Magic Barclay (00:42):
Welcome back to a Magical Life.
I'm your host, magic Barclay, and this month I wanna talk to
you about organization.
Why is it important?
What can it do for your life, particularly your health.
In fact, it can help in allthree aspects of health, wealth,
and weight loss.

(01:03):
So let's dive in Quick.
Shout out to a show that Iwatched on Netflix called The
Home Edit.
Now if you wanna check out theseladies, they are fantastic, and
their website is the homeedit.com.
The reason I'm giving them ashout out is because when they
do a home edit, they take intoaccount, say for a pantry, edit

(01:28):
healthy lifestyles, and this issomething we all need to be
doing.
So let's start with health.
Whether you are takingsupplements, medications,
whether you are healthy eating, whether you are growing your
permaculture garden and it'sfarm to plate, no matter what

(01:49):
you are doing for your healthand on what level you need
organization.
Now, that may mean for food thatyou do a shop and chop twice a
week.
So the food is still healthy, but it's cut up.
You've got your meal prep done.
You may get it done once a weekso that you're not buying

(02:09):
takeaways while you're at workor on the road or surviving from
coffees'cause they're easy toget.
You've got fresh produce at handand ready to go.
Now I highly suggest that youstore things in glass, and the
reason being, when you storethings in plastic, they sweat,

(02:30):
the plastic can leach into yourfood.
It just makes things go off alot quicker.
Whereas in glass, things stayfresher.
Clear glass containers withlockable ball lids helps you see
everything you have so you'renot buying.
carrots for the third time, andthen you end up with a whole lot
of carrots that you didn't knowwere there.

(02:53):
Now this glass system works formushrooms as well, keeps'em a
lot fresher for your brassicas, keeps them crispy in the stalks.
So really I suggest that youinvest in some good glass
containers for your fridge.
Less wastage, less cost, andhealthier food available.

(03:14):
So there's organizing by shopand chop.
There's also organizing byhaving a good system in your dry
stores, in your pantry, and thatis rotating stock.
Now, when you go to thesupermarket, they get taught to
do this when they're stackingthe shelves.
Many of us didn't get taught todo this when stacking our

(03:35):
pantry, and that is you have alllabels facing out You have
things that are more perishableor closer to their use by date
at the front.
Now, this way, you are rotatingyour stock again, less waste,
less cost, and easier for you tokeep up your healthier habits
Now.

(03:56):
One downfall here.
Obviously anything stored in acan should be used minimally,
and that is because the cannedlinings can be very toxic.
So you know for sure have yourcanned soups that your backup
stock is, I guess, or cannedbeans or whatever it is, but use

(04:16):
them to a minimum.
Now when we come to actuallyorganizing our menu.
My family have a menu on thefridge.
Once a week midweek, we all goto the fridge and we have a
meeting about next week's menu.
This helps all of us do ourshopping for it.

(04:37):
It helps us.
Plan, when we're going outsideto pick the foods for it, it
helps us know what's going on.
If I'm late home, someone elsecan start the cooking.
They know the meal that's goingto happen.
We have recipe books, which arein a very ordered fashion on the
bookshelf.
So everyone knows that soups andstarters will be on the left and

(05:01):
mains will be in the middle.
And desserts if we are going tocook them, will be on the right
hand side.
Compilation books will be at theend of that.
So, you know, the good oldwomen's weekly books that I've
been collecting all my life havetheir, their places I used to
order them in.
Brands.
So the Women's Weekly bookswould all be together.

(05:24):
The smaller books would all betogether.
I'd order them by size, but nowI order them by the timing that
we're going to eat things.
So it makes it easy foreveryone.
When you do your weekly menu, get input from everyone in your
household.
There is no point, and I learnedthis the hard way when my kids

(05:48):
were little.
There is no point in cookingfour separate meals every single
meal.
Now, I had fussy eaters both onthe autism spectrum, so someone
would only eat white food, someone would only eat green
food.
You know, someone else wouldonly eat.
Food, uh, animal, animalproducts, you know, that kind of

(06:09):
thing.
So make sure everyone has input.
It's really important for thebuy-in so that you can enjoy
your meals, support your health, and have some bonus family time.
Our dinner meal is alwaystogether, and if it's not, it's

(06:29):
because I'm out somewhere, but.
We try and make sure there'ssome family time.
We do a lunch or something thatday instead.
So really utilize that familymeal time to build bonds, to
strengthen bonds, to create thatconnectivity, to really share

(06:49):
that happy time over meals, because that is exactly what
meals used to do.
It was a time to bring thefamily together.
We've lost that in ourconvenient lifestyles.
You know, we don't spend timewith our family all the time, so
a meal a day, if you can do it,I highly suggest it.

(07:13):
So that's your food Now,medications and supplements,
again, rotate your stock.
Make sure you are using what isgoing to expire sooner.
Make sure that you have a list.
Many people who still seedoctors will go doctor shopping,
and that doctor doesn't knowwhat you're on.

(07:34):
So make sure you have a fulllist with you of what you take
when you take it.
Same with your supplements.
Now, I ended up in hospital lastyear and.
I have a list of supplementswith me at all times in my purse
and the timing that I'm takingthem, and I'm telling you, that

(07:55):
was a heck of a lot easier thanme trying to remember all the
different things I was doing atthe different times of the day
at that time to be able to givethe hospital my list.
Did they know what half of itwas?
No.
Did they need to?
No, but they've got a computer.
They can look it up.
So carry that list with you incase of emergency, but it also

(08:17):
helps you be organized, youknow, when things are, those
little pill cases are great.
I sort my supplements once aweek.
I know what's morning, what'safternoon, what's evening.
I move things from one case to asmaller case to carry with me
each day.
So if I'm out at lunchtime, Iknow I've gotta take X, Y, Z

(08:41):
with me and you know, make iteasy for yourself.
Same with your medications.
Okay?
So that's your health now, yourwealth.
The same thing happens.
Believe it or not, you have youreveryday savings account and
then you can have a maximizeraccount or a long-term savings

(09:05):
account and slip money into thatwhen you can.
That's your rainy day fund.
Right?
Right.
It also helps you build yourwealth and if you are organized
that every single pay, some ofthat goes into the rainy day
fund, you'll be better off inthe long run.
Same as if you've got amortgage, you can pay it off

(09:26):
sooner.
Keep taking extra out.
Maybe tighten the, the pursestrings, each payday so that you
can pay off that.
Same with loans.
Get rid of those as quickly asyou can.
Being organized and having asystem so that every payday and
sometimes you can even automatethese things, right, so that

(09:48):
every payday that is happeningfor you will help you.
Now, when it comes to weightloss, same thing happens.
If you don't know what you aregoing to be eating, how do you
know if it's going to help youwith your weight loss journey?
I don't take spur of the momentdecisions.

(10:09):
I've been on the weight lossrollercoaster now for 40 years.
I have learned I need to beorganized, and if it's not on
the plan, it's not going to beeaten.
I organize my exercise.
I put that into my diary.
I block out time.
My clients know when they log onto book a session onto my

(10:33):
booking system.
If it says health, that's mytimeout.
You can't, you can't book that.
It's blocked out and it meansI'm usually in the gym somewhere
or out on a farm, going on awalk or whatever it is I'm doing
that day for my exercise.
So you must schedule thesethings.

(10:54):
It really comes down toorganization being key.
Whether it's your wardrobe,whether it's your pantry,
whether it's your dishes, youknow, whether it's your car,
your car, glove box needs to beorganized, whether it's your
diary.
So that you know what'shappening each day.

(11:16):
All of this will help you withyour health, your wealth, and
your weight loss.
