Carl Gustav Jung fue un psicólogo y psiquiatra suizo. Estudió medicina en Zurich, de la cual fue luego director. Colaboró con Freud, pero en 1913 se produjo la separación definitiva entre ellos. Jung denominó su propia doctrina "psicología analítica", y luego "psicología compleja", para distinguirla incluso en el nombre del psicoanálisis de Freud. En 1920 apareció otra obra suya de importancia capital, en la que definió algunas orientaciones fundamentales de la personalidad humana. Hoy recordamos sus palabras:
