yeah but yeah good
to have them as a sponsor as
well
SPEAKER_01 (01:39):
yeah it was
particularly funny using the
walkie talkie function on thatand the five beeps that happened
beforehand oh yeah that's quitecool isn't it it is unless
you're listening to music butyeah it was good it was good it
means that yeah you don't haveto be holding any walkie talkie
keys you and I can just conversewhile we're in convoy all via
(01:59):
the app so another cool featureof that we did say last series
the good news that Johan at RoadTrip Tribes has told us Apple

SPEAKER_04 (02:11):
not quite here yet
but very very shortly I believe
SPEAKER_01 (02:13):
yes the word from
Johan at Road Trip Tribes is the
app has been signed off forCarPlay by Apple they just need
to put it on there
SPEAKER_04 (02:21):
yeah I think they've
got a few little tweaks to do to
it to get it up and runningmaybe doing some beta testing at
the moment
SPEAKER_01 (02:27):
yes have a look on
the app store for road trip

end of the month i think
SPEAKER_01 (02:43):
yes and is on our
super duper discount file shared
with dnhc members indeed so goand check that out at road trip
tribes thanks to the guys thereand to heritage parts for
backing Porsche on
SPEAKER_04 (03:06):
Car Podcast
SPEAKER_01 (03:25):
long in the tooth
almost like before it's even
arrived that that we could justall see it coming really you
know so it's it's the 992.2turbo s and it's been lacking a
turbo and turbo s has beenlacking from the new generation
of 911 for some time now we'vespoken at length on the podcast
how porsche is completely as yousaid andy like remixed the uh
(03:47):
the lineup and the um the storyof how the lineup develops is
completely different for 992yeah it changed certainly big
time 100%.
You know, a lot of, I think, external reasons are the main
cause of it.
But yeah, so we're getting usedto perhaps a new way of working.
And yes, exactly as you said, similar with that, Porsche
teasing us via its own socialmedia channels now.
(04:11):
But if you're a Porscheconnoisseur and many people
listening to this are, just likeyou and I, Andy, you could
pretty much work out what itwas, you know, like the
silhouette of the car.
You could see the turbosilhouette that we're all used
to with the active aero on theback of the car you know lack of
a big gts fixed wing yeah thecrest on the car was badged up
(04:35):
with the old turbanite hiddenyeah which we all know is it's
hinting at the turbanite badgewhich is different from the
usual porsche crest with centerlock wheels four-wheel drive and
you could even it was teasingsound which is again a new
territory for porsche i wouldsay but you could hear that
hybrid system that those of usthat have driven the gts will be
used to so yeah you could, youcould pretty much guess what it
(04:57):
was before Patrick Dempsey didthe big reveal from the live
broadcast at Vysak on a Sunday.
Yes.
They've kind of gone fromannoying journalists by
releasing cars in the middle ofthe night to appeal to the
California market to, uh, andgiving you the press release at
the end of the UK working day toreleasing it on a weekend.
(05:19):
So, I mean, I completelybypassed me.
I was, I was in the pub at thetime.
So, uh, yeah, try new stuff wedon't we don't mind it but if we
could just have a normal time ona weekday would possibly be
better yeah
SPEAKER_05 (05:31):
yeah
SPEAKER_01 (05:31):
rather than getting
in the way of a super sunday but
uh yeah interesting stuff soheadline news it's the most
powerful road going productionportion 11 ever does that beat
the gt2rs does indeed oh it does
SPEAKER_04 (05:45):
doesn't it yeah just
pips it
SPEAKER_01 (05:47):
yeah yeah by 11 yeah
horsepower so yeah the gt2rs was
700 hp 992.2 turbo s Thatrecord's
SPEAKER_04 (05:59):
been held for quite
a long time by that 997 though,
isn't
SPEAKER_01 (06:01):
it?
Yeah.
Eight years.
Yeah.
Eight years.
I know that the 991, 991 PDKcar.
Okay.
That was the, yeah, that was711.
The 997 I think was 620.
Okay.
A measly 620.
Yeah, only.
By, by, by yeah, today'sstandards.
So yeah, it, it, it topples the, the, the genuine Vysak car with
the GT2 RS, the most powerful911.
(06:23):
Headline figures behind the, the, 711 horsepower and 200 mile
an hour top speed is the use ofyeah that hybrid technology
which we used to from theintroduction of the gts yeah the
main difference being with thegts there was one e-turbo as
part of the hybrid system withthe turbo s there's two
SPEAKER_04 (06:45):
um Because you've
obviously driven the GTS.
What do you think that's
SPEAKER_01 (06:52):
going to feel like?
(07:15):
unbelievably quick unbelievablyquick point to point so what a
turbo s is going to do with thatsort of power it is frightening
SPEAKER_04 (07:26):
it is going to be
proper scrambling
SPEAKER_01 (07:27):
doesn't it really is
really is so that will be
interesting i mean you could sayyou know look this car is so
ridiculously quick now 062 in2.5 seconds that top speed of
200 mile an hour but 911 turbos's have been ridiculously quick
for decades
SPEAKER_04 (07:44):
yeah but they've
been a bit uh I don't want to
say soulless, but noise hasalways been a bit down, hasn't
it?
There's not much emotion goingon with the noise.
But I remember you specificallysaying that the GTS sounded
absolutely fantastic.
So I wonder if that's going tocarry through to this Turbo S
(08:04):
and it's going to be a bigswitch on from the previous
Turbos and Turbo S's.
SPEAKER_01 (08:09):
Yeah, I hope so.
I think the 992.1 generation carthat had a lovely soundtrack to
it, it was the first time Ithink Porsche really nailed the
sportiness of the soundtrack itwas the first time that actually
a sport exhaust was available onthe on the turbo so that that
did sound really really good soactually we hope that's not lost
now
SPEAKER_04 (08:29):
yes
SPEAKER_01 (08:30):
okay what I would
say is the GTS on board does
sound great with its hybridtechnology for this generation
car it sounds a bit PlayStationII but I don't mind it I grew up
on Gran Turismo don't mind itbut so yeah I'm hopefully I'll
have a decent soundtrack to itbut fair to be fair I really do
interestingly the cost you can'tlook past the cost this is a 200
(08:52):
mile an hour Porsche 911 it'salso a 200,000 pound Porsche 911
do you remember when
SPEAKER_04 (08:59):
we were talking
about the 50th just what seemed
like a few weeks ago or a fewmonths ago and we were like
that's expensive and now I'mlooking at that thinking
SPEAKER_01 (09:10):
compared to that to
be honest with you Andy I want
you you've nailed it I wanted tobring that up because we predict
Yeah.
Yeah.
(09:45):
we said in our write up and ourfeedback actually I think I
think under the March time itwill it will prove to be well
judged and and won't need a lotof time in order for that to
happen and I think we're therenow
SPEAKER_05 (09:55):
yeah
SPEAKER_01 (09:56):
and and actually you
know used examples of that turbo
50 are kicking around 200 200kand again like you said that's
for the last combustion engineturbo analog taco all in as well
you know so all optionsconsidered this car is 200k plus
options for the coupe 200 forthe cab.
(10:17):
And again, for context, so thatGT2 RS from 2018, that was, I
think I've got the price heresomewhere.
It's 207K that was new.
So this new turbo, I think, andI know there's a hell of
inflation gone into the mix inthose intervening years.
(10:40):
I think if you picked up a GT2RS when new at list price, You
have just done exceedingly wellbecause the hike in price of all
these cars, incidentally, the991.2 Turbo, so released at the
same time as that GT2 RS, whichis a genuine Vysak motorsport
car.
A Turbo S at the time was about160k.
(11:03):
So we're 40 grand on now in lessthan 10 years.
It is a heinous chunk of money.
It's
SPEAKER_04 (11:08):
mad, isn't it?
It almost feels like we're goingto be hitting the 997 scenario
where dot ones are a plenty.
There's thousands of dot onesbecause it was the high time.
And it's going to be like 992dot ones was the high time.
You know, there was turbosflying out the door all over the
place, wasn't there?
People were thinking they weregoing to make money and all that
(11:29):
sort of stuff.
And we're going to hit the 992dot twos, which is going to be
like the 997.2 is it minimalnumbers because
SPEAKER_01 (11:39):
recession i'm
SPEAKER_04 (11:39):
a bit scared of yeah
how many are going to sell to be
honest
SPEAKER_01 (11:42):
and again it's
another great point because i
was going to say to you i wonderhow many of these we're actually
going to see on the road and i'mi'm gonna you know let's play a
game put a number out there i'mi'm gonna guess for the uk c16
cars i reckon there's going tobe less than 300 of these do you
reckon i do yeah over over thelifetime of the car You know,
(12:04):
this is before you factor infinance costs and especially,
you know, what's the finance atthe moment with interest?
