You guys are in Atlanta only for like
forty eight hours roughly here, So tell me what have
you guys been doing or what's the plan when you're
in Atlanta.
Speaker 6 (00:44):
When I'm in Atlanta, I love to eat, okay, tell me, well,
I went to.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Lake Colonial Place head Yeah, so good.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
What did you order?
Speaker 6 (00:53):
Have to ask? Oh my gosh, I had the egg
plant veggi girl and crispy pork and shrimp agross.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Ye, who's good there? And then I took a walk.
I love to walk, especially in the rain.
Speaker 6 (01:05):
I don't get the rain a lot in La So
when I'm here, I'm just I'm soaking up that the
Georgia fall rain.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
And the atmosphere.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Yes, I love that. Now, what about you, Christan? What
have you been up to in Atlanta?
Speaker 3 (01:17):
I've been chilling, man.
Speaker 5 (01:18):
You know, I have my whole family with me and
my wife and my two girls.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
So, uh, you know, we've we've been cooling. We've been cooling.
Speaker 6 (01:26):
You know.
Speaker 5 (01:26):
I don't get a chance to go to the restaurants
that I would like to go to out.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Here just a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
It's fun, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
You know I can't.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
I can't bring my daughters to Magic City to get wings.
So you know, it's it's it's fine. Fine, maybe when
they get a little older.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Yeah, but they say, you know, they have the best wings.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
And I heard the lamb chops there too are fine.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
For the food.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
I promise you that says you will not be disappointed.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
And talking about not being disappointed, I mean this movie,
I know you're just now seeing it for the first time.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
I saw it is good.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Yes, yeah, so we are here really to talk about
your newest movie coming out on b ET Plus.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Tell me more about it. The title when it drops
all of it.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Well, it's called The Day Before Christmas.
Speaker 5 (02:15):
Yes, it comes out on Thanksgiving, which is November twenty eighth,
for anybody who's watching and wants to know.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
And basically, it's a movie but about two single.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
Parents who on a very very busy day the day
before Christmas, after trying to bring their children to a
church Christmas trip and missing the bus, they kind of
switch phones and hilarity ensues. You get a chance to
kind of see how our day spirals spiral out of
(02:45):
control and everything that we do to kind of help
each other along the way.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
Yeah, two strangers who then end up as friends. It's
really sweet.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Yes, it really is.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
But I mean you say sweet, but Candi, you are
stressing me out at the beginning of the fun of
the Girl, I can't remember something we we Oh my gosh,
I can't wait for people to see it. But especially
also you, Tristan, your character is very at the beginning,
I will say.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Loo, super careful, super you know, he's he's just very uh,
he just goes and he was not a fan of
Miss lady at the beginning, but it's okay. I don't
think anybody was a fan of anybody.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
That's true love it.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
So tell me a little bit more about your characters
and honestly your favorite trait or characteristic about that character
for you.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Well, I play and d.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
Is a photographer, freelance photographer, and he is very, very
care free. He lives life by the seat of his
pants and a lot of times that kind of doesn't
work in his favor, actually cost him his marriage. And yeah,
I think we see him at a place where he is,
(04:02):
I guess, trying to learn to be better. And who
better to bring that out of him than Nia.
Speaker 6 (04:09):
Nia miss type a single mother, should I tell you?
A widower, Yeah, which is pretty heartbreaking, so raising her
daughter alone and a caterer, so young entrepreneur as well,
and just somebody who doesn't lose.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Her cool too much. But through meeting Rasha.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
A little bit and it's.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Almost like she needs to be shaken up.
Speaker 6 (04:34):
Her character really towards the end of the film appreciates him,
but in the beginning is irritated. So it's a cute
journey as you see them both spiral and how they
both influence each other.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
I would say, yes, yeah, I definitely agree. So I
know you're telling me more about these characters. But why
did you decide to take on these roles specifically? Why
did you feel like this was the best.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
Fit for you?
Speaker 6 (04:57):
Right now, I would say, I'm just excited for the
for for me, just to get to act in something
that my friends and family can watch. The roles I've
had have been controversial, so this I know I can
put it on with my grandma, my young nieces, nephews.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
And they can enjoy it. So that and just a.
Speaker 6 (05:20):
Beautiful young two young, beautiful black people like on this
journey together.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
And it's just nice to see something.
Speaker 6 (05:28):
Pure and joyful around the holidays that I know that
people will enjoy. So it was fun to play her.
