SPEAKER_01 (00:08):
I'm Jeff Fallon
Wolf.
This is The World Gone Mad.
Another Monday fallout where theweekend's lives meet Monday's
reality.
Let's talk about what happenedin the last 48 hours.
No BS, no spin, no fake talkingpoints.
Here we go.
(00:29):
I'd like to state something upfront.
This is very important, so allthe listeners please pay
attention.
I'm not minimizing these tragicevents that happened in the last
48 hours.
Two extremely significant anddevastating shooting incidents
occurred on separate continents.
(00:50):
A mass shooting at BrownUniversity in the United States
and a terrorist attack during aHanukkah celebration at Bondi
Beach in Australia.
Those are extremely important totalk about.
However, this episode I need totalk about the third tragic
(01:10):
event that happened.
And I'm talking about this for areason.
This will become clear by theend of this episode.
So please indulge me.
I got a slight cough.
I'm pissed off.
It's the holidays, and I'm surenobody's going to be listening
to this episode because you guysare busy.
So if one or two of you listen,it would be great.
(01:32):
If one of you responded, thatwould be even better because
this is important.
Rob Reiner and his wife,Michelle Reiner, were murdered.
Most of you probably alreadyknow this.
Maybe a few don't.
A husband and wife killedviolently.
(01:53):
There's no way to soften that.
There's no way to dress it up.
Two people are dead.
A home became a crime scene.
A family was shattered in themost brutal way possible.
This is the kind of event thatshould stop a country in its
tracks.
Not because of celebrity, notbecause of politics, but because
(02:18):
of the sheer human devastationof it.
Rob Reiner was a household namelong before anyone cared what he
thought about politics.
He was part of American culturefor decades.
Whether you liked him or not, hemade his mark big time.
He came into millions of homesas an actor on All in the
(02:41):
Family.
That show did not justentertain.
It challenged, it pushed.
It reflected the country back atitself at a time when television
actually did that.
As a filmmaker, Rob Ryder helpedcreate movies that became
cultural touchstones.
This is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me,The Princess Bride, When Harry
(03:06):
Met Sally, A Few Good Men.
Some of these titles maysurprise some of you.
Those films were not politicalscreeds.
They were stories.
They were characters.
They were moments that peoplecarried with them.
Entire generations can quotethem.
(03:27):
Entire careers were launchedbecause of these projects and
movies.
That kind of cultural impactdoes not disappear because
someone later became outspoken.
And Michelle Reiner matteredjust as much.
She was not a name peoplerecognized from a movie poster,
but she was a creative force inher own right.
(03:49):
She was an accomplishedphotographer whose work focused
on people and human stories.
Her photography was aboutconnection, about seeing people
as people.
She was deeply involved inhumanitarian and philanthropic
efforts, particularly causesinvolving children, global
health, and social justice.
(04:11):
Michelle lived a life groundedin empathy and purpose, not
performative, not loud, real.
Together, Rob and MichelleReiner built a life over
decades, a marriage, apartnership, a shared commitment
to creativity and causes largerthan themselves.
(04:32):
And it ended in violence.
That's the part that should hithardest.
Not the headlines, not thepolitics, the violence.
This was not a car accident.
This was not illness.
This was not the quiet passingof someone of old age.
(04:53):
This was murder.
The kind of ending that leavespermanent damage behind to
families, to everyone who knewthem, to anyone capable of
imagining that level of loss.
This is the moment where societyis supposed to pause, where the
noise drops, where argumentsstop, where basic humanity takes
(05:20):
over.
Because no matter who you votedfor, no matter what side of the
aisle you're on, no matter howmuch you agreed or disagreed
with Rob Reiner and his wife'sviews, two people were killed.
A husband and a wife.
That's the tragedy.
That's the gravity.
(05:41):
That's the line that shouldnever be crossed.
Now, as the investigationcontinues, police have charged
Rob and Michelle's son Nick withtheir murders.
Nick Reiner is being held as thelegal process moves forward.
The bail that's set at 4 millionis now revoked.
That's where the facts stand.
(06:02):
This is an active investigation.
Details are still emerging.
These are questions that havenot yet been answered.
What is clear is this two peopleare dead.
A family has been shattered, andthe legal system is now in
motion.
At the same time, tributes havecontinued to pour in about
(06:22):
people's feelings for Rob andMichelle Reiner.
People from across theentertainment world, from film
and television, from behind thecamera, and politicians, all
walks of life, people in frontof it, people behind it, they've
spoken about Rob and MichelleReiner's impact.
I'm going to tell you about someof them if you haven't read all
of them.
Listen up.