Is it around 9, 10?
I'll have to look that up.
You know, with Porsche approvedfinance, I need to check that.
But like, it's big money.
It's big money.
And this is kind of off the backof outside of a press car or a
(12:26):
Porsche dealership demo car.
I've not seen a GTS, i.e.
a hybrid GTS on the road in thiscountry yet.
No, have you?
I can't say I've been lookingout for them, to be honest.
Yeah, I've not seen any, youknow, cars and coffees or on the
motorways.
You can, you know, they're verydistinctive from the front
because they've got thatdifferent grille profile, almost
(12:46):
look like teeth, don't they?
Yeah, yeah.
So, you know, you'll be able tospot them.
Honestly, I've just not seenthem.
I've seen a couple of, you know, like base Carreras with internal
combustion engine.
But for these GTSs, I've justnot seen any.
They've been out for a year now.
Is it really?
I've just not seen any.
And this is a car that, youknow, no one's ever going to
(13:08):
jump out of one of those and go,it's not fast enough.
And with this being a 200k carnow, I just can't see many of
them being shifted at all.
So I'm going to say in the UK,992.2, there's going to be less
than 300 Turbo S's.
Hmm.
Answers on a postcard.
Yeah, we'll see.
Answers on a postcard.
Indeed.
(13:31):
So that's the Turbo S downloadand review really outside of the
specs yeah I guess so yeah we'vebeen on the road
SPEAKER_04 (13:40):
yeah a nice little
road trip up north sorry guys
sounds a bit derogatory doesn'tit saying that
SPEAKER_01 (13:48):
no not at all I mean
you know bearing in mind that
for Andy and I down there on thesouth coast we live in two
different parts of town but weare in the same town and
therefore anything north ofWinchester it gets a bit chilly
for us doesn't it really I
SPEAKER_04 (13:59):
was getting a
nosebleed as
SPEAKER_01 (13:59):
we were driving up
past the Watford Gap
SPEAKER_04 (14:03):
past Winchester
SPEAKER_01 (14:04):
so yeah we had uh we
had a fried eggs and friends at
porsche centre leeds which waswonderful yeah it
SPEAKER_04 (14:11):
was great
SPEAKER_01 (14:11):
wasn't it really
really good but we just built it
out into it into a bit of aweekend really yeah we had a
SPEAKER_04 (14:16):
little road trip
didn't we
SPEAKER_01 (14:16):
it's lovely and i
have to say andy because it was
just you and i that bombed upfrom the coast you and your sc
myself and in little irish anduh as as i said to you when we
stopped for lunch at some pointeven with just two cars you know
that whole adventure
SPEAKER_04 (14:31):
yeah
SPEAKER_01 (14:32):
it's exactly what it
is it's just a little little
adventure and it's just
SPEAKER_04 (14:35):
lovely seeing the
other car in the wing mirror
SPEAKER_01 (14:37):
it's definitely
SPEAKER_04 (14:37):
yeah
SPEAKER_01 (14:39):
and among like the
derriere of just ordinary boring
cars just to see that perfectedand iconic and timeless Porsche
shape yeah and I say thatbecause you know from a distance
from say the rear you know itcame and looks the same as a 911
there's that design philosophyit's all in all in the mix so it
doesn't have to be a 911 but itwas just fantastic it really
(15:00):
really was so really reallyenjoyed that that journey north
we popped in en route to Leedsat Charade UK well the HQ
actually at
SPEAKER_04 (15:09):
Cannock yeah first
time I'd been up there I was
obviously meant to go up therefor the awards ceremony but we
all know what happened there Iwas at home in bed gutted still
to have missed that but there wego but yeah it was great to get
up there and see what theirfacilities like
SPEAKER_01 (15:24):
up there bloody
impressive I was going to say
what did you make of it
SPEAKER_04 (15:26):
yeah it was really
impressive just a great set up
all round isn't it and everybodyseems in used and you know the
places looked after and yeahseems very different to to a lot
of other body shops that i'vevisited in the past a dusty mess
yeah it's nothing like that atall it's very surgical almost
(15:47):
yes which um you know comesacross from steve i met steve a
few times uh steve shaw um he'sa a well-cut man isn't he and um
his businesses as well i'd say
SPEAKER_01 (15:58):
yeah yeah it's it's
it's clinical yeah absolutely
clinical in the way it'sfinished and presented and the
other thing I think we'vementioned this before but you
know like a good barometer of abusiness is when you talk to the
staff and how engaged they arewith the ethos of the company
and what's really clear there isthe likes of Lee and Glenn and
Mark the general manager thatshow us around they absolutely
(16:23):
are on board with that
SPEAKER_04 (16:24):
may I say Mark makes
a marvellous cup of tea does he
did you get a cup of tea or youmissed out I might have missed
out oh yeah thank you Markamazing cup of tea excellent up
up again
SPEAKER_01 (16:35):
really good really
good yeah we've had um we've had
a couple of friends some carshave gone to charade over the
last like year or two and i haveto say the feedback that we've
got and it's kind of why iwanted to pop in again and like
give the team at charade thefeedback in terms of like how
you're handled from the momentyou make that call and say oh
i'd like this repaired or youknow i want this restored yeah
(16:58):
he's really impressive so we'rehoping one of the team can join
us to talk through that in a bitmore detail yeah but uh Um,
yeah, it was great.
You know, there's lovely non and1.2 turbo S cab there that
caught my eye.
Uh, and that was about toundergo some repair work, but
also they had a, an EV McCannturbo in there with its turbo
night badges that, uh, yeah, unfortunately it's come into
(17:19):
contact with something at somepoint, but you know, this is
kind of the point that as soonas, as soon as Porsche releases
a vehicle, if you're a Porscherecommended repairer, like
charade, you have to be trainedand skilled to deal with that
from day one because becausesomeone could feasibly drive out
the center of the dealership, have an accident and, uh, and
(17:39):
it's got to be repaired bysomeone that knows what they're
doing, particularly in referenceto the new technology.
I'll
SPEAKER_04 (17:44):
tell you what was
really interesting because that
the new McCann that they wererepairing, um, I think that was
one of the first ones that hasgone through some sort of
repairs.
And, um, it was, um, Glenn thatwas taking me around and showing
me around and he was saying theydidn't have the methods yet.
I had to ask for the methods.
Um, So they got the methods onhow to repair the Macan.
(18:06):
But because they're sowell-respected in what they do,
they were actually going backwith feedback to change the
methods.
Because obviously the methodsare a theory.
It's not actually been done yet.
But they were feeding back.
They found things to do thatthey could do it in a better
(18:28):
way.
So they were able to feed backon those early methods they
received and that'll be withPorsche yeah with Porsche yeah
back in Stuttgart to actuallyimprove the way that these cars
are are repaired wow so yeahthey're on the forefront as it
were
SPEAKER_01 (18:47):
awesome absolutely
awesome I mean someone has done
some incredible service then inbiffing a wall or whatever
because it's big bollard it'sbecome a learning curve for
everybody so yeah that was withthe I think I might have said
hybrid earlier on I meant EV ifthat was the case but yeah the
EV mechanic So yeah, all sortsgoing on.
It was awesome to pop in and seeall of that.
(19:08):
And again, great, great peopleat Charade UK.
And there's a new site actuallyopen for Charades Empire.
There's a new one at Tunbridgenow.
Yes.
Yeah.
So we've got Cannock HQ inBristol, Cheltenham and now
Tunbridge.
SPEAKER_04 (19:28):
Yeah.
I don't know if Tunbridge isopen
SPEAKER_01 (19:29):
yet.
I believe it's the start of nextmonth officially.
Okay.
Yeah.
yeah so yeah really really coolso yeah lovely to lovely to pop
into charade en route to PorscheCentre Leeds and
SPEAKER_04 (19:39):
Steve came along to
Leeds bought his 993
SPEAKER_01 (19:42):
yes yeah so it's
good to chat with him with his
lad as well yeah so but yeah thenight before Fridays and Friends
we met up with some members ofthe DNHC yeah it was a lovely
evening meal had a bit of dinnerit was
SPEAKER_04 (19:54):
great good to see
everybody good bit of chin
wagging
SPEAKER_01 (19:56):
yeah yeah really
really really was lovely to meet
the northern contingent and I'vegot a funny story actually so
I'll sit next to Johnny andstraight away he said Leo I've
got a bone to pick with you I'mafraid in regard to your content
I said go on Johnny enlighten meand you'll remember at the start
of this year we did at HeritageCar Parts we did our cost of
running a Porsche
SPEAKER_05 (20:16):
yeah
SPEAKER_01 (20:18):
and oh god yeah I'd
introduced that metric of you
know once you work out your likeannual running costs like to do
the cost per mile
SPEAKER_03 (20:24):
yeah
SPEAKER_01 (20:25):
and Johnny did that
I won't say on which car but um
eight pound a mile eight pound amile and he said I regret the
day I ever sat down with apaperwork to work that out.
