Fear has a face, and for many Americans, it's wearing a political mask. As my listeners share their raw, unfiltered experiences following Trump's return to office, a tapestry of anxiety emerges that extends far beyond policy disagreements into the fabric of everyday life.

Through powerful testimonials collected from my podcast listeners, I uncover the real-world impacts of our divided political landscape.

One listener worries about skyrocketing utility bills due to natural gas export policies, while another lives in daily fear of losing benefits as she watches "peaceful people rounded up and deported without due process." These aren't abstract concerns – they're the lived realities reshaping how Americans view their future and security.

Perhaps most heartbreaking are the fractured relationships left in the wake of political division. One listener can no longer discuss politics with her adult children, creating a painful family rift. Another has lost contact with her sister-in-law entirely. Across the country, holiday tables will sit half-empty as politics determines who remains in our inner circles. Never in the history of our country has there been such a divisive person like Trump!!

The psychological toll is equally concerning. One of my listeners admits "the daily chaos is bad for my mental health," while yet another experiences what she describes as "daily emotional trauma." These emotional wounds reflect a deeper national anxiety about the direction of democracy itself, with concerns ranging from local issues to global stability – as our international listeners remind us that American politics creates ripple effects worldwide.

Even those standing up against political extremism face difficult choices, as demonstrated by a Democratic Facebook group administrator who, despite supporting my podcast's message, feared association with me might jeopardize his entire group. When fear silences even allies, what hope remains for honest dialogue?

Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is a world gone mad.
This is a world gone mad, mad, mad, mad, mad.
It's another day in a worldgone mad.
I'm Jeff Allen Wolfe and I'mback again to give my commentary
on the news.
Thank you for joining me.
Okay, here we go.

(00:21):
Apprehension kept off balance, fear All of these emotions I'm
finding from some of thelisteners of my podcast, and
it's understandable.
Of course.
I'm not putting anyone down forfeeling any of this by any
stretch of the imagination.
A lot of people feel likethey've been punched in the face

(00:44):
or the gut.
They are concerned forthemselves and their family
members because of Donald, thedelusional dictator.
I'm going to share with youwhat some of the listeners have
shared with me on what they'refeeling and what they're going
through.
After I asked all of them aquestion, I also want to give

(01:07):
you another example about fearand feeling lost because of
Donald Trump.
There is an administrator of aDemocratic Facebook group that I
know because I'm a fellowadministrator of my own Facebook
group.
Now this particular person withhis Facebook group was letting
me post my links for my podcastto his members, and this

(01:32):
happened to me today, and here'swhat this person texted to me.
Let's call him Mark.
That's not his real name andthis is verbatim from Mark.
I'm sharing this with you toshow you how scared people are
about being involved with otherDemocrats who are standing up

(01:55):
against Donald, like I am.
This is what Mark texted me.
Jeff, our group is a privateFacebook group and I think your
work, your podcast, would getbetter coverage in other ways
than in my Facebook group.
I appreciate you and the workyou're doing.
When Facebook has removed youfor obvious reasons that it

(02:28):
might jeopardize the group andmy group could be shut down if I
continue to post for you whenthey have, for whatever reason,
shut you down.
There are potential legal andethical questions I have.
Mark continues All the bestwith your work.
I still support you, but Ithink it's better for you to
find other ways than Facebook, such as blogs, public speaking

(02:49):
for groups, television, radio,etc.
Signed Mark Fear.
Our Facebook group could beshut down if I continue to post
for you when Facebook, forwhatever reason, shut you down.
For whatever reason they shutme down.
Seriously, mark, I'm standingup and speaking out against

(03:14):
Donald the Delusional and hislunatic supporters.
That's why Facebook blocked me.
Mark is scared of being guiltyby association.
This is what we've come toeveryone Disarray among fellow
Democrats, scrambling to find afoothold and throwing other

(03:34):
fellow Democrats under the bus.
We are in a sad state ofaffairs when we say, hey, jeff,
go do what you're doing.
Affairs when we say, hey, jeff,go do what you're doing.
I support you, but I just don'twant anybody to know I support
you because you know I don'twant to get into any trouble
from others by supporting you.

