Meanwhile, cybercrime costs have skyrocketed to roughly four times the annual budget of the Department of Defense.

While personal safety measures like covering webcams and being suspicious of unsolicited contacts are important, true security demands organizational accountability. "If you don't know what your internet assets are and what your servers are doing, you have no way of protecting them," Jenkinson warns.
