Yes, absolutely.
We have not seen each other inperson since correct me if I'm
wrong, but I'm thinking Januaryof 2021,

Shayne (00:42):
That is correct agent

Ryan (00:44):
we see each other at least once a week.
we talk on the phone probablyseveral times a week.
We text incessantly every singleday.
So it's not like we're notaround each other.
We're just not physically aroundeach other.

Shayne (00:56):
grown mentioned texts that much.

Ryan (00:58):
we have a problem.
We have a problem, but Hey, I'mexcited to spend time with you.
I'm excited to learn more aboutKen Kuhn the area around that.
And we have a great trip plannedin order to help us do that.
So I want to break it down foreverybody, but first I think we
have a very apropos where in theworld is all things travel.

Shayne (01:17):
Benito Juarez, Quintana, roo, AKA.

Ryan (01:22):
Yeah.
Quintana Roo is the area ofCancun kind of the municipality
of Cancun.
So that's awesome.
We're so glad you're listening.

Shayne (01:30):
since the episode is about what we're going to do in
Cancun, we'll save that for in afew minutes.

Ryan (01:36):
Reach out to me, listener in Cancun, because I have a
little gift for you for beingfeatured on the show.
You can reach out via email.
You can reach out on theFacebook group.
We would love to hear from you.
um don't hold any offense.
If we're wrong with informationon this episode.

Shayne (01:55):
You know what, and just for practice, I'm going to throw
in gracias para escuchar.

Ryan (02:00):
Very nice chain.
Very nice.
on a later episode, I'm going tothrow in some Hawaiian.
So we'll be even.

Shayne (02:06):
Excellent.
Before we get started Ryan, onemore thing.
As of today's recording, wereached 20,000 downloads.

Ryan (02:14):
That's awesome

Shayne (02:15):
that is awesome because.
We reached our second 20,000 inless than half the time.
It took us to reach the first10,000 and Ryan and I are super
grateful for that and want tothank you for every minute that
you've listened to our sweet, sweet voices.

Ryan (02:33):
Absolutely.
We love doing this.
Part of the fun, more than partof the fun is when folks reach
out and, and whether it's thefolks that have been featured on
the show, whether it's friendsthat we know that listen, or
whether it's folks that we knowthat just randomly say, I
listened to you guys every week.
That's awesome.
We love it.
And we're so thankful for you.

(02:54):
This is what we're doing.
Our agency Creating MagicVacations, group of agents and
our agency owners are going on.
What's called a fam trip or afamiliarization trip and travel
agents.
Do this tour operators do this, basically to learn about
properties, to better help theirclients, their guests pick the

(03:17):
right properties for them.
I've been on a couple of thesetrips.
There are a lot of fun andthere's also a lot of education
involved.
So we're going to be doing a lotof sightseeing resort, seeing an
understanding these properties.

Shayne (03:31):
It's a business.

Ryan (03:33):
It is.
it very much, I mean, peoplekind of look at you when you're
like, yeah, I'm going to be inCancun for a business trip, but
it really is a business trip.
Now we obviously are staying ata very nice, all inclusive
resort, which we'll talk abouthere in a second.
but there's a lot businessaspects to it.
We are staying in a charismaproperty and if you've traveled

(03:53):
to Mexico or Dominican Republic,um, you may have heard of
charisma before.
Charisma is a group ofall-inclusive resorts that has
kind of everything you wouldwant.
So there's adults only.
There's family style, uh,resorts.
Their names.
You might've heard of our Azuls.

(04:15):
You may have heard of Eldorado.
I'm sure you've heard ofMargaritaville.
And then also Nickelodeonresorts and I've had friends go
there with their kids that arevery small a wonderful time.
There they've got resortsthroughout Mexico.
They've got resorts in PuntaCana and they have one resort in
Jamaica.
So this is a very common placefor people that look for when it

(04:36):
comes to vacation.
we are staying at the AzulBeach, Riviera my Cancun, right.

Shayne (04:43):
Yeah, that is where we're staying and I'm super
excited about this place.
It looks like it's going to be ablast gorgeous resort.
Pools, gorgeous bars, bars aremade to be gorgeous.

Ryan (04:55):
That's true, especially when they're swimming at pars in
the pool.

Shayne (04:58):
there's a lot of swim up bars for us

Ryan (05:00):
Yeah.

Shayne (05:00):
out on a work trip.
We're going to have to bediligent to make sure that we
experience all of that so thatwe can report back.

Ryan (05:08):
This is true.
I will create a checklist and Iwill print it out on a word
document and I will take it on aclipboard and have it in the
pool with me.

Shayne (05:18):
The planners will all be very pleased with that.

Ryan (05:21):
Okay.
All right.
No, I won't do that, but I, Ihave been geeky like that in the
past.
Anyway.
I mean, this is.
As it will, beach is an amazingresort.
It's a family resort and it'sgot kind of the, the
prototypical resort.
All inclusive menu with it.
There are multiple, spaces.