(03:56):
Yes, that's actually what wassaid to me this morning from
Mark, from that other Facebookgroup.
So people are jumping the ship, you know, leaving the leadership
role, and they're standing upfor what they claim they believe
in, such as democracy and freespeech.
They believe in it.
They just don't want to gethurt by being noticed, and in

(04:18):
this case, by Facebook, according to Mark.
And what happens because ofthis action?
Republicans win.
Republicans love what's goingon.
All of us Democrats likechickens with our heads cut off,
scared and running for coverbecause, god forbid, we stand up
for what we believe in in thiscountry, in democracy and

(04:40):
freedom of speech.
Love it, jeff.
Pat on the back, keep doing it,do what you're doing, but I
don't want people to know whyI'm part of your team or helping
you in any way whatsoever.
I don't want to get hurt bybeing associated with you.
A lot of us are giving in andgiving up, and I promise you

(05:03):
that is not the way to do things.
Let's all stand by ourconvictions and not dump on each
other as Democrats or peoplewho are against Donald.
We need to be strong together.
Okay, I promised you I wasgoing to tell you what people's
thoughts were to a question Iasked them in my Facebook group.

(05:26):
So I asked members of myFacebook group the following
question how has Trump beingback in office again directly
affected you and your family?
Please elaborate with youranswer and I'll share these
thoughts with you.
Kate gave me her thoughtsAlready.
High electric bills that couldget expensive is paying rent in

(05:49):
the not so distant future due tothe orange skid mark in
America's underwear.
Deciding to lift the exportlimits on LNG natural gas
exports when Biden was in office, she says he knew that
unlimited LNG exports wouldcause electricity to continue to
skyrocket, so he imposed alimit on LNG exports.

(06:10):
The natural gas industry, shecontinues, would much rather
sell LNG to the EU countriessince the Russian invasion of
Ukraine than to the US, sincethe EU countries are willing to
pay double what we pay.
To make matters worse, we havean expected demand increase of
4%, which isn't much but willadd to the already low supply.

(06:32):
The natural gas industry, shecontinues, isn't working on
bringing back our supply towhere it was before the Russian
war, because higher profitsselling it abroad happens, as we
all know.
Low supply plus high demandequals higher prices, which
means higher natural gas billsand higher electric bills, since

(06:52):
natural gas is used to makeelectricity.
To make matters worse, katecontinues, the orange skid mark
decided to reverse the solar taxcredits in his big ugly bill,
which means people who areplanning to get solar installed
will have to get it done bySeptember or October of this
year at the latest, to have itoperational by December to take

(07:12):
the 30% tax credit.
These solar credits and therewas others I believe were
supposed to be in place until2032.
Trump said no.
This will be a huge blow to thesolar industry.
So some very deep concerns fromKate, and it shows you how one
person like Donald can affectpeople's thinking and safety and

(07:38):
security, because peopleunderstand that Donald is
dangerous.
Here's another member whoresponded to my question.
Elizabeth's concerns are thefollowing.
I live in fear of losing mybenefits daily.
I watch our democracy disappeardaily as peaceful people are
rounded up and deported to othercountries without their due

(08:01):
process.
I see a madman take a chainsawto agencies without any regards
to the harm he may cause.
He in fact says empathy is thedownfall of our country.
I see all my privateinformation and data collected
by hackers.
Now I hear that they'reconsolidating all that hacked
data into one massive program.
For what purpose?

(08:23):
Elizabeth continues Republicansscreamed deep state for most of
the past eight years.
Why aren't they understandingthis is a deep state move?
Her thoughts show the palpableconcern A lot of us have about
the policies from the Trumpadministration.

(08:43):
No rhyme or reason, just thingsbeing decided to affect all of
us in a negative way.
Here's another response fromRenatus.
That's nothing.
We in Asia live under the fearof an international economic
crisis and possibly World WarIII, with Trump enabling it.

(09:04):
This is not localized people tothe United States.
These feelings that Renatus isbringing up of fear are global
because of Trump.
She fears it affecting her, which means beyond our borders,
worldwide, and the threat ofWorld War III is front and
center in her mind.