I don't believe that would havebeen communicated internally,
i.e.
at home.
So, Johnny, so long as you'rewatching this podcast on your
own or listen to it on your own, then you might have got away
(20:47):
with it.
If not, there's an apologycoming.
I bet that
SPEAKER_04 (20:50):
number has reduced.
If it's the car that he's justtaken away to Norway, I bet the
average cost per mile hasdrastically reduced because he's
just done a big trip aroundNorway, isn't he?
Yes.
Yeah, I think he's still outthere isn't he is he still out
there yeah yeah yeah he shippedhis car over i don't know how he
shipped it he just left took itto the port and they shipped it
(21:12):
over didn't they yeah and thenhe flew over um and has done a
tour of norway and in fact he umhe met up with one of the dnhc
out there simon who's instravanga is that have i
pronounced that
SPEAKER_01 (21:27):
let's go with it
andy yeah
SPEAKER_04 (21:28):
something like that
uh there was a there was a call
from johnny um Um, one late oneevening help.
Does anybody know anybody inStravanga or surrounding area?
I need, I need somebody to welda bit of my exhaust up.
And I thought, ah, Simon that wemet in Norway.
(21:49):
He came up to the, to the, toGranger with us
SPEAKER_01 (21:53):
yeah it's been twice
now this
SPEAKER_04 (21:54):
year yeah I think in
fact the first year he wasn't a
member of the DNHC yet was hebut he joined and not long after
remembered that he was inStravanga I've pronounced it
another different way reallymurdering it yeah put them in
contact and yeah managed to finda garage sorted Johnny's exhaust
(22:15):
out I think he welded shut hisvalve or something that okay
yeah come I think they put atack on it before and it had
come undone so yeah yeah yeah
SPEAKER_01 (22:26):
the power of the
dnhc the power of the dnhc
indeed that is amazing and yesjohnny after your eight pound a
mile calculation I hope you'requite literally well down the
road with that figure now and aswe've recently realized online
works the new motto should bethe more you drive the more you
save absolutely johnny'sexperience being testament to
that so yeah really good to seethose guys but yeah I think that
(22:49):
the reason we were up north wasfor the next day with our fried
eggs and fries at Porsche CentreLeeds
SPEAKER_04 (22:53):
yeah thank you Wayne
for the for sorting everything
out Wayne Marnie a DNHC memberalso works at Porsche Leeds he
is head of classic isn't he yeahyeah and what a great day it was
SPEAKER_01 (23:10):
it was all
absolutely awesome it was really
good to get a good old pokearound the site really and a bit
of the business I don't knowabout you but like I've been
very aware of JCT 600 the ownersof Porsche Centre Leeds centre
Leeds for years to be honestwith you years and years so yeah
really really good to have alook around we've got a little
bit of a quick history Andy ifyou're happy to entertain it
(23:31):
yeah I think
SPEAKER_04 (23:31):
we should do
SPEAKER_01 (23:32):
on JCT so for those
that don't know JCT 600 to quote
the full name was founded in1946 by Edward Tordoff but it
gained its name from thepersonalised number plate
believe it or not love thatstory of Edward's son Jack
Tordoff who won the circuit ofIreland Rally and that was in a
Porsche 911 by the way I thinkit was his auntie's number plate
(23:54):
really I think so yeahinteresting well that was it was
in 1973 and the number plate wasJCT 600 so from a single garage
JCT 600 grew into a major familyrun automotive retail business
with what is described as asignificant a significant
presence in Yorkshire and thesurrounding areas and certainly
(24:14):
in terms of the Porschedealership network up there JCT
owns a couple of others as wellI think there's a satellite one
in York T side as well is underthat sheffield too sheffield as
well yeah well played yeah wherewe've also done a fried eggs and
friends previously so it's it'squite an empire i think today
the center well it still remainsfamily run obviously but i think
(24:36):
aside from porsche center southlakes yeah which we called north
lakes for about two years untilwe looked it up uh is also
family run so aside from thatit's kind of a unique setup to
the network yeah really um andin terms of physical footprint I
think the big thing that I tookaway from was just the sheer
size it was a monster I'm notaware and this includes HQ at
(24:59):
Reading I'm not aware of abigger Porsche site in the UK
than that it is absolutelymassive
SPEAKER_04 (25:05):
yeah it's huge isn't
it I couldn't believe what
they're doing looking to do wellwe I'm sure we go into that
later yeah in the what the modsthey do into the the center
SPEAKER_01 (25:14):
yeah with guys yeah
yeah big revamp incoming as part
of like Porsche GB's likemission for destination Porsche
yeah really but yeah lots to fitin there particularly with Leeds
being a classic partner one oflike the half dozen in the UK
really yeah so it's a reallycool place whether you are an
(25:35):
owner fan or aficionado ofmodern metal but also classic as
well these days so really reallygood we were so chuffed to
Porsche Centre Leeds for lettingus rock up with a load of DNHC
members and wider Nomux TVsubscribers as well in fairness
to make what was a reallylovely, fun morning.
Had a good vibe, didn't it?
SPEAKER_04 (25:56):
It did, yeah.
It was a really good vibe.
Yeah.
Nice, relaxed, enthusiastic.
Lots of good chats going on.
Good people smiling, drinkinggood coffee.
Yeah, it was
SPEAKER_01 (26:09):
great.
Yeah, yeah.
Did you know that we were goingto have our cars put in the
showroom for the morning?
No,
SPEAKER_04 (26:13):
that was
SPEAKER_01 (26:13):
a bit of a surprise.
It was a fun surprise.
I would have
SPEAKER_04 (26:16):
washed mine if I'd
known.
SPEAKER_01 (26:19):
I'll tell you what.
You know, if you own a 175 000mile 28 year old 996 you know
the last place it should be isin a showroom next to a brand
spankers new careerity yeahbecause every stone chip and
rock mark and swell mark thewhole thing showed up there
(26:41):
under the magnifying glass ofshowroom those
SPEAKER_04 (26:43):
lights yeah they do
fire off everything
SPEAKER_01 (26:46):
yeah yeah it was uh
it was it was frightening
actually to see it to see it allbut all so really cool to sit in
a showroom you know as thosecars did once upon a time for
the first time when their firstcustodian was collecting the car
so yeah really cool gesture fromWayne so thank you buddy
SPEAKER_04 (27:03):
yeah thank you for
all the organisation it was
great Nick did well
SPEAKER_01 (27:07):
we have got a
conversation with a couple of
the guys from Porsche Leeds fromthat morning have we not
SPEAKER_04 (27:12):
we have including
Wayne
SPEAKER_01 (27:14):
including Wayne
SPEAKER_04 (27:14):
and Mark who is is
that new car sales manager yeah
new business really yeah newbusiness So yeah, good to
SPEAKER_01 (27:28):
chat with them.
(27:51):
Thank you.
At Porsche Centre Leeds.
And then we've got Mark, who'sgeneral manager, heading up new
car sales.
Excellent.
So I feel like we've got a footin either camp here.
If you don't like the showroomcars, that's my fault, sorry.
That's where Wayne comes in thenfrom there.
SPEAKER_02 (28:06):
Exactly.
Well, I think my showroom carsare far better.
SPEAKER_01 (28:10):
You've got a bit of
a competition going on.
What do we think?
Who's won?
Some good classic cars in there, apart from the Irish green car
and the slate grey.
But I guess we'll get on to thatvery shortly.
So, as we said, we're sograteful that you guys have let
us rock up here.
This is a really interestingcentre.
(28:31):
We had a little bit of a tourearlier on that Wayne, you
showed us around.
I'm absolutely astounded by thefootprint of this place.
I think it feels bigger, particularly with the work that
you're going to do, which we'lltalk about.
But in terms of footprint, itfeels bigger than even Porsche
GB HQ at Reading.
sizeable place.
SPEAKER_06 (28:48):
Well, so yeah, we're
going to go for redevelopment.
I was down at Reading about twoweeks ago, seeing what they've
done.
That's Destination Porsche.
So what you've got there isdifferent areas for the
showroom.
You've got an electric area, classic area.
Well, what we're going to go tois we're going to change our
prep area.
So where you see the servicepark behind us, that's going to
move behind Ferrari.