And my mom was a single mother, and I know
what those struggles were like growing up. So to be
able to portray that and kind of, you know, give
my mom a little homage, a little respect because I
know it wasn't easy for her is nice.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
So shout out to all the single.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Moms about you.
Speaker 5 (05:49):
I think I echoed that sentiment, you know, just having
something that's kind of beautiful and fun.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
You know I can't. I can't turn the wire on
for my daughters.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
No, but also just having a just just something, something
that feels good reading after reading the script and seeing
the characters that they created, seeing you know, Rashad having
his kind of coming of age while you're watching the movie.
It's I definitely wanted to be a part of it.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
I wanted to be.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
I just wanted to have something on my resume that
just feels good.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Like this.
Speaker 5 (06:25):
We all, I feel like we all need to do something,
whether you're in a movie or not. We all need
to do something, especially now, that feels good.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Yes, I agree, and I love you guys talked about it.
Everybody can watch this movie. It's a good wholesome movie.
I do love my Hallmark Christmas movie yeah, the Easy
Ones too, but this one is just it's just such
a good wholesome movie that I think everybody will enjoy.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
So I'm glad you said that.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
You and Tristan talking to you for a quick second,
I mean talked about The Wire nine to two one. No,
I mean the credits are there for sure, So tell
me more about how you feel like this character challenge
you for is your other roles that.
Speaker 5 (07:00):
You played man just I think any character that you play,
any time you have to jump into a brand new
skin is it's it's jarring. But knowing that Rashad is
a lot more he lives a lot looser than I do,
especially his with his son.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
I know.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
I know me as a father, I'm very protective. I'm
very like over my daughter's making sure that they're good.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
I don't.
Speaker 5 (07:25):
I didn't for a long time loosen up as much
as Rashad does, and it's probably not until recently, not
until I've gotten a chance to live in his skin.
So yeah, I think that was one of the biggest things,
just to kind of see a different version of fatherhood,
that what that type of fatherhood looks like.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
And why do you feel like it's important for people
to really see that type and version of fatherhood.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
In your person?
Speaker 5 (07:49):
I think it's necessary for us to see any type
of black fatherhood seen on camera.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
We don't.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
We don't see it as often as we used to
back in the day, those beautiful figures of fatherhood, you know,
and then to show it through the through the scope
of single parenthood. How how you handle that, how you
maneuver through that? I think I think it's necessary.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Yeah, absolutely, And Ken is going to you for a
quick second. I mean you have credits of your own
as well, most notably All the Queen's Men on BET Plus.
How do you feel like this role is different than
what you've played in the past, And like, I guess,
what do you want people to see from you in
this particular role.
Speaker 6 (08:31):
Oh, I'm so excited to ask that question again. I
feel like everything I've done has been a little controversial,
a little racy, Dimes extremely racy.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
All the Queen's Men is extremely racy. But this is
with Na.
Speaker 6 (08:45):
You get to see like a softer side of softer character,
somebody whose heart is like fully on their sleeve, fully
open and as being a mother at the forefront. I
think that changes anytime you play a character. So that's
just a joy for me to get to do that
and to just show the audience the different side of me.
And then I have range, and I want to get
(09:07):
to play as an actor and do everything possible.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
So I love it.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
And you mentioned range because I also wanted to ask
what other types of roles would you like to play
in the future, because we are seeing this great range.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
What do you see for yourself, you know.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
Yes, ma'am, thank you.
Speaker 6 (09:25):
Of course, a movie musical would be fad, A Broadway
would be great. I would love like an action film,
maybe something out in a beach I can see myself on.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Like a jet skirt and the furious.
Speaker 6 (09:40):
I would like to get my action on a little
bit while while these bones and these limbs can do it.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Okay, that's important.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
Know, Like I'm not like the Rock.
Speaker 6 (09:48):
The Rock is like going for it, but I would
like to do it while the body is still limber.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
You know, we can get in there, get some training.
Speaker 6 (09:54):
So anything like that, anything where I could physically use
my body, use my voice.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
And transform, I would love to.
Speaker 6 (10:00):
Did you like kind of like how Angelina Joey did,
like Maleficent, like a character.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
Character where you don't even see me, I'm hidden. I
would love to do that.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Oh my gosh. I love the vision and it's coming.
So I'm excited to see that range come to fruition. Now,
either of you or both of you. What was it
like working with the other cast members, a director, writer,
all the good stuff. What was it like behind the scenes?
