(00:00):
Alright guys, we are back. Hello. We just recorded a podcast like 10 minutes ago. It
(00:20):
was a long one. And how long was it? I don't know. I didn't look. Oh, not sure. It was
a long one. But this is a good episode. Yeah, yeah. Because it's our Thanksgiving episode.
Top gobble. Our brains might be a little fried. Yeah, we are. Yeah, we're fried. But this
(00:43):
is a lighthearted one. Yeah. Okay. So first though, we do have some verses. Anna, you
want to say your Thanksgiving verse or passage? It's five. And it's pretty, I mean, when
you think Thanksgiving or giving thanks, Psalm 100 is one that a lot of people use, but it's
(01:05):
good. So I'm going to read it and I really want you guys to listen. Now that you have
any other choice, if you've clicked on, of course you can turn it off. Please don't.
Okay. Make a joyful noise to the Lord all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness. Come
into his presence with singing. Know that the Lord, he is God. It is he who made us
(01:26):
and we are his. We are his people and the sheep of his pasture. That's why I was singing
that song. Oh, that's where you got it. Yeah. Anyway, thanksgiving and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him. Bless his name for the Lord is good. His steadfast love endures forever
and his faithfulness to all generations. And that's just a song of praise, but that's
(01:48):
what we're talking about today. Cool. It's literally, my Bible has it labeled as a Psalm
for giving thanks, but we are, we're giving, we're here to talk about Thanksgiving and
giving thanks. Yeah, it's real good. Okay. Yeah. Remind me the other day, remind me of,
(02:11):
you know, those memes where it says when you have to have a thousand words, I say, but
you only have 950 or whatever. So then you have like, you repeat the same things over
and over again. That's what Casey said something the other day. I don't remember, but I could
not stop laughing. So I was like, that's what it reminded me of. It's a song for Thanksgiving,
a song for giving thanks, if you will. Okay. So my passages are, I have two different passages,
(02:38):
but they're short. The first one is Psalm 118 verses 24 and 26. And it says, this is
the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Blessed is he who comes
in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord. And then the other
one is Philippians 4, 6 through 7. These are both fairly common, like they're known, I
(03:00):
think commonly, I'm pretty sure. Philippians 4, 6 through 7, it says, do not be anxious
about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving, let your
requests be made known to God and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will
guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. I actually, I'm not going to go into
detail about it, but maybe someone can think about this and study it on their own if they
(03:22):
follow it too after I say this. I recently was made aware from God through one of my
quiet times recently of the difference of peace with God and peace of God. And I don't
know if that's like the main difference or whatever the thing that I came to know, but
it was a difference in them. But I'm too tired to go through that right now and I don't feel
(03:45):
that too, but maybe you can think on that on your own time. Go look at it. Yeah. Cool.
And the next thing we were going to do, so we just wanted to have some scripture in there
because obviously that's the most important thing is fill our hearts with scripture. We
had five things, we're going to list off five things that we're each thankful for in mindsets
(04:07):
in no particular order. Anna is winging it, aren't you? Yeah. That's fine. I was just
wondering. They call me out Sarah, God. Anna didn't prepare, okay, for the most important
episode of the month. Oh, I'm teasing Anna. As we always say, because we are winging it
(04:27):
queens, um, the Holy Spirit really talks through us. He does. He does. That's why I never prepare
anything ever. My boss is like, you need less of me as homework. I'm like, walk in and just
start feeling like that's my lesson plan, Michelle. Okay. I do need to get better. Okay. So we're
(04:55):
moving on here. Okay. So we're going to list off five things each of us that we're thankful
for. And then after that, we're going to talk about three of our, this is the most important
part of the episode, three favorite Thanksgiving foods, like your traditional Thanksgiving
foods. Think of those and then your top three. Okay. I thought it'd be harder for me because
(05:16):
I love all of it pretty much. Yeah. There's not really one I don't. Yeah. Maybe eating
yams, but there were, but we never have yams. Why is that? Anyway, that's at the end. Okay.
(05:39):
Didn't we. You have to bring in a big hole? Are you trying to guys. Number two. Are we
I don't know.
They're similar but they're different.
(06:00):
Then why do people like sweet potato on grocery pick up and pull that yam?
I don't know.
Oh my.
Why did you say yam?