So eventually, this will be awhole U-shape around the
(29:09):
building for new and used cars.
So the current development'sgoing on.
So behind Ferrari, that's goingto be our prep centre.
then we go down the road towhere Bentley used to be that's
currently going to be used by usprobably middle of next year as
a showroom while this showroomwill be done completely we'll
have a specific area for Classicthen with a ramp in its own
destination area so if you go toa newer centre like Nottingham
(29:33):
or Reading that's the start andthat's what will become to
another level
SPEAKER_01 (29:38):
Excellent,
absolutely awesome it feels like
and maybe our DNHC members thatlive up here might be a better
place to a pine about this thanme, but this kind of feels like
a bit of a, in terms of Porschedealers, like the hub of the
north.
SPEAKER_06 (29:51):
Yeah, it is.
I actually come from Manchesterevery day, so I've worked at
Wilmslow Porsche previously.
You go over the Pennines, you'vegot a lot of sensors within five
miles, or within 40, 50 miles ofeach other.
This is the second-largestPorsche sensor, or Leeds is,
when we had Brookton'spreviously.
So overall, it's us, then you'reup to York, you're up to
Sheffield.
So we do dominate the area.
(30:13):
You know, as a sensor, we get aproblem double the volume of
cars in the centre so we are abig big centre so sometimes our
lead times are different becauseof the size and the footprint
that we've got basically
SPEAKER_01 (30:24):
doing a bit of
research at the end of last
series we had a podcast episodewhere we were talking about
iconic licence plates and then Ididn't realise with JCT600
basically the name of thebusiness formed from the licence
plate
SPEAKER_02 (30:38):
yeah some initials
and the licence plate
SPEAKER_01 (30:40):
really cool it's
worth sharing the story for
those that don't know that ifyou wouldn't mind Wayne I
SPEAKER_02 (30:45):
I'm struggling to
remember what it's about, but
basically, yeah, JCT relates to,was it his aunties?
Yeah, his aunties' initials, andthen 600 came from a plate.
Yeah.
So it was Jack, wasn't it?
Yeah, that's Jack Tordoff, yeah.
Most iconically seen on the 73RS, which he rallied.
He actually won the Tour ofIreland in that car, and came
(31:08):
third in the championship, Ibelieve, behind, check my notes,
it was Roger Clark.
So a bit of a brilliant driverthere as well.
He previously raced Saabs with aV4 engine.
So he's a massive motorsportnut, and that's carried on
through the family as well.
We've got Sam Tordoff, who'sdone the Carrera Coupe, more
(31:30):
famous as a touring car driver, now does more historic racing.
And then we've got John Tordoffas well.
He does a lot of historic racingnow as well.
So we've got a real
SPEAKER_01 (31:43):
heritage behind us
as well.
That's wonderful.
article online from 2012 wheresam i think as a 17 year old got
to drive his grandfather's 2.7rs lightweight as well might i
add one of 17 and that was thefirst ever car he'd driven on
the road yes yeah someintroduction
SPEAKER_02 (32:01):
yeah yeah yeah it
looks very different from when
jack had it when jack had thecar is red um we actually found
some we did a film night forclassic um i think it was last
year or the year before and weactually found a little tiny bit
of eight mill footage on theinternet somewhere of it
literally bouncing through aforest on this unmade road.
(32:22):
And it just looks amazing.
A great little piece of footagewe found.
And we used that little segmentin our introduction to the film
night.
And it's great to see it brightred.
And then when Sam tested it overthat, it changed to white and it
had the red decals down the sideas well.
SPEAKER_01 (32:36):
Yeah, yeah.
I know JCT is going to celebratea big milestone next year and
being 80 years old as a company,as a group, being Porsche of
brought into the group in 1967.
So there's huge longevity andhistory to the company.
I think what makes JCTdifferent, although it's not the
only one, but what makes itdifferent from a lot of Porsche
(32:57):
centres in the network is, youknow, it's still family owned.
Does that create an advantagefor you guys?
I'm sure you're going to sayyes.
SPEAKER_02 (33:04):
I think it does,
yeah.
Yeah, it gives us, you know, Ipersonally know Sam.
I personally know John.
I look after a couple of John'scars.
I used to work under Sam when Ipreviously worked at another
part of business.
A story about Sam, the firsttime I started the job, I
started as a mechanic forMaserati.
I was walking through the carpark.
(33:25):
He'd never met before.
Good morning, Wayne, how areyou?
Nice to see you.
That's the first words out ofhis mouth.
And that says it all, I think, about the company.
Here at Porsche Leeds, it's verymuch a family.
We're all friends.
You can work some places andit's not the greatest, but this
is a great little place.
You feel welcome.
We I'll have a laugh, a joke.
(33:46):
There's a lot of socialisinggoing on.
You play golf with a lot of theteam.
SPEAKER_06 (33:50):
We are a family,
from a family values that we
have, basically.
So I've got a team in saleswhere people have been here
three years, 15 years.
So you'll see a familiar facefrom the sales department if
you've been buying from a periodof time, basically, which is
very rare in this industry.
I've been here five years.
Wayne's been here two and a halfyears.
We're all car enthusiasts, justlike yourselves.
So it's just nice to spend timewith enthusiasts, really.
(34:12):
And the family let us do that.
Yes, we've got KPI eyes andmatrix but it's all about people
if we've got the right peopleworking for us we get good
relationships from you guysbasically so it's nicely a great
turnout today for wayne thankyou
SPEAKER_01 (34:23):
i know mega stuff
actually again wayne just before
this morning started and youwere just giving us a bit of a
sneak peek into some likeembryonic design plans for the
center and changing but like themooted area for classic is
sizable and it's really nice tosee because you know most people
i think here today drive a carthat would perhaps fall under a
(34:45):
classic program defined byPorsche as a car that's out of
production for 10 years, right?
It's quite nice to see us asowners being thought of in that
way.
SPEAKER_02 (34:57):
The role was created
a couple of years ago.
I actually saw it advertised onthe JCT.
We get emails through, thesejobs are available in JCT.
I was working at JCT as aworkshop manager somewhere at
another site, and I just lookedat the job and thought, I want
that job.
I want that job.
(35:17):
I
SPEAKER_04 (35:18):
think I remember
seeing you at Sheffield, and
you'd either just got it or youwere applying for it.
I'd
SPEAKER_02 (35:24):
just got
SPEAKER_04 (35:24):
it.
SPEAKER_02 (35:25):
I'd just got it, and
I spoke to you guys, So yeah,
the idea of having you guys herewas in my head then.
That's how I saw it going.
When I went for the interview,my idea was I want Porsche Leeds
to be the centre of ownership.
I want it to be somewhere wherepeople can come, just drop in
(35:45):
for a coffee and a chat.
I've got several customers whojust literally do that.
They'll drop in for a chat andpick some parts up or come in
for the car servicing and we'llend up chatting for an hour or
so.
It's quite dangerous at times, really, talking to fellow
enthusiasts.
And I really wanted it to be apolitical community.
I wanted to really drive itforward in terms of what we
(36:08):
offer with Classic.
Often you see that OPCs are seenas not being open for owners of
Classic cars.
We are, especially here.
We're a Classic partner.
It's fundamental to what we do.
The history is important, and weneed to look after these cars.
(36:28):
So if you've got your early911s, your 996s, 997s, they're
all welcome.
We want you here.
We want to be able to serviceyour car.
We want to be able to supplyyour parts, give you advice, and
just have a laugh and a coffeewith you as well.
It's all part and parcel of whatwe do.
And I think part of the reason Igot this job is because of that
(36:49):
passion I've got.
Ultimately, I am a Porsche fan.
I was the kid with the poster onthe wall saying, some of you
must remember these.
I don't think, when I talk aboutit, people don't remember them.
They was like a black backgroundwith a car in front of it, white
Lamborghini, there was aFerrari, and a red flat bell
930.
(37:10):
I had the red flat bell 930,that was my favourite.
And, been a technician throughthe years, worked on classics,
et cetera, occasionally thePorsche, and the Porsche always
had something special.
You know yourself, you getbehind the steering wheel of the
Porsche There's like a calmness.
There's like a nice little smilecomes across your face.
(37:32):
Yeah, it's a passion for me.
SPEAKER_04 (37:35):
You said you've
worked on other brands in the
past.
What did you find differentabout Porsche from those brands?
SPEAKER_02 (37:42):
For me, they make
sense in terms of how they're
put together, how they operate.
UNKNOWN (37:50):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_02 (37:51):
I do get an
emotional connection with the
engines.
You start an air-cooled engineup, there's something there.
Balancing a set of carbs, it'spleasurable.
