What happens when you hand your Hollywood Studios plan to a roulette wheel on a July Tuesday? We tested it—standby only, all ride types in play, casual sit down dining, storms looming—and discovered how randomness collides with Florida heat, crowd flow, and the realities of queue waits. From a lucky late-morning villains show to a brunch at Oga’s that fueled vibes more than bodies, we followed the wheel into Smugglers Run, character meets, Slinky Dog at peak heat, Tower of Terror salvation, and a Baseline Tap House reset that saved the evening. We closed with Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, a quick AC break at Vacation Fun, and the sparkle of Fantasmic as fireworks framed the lessons learned.

Along the way, we break down practical tactics for Hollywood Studios without Lightning Lane: anchor your day with one morning headliner, a true midday meal indoors, and an evening show; group Galaxy’s Edge stops to reduce backtracking; use character experiences and theater shows as strategic AC breaks during storm windows; and respect the hidden time tax inside certain queues, especially Smugglers Run. We talk queue math, walk times, and why pretzels and charcuterie at Baseline can be the smartest thirty minutes you spend all day.

If you crave spontaneity but don’t want to sacrifice fun, this story-driven play-by-play will help you build rails around randomness. You’ll hear where we went wrong, where we got lucky, and how small choices—shade, snacks, sequence—compound into either energy or exhaustion. Hit play, steal our hard-won tips, and then tell us: would you trust a wheel to plan your park day? Subscribe, share with a Disney friend, and leave a quick review to help more fans find the show.

Alicea (03:07):
Hollywood Studios was a five out of ten.
Oh.
Yeah.
Not too shabby.

Nathan (03:14):
That's not horrible.

Alicea (03:15):
It had thunderstorms.
The high was 90 and the low was78.
So cool spell.

Nathan (03:25):
Yeah.
Great.
I can't wait for the afternoonthunderstorm.

Alicea (03:30):
Uh park hours for this day were 9 a.m.
to 9 p.m.
Okay.
Um adult ticket price was $169.
Okay.
Lightning Lane multi-pass was$29.

Nathan (03:43):
Not that we're allowed to buy it.

Alicea (03:45):
Nope.
And Lightning Lane single passfor Star Wars was $20.

Nathan (03:50):
Okay.
All right.
But we can't buy that either.

Alicea (03:53):
No, we cannot.
Let's start out.
Let's see.
Where are we going?
Our first ride is show.

Nathan (04:04):
What?

Alicea (04:06):
Um, I don't think we can do a show first thing,
actually.
Oh, we can.
We can.

Nathan (04:11):
Yeah?

Alicea (04:12):
We can do for the first time at well.

Nathan (04:16):
We could.
We could get in.

Alicea (04:17):
Do you want me to spin for a show?

Nathan (04:19):
We could sleep in.
Oh, spin for a show?
Yeah.
No, we're picking a show.

Alicea (04:24):
Okay.
It's gonna have to be firsttime in forever because that's
at 9 30.

Nathan (04:28):
Oh shoot.
I do.

Alicea (04:29):
Or or Little Mermaid is at 9 20.

Nathan (04:31):
Oh God.
Please don't do Little Mermaid.
Oh, fine spin.
Spin for a show.
All right.
You are so set on doing thiswith the random wheel of
awesomeness.
Oh boy.
Oh, great.
What?

Alicea (04:48):
Villains Unfairly Ever After at 10 a.m.

Nathan (04:51):
Oh, we're sleeping in, baby.
All right.
Okay, that's actually the firstgood thing that's happened to
us in one of these games.

Alicea (04:58):
Okay, so I'm gonna write this down so we can keep track
of stuff.

Nathan (05:01):
Okay.

Alicea (05:02):
Villains at 10 a.m.

Nathan (05:03):
All right.

Alicea (05:04):
That show is like 15 minutes, I think.

Nathan (05:08):
Okay.
And we haven't seen it yet.

Alicea (05:10):
This is true.

Nathan (05:11):
So looking forward to it.

Alicea (05:14):
Yay.
So we are done with that at I'dsay 1020.

Nathan (05:18):
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
What is next?

Alicea (05:23):
Next is food.

Nathan (05:29):
Okay.

Alicea (05:31):
1020 to food, okay.

Nathan (05:33):
A sit-down meal at 1020.

Alicea (05:37):
Uh-huh.

Nathan (05:39):
We are making some very interesting choices on this day.

Alicea (05:42):
Uh-huh.
Um, all right, let's see whatwe're getting where we're gonna
eat.

Nathan (05:48):
Yeah, what are our options?

Alicea (05:51):
Oh, okay.
We're hitting Oga’s.

Nathan (05:59):
I have to eat at Oga’s?