(06:24):
Why did you say yam?
No!
Because something will happen for Thanksgiving.
We need to go out into the library and take a survey and be like have you ever had lamps for Thanksgiving dinner?
Wait, okay, this is the difference.
That's the podcast where the yams are starchy and dry texture.
Sweet potatoes are soft to firm texture depending on variety.
(06:46):
Yams are neutral flavor.
Can be toxic if eaten raw.
Sweet potatoes have a sweet flavor.
Yams can grow up to 7 feet long and 100 pounds.
Wow.
Sweet potatoes about 5 to 7 ounces.
So different.
(07:08):
So different.
Yams, you could have a whole person size yam but a sweet potato is like a little hamster.
Yams are brown or black bark like skin.
Sweet potatoes are smooth orange purple red or white skin.
They're very different, Hannah.
See?
Yams are not widely available in the US.
(07:30):
Sweet potatoes are grown in the US.
Yams are white or purple flesh.
Sweet potatoes are orange purple red or white flesh.
Wow.
That was good, Yama.
Thank you.
So first off, five things we're thankful for.
Do you want to go or me?
You can go.
(07:52):
Okay.
In no particular order, these are my five.
First off, it's probably an obvious one.
My son and my husband.
What?
Yeah.
You're thankful for them.
I know.
I will say this year, I have grown, well my son is only a year I guess, but this year with my husband, I'm not going to quickly say this.
(08:14):
I have grown fonder and fonder of him this year.
I didn't think it was possible because especially when you first start dating someone or whatever, you have all the things or whatever, the feelings or whatever.
Feeling shmeelings.
But I will say.
Well I don't know, Sarah, because I've never dated anybody.
Some of these people don't, Hannah.
(08:38):
Anyway, but this year, because of my relationship with God, how it's grown and Casey's has grown too with God, my fondness of my husband has grown to be the most it's ever been.
Which is really cool to experience.
And so my thankfulness, my great thankfulness to God for my husband has actually grown even more.
Which again, didn't know that that was possible to grow, but it did grow.
(09:02):
And then for my son, for a lot of reasons, but that could take up a whole podcast if I go on with that.
My next thing is delicious, God-grown food.
And then I put in parentheses fruits especially.
My preferences for like God food is what I call it.
Like God-grown food has grown immensely in the past couple years or whatever.
(09:27):
Like I'm big into just eating.
I mean I eat other stuff too, but like really just really eating God-grown food.
And it's delicious.
So that's why I put it in there.
My third one is access at all times to the Bible and freedom to read it at any point.
What?
I don't know.
I'm just listening to you.
And then my fourth one is my washer and dryer.
(09:51):
Very grateful for my washer and dryer.
And number five is my car.
That's one of mine too.
Yeah.
And then I have a bonus that I feel like is just obvious.
So I didn't put it in my list here, but it's a bonus.
And it's my current relationship with God and all the wisdom and knowledge that he's bestowed on me within the past year resulting in the amount of spiritual growth I have entered this year as well.
(10:18):
So I mean, if you've been on, if you've listened to our podcast before, you probably know like if you've heard us talk about it, we've both been saved for a long time.
And like we've grown for several years in our faith with God.
But for me specifically, the past year to two years has been the most growth I've ever had spiritually.
So that's why I said within the past year in that.
(10:39):
So those are my five things.
So my five are number one is my parents.
I've just been feeling particularly thankful for them lately.
I think as I step further into adulthood and everything, just that they're just a very constant and steady presence in my life and also that they let me still live with them.
(11:01):
That's a huge plus.
Yeah, I am putting on moving out soon and I have a feeling I'm going to fully realize how much I need them when I do.
But I don't know.
And then especially my cousins, my uncle just passed away.
And so I just my cousin, their youngest daughter is only a year older than me.
(11:23):
And I just like keep thinking about losing my dad that young and everything.
And he's with the Lord.
And of course, like that brings a lot of peace and comfort.
And like I know that if my dad or my mom passed away, they would be in heaven with the Lord.
But just missing them here on earth, I couldn't imagine.
And so I've just been really feeling particularly thankful for my parents lately.
(11:44):
My second one is that God's love is steadfast and it doesn't change based on what I do and that my feelings might change, but his don't.
And so there might be times when I don't feel as close to him as I once did.
