Speaker 1 (00:14):
Welcome back to AI
Cafe Conversations, where the
mix of the warmth of yourfavorite cafe with the
transformative power oftechnology.
I am Sahar, your AI whisperer, here to guide you through
another enlightening discussion.
Today, we are poring over howartificial intelligence today is
(00:37):
not just advancing our society, but making it more equitable.
As most you know, I am a deiprofessional, and diversity,
equity and inclusion isbasically part of my dna, so I
will always find those points inwhatever I do.
So, from farms to clinics, toclassrooms to remote communities
(00:59):
, let's explore how AI isleveling the playing field
across various sectors.
But before we do that, I wouldlike to take a moment to tell
you the news Security Agency NSAand retired US Army General
(01:29):
Paul M Nakasson will join itsboard of directors.
Why should we worry about that,or what should we care about
that?
It's because Nakassonpreviously advanced the US cyber
defense capability, has awealth of experience in
cybersecurity, so they reallywant to make sure that security
(01:52):
and safety has the highestconcern at open AI, specifically
after some of the formeremployees claim that safety was
not given the proper attention, that we are in risk using ai,
and I believe doing it that wayis just phenomenal.
Uh, the other thing that, uh, Iwanted to I said it in my last
(02:14):
episode, but again, harvey is anew tool that you can use that
lawyers use actually for legaladvice and also every episode.
I like to share a few tools withyou on how to use ai in general
.
You need to be very specific inwhatever prompt you enter,
which we call prompt engineering, and in two episodes ago I
(02:36):
defined what prompt engineeringis and what prompt chaining is.
The way ai design is through isthree different components the
language, a model and a context.
The language is basically, uh,how it has been human, trained
to be.
That's why you need to be veryaware in your input to get the
(02:59):
right output.
The input is the prompts thatwe put, and it's not that GPT
doesn't work or think, but it'sabout garbage in, garbage out.
The second component is themodel.
Ai thinks in ways of conceptsand models, so you share the
concept or structure you want itto work within.
(03:19):
You explain how it works as asequence with parameters.
You need to describe it in words, in language, like a human
being, like I talk to ChatGPTlike, thank you for doing this,
you got it great, or this is notwhat I want Remember what we
did the last time you talk to itas your VA, as your virtual
assistant, as your friend, andmake sure that, before you even
(03:43):
start using ai, to make surethat your chat gpt knows who you
are.
It's like onboarding yourassistant and that's why you
need to give it guidelines.
You can even put constraints, like don't use two words when
you can use one.
Uh, don't use ambiguity, don'tuse big words, uh, don't use the
(04:04):
letter w.
I mean whatever you want youcan put as a constraint.
You can also ask it to reformatwhat it wrote in bullet points
and you can ask it to bold thetitles, italic the most
important part in your output, and it will do that for you.
So that's the models you haveto give because, remember it, it
doesn't have a background orcontext.
(04:26):
It does not have experience, like you do.
The third part is the context.
The context is how it works inthe business world.
You need to communicate in veryclear language.
What you need it's context isthe background story that will
help AI make a decision for you.
(04:47):
Like, we need backgroundstories to make our decisions
like.
Like, for example, if you wantto cook, when you cook is like
how the store works.
That's an idea.
Another another thing that Iwanted to give you is, for
example, how to ask it to dosomething for you.
The first thing that you needto do is to assign a role for it
, like as my legal advisor, asmy personal uh trainer, fitness,
(05:12):
as my chef, as my insuranceagent, whatever it is.
You have to define a a role forit and if you want to write a
blog, you have to be veryspecific.
So you say I want to write ablog, for that is between 900
and 1200 words.
(05:33):
I want the sentences to beshort.
I want this kind of punctuation.
I want you to follow my writingstyle, or I want you to follow
hemingway right style, you know, and you need to put who your
customer is.
My customer is one, two, three, and this is what I do.
I want to write a blog thatwill convince my client profile
(05:59):
to buy my product or my serviceby talking about their pain
points.
First, you start the blog witha hook and end it with a call to
action while addressing thepain, and ask it to give you 10
different blogs with 10different titles.
And if you are unclear aboutsomething, copy paste it and it
(06:23):
will give it back to you.
This is the prompts, and now Iwant to start with what I
started with in this episode, which is equity in AI.
So let's start with agriculture.
Imagine small firms in remoteareas where resources are scarce
and access to the latestfarming techniques is limited.
(06:44):
Here AI comes into play like aseasoned agronomist.
Here AI comes into play like aseasoned agronomist.
Through satellite imagery anddata analytics, ai helps farmers
understand soil health, predictweather patterns and optimize
water usage, especially inplaces like remote areas in
California, where sometimes wehave a drought.
(07:06):
It's about giving every farmer, not just the big players, the
tools to maximize their yieldand sustainability.
Taking a sip of my coffee here.
Switching gears to healthcareai's role in creating equity
cannot be overstated.
In underserved regions, healthcare resources are often very
(07:30):
limited.
This is where ai steps in, andhe steps in as a force
multiplier.
What does that mean?
Telemedicine platforms poweredby ai can perform diagnostic
assessment, manage patient dataand even monitor chronic
conditions, all from afar.
(07:50):
This technology ensures thathigh quality healthcare extends
beyond urban centers, reachingthose who previously might have
been left behind.
Talk about equity right Now.
Let's talk about education In aworld where learning should have
(08:11):
no boundaries.
Ai is the key to unlockingpotential.
Personalized learning throughAI can adapt to individual
student needs, pace and learningstyles, and that can help us a
lot with students that are onthe spectrum, especially people
with we're talking aboutneurodiversity here people with
(08:32):
different levels of autism.
We can actually tailor makethese programs for them, because
they are extremely intelligent.
They just need a special way inhandling them.
It can identify areas wherestudents struggle and provide
additional resources,effectively offering a
(08:53):
customized education to everystudent, not just those in
well-funded school districts.
Yay, yay, yay.
And what about connectivity inrural areas?
Here, ai contributes tobuilding smarter, more connected
communities.
By optimizing networkdeployments and managing
(09:14):
resources efficiently, ai helpsbring high-speed internet to
remote areas.
This connectivity is crucialfor accessing online education,
health services and economicopportunities.
Equity Equity means that weneed to bring everybody to an
(09:37):
equal starting point, thatsometimes we need to divide the
resources that we have in anuneven way to accommodate the
people that were left behind.
This connectivity is crucialfor ex.
Like I said, accessingeducation services, health,
truly bringing the benefits ofthe digital age to every single
(10:01):
corner of the globe.
While the potential of AI ispromoting equity is vast.
The path isn't without itschallenges.
Implementing AI solutionsrequires infrastructure,
training and ongoing support, ofcourse, and education about ai.
Moreover, we must continuouslyensure that these ai systems
(10:25):
themselves are free of biasesthat could perpetuate existing
inequalities.
So it can make it worse, andthat's why we have to be very
careful.
But as we look at the future, the goal is clear to harness AI
not just for the sake ofinnovation, but for the
promotion of equity.
This means policymakers, techdevelopers and communities must
(10:49):
work together to deploy AIresponsibly and, most
importantly, inclusively.
So, as we finish today's cup ofthoughtful discussion, consider
how the AI technologies we havetalked about could impact your
community and beyond.
How can we contribute to thismission of equitable technology
(11:10):
deployment?
Let's all be part of theconversation and part of the
solution.
Thank you for joining me at AICafe Conversations.

cafe ethical and let's AI liftus all.