Alicea (06:02):
Not necessarily.
We could do, I don't yeah,there's I mean, it's listed as a
casual table.

Nathan (06:09):
So seriously.

Alicea (06:11):
Uh-huh.

Nathan (06:12):
All right.
Well, it's five o'clocksomewhere.
Let's have a drink.

Alicea (06:15):
Oga's space mimosas.
Oga's at, let's see, we got toget over there.
So 10 45.

Nathan (06:24):
Yeah, probably wait for a table.
And we have to, of course, hangaround for the musical stylings
of DJ Rex.
Yes.
And uh what you think aboutspending what 45 minutes in
there?
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
All right.
So we've had something to eat, well, more drink than eat.
Um, space mimosas werefantastic.

Alicea (06:47):
They were.

Nathan (06:48):
Yep.

Alicea (06:49):
Fuzzy Tauntauns are yummy too.

Nathan (06:50):
Yeah.
All right, what's next?

Alicea (06:53):
Oh, this is nice.
Okay.
Millennium Falcon Smuggler'sRun.

Nathan (06:56):
Hey, we're right there.

Alicea (06:57):
We are right there.
How long did it take?
Let's see.

Nathan (07:01):
Oh, you have the wait times.

Alicea (07:06):
Let's see.
That was at uh what did we say?
Like 11:15?

Nathan (07:11):
Yes, if math maths correctly.

Alicea (07:14):
That was 57 minutes.

Nathan (07:18):
Yay! Who put standby lines on the board?
Maybe forget to put that onedown next time, okay?
Hey now.
I'm just messing.
All right, so we're waiting foran hour to go on Smuggler's
Run.

Alicea (07:38):
Yep.

Nathan (07:38):
Sounds great.

Alicea (07:40):
Okay.

Nathan (07:41):
Uh, we're playing a lot of heads up in that queue.

Alicea (07:44):
Yes.

Nathan (07:44):
Yes.

Alicea (07:45):
All right.
So we get on at around 12:15.

Nathan (07:50):
Mm-hmm.

Alicea (07:51):
And then the ride's like what, 10 minutes?

Nathan (07:55):
Yeah.
I mean, once you get in there, there's usually a little bit of
a queue up in there.
Because you remember their waittimes are to the pre-show.

Alicea (08:04):
Yeah.

Nathan (08:04):
And then you have to go wait for a turn or two up in
kind of the the break room, Iguess we'll call it of the
Millennium Falcon.
And then you get to your ride.
Yeah.
So let's say 15.
Keep it, keep it uh Okay.
Yeah.

Alicea (08:18):
So it's 12

Nathan (08:20):
It's 12 :30.
Okay.

Alicea (08:22):
Next we have Meet Disney Stars at Red Carpet Dreams.
Oh.
So we get to meet Mickey andMinnie.

Nathan (08:30):
I'm down with that.

Alicea (08:32):
That would take what, like 10 minutes to walk to?

Nathan (08:36):
Yeah, somewhere in there.
And then it's a 35-minute wait, according to the table that you
so helpfully included in ourshow notes.
So 45 minutes.
Call it 12:45.
Stop and use the restroom alongthe way.
Space mimosas kind of go rightthrough you.

Alicea (08:55):
Uh-huh.

Nathan (08:55):
Uh-huh.
And then a 35-minute wait.
I don't like doing that math.
Can we just call it 45?

Alicea (09:04):
No.

Nathan (09:05):
Well, no.
Yes.
It's a 35-minute wait, and thenyou actually have to do the
experience.
Yeah.
45.

Alicea (09:11):
Okay.

Nathan (09:12):
All right.

Alicea (09:13):
So that's one-fifteen.

Nathan (09:14):
1:30.

Alicea (09:15):
1:30.
Oh my gosh.

Nathan (09:17):
Okay.

Alicea (09:18):
Math.
After this, we are doing food.
Slinky dog dash.
Oh, shh.

Nathan (09:28):
Well, that's an hour and a half mistake.

Alicea (09:34):
All right.
So from there, it'll probablytake us, what, 10 minutes to
walk over there.
So that'll be like 1:40.
Get there.

Nathan (09:41):
Yeah.

Alicea (09:42):
Uh yep.

Nathan (09:44):
So it's uh 3:20, 3:10, 3:10.

Alicea (09:49):
3:10.

Nathan (09:51):
Is when we're done with Slinky Dog Dash after a
90-minute wait.

Alicea (09:55):
At the absolute best time of the day.

Nathan (09:57):
Yeah, let's go stand in the heat, babe.
Ew.
Hey, at least we got it donebefore the thunderstorms
probably hit around uh, youknow, 3: 30 or 4 o'clock.

Alicea (10:08):
Okay.
So we're going out of this intointo rain and thunderstorms.