And with the later cars as well, you plug into them, you listen
to what it's telling you, youget a set of fault codes, and
(38:12):
they will lead you down a paththat you need to fix that
vehicle.
But it tells you a path thatmakes sense.
I used to work for Maserati.
Yeah.
Nothing made sense on them cars.
SPEAKER_04 (38:23):
So it's very much an
engineered car rather than a...
Oh,
SPEAKER_02 (38:27):
definitely,
definitely.
Yeah, very much an engineeredcar.
Years and years ago, I rememberthere was a little Seat.
I can't remember the exact modelof it.
And Porsche had been put ontothat car.
It had a cart spring on theback.
A friend of mine had it.
And that thing handled with acart
SPEAKER_01 (38:41):
spring on the back.
UNKNOWN (38:42):
LAUGHTER
SPEAKER_01 (38:43):
I think if you, to
get slightly geeky on it, if you
look at Porsche's, Porsche AG'sfull title, and it's, you know,
Dr.
Porsche of Engineering.
So it's an engineering companythat makes sports cars.
as opposed to a sports carmanufacturer right and that's
why Vysak there's a lot ofprojects that go on way beyond
(39:03):
automotive that we don't see thelint forklift trucks for example
cockpits for Boeing orabsolutely all sorts goes on at
Vysak way beyond the machinesthat we all drive but to go back
to it you know and again lookingaround the room here and seeing
lots of friendly familiar facesfrom the DNHC that have put in
(39:24):
great miles to be here we say itall the time on this podcast.
Nobody needs to own a Porsche.
We choose to, often for oursins, right?
Particularly us 996 owners.
But, you know, it's so...
And even to be here, we all wantto be here today.
It's so important that thatenthusiasm is matched by you
guys, ultimately.
(39:45):
And that's why it's great towalk in and see all these, you
know, old cars alongside the newstuff as well, because they all
contribute equal parts to thebrand.
Oh, definitely.
SPEAKER_02 (39:54):
Yes, definitely.
Porsche have a massive...
supply parts for these oldercars.
I think I was saying last nightto Andy, they even make a
dashboard for the 924, the earlycars with the three dials.
They're susceptible to cracking.
They even make a dash.
It's only available in black,but it's available.
(40:15):
They've made that part.
If you went to Ferrari or Audiand asked them for a part of a
similar age, they'd probablylaugh at you.
So having that parts backup isessential.
And it helps us keep these carsgoing.
And yeah, I think really goingforward there's going to be more
(40:36):
things coming out.
There's a few little electroniccomponents that are coming out
for the older cars as well.
They've recently brought out LEDlights, headlight bulbs for the
cars.
They're not available in the UKas yet.
So I'm hoping they're going toget sort of a ticket to say yes,
we can sell them.
Because I think they'd sellreally well for the G-Bodies and
(40:57):
996 particularly.
So you have Porsche have realinterest in what they're doing
SPEAKER_01 (41:04):
here.
With just going like becausewhere this is a classic partner
isn't it for Porsche you knowwhat what does that mean aside
from you know Mark you've had tocede some real estate to Wayne
with classic space in theshowroom.
SPEAKER_06 (41:20):
Yeah probably a few
years you had the choice of the
Porsche to be classic or doSonderwurst so you had a choice
of which way you went.
we've gone classic just to keepthe history of the company that
we've had as the family valuesfor what they've driven before,
basically.
So on that side, bringing it inWayne, we're probably more after
sales currently because themarket goes up and down as it
does.
(41:40):
The key thing is we're here foryou for whatever you need.
If it's to find a car that wesent to Australia about a year
ago, or is it basically to finda part or a dash, that's what a
classic sensor offers.
It offers that one stop shot ifyou need it, but we might have
to find one for you.
But Likewise, we've got theresource around us.
We've got a group who's beenhere probably, I think it was
(42:02):
his 40th year, was it, Wayne?
Yeah, 40 years.
Michael Betts has been here 40years.
So the connections he's got areunbelievable to where we'll send
cars to or find cars from.
So we can do that.
But then we've got Wayne'sknowledge.
I went to Goodwood, didn't we,about two and a half years ago.
Wayne had just started there.
His knowledge is unbelievable tohelp you guys for the knowledge
(42:22):
that you probably have on thatgeneration of cars.
So we've got a team of peoplearound you to help you.
on that side.
SPEAKER_01 (42:28):
Okay.
So that kind of covers theclassic bit, but it's been
rolled out.
Eventually it will go nationwidewhere these Porsche centres like
we're standing in today becomelike destination Porsche.
That's the big project, isn'tit?
I know you guys, that's kind ofpart of the refit.
Again, what does that mean?
What does that mean for us?
What will change?
SPEAKER_06 (42:51):
It's more visual.
This is a bit of an area We'regoing to have a bigger area for
you so you feel more included.
You know, everyone's includedwith the brand.
And that's new, old, andincluding that classic area to a
higher level is what's needed totake it to another level.
For people who are joining itfor the first time, you know,
(43:12):
you feel you're part of thejourney.
And you definitely
SPEAKER_01 (43:15):
are.
Awesome.
I absolutely love that.
SPEAKER_04 (43:17):
Is it possible to
take us through some of the cars
that we're seeing over there,Wayne?
Yeah.
We've got an interesting littlesample.
There's a couple of dodgy onestowards the right there.
SPEAKER_02 (43:26):
Yeah.
You can take us through theother ones.
They just appeared this morning.
I don't know who brought themin.
So we've got a little rent spot.
Dad's just been in for a coupleof minor oil leaks.
Is that with us?
Yeah.
Gentleman's let me show ittoday.
Yeah, I met him
SPEAKER_04 (43:41):
earlier.
Nice
SPEAKER_02 (43:41):
guy.
Yeah, he's a really nice guy.
I think he's left now.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
He's a guy called Andy, hisfriend.
He contacted me.
I did some work on his GT3.
And then we brought the RennSport in as well.
So we're going to look afterthat for going forward as well.
Next week, we've got the C2 993in yellow.
(44:06):
That car, Mike Betts actuallyoriginally sold.
SPEAKER_04 (44:10):
Oh, really?
SPEAKER_02 (44:11):
So it's a JCT car?
Yeah, it's a JCT car.
So it's got a pivoting checkeredhistory in terms of it's really
well up to after, butunfortunately it was an extra
electric car that set a fire.
Ah, it's that one, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
So it's the right hand, lefthand side was damaged.
It's a new rear bumper.
The bodywork majority of it isoriginal.
(44:33):
It's been repainted.
The customer recently bought thevehicle, brought it to us for us
to look after.
So we're putting a PCM in that, the classic PCM.
Done a bit of a service andgoing through a little bit of a
fault with the sunroof, butnothing major It's a great
little car.
SPEAKER_04 (44:49):
What a strange bit
of history that is, isn't
SPEAKER_02 (44:52):
it?
Yeah, it's great that it's comeback again.
I just love those stories wherethings come back to us.
Yeah.
Then we've got the bright orange996.
I think we'd call that punchy,wouldn't we?
Yeah, yeah.
You can't be shy driving that, can you?
SPEAKER_04 (45:06):
Now, you're telling
me that that is a factory
painted car?
SPEAKER_02 (45:09):
Yeah, yeah, it's
PTS.
I'm not sure of the colour.
Yeah.
SPEAKER_06 (45:13):
It's not golf, it's
too bright, isn't
SPEAKER_02 (45:15):
it?
Yeah, yeah, it's not golf.
Proper punch orange if I that isMichael Betts it's his son's car
he's picked it up he did thegumball he's taken the majority
of the stickers off when he'sbought it and apparently that's
the spec it came with the withthe buckets the cage and
everything wow it was a Russianoligarch or something that
(45:36):
originally specced that car sothat's why it's a little bit
above what anyone else wouldchoose
SPEAKER_04 (45:43):
that's a 996 C4S
orange buckets car page, got
various other mods, doesn't it?
I'm just sort of going throughit just so that the listener can
visualise what they're hearing.
SPEAKER_02 (45:57):
And then on the
classic stand, we've got a
really, really, really nicePrimrose PTS yellow 993 Turbo.
That's an absolutely stunningcar.
I've borrowed that off agentleman who has bought a lot
of new cars off us.
Supercar Simmo, one of oursalesmen, He knows the guy and
(46:20):
managed to get that in for me.
He actually drove it here andparked it in there for me.
I've not driven it yet.
Fingers crossed I'll get to atsome point.
SPEAKER_01 (46:28):
Great drive, great
drive.
Awesome, awesome.
Juxtaposed, I guess, by themanual Carrera T cab at the back
for a bit of modern metal.
SPEAKER_02 (46:36):
Yeah, yeah.
I really like the Carrera T's.
