SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
god loves to use other people in our lives to
show how much he loves us thatis a very critical thing to
remember why because through ourfriendships god can mold us into
the image of his son, Jesus.

(00:22):
God can show his love and remindus how much he loves us, how
much he cares about us, aboutevery part of our lives.
But that only works if we, inthe tough moments, understand
that friends are important tohave.
What's going on, fam?
Welcome to the Adonime Podcast, where we watch anime with the

(00:42):
redemptive eyes of a Christianbeliever.
My name is Manny.
I'm your host.
And today we're going to bedoing the season one review for
the anime Too Many LosingHeroines, where I'll be
splitting the episode withspoiler free content and then
finishing it off with thespoilers and a final ranking for
the season and seeing how muchgood content it has and anything

(01:05):
that we need to watch out for asChristian believers.
So without further ado, let'sget right into it.
So Too Many Losing Heroines is acomedy slash romance slash
school setting type of anime.
And this anime came out insummer 2024.
So it's fairly new as of now.

(01:26):
It's also PG-13 and it's made byA1 Pictures.
That's the studio that createdthis anime.
And it's actually based off alight novel instead of a manga
this time.
So just to summarize this animein Too Many Losing Heroines, we
follow Kazuhiko Nukumitsu, aquiet first-year high school

(01:46):
student who sees himself asnothing more than a background
character in life.
He's not really into the wholeteen romance thing until he
accidentally gets pulled intothe center of one.
So after witnessing his popularclassmate Anna...
Yet publicly rejected by herchildhood friend, Nukumitsu

(02:07):
becomes her unexpectedconfidant.
But things don't stop there.
Before he knows it, he getstangled up in the emotional
lives of not just Anna, but twoother girls.
Lemon, the energetic athlete, and Chika, the shy bookworm.
So with each of them facingheartbreak in different ways,

(02:29):
Nukumitsu goes from backgroundcharacter to reluctant lead in a
messy, heartfelt, and oftenhilarious romantic drama.
So it's a rom-com with a twist,where the so-called
quote-unquote losing heroinesmight just find more than they
expected in the unlikeliest ofmain characters.

(02:50):
Alright, so I'm going to beginwith the non-spoiler content.
And we're going to go throughour five Christian categories
for this anime.
So the first category is sex andnudity.
Okay, so this anime has a lot ofsensual jokes and references.
And it's sprinkled onto most ofthe anime.

(03:12):
It also has scenes with bathingsuits, which for some people, it
can be really uncomfortable.
In this anime, there is a nursewho is subject to a lot of...
sexual jokes and conversationsso she is bringing these out to
these to the main characters ofthe anime and that can be really

(03:32):
uncomfortable as well there'salso an episode in this anime
where there's a character whodresses as a succubus uh spirit
which a succubus is sexualspirit so not a good thing there
there are some scenes in theanime where there's boobs in the
face mostly used for comedicrelief but a little

(03:57):
uncomfortable to watch uhthere's also a scene where there
are there's a couple just arandom couple and they're
licking a big popsicle um prettysensually that can be a little
uncomfortable to watch too soit's a little bit of all these
things throughout the anime andthat that can be really

(04:17):
uncomfortable for us to watch umThe next category is violence
and gore.
There is none.
I didn't know any violence orgore in this first season,
except for some minor hits.
But they're like punches orslaps.
No big deal.

(04:38):
I did know I did catch one wordof profanity is the B word.
And if I remember correctly, itwas used just once.
And that's it.
Other than that, it's languagewise is pretty clean.
Drugs and alcohol.
There were no drugs and alcoholin this season, but there was a
scene where one of thecharacters is pretending to

(04:58):
smoke.
Not a big deal, but just thoughtI would note it.
Scary scenes.
The other category.
There is a scene where there'sthis crazy girl who looks like
she's about to murder somebodywith some gardening tools.
It could be a little creepy.
Not going to lie.
A little scary.

