En achetant et important massivement le bois venu de cette région, Pékin devient un financier indirect de l'instabilité dans la région du Cabo Delgado. Ce traffic illicite du bois rapporte 2 millions de dollars par mois aux groupes armés dans la région.
Alors que les entreprises chinoises sont accusées de trafic illicite de bois à travers l'Afrique, le gouvernement chinois refuse toujours de prendre des actions concrètes contre ces entreprises.