SPEAKER_01 (46:39):
Yeah.
We love them here at Ninewell.
Yeah.
We were chatting to some DNHCersearlier on.
I think the greatest barometeryou can give for the Carrera T
is that Andy B as a, you know,old...
Foddy Doddy.
Yeah, old, I've just realised,yeah.
But yeah, you know, likeair-cooled dude, you know, like
you were absolutely evangelisingover that, which is the biggest
(46:59):
compliment you can give thatcar.
SPEAKER_06 (47:01):
We've got one of our
best customers, big Ferrari
customer, because we had alovely white car, aero kit, T,
and basically when that came toshow me, the blue deck cars,
it's like that just took himback 20 years.
You know, so the visual look ofthat car doesn't have to be the
fastest car.
but it handles amazing and itjust looks like it used to look
(47:22):
so you'll see the T's like thatone there will have probably the
grey decals and the grey mirrorson so we had a white car with
the blue one and you have awooden gear stick on the manual
box takes you back to where weused to be so people still value
that even though they can have arange of other cars at the same
time
SPEAKER_01 (47:38):
sorry I was going to
say so again as journalists can
say that that is an absolutelyfabulous car a really fabulous
car, highlight of the 992, 0.2away from GT lineup.
In terms of sales, they haven'tset the place alight.
You know, why do you think thatis?
SPEAKER_06 (47:59):
So, we were saying
to someone earlier, during 2020,
we had a massive order bank, youknow, with COVID.
Cars were running really, youknow, getting silly money back
for your car.
So, you're running a car for alow value.
Since then, there's been priceincreases that have come around,
basically.
So, we had a new director thatcame into Porsche GB.
She asked for more volume ofcars.
We got more volume.
(48:19):
He's trying to get our balanceof volume, supply and demand.
And we probably just had a bittoo much supply applying to
market, and that's now comingback down to a level where
they've got a better level,basically.
There is some offers out therebecause there's some stock out
there, but when they've gone, itgoes back to as it used to be.
So, yeah, a bit different at theminute.
SPEAKER_01 (48:37):
Okay, yeah,
interesting, interesting
feedback.
I think it's about time weopened up to the floor.
Has anybody got any questions?
It doesn't have to be on thecentre.
We could get geeky with somecars that you want to ask the
experts.
Don't make me pick on someone.
SPEAKER_02 (48:52):
You need Magnus
Walker here.
SPEAKER_01 (48:55):
Excellent.
Alex, pass you over.
SPEAKER_03 (48:58):
Hi, guys.
So, question from me.
If money, no object, whatPorsche would you go for?
I'll
SPEAKER_02 (49:06):
let you answer
SPEAKER_06 (49:06):
that first.
It'd have to be a 918.
I saw one about five years ago, took it out of the showroom, and
it just looked epic.
I was at Donington last week, saw a black one in there, and it
just says as a brand what we canoffer.
It's just a different level, andit didn't look a 12-year-old car
when I looked at it.
It's probably even older thanthat now.
So that is definitely a car thatif you're driving it every day,
(49:29):
it'll feel very, very special.
So that's the reason why.
SPEAKER_02 (49:33):
I could answer that
by just asking you a lot of
questions and what do I have tobuy it for?
Is it every day, is it?
I think ultimately 934 RSR roadspec.
I just think they're a fantasticlooking car.
They sound incredible.
I've driven original 930 turboswith a 4-speed manual and they
(49:55):
are ballistic.
For how little brake horsepowerthey have, they feel as quick as
any modern day car to drivethem.
You're probably not travellingthat fast comparatively, but it
just feels quicker.
It's the feeling you get whenyou drive that car.
So I think the 9 3.4 RSR willjust be on another level.
Unfortunately, I don't have amillion and a half quid for one
(50:16):
of those.
SPEAKER_04 (50:17):
I think that's good
timing that Wayne's picked that,
isn't it?
Because this morning it wentlive, didn't it?
A video on...
Oh, is it tomorrow morning?
Yeah, it's Sunday tomorrow,isn't it?
Well, yeah, it will be liveon...
By the time this comes out.
By the time this comes out, yeah.
Tomorrow morning, 9am or 9.11,what time does it release?
9am, yeah.
9am is a great video on Leedriving a 9.3 over in Belgium.
(50:43):
Fantastic.
SPEAKER_01 (50:44):
Lucky, lucky, lucky
man.
A distinctly above average dayat work.
Fantastic.
Any other questions that we canfire to the team?
Thank you for being brave andgoing first.
SPEAKER_04 (50:57):
There must be some
somewhere.
SPEAKER_01 (50:59):
Excellent.
Please introduce yourself aswell.
Just a quick question to thefour of you.
Which cars do you currently
SPEAKER_06 (51:05):
own and drive?
So today I'm driving up to toScotland today, because we've
got our national golf event, soI'm going up to Loch Lomond
today.
So this weekend, I've got mycandy chest for the weekend, so
one of the sales guys just says, look, you need to go on a proper
route.
So you're not going up themotorway, so we literally go in
Freware, Troon, so I've gotlike, it's four hours to six
(51:27):
hours, but you know what, it'sworth it.
It's in a petrol car, so don'tdrive that every day,
unfortunately.
We've got a company car, that'san electric car, and that's,
that does the job.
That's what it does, gets me towork.
But this will be more fun on theway down there, all the way up
there.
SPEAKER_02 (51:41):
Well, I've got a
company car, which is a VW
Arteon, which is a great A to Bcar.
And then at home in my garage, with the engine in bits
unfortunately at the moment,I've got a 1978 VW Camper.
It's a champagne edition, soit's got very, very 70s stripes.
It's quite a cool thing, butunfortunately the engine let me
(52:02):
down.
So I've got to rebuild that, sothat's in bits.
Currently collecting parts, which are quite hard to come by
for good quality parts thesedays for those engines
SPEAKER_04 (52:11):
I drive that old 78
SC over there.
SPEAKER_01 (52:18):
Yeah.
Excellent.
Yes, I've got the Irish green996 at the back, which is
colloquially termed LittleIrish.
It's kind of the Nine Works workvan, really.
On the way home, back down toDorset, later on it will hit
175k.
It's very much driven, nothidden, in line with our Nine
Works mantra.
And then I've got a 40thanniversary, which is very much
(52:39):
hidden, not driven.
55,000 miles.
And funny, actually, I've justsawned it.
Probably a conversation foranother day to explore on the
podcast.
But this sort of time of yearwhere it goes away, I think I've
done 1,000 miles in it thisyear, which is sacrilege,
really.
It should be far higher.
But I always think maybe Ishould get into something else.
(53:00):
And it's kind of this, the peaksand troughs you have of a
seasonal car, really, I guess.
It's very different to the caryou can drive every day.
And there's always instantgratification as soon as you
jump in Little Irish as a car tobe used all year round.
but I go through this likewinter lull as the car
hibernates in the garage it kindof my enthusiasm for it
hibernates I think is fair tosay and usually it gets to April
(53:21):
it goes back on the road and Ifall in love with it again but
this time of year I always startthinking what's next yeah I
guess so you know like againjust trying to be sensible with
it it's and I've said this onthe podcast before it's almost
too nice for me and what it isand trying to look after myself
for a any day I'll never makemyself rich by any stretch of
(53:43):
the imagination but trying to bevaguely sensible for it but then
you know we're here for a goodtime not a long time and that
kind of goes against the grainin that regard so yeah this time
of year is always a difficultone to be
SPEAKER_04 (53:55):
honest is this an
advert for a 40th anniversary
SPEAKER_01 (54:01):
does anybody want to
buy one it's flopping it comes
with the luggage kit formerowner was the Oasis drummer
which is very timely at themoment so yeah come and have a
chat us I guess you know againit's just one of those I know
this is the thing we constantlyplay don't we in our own mind as
enthusiasts is you know do westick or twist yeah Gus and I
had a wonderful conversationearlier on that actually
(54:22):
sometimes the very best car isthe one you're already sitting
in little Irish probably ticksthat for me but yeah again as a
seasonal car it kind of is itdoes have kind of peaks and
troughs really and should bedriven more with that
SPEAKER_02 (54:36):
I think I think also
I have a lot of times I have
conversations with people whoare looking to to get into
Porsches and classic Porsches.
And it's knowing what to buy inthe first place and how to buy
it.
And I think, for me, you've gotto let your heart lead a little
bit, but also keep your headscrewed on.
(54:56):
You speak to many people who, they're buying a classic 911,
whether it be a 997, an SC, andthey've bought it because
they've fallen in love with thecar.
And then they get it home, getit to their local specialist or
the dealership, and it's abasket case.