(09:25):
Another response from my memberDee.
It feels like daily emotionaltrauma to me.
Dee says Just the chaos andseeing people attacked and, you
know, drug into vehicles bymasked men.
The way they're doing itactually makes it easier for
kidnappers to get away with it,who are not even ICE, let alone

(09:45):
the horror of it being ICE inthe first place.
Just knowing that everyinstitution is under attack, dee
says, and all so thatbillionaires become wealthier.
I'm wondering if Medicare willstill pay for appointments as it
has, and sorry for childrenthat will be cut off from their
medical care, who need it sodesperately.

(10:06):
She continues, and every daywondering what horror will be
brought to our attention next.
Dee concludes Fox News andNewsmax make me furious with
their never-ending propaganda.
So D not only do we have todeal with the lies from Donald
the dictator, but the ridiculouspress such as Fox and Newsmax

(10:30):
reinforcing and promotingDonald's beliefs.
And the answers kept coming, listeners, this one from Vicky.
It literally is breaking myheart to see what he is doing
and seeing people I love blindto it due to the right-wing
media lying daily.
There should be a way toreinstate truth in broadcasting

(10:51):
so that people can trust what isbeing said.
Vicki concludes higher prices, lower morals and the trauma of
seeing people drug off thestreets hurt me personally to
the soul.
I feel for what Vicki's saying.
It hurts to the very bone.
I understand that and as far asreinstating truth in
broadcasting, I'm doing the bestI can with my podcast.

(11:15):
This following comment gets tothe core of things.
This is from Teresa.
She says the daily chaos is badfor my mental health.
My husband voted for Trump andnow is in danger of losing his
job.
You know a lot of us arefeeling what she's feeling.
You know a lot of us arefeeling what she's feeling.
We're feeling it physically, emotionally and mentally because

(11:37):
of Donald not caring one iotafor this country.
She brings out how people hadsupported Trump by voting for
him and now themselves are indanger from feeling the
ramifications from him and, inher case, with her husband
losing his job.
And a comment from a man Thankyou, doug.

(11:57):
He says.
As an aging gay man, I fearthat all of the progress mates
in Stonewall will be wiped outin an instant.
The radical right agenda, fueled by a flagrant
misunderstanding of Christianity, is to wipe out all non-hetero,
non-white, non-males andfemales who will not obey them.
Secondly, doug continues I fearthat the crumbling of the rule

(12:21):
of law will lead to lawlessnesson a larger and much more
violent scale.
I pray daily that God willpowerfully move the heart of the
dictator wannabe intofull-blown cardiac arrest.
Doug, I agree with youLawlessness.
How can we trust that, if welocally have an issue, that the

(12:42):
police will come to our aid inour community and not base their
decision on our color or sexualorientation or anything else
like the way we look or who wevoted for?
The answers kept coming to mefrom my members and you could
hear the hurt, pain and fear ineveryone's response.

(13:04):
Here's a handful more okay fromSandra.
Sandra, I have strong feelingsabout what he is doing.
I cannot discuss this with anyof my three grown children.
They know how I feel and I knowhow they feel.
So it is a strain on our family.
I failed to reach them in theiryounger learning years as I was
too busy making a living, shesays, and overseeing a household

(13:27):
.
Sandra concludes I reallydidn't care so much until Trump
stepped into the picture andstarted destroying our democracy
.
Sandra, how much does this ringtrue for the rest of us?
We're family, our family arebeing affected.
Family members taking the sideof Donald and some family

(13:47):
members siding with us, a totaldisconnect with some of the
people we love.
Lori commented politicaldisagreements have fractured
family ties.
How true that comment is, lori.
You're coming off a place fromthe previous comment.
See the theme people, familyties.

(14:08):
We don't talk to people.
We can't go to holiday eventsor other happenings because
we're afraid that if we sayanything it would trigger an
argument amongst each other.
This never used to be like that.
Everyone I'm not talking aboutsquabbles among family members.
I'm talking aboutconflagrations with people

(14:30):
during the holidays, becausethey're them and we're us.
They love Trump, we don't.
It's sad.
And finally, the last responsefrom Susan and her replying to
the question I asked how doesDonald, what did he do to affect
you and your family or whatwill happen in the future?
Do you fear?
Susan restates what Lori andpreviously before the comment

(14:55):
was.
Susan says I've lost closefriends and I'm no longer in
contact with my sister-in-law.
Susan.
Same thing going throughoutEvery time I come across this.
That's the biggest issue Losingclose friends and family ties.
I, susan, no longer talk withmy half-sister and some friends

(15:17):
who are no longer in my circlebecause of their belief in
Donald and they think thatwhat's happening is okay.
It is not.
Never has there been such adivisive person such as Donald
Trump in our country.
That's a fact.
Okay, everyone, your comments,your feedback.
What is your answer to thequestion I asked them?

(15:39):
What is Donald doing that hurtsyou and your family?
Or for the future, what are youworried about that has already
happened to you or may happenvery shortly.

I want to thank all the membersfrom the Facebook group and
other sources for replying tothe question that I asked about
Donald Trump.

(17:27):
With all that being said, here's the uplifting story for
this episode.
Smoking rates fall to the lowestever, led by our young people
and a changing culture.
Two national smoking surveys inthe UK and the US, which both
concluded last October, showedthat smoking rates were among

(17:49):
the lowest ever observed.
The national smoking rates inthe US, based on a survey of
1.77 billion people 54,000households are falling across
the board, with the largestdecline seen in America's youth
across the board, with thelargest decline seen in
America's youth.

(18:09):
Places with historically lowerrates of smoking saw more modest
declines, while areas withhigher rates saw the most
dramatic declines.
Seniors and those aged over 50,though, were quitting at
significantly slower rates thanyouth.
The findings were reported in aJAMA study with data collected
from 1992 to 2022 to establishnonlinear trend lines that could

(18:31):
be projected out into 2035 forthe sake of informing health
policy state by state.
Stone, an assistant professorat UC San Diego, said that the
national smoking prevalence ispredicated, via the data, to
fall below 5% by 2035 on anational level, state by state.

(18:56):
California, utah, hawaii, colorado are even projected to
be significantly under therecommended target of 5% by that
year.
The rapid decline in smokingamong young adults is clear
evidence that the smokingepidemic will come to an end in
our lifetime, said Dr Stone.
In tandem, the UK has also madegreat progress, with smoking

(19:19):
rates hovering around 11.5%nationally, sitting even lower
among 18 to 24-year-olds at 9.8%.
This equates to just 6 millionadult smokers out of a
population of 68 million.
So the question do you have ahistory of smoking?
Is almost always included onmedical forms and during

(19:42):
examinations and doctor's visitsas a variable.
It must be controlled for inall studies on the impacts of
any activity on human health forthe work to be considered
seriously rigorous science.
This is because smoking islinked to the incidence of, and
or the worsening of, virtuallyevery major killer in the West,

(20:05):
including cancer, heart diseaseand metabolic disorders.
Now, folks who are or have beennon-habitual smokers, who can
start and stop whenever theywant, may find the
characterization of smoking asan epidemic slightly harsh, but
the impact that commercialtobacco cigarette usage has had
on national health systems andindividuals and their families

(20:29):
is so significant as to beunquantifiable.
You know I smoked whence when Iwas six years old, that's right.
I started smoking at six.
My neighbor, when I asked himwhat's that?
And he said it's a cigarette, young man, and he gave it to me
to try.
Now, before you blast myneighbor many, many years ago,

(20:52):
he did it deliberately and hetold my dad what he did.
I had such a bad reaction atsix years old to the cigarette
that my neighbor gave me.
I never smoked again.
Thank you, a big shout out andprops to my neighbor for doing
that when I was six years old.
This is a world gone mad.

(21:14):
I'm Jeff Allen Wolf.
I'll be back again Friday.
I really hope to hear from you.
This time, I could use yourenergy and input.
Otherwise, I'm sitting in aroom talking to myself.
Stay hopeful.
There is chaos in the world, can't you see?

(21:35):
And we need to stand up andpreserve our democracy.
This is a world gone mad.
This is a world gone mad.