(05:41):
There are adults only spaces.
There's multiple restaurants andbars, pools, spas.
This is a, they have weddingsand events here.
They have meetings here.
This is going to be a greatresort to see.
And then as part of our time, Weare going to be touring other
resorts.
So part of our time is to go toa Nickelodeon resort or a

(06:02):
Margaritaville resort or anEldorado, and to get to
understand what these resortsare and how they're different,
so that when you come to Shaneand me to talk about your all
inclusive vacation, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, we can help
you decide what makes sense foryou.

Shayne (06:19):
there are several different types of resort in the
charisma family, and we'll beable to help decide which one is
the best for you.

Ryan (06:26):
here's what I want to do.
As far as folks on the Facebookpage, next week, and while we're
away, we're obviously going tobe posting a lot.
We're going to be, sharingcontent, but we want to answer
your questions if it's aboutcharisma properties
specifically, or if it's abouttraveling to Cancun, or if it's

(06:46):
about staying in an allinclusive resort.
As an adult group or familygroup, we want to answer your
questions.
So ahead and reach out to us onthe Facebook group.
Like I said, we'll put up acouple posts, but we want you to
be proactive to send us amessage, send us a Facebook
posts.
We want to answer thosequestions for you These are

(07:07):
amazing vacations.
I love the Cancun area.
I love staying in all inclusiveresort.
I've done it as an adult couple.
I've done it with, as a familygroup.
Now I'm going to do it with somefriends, for a business trip.
is a great way to vacation.

Shayne (07:25):
And you should consider turning on notifications for the
group because we may go live nowand then with some information,

Ryan (07:31):
Yeah, absolutely.

Shayne (07:33):
some silliness and just show you how you can have fun
and you a little bit of funourselves.

Ryan (07:39):
To get us, excited about this trip and to help you
understand Cancun a little bitbetter, we're just going to give
you some highlights of what it'slike to travel to Cancun and
some things to consider whenyou're planning your next Cancun
vacation.
the number one question I getwhen I talk to people about
traveling to Mexico is Cancunsafe.

(08:01):
That's the number one questionthat I have.
how do you address thatquestion?

Shayne (08:06):
I had to do some research to figure out why
people think Cancun isn't safe

Ryan (08:12):
Yeah.

Shayne (08:13):
and it's like any other city or any other foreign
country, you have to payattention to your surroundings
where you're going.
Remember back to our scarytravel stories.

Ryan (08:23):
Yeah.

Shayne (08:24):
wandered off the resort into an area, they told us not
to go into

Ryan (08:28):
And that was not canned Coon by the way.

Shayne (08:30):
that was not Cancun.
If someone were to ask me aboutOSHA Rios being safe, I wouldn't
be as confident about that as Iam about Cancun being safe.

Ryan (08:38):
I think to be honest, I think a lot of it has to do with
media portrayal.
whether it's television shows orthings like that, people have a
certain connotation of whatthey're going to get there.
That's not what you're going toget in the canned Kuhn Riviera
Maya.
This is a major tourist areafor, uh, Quintana roo.

(09:00):
And for Mexico, they keep theseareas very safe.
Like Shane said, it, this is noworse than going to a larger
city as far as needing to keepaware and knowing your
surroundings.
But there is probably a languagebarrier if you don't speak
fluent Spanish.
And I would say, with the thingsto look out for.

(09:22):
If you aren't looking for them, they're not gonna find you.

Shayne (09:25):
Well, And one of the things that I.
People were concerned aboutgenerally involved travelers,
doing things that they shouldn'tbe

Ryan (09:33):
Right.
Exactly.

Shayne (09:34):
want to do a lot.
And a lot of it was people topurchase some type of drugs
while they were there too.
I get to enjoy while they'rethere.
And like one of the articlesthat I read said, if you can't
go on a vacation without needingsome kind of drugs, maybe you
shouldn't be right.
Don't, don't go on the vacation

Ryan (09:51):
Yeah.

Shayne (09:52):
Don't buy that there because that's gonna introduce
you to those types of peoplewhere something dangerous could
happen and take you into thoseareas where something dangerous
could happen.

Ryan (10:00):
Yeah.
So, so no, I have traveled toCancun multiple times.
It is not unsafe.
Do you need to make some plansahead of time and know what
you're doing?
Absolutely.
But as you've heard on thisshow, we recommend you do that
anywhere.
So let's talk Shane aboutgetting to Cancun.
How's the airport.

Shayne (10:20):
It is crazy.

Ryan (10:22):
It can be.
And, and, and what you're goingto find when you go to Cancun is
they actually have a really nicemodern airport.
Again, this is a major touristdestination in Mexico for people
from all over the world.
So the airport itself is very, very nice.
Now what happens is, and whatI've got in the notes here is

(10:44):
you have to be ready for thehustle.
Don't you.