(05:19):
It's very brief and then it endsup being for fun, like funny.
So not a big deal, but justwatch out for that too.
So finally, let's get into somebiblical points.
Okay.
Biblical points and thennegative points.
And I will hit the spoilercontent.
So some of the biblical points Isaw.
The first one.
One thing I really liked aboutthis anime was how it was

(05:43):
promoting helping people feelbetter about their appearance
and their self-esteem.
OK, so one of the verses that itreminded me of was Psalm chapter
139, verse 14.
I praise you for I am fearfullyand wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works.
My soul knows it very well.

(06:04):
So this anime does actually apretty good job with promoting
that, with promoting, feelinggood about yourself, about your
appearance, of how God made you.
And not necessarily be happywith our flaws, but understand
that we are flawed as humans ingeneral.

(06:25):
But when we put our faith inChrist and we know that we're
going to live with him ineternity and we will be as he
is, perfect as he is in body andmind, in everything, we know
that we will be perfect.
We won't all look alike.
At least that's not the way Iunderstand it.
But...
We all are important to God inhow he made us physically, how

(06:49):
he makes us with ourpersonalities.
We all are fearfully andwonderfully made.
We all are made in God's image.
So it's important to have goodself-esteem.
It's important to be contentwith how God has made us.
The next biblical point that Ireally enjoyed about this anime
is Chika, who's one of the maincharacters.

(07:11):
She deals with social anxietyand loneliness.
So this anime is showing how sheis, right?
She has this social anxiety.
She feels very lonely.
And because of that, a lot ofpeople around her are strangers
to her, right?
And I really like how they dealwith this because as Chika is

(07:32):
starting to open up more, she'srealizing how much...
How much she can really befriendpeople when she's open about her
struggles and stuff.
So this really reminded me ofthe Bible verse 1 Peter chapter
5 verse 7.
Cast all your anxiety on himbecause he cares for you.

(07:55):
So I think with her testimony, with Chica's testimony, we see
that she starts opening up.
Right.
And that's opening other doorsfor her personality to show in
many different ways.
But her example is a beautifulexample of when we cast our

(08:15):
cares and our anxieties beforeGod, how he can help us deal
with them, how he can help usthrough them.
Right.
I myself personally, I deal witha lot of anxieties, social
anxiety issues.
Not necessarily loneliness, butmy anxiety would be a big deal

(08:37):
for me.
I would be anxious to talk topeople, very nervous all the
time.
And once I learned to be openwith them, with the people
around me, at least those closeto me, that they saw that I was
intentional about movingforward.
I was intentional about growing.
I would be open with them.

(08:59):
that I have anxiety, someanxiety issues.
And they were really friendlytowards me, understanding,
especially this day and age, howthat's a pretty big deal, mental
health.
So those are things that happento a lot of people this day and
age.
And if we don't learn to dealwith that, we can stay in that

(09:19):
dark place for a long time andnever experience true freedom.
So once I...
Once I started being open withthat, with God, in prayer,
asking him for help with myanxieties, he allowed me to be
able to open up to people aroundme as well, those that I could

(09:40):
trust, people who were alsobelievers and wanted to help me
and didn't judge me for feelinga certain type of way.
And that really opened a lot forme to be free in that sense.
So we could definitely take thatfrom this anime.
I really appreciate Chika forthat, how they made her that way

(10:04):
and how she started to transformlittle by little in the anime.
Next point.
There were actually somerealistic lessons about
relationships and they werepretty relatable.
I'm not going to get too into itbecause then it'll be a spoiler,
but I'll address it a little bitlater with more details.
But it does have some realisticlessons for us to learn in

(10:28):
regards to relationships.
And it's worth noting and it'sworth appreciating.
Another thing is that theyaddress gossip, you know,
hurtful words in secret, andit's showing how it can hurt and
affect other people around them.
Even if you think that thatperson's not listening to you,

(10:48):
they could be them or someonethat's connected to the person
that you're talking about, itcan cause damage.
It can cause damage.
And I think this anime does agood job of dealing with that.
And that was a great littlelesson too.
Another biblical point I foundwas finding contentment in the

(11:09):
way things are, right?
In this case, being single andwhile being single, being happy
for others, right?
Right.
I'll get into that a little bitlater.
But it reminded me of the Bibleverse 1 Timothy, verse 6.
Sorry, chapter 6, verse 6.