Nathan (10:14):
And probably rides going down if they're outside.
Yeah.
But we got Slinky down down offthe board.

Alicea (10:21):
So now we are going to meet Edna Mode at the Edna Mode
experience.

Nathan (10:28):
We are okay.
I don't know where that is.
I don't either.
Let's assume it takes us 15minutes to get there.
It's a 15-minute wait becausenobody else knows where that is
either.

Alicea (10:40):
Is that like where they have no, that's a celebrity
spotlight.
Yeah, I don't know where thisone is.

Nathan (10:44):
I don't uh allegedly it exists.
I don't know.

Alicea (10:49):
All right.

Nathan (10:49):
So there's no way for us to know.
Nope.
No.

Alicea (10:52):
So this would be what getting over there at what, like
what did you say?
Like 3:20?

Nathan (10:58):
Yeah.
We'll call it 3:20.

Alicea (11:00):
It's a 35 minute wait.

Nathan (11:02):
No, it's not.
It's a 15-minute late.

Alicea (11:04):
Oh, 15.
I'm sorry.
I was looking up above.

Nathan (11:07):
Yes, you were.

Alicea (11:08):
Okay.

Nathan (11:09):
Call it a half hour total.
So 3:45.
Okay.
Gotta get that math back tobeing easy.
Okay, so it's 3:45.
We have impending doom ofthunderstorms if they haven't
already arrived.
What's uh what's going on?
What are we hitting next?

Alicea (11:29):
We are going to the Twilight Zone.

Nathan (11:32):
Okay.
I'm gonna need some food.
Can you please tell your wheelof spinny choiceness that I'm
gonna do?

Alicea (11:39):
Are you gonna do food first?
I only I only put food in theretwice, so.

Nathan (11:45):
You don't really like us, do you?

Alicea (11:46):
Am I just I'm just gonna do food then.
How's that?
We're doing food.
All right, and then we'll doTwilight Zone.
Are you sure?
You want to do food beforeTwilight Zone?

Nathan (11:55):
Hey, fine, we'll go do Twilight Zone.

Alicea (12:00):
Okay.

Nathan (12:01):
All right, it's gonna take us.
Maybe we'll grab a snack on theway over from we'll sneak a
snack.
Don't sneak a snack.
Don't tell the game that wesnuck a snack and a drink.
But, dear reader, we snuck asnack and a drink in here.

Alicea (12:17):
Snuck a snack.

Nathan (12:19):
Yeah, so Twilight Zone Tower of Terrors are 45.
We'll call it it's 44.
I'll call it 45 minute wait.
Uh 15 minutes to get there.
So we get there at four.
We 45 minutes actually isn'tthat bad.

Alicea (12:36):
No.
And I'd say done at five.

Nathan (12:40):
Yeah.

Alicea (12:41):
The ride's not fifteen minutes, but Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.

Nathan (12:45):
All right.

Alicea (12:46):
All right.
Food.
Are we still doing food or no?

Nathan (12:49):
We need food.
I need it.
It's been the last thing thatwe had was a sit-down meal,
according to your little game, was at Oga's at 10:45.

Alicea (13:00):
Okay, fine.
Well, very, very happy.
Okay.

Nathan (13:06):
Okay.

Alicea (13:06):
Baseline tap house.
Yes.

Nathan (13:11):
This game is the best.
Don't ever say, don't everlisten to me if I say this is
the worst idea ever.
This is the best game.
Baseline is perfect.
It's exactly where I'd want togo.

Alicea (13:22):
All right.
So 15 minutes to get overthere.

Nathan (13:25):
Yeah.

Alicea (13:26):
So 5:15.
How long are we staying there?

Nathan (13:29):
Oh, here's the problem.
It's probably raining.
There's not a lot of places toeat inside.

Alicea (13:35):
No, rain's done by then.

Nathan (13:37):
Oh, perfect.

Alicea (13:38):
Yeah.

Nathan (13:39):
Thank you, Miss Marble.
Um I uh 15 minutes to get overthere.
How long are we taking we'rewe're gonna sit for a half hour
and just have a drink or two.

Alicea (13:54):
Okay.

Nathan (13:54):
And have some food.

Alicea (13:56):
Okay.

Nathan (13:57):
Charcuterie board and a pretzel.

Alicea (13:59):
Yeah.

Nathan (14:00):
Yeah.

Alicea (14:01):
So that's done at 5:45.
Yeah.
Next is Alien Swirling Saucers.

Nathan (14:09):
Okay.
I can get down with that.

Alicea (14:12):
It's always fun.

Nathan (14:13):
Yeah, absolutely.
Uh what is our wait time?
37 minutes.
37 minutes.
It's not too bad.
It's not too great, but it'snot too bad.
Yeah.
It's a fun little ride.
Yeah.
Alright.
So it it's gonna take us alittle bit to get over there.
Not too much.

