Speaker 1 (00:08):
welcome everyone to
today's show.
A boomer and a gen x arewalking to a bar and we are not
being brought to you today atthe rabbit hole studio, because
we're on the road and, as bobbylikes to put it, we're on the
rabbit run, and my name is janeburt, my co-host is my daughter,
(00:31):
bobby, and bobby is in iowa andI am in georgia.
So, uh, we're still coming toyou every week just trying to
stay on it, and it's colder thanheck down here.
Bobbi, what's it doing in Iowa?
Speaker 3 (00:49):
I doubt that it's as
cold down there as it is up here
.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
You might want to
check today's high and low,
because I think it was as cold,if not colder, down here.
It was crazy man.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Crazy, oh, I guess we
got up to 33 today.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
We had some man Crazy
, oh, I guess we got up to 33
today, we had some sunshine, ahWell, anyway, we have a pretty
good topic for you today thatwe're going to do a little
reminiscing on, because I thinkwe come from two different eras
of movies, different eras ofmovies, and we thought we would
(01:36):
go ahead and talk about the ourtop 10 list of the funniest
movies of all time.
What do you think about thattopic, bobby?
That sounds good, yeah, so, um,kind of putting you on the spot
, because I gave you a littlebit of warning, but not very
much.
That that's what the topic wasgoing to be.
And I'm going to start outbecause, uh, dr domain and I
watched a movie the other nightand, uh, it reminded me of one
(02:00):
of the funniest movies and and Idon't think it got a lot of
publicity, but it was calledbest in show- and it was good
and it was about the dog shows, and I never laughed so hard in
my life, it was funnier thanheck.
(02:20):
Well then, just the other nightwe're watching another show that
is comparable to it, I wouldsay, or kind of along the same
theme, or you know laugh line, Iguess is Cook Off, and it's got
Melissa McCarthy and you knowseveral other people in it, and
(02:41):
it was along the same lines andjust silly dry humor that you
look at people, and somehow thatmovie depicted what goes on in
my mind when I'm looking atcertain people and they're
talking and I just want to say,oh, my goodness, are you kidding
me?
Speaker 3 (03:01):
so I remember when,
uh when best in show came out,
there was a lot of people whoactually thought it was like a
documentary movie about whatwent on during those dog shows
and stuff.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Well, I think it kind
of was only on the funnier side
, I mean, because people getpretty serious about that stuff,
right, I mean nationalchampionships and they travel
all over to be, know, participants in these dog shows
and uh, I don't know how muchmoney is involved in them, but
just the prestige of winning, right, right.
(03:36):
So it was.
It was hilarious for me anyway, and that was an old one, I
think that was, uh, gosh, whatwas the date on that one?
I don't even remember now.
Now I think it was early 2000s.
Was it that late?
Because I don't know, I thoughtit was earlier, I think it was
Okay, so that would have been onour list for me anyway, and I'm
(03:59):
hoping that our listeners arekind of thinking back now and
saying what was the funniestmovie?
And was it just recently, orwas it?
You know an old movie that youremember?
So, bobby, what's one of yours?
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Well, I'll start with
, like my older movies and you
might be surprised with some ofthese so one that would not be
made today, that's for sure.
But one of my favorite comediesis blazing saddle oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
That was on my list
too.
That one was so politicallyincorrect it wasn't even funny.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Oh, mel Brooks, I
mean he's got, he's got.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
just, you know that
that talent for for taking you
know something that's not reallyfunny and making it hilarious,
yeah, and things that you'reabsolutely right that you know
back in the day, because I Ithink that one came out um gosh,
was that 80s, uh, but I thinkit was even earlier than that,
(05:04):
was it?
So we, I think it was 74, holycow.
So, just thinking back on thatone, I just remember watching it
and going.
You know they said that oh mygosh, I can't believe it.
You know, because they hit race, they hit gender, they hit
(05:25):
sexuality, they hit religion, religion, they had everything on
that and you're right, that onewas super funny.
Uh, I really liked that one.
Uh, one of another one that'son my list is I don't know if
you've seen it bobby anchormanyes, I have seen that will
ferrell.
And yeah, that one was kind of aspoof too about how serious
(05:49):
these people take themselves andhow ridiculous they can
sometimes be.
And what was interesting tooabout that one and I've seen
this kind of in I don't knowwhat you would call them
corporate cliques is they kindof had their own little posse
together followed each otheraround and was the butt of
somebody's joke, or else theywere the stick man for the joke
(06:13):
yeah, it was almost like highschool, but it's for adults yeah
, yeah and uh.
Then, um, oh gosh, can't.
Uh, was it christina applegatethat played the girlfriend?
She did a good job, she did areally good job on that and she
was just as dry and sometimes itwas just so uncomfortable just
(06:37):
the things they said and the waythey acted.
It was just, it was almostuncomfortable for you to even
watch it.