(11:30):
But godliness with contentmentis great gain.
Okay.
So, right.
This contentment applies to manydifferent, all the areas of our
lives, really.
Being content in what God hasgiven you.
And how God is working in youand through you.

(11:51):
Right.
So not necessarily just aboutrelationships, but in this
anime, they make it a point tobe being content with
singleness.
And that's also something thatthe Apostle Paul taught us in
the scriptures as well.
to be content in the singleness,to live your life for God, to

(12:12):
dedicate your life for God.
And, you know, if God calls youfor marriage or having a family,
then those are great things,obviously.
But being content in singleness,I think I really appreciate that
lesson because it's not saidenough in this day and age.
And I think it's starting togrow, but we still need to get

(12:34):
there where, you know, Our lifegoal shouldn't be having a
family.
It's a great goal to have, butthen when you don't have it and
you realize, man, life is notworking out for me because I
don't have a family, there'smore to life than just having a
family, right?

(12:56):
When we put our lives in God'shands, we can trust him.
With everything that he puts onour plate and he would he will
help us to be content in everyarea of our lives.
So that's another great point.
And the last positive point thatI'm going to share is

(13:16):
celebrating those who find lovewhile also honoring your own
journey.
How God writes every storydifferently.
Right.
So it kind of goes with the lastpoint that I shared.
But.
It's so crucial.
I think it's so crucial.
And I love how they did that inthis anime.

(13:37):
Understanding how God has adifferent plan for everybody.
But in the end, the final planis Jesus.
Is to be with Jesus.
That is our final destination.
It's not having a spouse.
It's not relationship.
No, it's being with Jesus.

(13:59):
Having a marriage with Jesus, that is the only point of life
because he is the fountain oflife.
And we will be fully, fullycontent when we are with him and
we can find honor in our ownjourney so that we can always
give him thanks for that.
So those were my positive pointsfor this anime without any

(14:19):
spoilers.
To the negative points, I onlyhave one that I can share
without spoilers.
And it's the sexual scenes.
That's it.
All of these sensual jokes andthese...
Man, there are scenes when italmost gets to nudity.
Like almost getting intodetails.

(14:43):
And I'm like, man, this is...
It's terrible because you seeall of the positive points I
brought.
And sprinkled around the wholeseason one.
Are these, these little snippetsof, not sexual, but sensual.

(15:05):
And honestly, it puts a reallybad taste in my mouth.
Watching a good show that hasgood, really good content,
really good lessons, but hasthis sprinkled all around it,
and it's just, it's reallyuncomfortable.
So...
We definitely have to be mindfulwith those things.
So now I'm going to be hittingthe spoiler content.

(15:27):
So be aware.
I just told you, be warned.
You were warned.
All right.
Spoiler content.
Okay.
Let's go with the positivepoints first.
There is a touching moment whenChica, we talked about her
earlier.
She gets rejected by a guy, right?
So she confesses herself to thisguy and she gets rejected,

(15:50):
right?
But after her rejection, she'sthe one that makes the first
move to move on.
And she has peace with him, theguy that rejected her.
And the guy that she likes, likes another girl, likes a
different girl.
And she knew this, but shewanted to put herself out there.

(16:14):
But she wanted to make peacewith him and the girl that he
likes.
And she wanted to prioritizefriendship over everything.
And that was beautiful.
That was a beautiful moment.
I almost cried.
I'm not going to lie.
That was an accomplishment, ahuman accomplishment.

(16:36):
It was such a great scene, andit reminded me of Romans 12,
verse 18.
If possible, so far it dependson you, live peaceably with all.
Right?
So there was something thatChica really wanted.
She really wanted to be withthis guy.
She had strong feelings for him.