(14:34):
So figure.
Well, we're going slow.
There's crowds.
Keep it even.
Get there at there at uh six.
Get there at six.

Alicea (14:49):
Yeah.

Nathan (14:50):
I'm gonna do easy math 35.
Pat it with 10.
Maybe we had to stop and get arestroom break.
Just call it uh six to sixforty-five.
Okay.
37-minute wait in there.
Flexing a little time.
I don't want to do hard math.

Alicea (15:12):
Makes it easier for us.
Yeah, exactly.
Next is uh Rock and RollerCoaster starring Aerosmith.
For now.
Well, yeah, this is this wasearlier this summer.

Nathan (15:26):
Oh, very true.
Okay.
All right.
Okay.
So we're walking to the otherside of the park.

Alicea (15:34):
Yeah, we're just going back and forth.
Most of it's, I mean, like 15minutes for all this stuff.

Nathan (15:40):
So I'd say to to another 15-minute walk over there.
Yeah.
And then it is an hour wait.
So we ride it at 8.

Alicea (15:52):
And it is a one-minute ride.
Yeah.

Nathan (15:55):
Well, hey, hey, hey.
It's like it's like 70 seconds.
Um, I don't know how long itis.
It's not, it's not that long.
It's fun though.
Yeah.
It's totally fun.
Uh, okay.
All right.
So we're we're basically done.
Can we just call it eight andkeep things even?
Yeah.
All right.
So we're done at eight.
Uh we're getting close to parkclose time, aren't we?

Alicea (16:18):
Park closes at nine, yeah.

Nathan (16:20):
We've probably got time for one more thing to do.

Alicea (16:24):
Let's see what we got.
Yeah, because we can get inline at least one more.

Nathan (16:27):
Okay.

Alicea (16:28):
Oh, okay.
Well, we're gonna sit down andwatch Vacation Fun, an original
animated short with Mickey andMinnie.

Nathan (16:37):
What is going through our brains?
Why would we make this choice?
Okay.
Okay, sure.
We're just gonna call this awalk on, although we have to
walk over there.
Uh it's a 10-minutethingy-dingy.

Alicea (16:51):
That's just that's just because it has to, yeah, it goes
through.

Nathan (16:55):
Yeah, it's a 10-minute wait.
It's basically a walk-on.
Uh we're coming from the cornerof the park over towards the
middle-ish, a little past.

Alicea (17:05):
I think 10 minutes to get there.
So like 8:10 to 8:20.

unknown (17:10):
Okay.

Nathan (17:11):
Fair enough.
8:20.
Technically, we've gotsomething else.
Let's roll that wheel.

Alicea (17:19):
Show.
We're gonna go do Fantasmic.

Nathan (17:21):
Uh okay.
Um, we're gonna assume thethunderstorms have pushed
through.
Yep.
Okay.
Sounds sounds good.
Question mark.

Alicea (17:33):
Because after vacation fun, we'd have to go wait in
line for Fantasmic anyway.

unknown (17:38):
Very true.

Nathan (17:39):
All right.
Closing the show, this the daywith Fantasmic and Mickey
shooting fireworks from hisfingers.
I like it.
Do do do do do do do do do do dodo dokay.

(18:03):
I disagree with severaldecisions that we've made as
part of.

Alicea (18:07):
We didn’t make this decision.
This was the wheel.
It told us what to do.
I would not go in this order.

Nathan (18:15):
Do we have to have this discussion again about don't
always trust technology, Alicia?

Alicea (18:22):
The name of the show is roulette.

Nathan (18:24):
Oh the name of the show.
Look, you now we're gonna stickto it.
All right.

Alicea (18:35):
Not a horrible day, though.
Look at all the stuff we hit.

Nathan (18:39):
Yes, look at all of the things that I would have
skipped.

Alicea (18:47):
We got to see the villain show.

Nathan (18:49):
We did.
I I would not have gone to gosee vacation fun.

Alicea (18:53):
No, I I don't know that I'd go to see the characters
either, but that's okay.

Nathan (18:58):
I wouldn't go to Oga's at 10 :45 in the morning.
Um agreed.

Alicea (19:04):
I also wouldn't have showed up late if the park is
closing at nine.
So Right.

Nathan (19:11):
Yeah.
We kind of yeah.

Alicea (19:13):
Well There you have it.

Nathan (19:15):
Well, folks, there is our disappointing day at
Hollywood Studios.
Let this be a lesson to you ofwhat not to do.

Alicea (19:25):
And now a word from our offspring.

Sterling (19:28):
Remember, we are not affiliated with Disney or their
subsidiaries.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
