What makes a person right with God—faith or works?

In Romans 4:1–12, Paul goes back to the story of Abraham to answer this crucial question. This Sunday, Robin Vonk will explore how Abraham, the great father of faith, was not justified by what he did, but by believing God's promise. Before the law, before circumcision, before any good works—Abraham was counted righteous simply because he trusted God.

This is the gospel in action. We are not made right with God through religious effort, moral performance, or outward signs. We are justified—declared righteous—by faith alone. Jesus Christ has done the work for us: He lived the perfect life we could not live, died the death we deserved, and rose to bring us eternal life. When we trust in Him, His righteousness is credited to us, just as it was to Abraham.

This message is both liberating and humbling. We bring nothing to earn salvation—it is all of grace, received by faith. Whether you've been a Christian your whole life or feel like an outsider, this passage reminds us that the door to God’s family is wide open to all who believe.