(16:57):
She knew that he probably likeda different girl.
But she just wanted to putherself out there.
She wanted to just bring it tolight.
And unfortunately, it didn't goas she planned.
But she maintained the priority.
The friendships.

(17:17):
And it can definitely encourageus as believers to, even though
you might have a situation withsomeone or different people
where it doesn't go the way thatyou wanted them to be, you can
still be able to find peace withthose people.

(17:37):
And it won't automaticallyhappen.
That's not like a guarantee thatyou can find peace with
everyone, right?
And there are certainlydifferent people that...
You can have peace with, but notnecessarily have to stick
around.
Right.
But in this context where youwant a friendship, you want to

(17:59):
keep the friendship, youprioritize a friendship, but you
also wanted to take the risk.
And you did.
But, man, we can definitelylearn from Chica in this part
where peace with everyone comes.
even though it may be awkwardand you will get there.
You know, it takes time and alot of prayer and guidance,

(18:20):
biblical guidance too.
But man, such a great lesson, such a great scene to watch.
The next positive point isChica.
Again, I think you guys arestarting to notice who my
favorite character is in theshow.
It's definitely Chica.
So Chica is wanting to work hardto be a leader and to rely on

(18:42):
others.
Right.
So this goes back to also herdealing with social anxiety and
dealing with loneliness.
She gets chosen to be a leaderfor this book club.
So now this is her trying tocome out of her shell.
And because she deals withloneliness, she doesn't want to
rely on others, especiallybecause of her social anxiety.

(19:04):
She doesn't know how to open upjust yet.
So she makes it her mission.
Okay.
She wants to be a leader.
She has those leadershipqualities, but she has this
thorn on her side, if we couldsay it like that, that she is
trying to get past.

(19:26):
And thankfully, because of hergood friends that she has, she's
able to get past it and she wasable to learn from those things.
And it was not easy.
It was not easy for Chica atall.
It was very difficult and ittook some time.
But she was able to grow.
She was able to grow past it.

(19:46):
So Chica is now learning to relyon others, right?
Being a leader doesn't meanbeing alone, okay?
It's relying on others to helpyou as well, to lead well,
right?
So she has people behind her asshe's becoming a leader that are
helping her as well.

(20:08):
And that is important toremember about leadership.
The leadership is not justbecause the one person can do
everything and that's it.
No, it's a leader, a real leaderhas people behind them, helping
them and teaching them andhelping them grow as well.
They just have a role of makingthe big decisions and

(20:29):
understanding the vision ofwhere the group is going, right?
So that was that was great.
I love that as well.
Another positive point is that Isaw is feeling broken over being
selfish in relationships.
Right.
So there is a scene where one ofthe characters is broken because

(20:51):
she feels that she's beenselfish in her relationship and
it's caused a lot of issues inthe relationship.
So She has to learn how to thinkof the other person as well.
So I love that the anime wasshowing this, how we can be
guilty of that in relationships.

(21:12):
It's pretty common to be guiltyof selfishness in relationships.
But instead of thinking about,no, I'll tell about what I want,
how I want it.
No, it's...
thinking of the other person aswell.
It's not that person needs tomatch whatever I want.
No, it's a teamwork, right?

(21:35):
So I really appreciated thatabout the anime as well.
Another positive point is howfriendships blossom from tough
moments in life.
And this is definitely a goodmessage that has come from this
anime.
It reminded me of Proverbs 17,verse 17.
A friend loves at all times anda brother is born for adversity.

(22:01):
God loves to use other people inour lives to show how much he
loves us.
That is a very critical thing toremember.
Why?
Because through our friendships,God can mold us.
into the image of his son,Jesus.
God can show his love and remindus how much he loves us, how

(22:24):
much he cares about us, aboutevery part of our lives.
But that only works if we, inthe tough moments, understand
that friends are important tohave.
It's important to have friendsnow, especially because one day
we will go through really toughtimes.
And we have to be open toletting those friends help us

(22:48):
and pick us up from those times.
Right?
So that's another great lessonthat this anime gave.
Another positive point I saw.
Well, actually, it's more of anaddition to the last point.
But the hardest seasons oftenproduce the strongest bonds.
And God uses brokenness to buildreal community.