There might be times when I'm kind of caught up in a cycle of sin and I'm going and doing my own thing.
But his steadfast love does endure forever and that it doesn't change towards me ever.
And that he's like his like that I was praying the other day and thinking about the song.
(12:10):
I forget what it's called, but it's the one that goes, your love never fails. It never gives up.
It never runs out on me.
But like mine for him is so flaky compared to what he has for me.
And like I don't deserve it.
And I'm just so thankful for it.
My third one is also my car.
I just went without a car for three weeks.
(12:31):
And my parents were kind enough to drive me around.
My mom would drive me home from work.
My dad would drive me to work.
And that's another reason, by the way, I'm thankful for my dad is that this man prays every single morning on his way to work.
And like does his best to include every like everybody in his direct line or like direct day to day life.
Yeah, his circle. His circle.
Yeah. And like every morning faithfully prays for them.
(12:53):
And so I'm thankful for his example of that.
And it's like then caused me to be more faithful in praying before work.
So thankful.
Because you talked about on previous podcasts before about prayer.
We both talked about our struggles with prayer. Yeah. So that's really cool.
I'm thankful for that.
But anyway, so even though me being without a car was a blessing to me in some ways because I got quality time with my parents,
(13:16):
it's nice to have it back.
My freedom again.
And just to be able to not be like, hey, mom or dad, can I buy your car to go do this or go do that?
Because I have a lot that I'm involved in in my life.
And you have a longer commute.
Yes.
You go to church and work a little further away from where you live now.
Yes, exactly.
So thank you, Lord, that I got my car back.
Then number four is that the Lord entrusts me to take care of six little souls at work every day.
(13:41):
And I get to work in a Christian environment where I get to tell them about Jesus.
And that's something that I think the Lord has really been working on me to take more serious lately,
that these are little souls that I can impact for him.
And so I'm very thankful for that.
And then number five would just be that I have so many opportunities in my life.
Like I have the head, which is like the college ministry that I'm involved in and that Sarah's gone to.
(14:07):
And she was actually the one who invited me to it in the first place way back in 2019.
You know what's really cool?
And this is not me.
Like, God definitely did this.
But because we went, because y'all moved here and you went to the same school as me,
you started going to church with me on Wednesday nights.
And if it wasn't for that, you wouldn't have gotten to know Siri and Hannah.
(14:29):
Right.
And then wouldn't in turn have like you had you grow closer to them when you got older.
And then, well, I guess me and you still were somewhat in contact here and there.
And then you started going on the hedge through me.
Yeah.
Right. Yeah.
And then you got to know Siri and Hannah and now you're super close to them.
And then you also got to like watch their kids for a while.
Right.
And wow, it's so cool.
(14:51):
And like, I know you don't mean this in a private way, it really is all Sarah.
Like if I had met Sarah, I wouldn't have gone to the church we went to.
I wouldn't have met like I wouldn't have met a lot of my best friends if I'd never gone to the hedge.
Well, I'm like the constant person in there, but it wasn't me.
No, I know what you mean.
I'm not saying that either.
Yeah.
No, I know what you mean.
Yeah.
It was Lord through you.
(15:12):
But like that's crazy because Sarah has been.
Well, and especially, oh my gosh, Anna.
Anna and I struggled in high school with each other.
Yeah.
We had a lot of resentment toward each other.
We really did.
It was all pride and resentment.
It was bad timing.
Yeah.
I mean, this is like for me, it started because I liked her high school boyfriend right before they started dating.
(15:34):
Like literally right before I started dating, I had I realized I had feelings for him.
And then we started dating and so Anna didn't like me.
Yeah.
And then we both just threw and it's not as.
And it wasn't just because of the boy.
Yeah.
But like.
There was just a lot of resentment that built up in her.
Yeah.
And so she like the way she treated me and then turned how I treated her, it was just really bad.
Yeah.
(15:55):
It was not good.
And then we were like, oh my gosh.
We were not the bullies ever.
And probably until you and I met and then we were each other's bully.
Yeah.
Literally like we bullied each other.
Man, sometime I think it'd be funny to do for a podcast.
If I went through my journal entries, I was like, I can't believe that Sarah did this.
She just kind of.
I can't believe that Sarah did this.
(16:16):
I can't believe that Sarah did this.
She just kind of.
I can't believe that Sarah did this.
I can't believe that Sarah did this.
I can't believe that Sarah did this.
Well, I don't have a journal filled with you, Anna, but you know, what I do have lots of memories and one of them was.
I will bring the story of over and over again.
I don't know what went through your mind when this happened.
What happened, Anna?
Tell me now.
I need to know.
(16:37):
We were sitting in a classroom and class had not started yet.
And Anna had a rubber band.
She was going to playfully shoot at me, but she for some reason had it pointed at the back of my head.
And when I turned around, she's right in the eye.
She got me on the eyeball.
Oh my gosh.
I have resentment towards you, Anna.
(16:58):
Thank you.
I love it.
You should.
I deserve it.
I mean, I was like trying to make sure I wasn't blind in one eye because she was also.
She had to go to the nurse's office.
She was also not even a foot away from me.
She literally was holding up like a few inches.
No, yeah, our desks were like next to each other.
Yeah, she was a few inches away from my eyeball.
No, do you want to know something even funnier?
(17:19):
Literally yesterday at work, one of the kids in my class has a little stuffy.
Well, they have little bits of them and it's a little penguin stuffy.
Oh, yeah.
I threw it at my coworker's head and she said it really hurt.
And I literally yesterday thought about that and I was like, I remember the time I said it would prevent insomnia.
(17:40):
Poor Jackie.
She was just like, she's like, no, it really hurt.
And I was like, I'm sorry.
And she's like, it's fine.
She's like, it just, I don't know what came over me.
I just threw it.
But to reel this back in, we're just going to reel it back in.
Holy Spirit, I'm so thankful for Anna.
Through all of the persecution she's thrown at me with rubber bands.
(18:01):
I'm thankful for Sarah because even though she stole her husband from under me, even though they had previously had feelings for each other and this had been building for a while and I just was someone else.
I had no idea Anna had feelings for me.
Right.
And there's no way she could have known.
It's just funny.
(18:24):
So you had your pipe, right?
Those are my pipes.
Oh my God.
This is going to be entertaining for somebody.
I hope so.
And I love how this is literally like the most important podcast of the month.
We're over here just...
Okay, so my top three favorite Thanksgiving foods.
This was not as hard as I thought it was going to be, but it was so a little tough.
(18:48):
I don't know that these are in any particular order either.
Pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and stuffing.
Wow.
Yeah.
I don't like pumpkin pie at all.
I love pumpkin pie.
I think it's a texture thing.
I realized because I don't hate pumpkin and I used to be that person like a pumpkin's good to hate pumpkin.
I just don't like pumpkin pie because of the texture.
(19:11):
Sorry, I know we said that.
I just had this revelation recently because I was talking to, again, my coworker, the penguin.
And Jackie is my work bestie and I'm going to do...
This is my bonus.
I'm thankful for Jackie because she and I need each other throughout the day.
Otherwise, I don't know if we'd make it.
(19:33):
But I was talking to her about this earlier this week and I was like, I think it's not that I don't like pumpkin in general
because I like pumpkin bread or pumpkin muffins or whatever.
It's the texture of pumpkin pie that I don't like.
That's understandable.
Yeah.
I mean, I understand that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But no, my top three things, I think it's also mashed potatoes because come on.
(19:54):
How can you go wrong?
Mashed potatoes are amazing.
And then turkey, but only if it's made right.
Okay.
Because recently my mom has been making turkey.
My mom makes a really good one.
And I don't like turkey if it's not dry.
Right.
My third is...
Oh, shoot.
I like all of them.
But I think my third is probably...
Oh my gosh.
My mom has this recipe from her Aunt Louise and it's like for broccoli cheese casserole.
(20:20):
Oh my gosh, you guys.
It's amazing.
And it's a Thanksgiving, like traditionally a Thanksgiving dish that we have.
And it's just like broccoli and cheese.
And it's really good.
It's got like...
You sprinkle either Cheez-Its or Ritz crackers, like either one on top.
Whatever you have.
And I've had it both ways and it's good both ways.
But the Cheez-Its really...
(20:41):
Extra cheesiness or the tastiness.
And the crunch is good too.
I would have never thought to do that.
It's her Aunt Louise's recipe.
And you know Aunt Louise, she's a good old southern woman from Tennessee.
And so you know that she cooks good.
Yeah.