Always have your car inspected, get advice beforehand, speak to
(55:17):
guys, you know, get involvedwith Nineworks, get involved
with your dealership, speak tothem, see what they think.
People are always welcome todrop me an email and we can have
a conversation.
And you've really got to doresearch before you go and buy a
classic or any 911.
And ensure that it's thesoundest car you can afford.
(55:39):
And if you're buying that carlove it.
It's a spec that you really wantbut you know there's things
wrong with it.
Make sure you make a plan goingforward how you're going to look
after that car.
SPEAKER_04 (55:49):
Mark, do you sell
any classics here?
SPEAKER_06 (55:51):
The last few years
has changed because the market's
changed really so about fiveyears ago we used to.
Then we slowed down a bitreally.
SPEAKER_04 (55:58):
Do you think that's
going to change with the
expansion of the showroom here?
SPEAKER_06 (56:00):
It will change
slightly and then also if you
think of just the wayelectrification is going there
is always going to be demand fora petrol car.
SPEAKER_04 (56:09):
So it's probably
going going to grow on that
basis yeah
SPEAKER_06 (56:12):
so for us we want to
be more connected with you guys
if you've got a car to servicethem to bring them in to look
after them yeah so for you tocome to us then we'll find other
cars for you basically on thatside you know because we'll have
Mike buying cars at the sametime so it will grow yes
SPEAKER_04 (56:25):
yes yeah you can see
that happening we've definitely
seen that happening down atBournemouth haven't we they're a
classic approved centre as welland they've got quite a few
older classics for sale now soyeah it'll be good to see that
coming here as well
SPEAKER_01 (56:39):
yeah without a doubt
Superb.
Okay, well, look, shall we giveaway some prizes?
Yes.
Yeah, shall we do that, whichMark and Wayne can help out?
Again, there's a couple ofprizes from Porsche Centre
Leeds.
We've got one as well, again, fitting in with Driven Not
Hidden, as we're known for.
We wanted to give somethingaway.
We did initially moot furthesttravelled, but then we realised
(57:00):
we would win that, probably, having come up from the south
coast.
We'd better change that.
SPEAKER_04 (57:05):
Yeah, I think we're
going to go for furthest that
you've...
the most amount of miles thatyou put on your car this year.
So, yeah, anybody got any bignumbers of, you know, have they
done any big trips and, youknow, really piled on the miles?
I think there's got to be a fewaround.
Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01 (57:24):
There's a hand
rising.
What's our first entry?
This is like an auction, butit's just for a T-shirt.
SPEAKER_03 (57:30):
Someone will beat
me, but I bought my 718 GT4
middle of May and in eight weeksput 7,500 miles on it.
Eight weeks?
Yeah, driving to France anddriving around North Wales.
And it's a club sport and it'snot very comfortable.
How's your
SPEAKER_01 (57:48):
back?
I think that car must have beenon like an automotive treadmill
since May.
You just keep going.
That is
SPEAKER_04 (57:55):
pretty epic.
Have you got any risers on that?
So eight weeks of ownership and7,000 miles.
Does anybody get anywhere nearthat?
Well, Alex, I think you take
SPEAKER_01 (58:06):
the prize.
You must have a fuel card aswell, I hope.
Because that is absolutelyinsane.
so
SPEAKER_04 (58:11):
we've got a couple
of money can't buy prizes here
we've got a prototype hat thatunfortunately we didn't get
enough purchases of so wehaven't made any more yet so not
SPEAKER_01 (58:22):
really selling it at
this point Andy
SPEAKER_04 (58:25):
it's a great hat I
love it and also you've got one
of these t-shirts which againwas a prototype with the stuff
on the back where nobody elsehas got that and a little pin as
well so if you want to come upand grab those it's an extra
large so it might swamp you alittle bit but welcome Superb.
Superb.
Very good.
(58:45):
Excellent.
And we've got a couple of hatsto give away.
One of these mugs, which is togo with the new car.
What was that?
The Spirit 70.
Yeah, very much like that.
Very good.
And then the big prize is theExperience Centre.
SPEAKER_02 (59:01):
I think I'll just
choose some people from random.
Go for it, yeah.
See who's actually popped thename in there.
Let's just see where I land.
SPEAKER_04 (59:12):
First prize for a
martini racing hat.
SPEAKER_02 (59:14):
Alex cotterill alex
oh well done alex
SPEAKER_04 (59:25):
Shall we go for
another hat?
Yeah.
What do we call this one?
A head.
A head southwest.
Yeah.
2024.
It sort of reminds me a bit ofold Gustavo.
Yeah, it does, yeah.
The old stripes on there.
Andrew Betteridge.
Andrew Betteridge.
(59:46):
Yeah.
Well played.
Here he comes.
Well played.
Suits you, sir.
Super duper.
SPEAKER_02 (59:51):
And for a mug...
For the mug, Andy Riddick.
I think Andy has just gone.
Oh, has he gone?
Yeah, I'll pull someone elseout.
Reload, yeah.
If he's not here, he's not here.
You missed
SPEAKER_04 (01:00:07):
it.
We've
SPEAKER_02 (01:00:07):
got the
SPEAKER_04 (01:00:07):
cavalry coming in.
Brian Butterworth.
Brian Butterworth.
Well done, Brian.
There's the box there for you aswell.
Enjoy your brew.
Will that be a Yorkshire brewgoing in there?
Lancashire Road.
(01:00:28):
Love it.
SPEAKER_02 (01:00:29):
And the big prize?
The big prize for the singleperson to go to Silverstone and
do the driving experience, JimWalker.
Jim Walker, are you here?
SPEAKER_01 (01:00:45):
Silence.
Is it?
I can see someone pointing,but...
Jim Walker.
No?
Reload.
SPEAKER_02 (01:00:52):
No.
SPEAKER_01 (01:00:53):
Reload.
SPEAKER_04 (01:00:55):
Sorry, Jim.
Don't talk up.
You don't get your prize.
SPEAKER_02 (01:01:01):
Alex Brody.
Ah, Alex.
The doctor.
Oh,
SPEAKER_05 (01:01:06):
no.
Dr.
Alex Brody.
Stay pat.
What
SPEAKER_02 (01:01:13):
does he get?
SPEAKER_04 (01:01:15):
Pick that poster off
the wall.
That's your prize.
SPEAKER_02 (01:01:17):
That's your prize.
SPEAKER_05 (01:01:21):
That's it.
Excellent.
SPEAKER_04 (01:01:23):
Never won anything
in my life
SPEAKER_01 (01:01:24):
before, ever.
Can we just clarify, will Alexget to drive a new product?
Because Alex's 996 failed itsMOT yesterday,
SPEAKER_04 (01:01:34):
so it won't be going
around the track.
You did get a lift, didn't you?
Yeah, I got a lift from JamesTaylor.
Fantastic.
I might have to give James alittle go in the car then.
SPEAKER_01 (01:01:44):
Superb.