(23:11):
Right?
I think that's where...
When a friendship is tested, right, in the tough times in a
friendship, that's when thefriendship is tested and that's
when a diamond can really startto come out from the friendship,
right?
If you have just friends thatare all about the good times,

(23:33):
only about the good times, onlystick around for the good times,
but don't work with you throughthe tough times, maybe they
weren't real friends at all.
And that's a hard thing tolearn, too, that, you know, the
person that you probably thoughtyou cared about a lot or
whatever, when it comes to toughtimes, they disappear.

(23:54):
And they can be a real shame.
But it's also important for usto be intentional about being
that person that fights fortheir friendships.
Right.
Maybe the person might bestruggling with something, maybe
something you did or maybesomething they did.
And they might need your help tosave the friendship.

(24:18):
Right.
We have to be intentional aboutdoing it ourselves instead of
maybe coming to a place in thatfriendship where we're like, you
know, maybe I don't care aboutthem that much and whatever.
It is what it is.
The friendship is over.
I don't really care that much.
But maybe if you can pushthrough.

(24:38):
through this tough time in thefriendship, maybe it would turn
into a friendship that youreally care about.
You never know.
So I really enjoyed that fromthis because it shows these main
characters how they are formingstrong bonds because they're

(25:00):
getting past the hard parts inthe friendships.
They are working toward havinghealthy and strong friendships.
relationships and that's a greatthing to remember so negative
points that's it just a secondthis is just essential scenes

(25:21):
really that's that's it for methat's the only thing uh then it
just makes like i said it leavesa bitter taste in my mouth it
really does all right so let'swrap it up with my Christian
viewer rating for Too ManyLosing Heroes, I'm giving this

(25:43):
anime a 5 out of 10.
It's very disappointing.
I'm very disappointed.
Okay, so here's why.
Here's why I'm giving it that.
On the one hand, this anime doesoffer surprisingly heartfelt and
even biblical themes andlessons.
Chica's growth, you guys know,my favorite character, her

(26:06):
growth really stands out for me.
And she wrestles with rejection.
She learns to let go.
She prioritizes friendship.
She starts stepping intoleadership and all of that with
battling social anxiety andloneliness.
We see different Bible versesplay out in subtle but beautiful
ways in her life, in her lifealone, and also in the other

(26:29):
main characters as well.
And there are some solidmessages you hear, you know,
about self-worth, contentment,celebrating others' happiness,
even when your story looksdifferent, big wins for
relatability and redemptivestorytelling, like big wins.
But man, the sexual content is arecurring issue, like a really

(26:56):
big one.
From sexual jokes, A bunch offan service heavy moments to
scenes that are flirting toomuch with nudity.
Like it's really hard to ignore.
Really difficult.
So it's not just one or twomoments.
It's, like I said, it'ssprinkled throughout the show.

(27:18):
And that alone might be a dealbreaker for some.
And I don't know.
It's too much.
Especially if we're trying toguard our hearts.
And we just desire somethingcleaner.
Like we don't need all that.
At least we shouldn't need allthat.
Right.
But, you know, and there's thevery little profanity.

(27:42):
It's just one word.
If you could get past it, not abig deal.
There are some creepy scenes, but again, not a big deal.
It doesn't last very long.
But all in all, this anime hasheart.
and I can see how it might speakto certain viewers, but you'll

(28:02):
need to use discernment.
If you're sensitive to sexualhumor or trying to stay clear of
overly sensual content, this isnot the anime for you.
It's not.
And it's a shame.
That's it for today's episode.
Thank you for watching.
I hope this episode blessed you.
And if it did, feel free toshare, leave a rating, Whether

(28:26):
you eat, sleep, or watch anime,do it all for the glory of God.
Grace and peace.