From Governor Gavin Newsom,Jennifer and I are heartbroken
(06:45):
by the tragic loss of Rob Reinerand Michelle Singer-Reiner.
Former President Barack Obama,Michelle and I are heartbroken
by the tragic passing of RobReiner and his beloved wife,
Michelle.
Rob's achievements in film andtelevision gave us some of our
most cherished stories onscreen.
Beneath all of these stories wasa deep belief in the goodness of
(07:09):
people and a lifelong commitmentto putting that belief into
action.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Basswrote: This is a devastating
loss for our city and ourcountry.
Stephen King, noted writer, I'mhorrified and saddened by the
death of Rob Reiner andMichelle.
Wonderful friend, politicalally, brilliant filmmaker.
(07:32):
Rest in peace, Rob.
You always stood by me.
Kathy Bates, actress.
I'm horrified hearing thisterrible news.
Absolutely devastated.
I loved Rob.
He was brilliant and kind.
He changed the course of mylife.
Ron Howard, child actor,brilliant director.
Our careers and livesintersected often, he says.
(07:54):
He was a superlative filmmaker,a supportive colleague, and a
dedicated citizen.
Rob will be missed on so manylevels.
Josh Gadd, he was one of thegreatest directors of our time.
He was a friend.
Rob Reiner and his wife,Michelle, were two of the most
kind and caring souls you couldever imagine.
Jamie Lee Curtis and herhusband, Christopher Guest.
(08:16):
Christopher and I are numb andsad and shocked about the
violent, tragic deaths of ourdear friends Rob and Michelle
Singer Reiner.
And our only focus and careright now is for their children
and immediate families, and wewill offer all support possible
to help them.
And just a couple more.
Will Wheaton, I am heartbroken.
(08:37):
That's all I have to say rightnow.
Maria Shriver, they were deeplydevoted parents and kind,
patriotic individuals who werecommitted to making the world a
better place.
The Norman Lear familystatement.
Norman often referred to Rob asa son.
Rob and Michelle spent everybreath trying to make this
country a better place.
Joe and Jill Biden.
(08:59):
Jill and I send our deepestcondolences to everyone whose
lives were touched by Rob Reinerand Michelle Singer Reiner's
extraordinary contributions.
We will take solace in knowingtheir work will live on for
generations to come.
And Elijah Wood, horrified tohear of the passing of Rob
Reiner and his wonderful wifeMichelle.
(09:19):
So much love to their kids andfamily.
Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Hillary and I are heartbroken bythe tragic deaths of our friends
Rob and Michelle Reiner.
They inspired and upliftedmillions through their work of
film and television.
And they were good, generouspeople who made everyone who
knew them better through theiractive citizenship in defense of
(09:42):
inclusive democracy.
And finally, one more for areason.
James Wood, Republican.
Rob and I remained good friendsever since we made Ghosts of
Mississippi.
The studio didn't think I wasold enough to do the part, but
Rob fought for me.
Political differences neverstood in the way of our love and
(10:02):
respect for each other.
I'm devastated by this terribleevent.
The point that I'm making to mylisteners here, Wolfpack
listeners, is that evenRepublicans like James Wood
showed class and decency in thewake of the tragic murder of Rob
Reiner and his wife Michelle.
(10:23):
And myself, me, Jeff, whenCharlie Kirk was assassinated, I
did a special episode aboutthat.
Hopefully some of you listenersmade the time to listen to it.
And I said I didn't agree withanything that Charlie Kirk said.
I thought he was disgusting.
I thought he was opposite ofeverything this country was
about, and opposite of what thiscountry needed.
(10:43):
Yet, I stated in that episodethat assassination was not the
answer.
And I tried to show some respectand class towards the murder of
Charlie Kirk.
And with all that in mind,Wolfpack listeners, please
listen to the followingcontrast.
(11:03):
People from every corner of thecountry, artists, politicians,
friends, even longtime criticson the other side of the aisle,
they understood something basic.
The Reiners were murdered.
This was a family tragedy.
This was a moment that demandedrestraint.
And then there was Donald Trump, the self-styled man of class,
(11:29):
the face of this country, theman who never misses an
opportunity to tell us howpresidential he is.
And I'm being fucking sarcastichere.
Trump chose this moment to postan incendiary political message
about the murder of Rob Reinerand his wife.
And I'm reading it even thoughit disgusts me, you need to hear
(11:50):
it.
Trump writes A very sad thinghappened last night in
Hollywood.
Rob Reiner, a tortured andstruggling, but once very
talented movie director andcomedy star, has passed away.
