The Sudarium of Oviedo is a blood stained piece of linen that tradition says is the cloth placed over the face of Jesus as referenced in the New Testament. The sudarium has interesting possible connections to the Shroud of Turin. The principal objection to the authenticity of the shroud is its dating. The shroud has been carbon dated to the Middle Ages. However, the sudarium has a known history that goes back into antiquity. If the sudarium and the shroud have a common origin, then the Shroud of Turin may be much older than its carbon-14 tests suggest.