So those are my top three.
I've never heard of putting Cheez-Its or Ritz crackers in my broccoli casserole.
It's good.
(21:02):
Like I made broccoli cheddar casserole, but not that way.
No.
It's like something I look forward to every year.
And we have it usually at Christmas and Thanksgiving.
So...
Bonus number four.
Actually, I will say is that every year...
My Oma passed away in January of 2022.
But before she passed, every year she would send us these sugar cookies that she made.
And like that she decorated.
And they're always so cute.
(21:23):
And she would decorate little turkeys and pumpkins and stuff.
And she would ice them herself and everything.
And so I miss those now that she's gone.
But that was like one of my favorite things I look forward to at the holidays.
Yeah, that's a cool little tradition.
I really want to learn how to make them, especially now that she is gone, because I want to carry that on.
So...
That's good.
Yeah.
(21:44):
Cool.
Well, that was supposed to be a short podcast, but then we went on a tangent about our past.
So thanks guys for...that's all we got today.
We hope you're enjoying your Thanksgiving with your family or with friends.
Yeah.
If anyone wants to, you can go to our Instagram or Facebook page or to our contact page and let us know what your top three favorite Thanksgiving foods are.
(22:12):
Please.
Because honestly, depending on where you live and what your family's whatever is, your traditional foods for Thanksgiving might be different.
We all have the staple.
Most families have a staple like turkey and whatever.
Mashed potatoes, whatever.
Most families.
Creamy casserole is a big one too.
I feel like...well, down in this area.
It is.
It is.
South here, yeah.
(22:33):
Yeah, we've never really had it, but I have other people's Thanksgiving.
Oh, okay.
Well, it's always been a staple for us, but not...
And actually for some reason, it's like my mom will make it every once in a while actually.
Like I think this last Christmas she made green bean casserole, but she doesn't every year.
It's not like one that we have.
Okay.
All the time.
Well, your family's doing it wrong, so...
We have Aunt Lisa's broccoli chard casserole.
That's true.
(22:54):
That's true.
That compensates a lot.
Yeah.
So we do that instead of green bean.
I hope y'all can forgive us for that.
Yeah.
I hope God is a God of forgiveness, I guess.
I hope you don't resent me for that.
Yeah.
Anyway, so yeah, thanks for listening.
And we have more stuff coming out for the Since This Thanksgiving episode.
(23:15):
I have to think through because we have a lot of stuff coming out.
So when this comes out, there won't be much longer in November for podcasts.
So...
Do we...we're doing one more love one after this, aren't we?
And then...
Yes.
And then we'll go into our Christmas series.
And then we'll finish up the love series in January at some point.
Excuse me.
At some point.
So anyway.
And we also have our YouTube videos out every Friday.
(23:36):
And I'm gonna do something for Christmas.
I'll be doing something for like a Christmas theme or whatever for the videos in December.
November is kind of normal except for the Thanksgiving week.
We'll have a special one.
Yeah, because Christmas doesn't start until December.
I agree.
See, a lot of people don't.
Yeah.
No, I agree.
(23:57):
Sorry, I had to say that a little controversial statement out there.
I mean, I find if you want to start putting your stuff up before that.
But I personally really enjoy fall so much that I really want to enjoy it for the full two months that it's fall.
Or supposedly two months.
Even if the weather doesn't fully cooperate.
And then like I do, I enjoy Thanksgiving.
We just never have set up anything until after Thanksgiving.
And I don't know.
(24:18):
I'm a gal who likes to stick to her routines and her traditions.
So...
Yeah.
I don't like to stick to two traditions, but I enjoy...
Yeah, I don't know where I was going with that.
But I mean, also, if you do like Jackie, she already has her Christmas tree up and she's been calling me a grinch because I don't.
But like, you know, I think either way, whether you do it that way or not, do whatever makes you happy.
(24:42):
Yeah.
I don't think God's gonna frown upon you if you put your tree up before Thanksgiving.
I will, but the Lord will.
Right.
I'm joking.
That's a joke.
We'll be a little quick to anger on that one and maybe put some walls of resentment up.
Go listen to our podcast on Love Is Not Your Own Resentful if you want to know more about that.
Oh, that's not this one?
(25:04):
We just recorded that one.
Okay. Love you guys. Have a good week.
Bye.