yeah thank you well done thanksfor mentioning the mot failure
SPEAKER_05 (01:01:48):
if it doesn't affect
future sales
SPEAKER_01 (01:01:50):
it'll be fine it'll
be fine well done pleasure nice
one superb of course nice onethank thank you alex thank you
to everybody for coming alonglike to create such a warm and
friendly atmosphere today liketypical nine works to be honest
you know we just ask people foreverything we do whether it's an
event or a road trip just turnup with good vibes a little bit
(01:02:12):
of patience and a load ofpositivity as well and i've
really felt that today with theconversations we've had and
again I know people have put insome great miles to get here as
well an honourable mention aswell for D&H Sears Mike and
Simon who went and got us an SDcard because we came all this
way and forgot to bring it torecord this today so thank you
for that and again just you knowthank you so much for making the
(01:02:32):
effort to come out on a Saturdaymorning thanks to Mark and Wayne
and the brilliant team here atPorsche Centre Leeds for showing
us around and again just makingus feel so welcome so everybody
thank you so much thank youthank you guys thanks thanks so
much wayne that's mega megathank you mark nice one dude
thank you amazing that was markand wayne from porsche centre
(01:02:53):
leeds top morning thank youindeed yeah thank you again yeah
really really good stuff love toget back up there at some point
soon
SPEAKER_04 (01:03:02):
yeah can i do a
quick spread the love for for
jct and supplying the coffee andthe pastries uh on the day um i
don't know if you've got tospread the love but that's
that's mine for for this weekyeah yeah yeah
SPEAKER_01 (01:03:15):
happy to go with
that
SPEAKER_04 (01:03:16):
good good
SPEAKER_01 (01:03:17):
yeah it was it was
it was free coffee and it was
good coffee as well moreimportantly yeah so yeah big big
props to sorting that out for usgood uh should we do gem of the
week yep gem of the week i'mstaying with turbo s andy b
SPEAKER_04 (01:03:31):
are you
SPEAKER_01 (01:03:31):
yeah it's a loose
theme of today it's
SPEAKER_04 (01:03:33):
not that white one
that was at leeds
SPEAKER_01 (01:03:36):
was it no but you
know what it was yes that was a
turbo 50 that was a turbo 50 andthat is up for like slap bang on
200 200 notes yeah really goodin really good really different
didn't have the
SPEAKER_04 (01:03:47):
roundel on the door
which is a great move and I
think the turbo script andeverything was in a sort of
darky grey or maybe even a goldwas it possibly yeah
SPEAKER_01 (01:03:58):
it's very different
a lot of the examples on the
used market currently are inthat adventuring green similar
to the press car that we drovethere's a lot of those there's
certainly none that look likethat yeah JCT spec car if you
like which is still likedelivery miles but no it's not
that because that car isn't onthe numbers marketplace it's not
(01:04:18):
so yeah I've gone do you knowwhat you know that is a 200k car
these days the brand new turbo swell if you went for a 911.1
turbo s yeah which is say whatjust over 10 years old now
nobody and I mean nobody hasever jumped out of that car and
said that is not fast enoughbelieve me that is a true guided
(01:04:38):
missile and it's still of thatera where just everything
everything goes on the turbo sspec wise you just basically at
that point choose your yourcolor and interior trim options
it really is that it really isthat comprehensive so that's a
560 horsepower rocket ship matedto seven speed pdk it's in
guards red all all guards redcars look fast don't they do
(01:05:03):
let's be honest um what'sinteresting so it's turbo s so
it's got the usual uhrecruitment of um like pccbs
heated sports seats it's gotabsolutely everything but what's
really interesting about thiscar is it doesn't have the turbo
s center locks it's got fivelugs which as we well know on
this podcast means it's roadtrip friendly and i think it
(01:05:26):
looks absolutely sensational itreminds me of a press car i
drove in 2013 when the turbocame out that was in that exact
spec and we took it around pariswith the magazine headline turbo
triumph and it's it's yeah thatspec it's done 45 000 mile so
not a lot really consideringit's like just over 10 years old
(01:05:49):
it comes with harbour cars triedand tested 12 month in-house
warranty but by themselves not athird party and it's up for
£72,000 so by the time you buythree exactly that by the time
you spec'd up a Turbo S youcould have three of those and
honestly you won't get out ofthat car and say it doesn't lack
(01:06:11):
presence because it's got theturbo wide spec body and And you
won't say it isn't fast enoughwith 560 horsepower and a 0-62
time of just over three seconds.
It's an unbelievable amount ofcar, that.
72k at Harbour Cars.
Take a look on the NomadsMarketplace.
Barging.
SPEAKER_04 (01:06:31):
Excellent.
Talking of buying cars, shouldwe talk about our new little,
what should we call it?
I don't know what we should callit.
It's the Buying Boots campaign, isn't it?
The Buying Boots campaign.
Well said.
Yes.
SPEAKER_01 (01:06:45):
It bbc very good
very good
SPEAKER_04 (01:06:49):
our friend craig
justice has come up with a
lovely t-shirt design which isstrapping on your buying boots
um And if you buy a car fromthe, or bought a car from the
Nineworks marketplace in thelast couple of years, if your
purchase has been guided by thatcar being advertised on the
(01:07:10):
marketplace or guided by itbeing featured in one of our
YouTube videos talked about inthe podcast, you feel that it's
come your way because of that, then do give us a shout.
You're entitled to a free ofcharge t-shirt with, um, lovely
(01:07:33):
little graphic on the front, little man buying boots, man
running with his bag of cash.
SPEAKER_01 (01:07:39):
It's such a good
drawing.
It's such a great little designfor Mr.
Justice sketch.
And it's a money can't buyt-shirt, which is always really
cool.
Yeah.
I believe I'm entitled to one.
SPEAKER_04 (01:07:49):
You are.
Yeah.
Just scraping there.
SPEAKER_01 (01:07:51):
Scraping in there
for the Paragon purchase.
Yeah.
But, um, yeah, exactly.
As you said, Andy, you know, if,if any of our, uh, If any of our
editorial insight has justhelped push you in the direction
of a great car on the NineworksMarketplace, we just want to say
a little thanks by sending youout a free of charge quality
t-shirt.
SPEAKER_04 (01:08:11):
Yeah.
Cementing that idea that theNineworks Marketplace is the,
you know, you feel comfortablebuying from there.
Yeah.
It's the sign of quality.
SPEAKER_01 (01:08:21):
Yeah.
Which we've had some lovelyfeedback so far.
We have, yeah.
In terms of, yeah, likeanecdotal from people buying
cars from the dealers on themarketplace and what that's
meant to them.
So it's been really nice to see.
And again, exactly as you said,Andy, just kind of crystallizes
what we're trying to achievewith that marketplace and how it
differs from quite literallyanything else out there.
SPEAKER_04 (01:08:43):
Yeah.
Allowing people to be confidentin their purchase.
SPEAKER_01 (01:08:47):
Yes.
Yeah.
So if somebody thinks, oh, thatis definitely, I fall into that
category.
I've bought a car.
What do they need to do?
SPEAKER_04 (01:08:55):
Send an email to
hello at nineworks.co.uk.
saying which car you've bought, where you bought it from.
pop in your t-shirt size and uhyeah a little quote of why you
bought it and how you feltconfident about buying it from
somebody on the marketplace
SPEAKER_01 (01:09:12):
yeah yeah and we'll
ratify that with the dealers
yeah at their end as wellabsolutely if not we're gonna be
uh bang out of business bymonday we're clothing britain
love it
SPEAKER_04 (01:09:27):
excellent good okay
i'll give you an update on the
dnhc a collective update I'vekept it local to Leeds.
So I've got three new membersthat are up around the area.
First off is Oliver Beavis, whois based in Leeds.
I'm not sure if you were thereon the weekend.
(01:09:51):

red.
Yeah, had it just a month andhe's loving it.
SPEAKER_05 (01:10:02):
Beautiful.
SPEAKER_04 (01:10:04):
Yeah, I think he was
there.
No, he couldn't make it.
He couldn't make it,unfortunately.
I think he had some family thinggoing on.
But yeah, second up is SteveThompson, who is based in
Warwickshire, so not too faraway.
Currently, Or
SPEAKER_01 (01:10:21):

Leeds.
Well,
SPEAKER_04 (01:10:23):

north of here, isn't it?
It's on the way.
I
SPEAKER_05 (01:10:29):
love
SPEAKER_04 (01:10:29):
it.
Give me a bit of bandwidth.
SPEAKER_01 (01:10:32):
Give me a bit of
bandwidth.
True Costa del South Coast.
Yeah, it is, isn't it?
Yeah.
SPEAKER_04 (01:10:36):
Currently driving a
Tesla Model Y in brackets, I
know.
But he...
has been swayed recently i thinkhe's uh i think he said he's
he's coming up to 50 and decidedthat it's about time that he
bought a porsche um has beenlooking at 911s looked at uh gts
(01:11:00):
four liter cayman um but foundall of those a bit of a stretch
at the moment he's still gotkids hanging around needing to
be paid for for college andstuff like that
SPEAKER_01 (01:11:09):
biff them off steve
yeah biff them off
SPEAKER_04 (01:11:12):
i think that's what
his brother-in-law boasts uh
he's got a 911 Carrera Ford GTSso he's always making comments
to Steve but Steve's decided togo for a Cayman style edition he
has seen one of those buying itnew and very much looking
(01:11:32):
forward to picking that up Iwonder if he's picked that up by
now actually be interesting tosee what he thinks about
SPEAKER_01 (01:11:39):
that's going to be
going from a Tesla
SPEAKER_04 (01:11:42):
yeah
SPEAKER_01 (01:11:42):
into a Cayman style
edition that is going to be an
incredible experience that'sgoing to be like being able to
see for the first time I thinkyou know in terms of tactility
and and how everything justengagement oh wow
congratulations Steve and that'sthat's just to confirm that
Steve in in Warwickshire inYorkshire yeah
SPEAKER_04 (01:12:02):
not in Yorkshire no
north north yeah it's on the way
on the way near it is same timezone to be fair okay I'm going
where was the other one that Iwas going to do today oh Oh,
yeah, this is nowhere near.
I thought I had three lined upin up north.
Oliver, Steve.
(01:12:22):
Right.
OK.
I really bugged this up.
SPEAKER_01 (01:12:25):
I love it.
It's great.
SPEAKER_04 (01:12:27):