Speaker 3 (10:22):
It was amazing, man. I think.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
This is one of those opportunities that you kind of
wish for where everything kind of just that first time
that you read the script together, it just felt like
you realize the magic that you would create. I you know,
I think I always I don't know about anybody else,
but I always get nervous coming onto a set for
the first time, or just meeting our cast for the
first time, just because you're going to be in contact
(10:48):
with different energies. You don't know what anybody's gonna have.
But literally, from that first time that we all sat
down and we all met and seen each other face
to face, it was like, oh, yeah, this is this
is something, this is this is definitely something here clicks.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
It clicks. Any words we want to add to that one.
Speaker 6 (11:06):
Same I mean a great director Jerry Lamarth. Yeah, our
wonderful team, our producers Pre Treill, and then our two
young actors e fabulous. So again it's like just all
the pieces of the puzzle coming together seamlessly and all
good vibes on the set.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Not a bad day. I mean that is rare.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
That makes work easy, right, Yes, I love that.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
I really love to see that.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
I know we're here for the movie, but I also
want to talk about some other things.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
What else are you guys working on right now? What's
to come for twenty twenty five or the rest of
the year.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Okay, I mean same day, yeah, talk about it.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Same day.
Speaker 6 (11:43):
We've got right after the day before Christmas. You can
tune into season four of All the Queen's Men.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Exciting about that. I love it.
Speaker 6 (11:52):
And then just working all my life, oh, my life,
my health, my mental health, for health yeah.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
Necessary, yeah, and for me, just more of the same.
We got more music coming, we got more film coming.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
A couple of TV spots.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
Yeah, and you know, there's a few other things that
I'm I'm delving into.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
But you guys, I'll let you guys wait and see.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Okay, Okay, we gotta wait for the dates and then
I'll leave it at that. Okay, we're talking about self care,
talking about Christmas movies. What are you guys gonna be
doing for the holidays? I want to know how are
we enjoying it this year.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
I'm gonna be with the family.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
I'm gonna be with my daughters, I'm gonna be with
my mom and be my wife.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
You know, I think I.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
Think we worked so much usually throughout the year, or
we're so focused on our careers. The holidays, the end
of the year, that's the kind of that's the time
to kind of decompress, to reassess, to get back prepared
for what you're about to do for the next year.
So I'm gonna be taking the time to do that.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Shop already for the family.
Speaker 5 (12:53):
Because I haven't haven't shopped yet, okay, but best believe
they are already on my back. I have a list
for all three of my girls. And when I say
my daughters and my wife, I love it all of them.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
What about you, miss Candice, what's going on for you?
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Decompress and reassess.
Speaker 6 (13:15):
I love that, But just be with my family. Honestly,
I like my quiet time. I like to be away
from the camera, you know, eat some good food, open
some gifts, and just share love with my family because
you know, life is really truly precious. I really like
felt that this year and just honoring every day, every moment.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
So I'm excited to just be with them.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Yes, beautiful, we can't get those memories back. Honestly, I
got to enjoy it. Okay, So too quick quish Christmas?
Christmas Christmas questions for you guys. First one, you can
only pick one, by the way, favorite holiday movie, favorite
Christmas movie?
Speaker 4 (13:51):
What would it be?
Speaker 3 (13:52):
I'll let you go first, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
I'm consistent home alone.
Speaker 2 (13:56):

Speaker 5 (14:00):

only one I know.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
Right carry.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Is it? Okay? Okay?
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Dang? And only one?
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Only one?
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (14:25):
Stevie Wonder has always been my like the God for me.
So twinkle twinkle little me, Stevie Wonder.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
I love that. I love that. I love that all right?
Speaker 1 (14:33):
One more time?
Speaker 2 (14:33):
The movie when it airs, when it drops, and how
can people watch it?
Speaker 5 (14:38):
Oh for anybody at home who wants to watch this movie?
And I pray that you do day before Christmas, November
twenty eighth, on Thanksgiving only on b et plus.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Okay, Perfect Perfect, Tristan Walls and Candice Smacks. Well, thank
you guys so much for coming into the studio today.
Happy to have you, and definitely go watch the movie.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
It's really good. I gotta say some myself, so I can't.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Wait to see it get a little holiday cheers.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
Yes, we need it once again, Alexandra Caimoni in the
studio iHeartRadio
