What difference does it make to be justified by faith? In Romans 5:1–11, Paul opens up the rich blessings that flow from being declared righteous through faith in Jesus Christ. Even our sufferings take on new meaning, producing perseverance, character, and a hope that will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit.

At the centre of it all is the cross: “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This is how we know God loves us—not because of our worthiness, but because of His mercy. Jesus took our place, bore our punishment, and rose again to guarantee our reconciliation with God.