Yeah, what's another one foryou, bob?
Speaker 3 (06:47):
um well, I'll go
along the will ferrell line and
um one of my top ones isactually step brothers step
brothers was a good one too.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
That one was uh gosh,
I'm, I was gonna look at that
and see um, when was that done?
That was done in 88, 2008, 2008.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Um, yeah, that was
pretty funny too.
What was the best part of thatmovie?
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Oh man, when they
were, uh, when they were
fighting, when they every timethey would fight, but especially
when they were fighting in thefront yard.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
That was funny.
That was really funny.
Um, let's see dr domain.
I know he's sitting here.
He set his mic aside.
He pushed it aside because hedidn't want to talk tonight, but
, um, we're going to make himtalk anyway.
Dr domain, do you have?
Oh, I was looking at atanchorman ron, burgundy 2004.
(07:49):
Oh my goodness, it was just sofunny.
And there were there were somegood actors in that uh movie
christina applegate as veronica,uh, corning stone, I think it
was.
So, yeah, anyway, um, dr domain, what would be one of the
funniest movies of all time thatyou remember?
Speaker 2 (08:16):
uh, there were a lot
of them.
I would say I'd go with theclassics, so probably the jerk
with steve martin the jerk wasgood.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
That was a good one.
The Jerk was good.
That was a good one.
Yeah, yeah, that was prettyfunny.
Most people listening I don'tknow if you're as old as me and
you're a boomer, you probablyremember this.
But Monty Python and the HolyGrail.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Oh, that's one of my
top ones too, oh gosh.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Man.
They were so ahead of theirtime on that movie.
They were Because a lot of itjust went over our heads.
It was like, what is what?
What did that mean exactly?
And and now you look back on itand you go, oh my gosh, that's
crazy how they it's almost likethey forecasted the future yeah,
(09:01):
I mean, that movie is onereason why I won't let the kids
get a rabbit, that's for sure.
I don't know if you remember thehorses and they had the
coconuts.
Oops, they had the coconutswhere they were making the noise
of the horses.
Yeah, what's another one foryou, Doc.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
I can't really think
of any good ones lately.
I mean, the things that come tomind are movies like the old
Saturday Night Live.
Skits were funny.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Yeah, the old ones.
I agree with that.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
I mean, there's a lot
of good quotes from movies, but
the movies themselves, yeah, Ijust can't think of anything
back when eddie murphy and um,yeah, some of those guys were on
the belushi yeah, those that, those were the the best ones how
about dr domain?
Speaker 3 (09:48):
did you like the
movie space balls?
Oh, that was a great one.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
It's a classic,
that's one I never saw.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yeah, blazing what
you know you never saw, yeah,
you mentioned blazing saddlestoo.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
I think mel brooks is
a genius when it comes to that
yeah, so I can't believe you'venever seen space balls.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
I, I don't recall
that movie at all, but you know,
you guys are good atremembering scenes and what was
said and who was in them, andscenes and what was said and who
was in them, and my whole brainis nothing but junk in and junk
out because it's like.
It's like, once I've watched it,people go have you seen it?
And I go I don't think so and Isit down to watch it not, and
(10:24):
the second it starts I go I'veseen this before, you know, so
I'm kind of a cheap date, it'slike have I seen this before?
Speaker 3 (10:32):
I don't know well,
and a lot of times, me and my
friends, we communicate solelythrough movie quotes, so yeah,
and see, I can't.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Uh, dr domain has
made comments to me before where
he'll go.
Oh, remember this, you knowthis saying, or he'll say it.
You know he'll have some sillysaying and then he'll go do you
remember that in that movie, whatever that movie was, you
know, and he'll name it.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
I'm like how do you
remember lines, what?
They're classic movies.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
They're moved,
they're lines that everyone
knows but I don't, I just don'tremember any lines at all.
You know and, and, and he'slike make my day.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
You don't know what
movie that was.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
I remember Clint
Eastwood.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
See you remember some
of it.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Who was that?
Dirty Harry?
Yeah, okay.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
But or or the other.
Uh, the other one the other oneum the, I'm so hungry I could
eat the ass and out of a deadrhino.
I don't know what that is,that's a classic line.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
What movie is that?
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Point Break?
Never saw it.
Yeah, point Break, I think, iswhat it's called.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Never even heard of
it.
See, I'm so On all the good.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Westerns, there are a
lot of good lines.
You got to pull your pistol orwhistle Dixie.
You know all the good lines.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Is that like John
Wayne or something?
Yeah, something like that.
Yeah, I thought his was likewhat was it?
Well, Cowboy.
I don't even.
That's as far as I can go.
That's as far as I've gotten.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
How about do you have
any of, like you know, like
Chris Farley movies Like myfavorite?
Speaker 1 (12:14):
one is Tommy Boy.
Never saw it.
I know I wanted to but I neversaw it.
I know you're.
Right now bobby is like on thefloor rubbing her eyes and kind
of going crazy because she'slike my mom never, I mean chris
Farley and David Spade.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
They were like the
comedy duo you know, for a long
time.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Yeah, but I and I
wanted to see it.
I remember the name of it and Iremember that they were in it,
but I do not.
I did not get to see it.
Was it a good one?
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Yeah, vacations,
another one.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah,
there's some great lines in
that one too.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Dad says I'm the best
kisser.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
What See?
How do you remember lines Idon't know?
Speaker 1 (13:01):
The only one I
remember was Cousin Eddie, who
said shitter's full, you know, and he's out there dumping the
motor, the campers.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Speaking of our
shitter's full, dumping the
motor, the campers.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
speaking of our
shitters full, you do not want
to go in there was thatsomething that you were taking
off tomorrow for tybee islandand going on down south to
florida and and for a little bit?
And uh, we were talking aboutthat today because we're taking
the motor home.
Anyway, I digress.
(13:36):
Bridesmaids, oh, I love thatmovie.
I mean, that one was reallyfunny.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Melissa.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
McCartney is one of
my favorite, or McCarthy.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
She's freaking
amazing.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
She is, she is, and I
mean I don't know anybody that
you know she.
I mean she's just consistent,right?
Speaker 3 (13:59):
yeah, did you say
airplane?
Uh no, I did.
That is a good one.
That's like, I think, thenumber one online that people
have said is the top comedymovie of all time yeah, airplane
was a classic.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
We can start the show
back up again yeah, okay.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
So what's one more
that you think everyone would
know, even me?
Speaker 3 (14:21):
funny super troopers
three stooges oh, I love the
three stooges I have.
Oh yeah, three stooges harrycurly mill.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Last name was fine dr
, fine dr.
Who is he uh?
Dr howard dr howard, dr, fine, yeah, we watched a lot of three
stooges.
Uh, bobby's dad was a bigstooges fan and every time you
turn around we were watchingsome movie or he had T-shirts
(14:54):
and it was crazy.
He was a big.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Stooges fan.
I love the lawyers.
Do we cheat them, and how?
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Yeah, which sounds
about right too, doesn't it?
Speaker 3 (15:06):
One more so did you
hear what I said of the super
troopers?
You've seen that.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Is that the one?
And dr domain is shaking hishead.
Yes, is that the one where theywear short, real short shorts?
The cops were and no, no, okayyou're thinking of reno 911?
Speaker 3 (15:26):
that's a tv show.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Yeah, yeah sorry, I
can't keep a movie different
from a show Anyway.
So one more Dr Domain, one more.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Some of the Robin
Williams movies were pretty good
.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
But he had some
serious ones too.
He did, I just.
I can't think of anything offthe top of my head.
I'm thinking of skits and shortstories, short movies and stuff
like that.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
I'm kind of thinking
of Mrs Doubtfire, oh yeah.
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
But all the Monty
Python ones were good.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
Home Alone was good.
Yeah, you know Christmas storyHome Alone.
Oh, with that.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
Bobby, what was the
Mel?
No, it wasn't Mel, it was MontyPython, where the big guy goes
into the restaurant and the hugefat guy and the Waiter's trying
to convince him.
Just one more, it's Wafatine.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
See.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
I can't remember
lines.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
How you feeling, sir,
better get a bucket.
It starts throwing upeverywhere.
I love this.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Yeah, it was just one
more bite um, I think it was
the meaning of life so Imentioned earlier the christmas
story.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
We I made the kids
every year sit down and watch
three movies, which was atchristmas, so it was a christmas
story, christmas story awonderful life a wonderful life.
And then miracle on what?
Is it?
42nd street or 32nd?
Yeah 34th street or whateveranyway they had to watch those
(17:09):
but it was fun.
But I think with ralphie andhis dad and mom I thought I
think they were just funny, super fun that was pretty
classic, and some of the stuffthat they did, you know I think
of.
We stuck our tongues on poles inthe wintertime and you know, oh
yeah, we did stupid stuff likethat too.
And just the anticipation thatthis poor kid had to get his.
(17:33):
What was it?
His Red Ryder gun, bb gun, yeah.
So, anyway, you're going toshoot your eye out, that's right
, you're gonna put get an eyeout, kid.
And and then the santa scene.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Yeah, that was cool
too well, my favorite of that
was ralphie's little brother hadthat snowsuit.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Oh yeah, his arms
were legs in he looked like the
stay puff marshmallow man.
Yeah, the kid couldn't, andthen he had to go to the
bathroom.
So well, I hope this broughtback some memories for people
and they think about thelaughter and the fun that
they've had at the movies orwatching movies, and I think
(18:15):
that's probably all that we'regoing to have today.
Bobby, other than I havenoticed that our base for our