Together with his wife,Michelle, reportedly due to the
anger he caused others throughhis massive, unyielding, and
(12:10):
incurable affliction with amind-crippling disease known as
Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Sometimes referred to as TDS,the president wrote on Truth
Social.
He was known to have drivenpeople crazy by his raging
obsession of President Donald J.
Trump.
Donald added, Reiner wascompletely deranged.
(12:35):
Are you kidding me?
I'm angry about what Trumpposted.
I'm furious at the sheer lack ofclass from Donald, at the
smallness of Donald, at theinsecurity from Donald Trump.
(12:57):
How dare you, Donald, take atragedy like this and use it to
spit out garbage like that?
How dare you look at a murderedhusband and wife and turn it
into a cheap insult?
This is not leadership.
This is not toughness.
This is not strength.
This is an angry, small mindedman who does not give a damn
(13:20):
about anyone but himself.
There's something deeply wrongwith Donald Trump who hears
about a brutal killing andresponds with hatred, venom, and
poison.
The anger pouring out of DonaldTrump's mouth is grotesque.
It's reckless and it'sdangerous.
(13:41):
This is the president of theUnited States posting this
garbage.
And I'm fucking pissed off.
Even some Republicans agreedwith me.
Republican Congressman ThomasMassey wrote on X, regardless of
how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and
(14:02):
disrespectful discourse about aman who is just brutally
murdered.
He's referring to Trump.
I guess my elected GOPcolleagues, the Vice President
Vance and White House staff, will just ignore it because
they're afraid.
I challenge anyone to defend it.
Massey doesn't pull punches.
A Republican.
Marjorie Taylor Green alsocriticized Trump's comments,
(14:25):
saying, This is a family tragedyand it should not be politicized
or used for political attacks.
Hey, at least there's someoutrage, but where the hell is
everyone else's outrage?
Two Republicans spoke up.
Two.
Where are the major namesenators?
(14:46):
Where are the party leaders?
Where are the men and women inCongress who never shut up about
decency, values, and respect forlife?
They interviewed some of thesepeople today and they avoided
about Donald Trump's comments.
They said, we wish the familywell, but they wouldn't commit
to saying what Donald posted waswrong.
(15:06):
Typical bullshit from thesespineless Republicans.
Two people were murdered, andthe president of the United
States mocked it, politicizedit, and turned it into a
punchline.
And most of Washington'sRepublicans just went silent.
Not because they don't know isdisgusting, not because they
(15:29):
didn't hear it or see it or readit, but because they're afraid.
Afraid of Trump, afraid of hisbase, afraid of saying out loud
what any normal human beingknows instinctively, that this
crossed a moral line no leadershould ever cross.
Silence is not neutrality.
(15:51):
Silence is permission.
Rob Reiner and Michelle Reinerwere murdered.
And we've got Donald the Dickspitting garbage out like this.
Donald Trump, who is very closeto short circuiting himself with
these asinine comments, justkeeps sounding worse and worse.
(16:13):
I'm embarrassed for our country.
I'm embarrassed that DonaldTrump is the president.
I'm embarrassed and feel for anyindividual or country who were
abused, used, or insulted byDonald the delusional one.
We deserve better as a nation.
(16:33):
We deserve clear thinking andcompassion from our leader as a
nation.
And Donald Trump is the worstexample of what we can put up to
represent America.
Donald Trump's 15 minutes offame has lasted longer than it
should have.
I hope and pray, whether it'sthrough bad health, legality, or
(16:56):
some other means, that DonaldTrump will finally no longer be
in the spotlight and have anypower.
Our country is bleeding todeath, and we're this close to
permanent blackout and completedestruction of our democracy,
all because of a boy namedDonald.
(17:18):
Rest in peace, Rob and MichelleReiner.
You certainly deserved betterthan this.
And our country definitelydeserves better than Donald
Trump's response to thistragedy.
And that's your Monday fallout.
You know how to reach me.
I've given you my email address,my toll-free number multiple
(17:41):
times.
It's up to you to use them ifyou'd like to comment about
anything I've talked about inthis episode, or just to give
your opinion.
Or if you'd like to say hello, that would be nice.
And if you'd like to contributewith a small donation to my
podcast before the holidays, Ihave a link below each
description of every episode.
And I've said multiple times, this is purely optional.
(18:04):
But every little donation trulyhelps.
This is a World Gone Mad.
I'm Jeff Allen Wolf.
I'll be back Wednesday.
Until then, Wolfpack listeners, remain skeptical, keep focused,
but most of all, stay hopeful.
SPEAKER_00 (18:20):
There is chaos in
the world.
Can't you see?
And we need to stand up andpreserve our democracy.
This is a world con.
(18:40):