Shayne (10:46):
The hustle.
That's a good way to put it.

Ryan (10:48):
Once you get your bags.
Once you go through customs, you're going to go through these
sliding doors.
And you've heard me talk aboutthis on the podcast before you
basically have to run a gun.
Of folks wanting to provide youservices, to provide you
transfers, up for excursions.
Some people assume you don'thave a hotel room to go to.

(11:11):
So they want to book you therethey will walk up to you and
they will ask you if you needany help and they will talk to
you.
You are in no danger whatsoever.
just hustling pretty hard.
my advice when I talked toclients, You're going to be
meeting your transfer outsidethat second set of doors.
Just walk straight through.

(11:32):
Don't talk to anybody.
Don't interact with anybody, just walk straight through and
you'll be perfectly fine.
Now, when you get outside tokind of the patio area where all
the transfers are.
You're also going to be met withlots of people with signs and
things like that.
this brings me to my next area.
How do you get around?

(11:54):
sure in Cancun you have, yourtransfers are ranged.
This is not a place to savemoney.
On your vacation.
So whether it's through yourresort or whether it's through a
private company that your traveladvisor is set up for, you know,
what you're looking for andevery canned Coon resort that
I've worked with will send veryexplicit directions.

(12:15):
Your driver will meet you with asign that looks like this.
They will be in this color poloshirt, please proceed directly
to them.
once you go, you're going tounderstand that you do need to
have that level of detail, because I have had people Shane
and that gauntlet of folks inthe highway or in the hallway
actually come up and they seethe papers that I'm holding and

(12:36):
they're like, oh yeah.
You're when you're looking forso-and-so that's us over here.
And it wasn't.

Shayne (12:41):
pretend to be who you

Ryan (12:43):
Yeah,

Shayne (12:43):
to ride with.

Ryan (12:44):
and again, they're just trying to get business.
You just ignore it.
You go out, you look for theperson you're supposed to have
that stuff.
Prearranged and travel advisorscan help you with that.
Your resort can help you withthat.
Whether it's paid, whether it'sincluded in your vacation,
please, please, please take careof it.

Shayne (13:01):
And chances are, if you use one of their services to get
to where you're going, you wouldprobably make it.
safely.

Ryan (13:07):
Oh, absolutely.

Shayne (13:09):
it's better to go ahead and arrange for that in advance.
Instead of having to wonder, when you, when you just find
someone from the airport or theyfind you and you travel with
them versus having itprearranged And knowing exactly
who you're riding with, who theywork for and where they're
taking you.

Ryan (13:25):
And how much it's going to cost too,

Shayne (13:27):
And.

Ryan (13:28):
it other than a tip for your driver or a tip for the
Porter, that's helping you withyour bag.
You've already paid for that.
And it's one less thing to worryabout.
you get to an airport and if Ican prearrange stuff and it
takes a variable way, I almostalways do that Shane.

Shayne (13:44):
Yeah.
Great for convenience and forsafety.

Ryan (13:46):
So let's talk a little bit about the Cancun area, because
if, as you start to play in yourvacation, there's a lot of
different segments, that pop upthat make up the canned Coon
area.
So, uh, the Quintana Roo area,if you will.
So let's talk through those.

Shayne (14:03):
so up there at the Northern end, just east, the
city of Cancun, east of theairport, that's the hotel's zone

Ryan (14:10):
And it's like, it's a strip.
I mean, it's, it's a literalstrip with a lagoon on one side
and, uh, and the beach on the.

Shayne (14:16):
Probably the most active for nightlife and maybe partying
that type of thing.
Although there are severalall-inclusive family resorts
there too.

Ryan (14:25):
And so shame the hotels zone from, from airport to the
very top is about a half an hourdrive.
So most likely if you're stayingin the hotels zone, you're
probably 15 minutes from theairport, unless you're staying
at the very tip of that islandarea there.

Shayne (14:41):
Yeah, that's something to think about when you're
planning your trip.
Do you want something quieter ordo you want something closer to
the airport?
Because that's going to be a bigpart of deciding where to stay,

Ryan (14:51):
Now if we want a little quieter, but we still want to
stay on the north side of theCancun area.
What would be a, what would bea, an option there?

Shayne (14:59):
Islam Isla Mujeres

Ryan (15:01):
oh, tell us about that.

Shayne (15:02):
It's an island, so you'll have to take a ferry to
get across to east Isla Mujeres, and it is quieter, probably a
little nicer and maybe thebiggest advantage of, of the
island Mujeres if you can stayon the west side of the way it's
situated in the Caribbean there, you're going to have a lot less
of the seaweed on that.

Ryan (15:24):
there's a couple of resorts that I'm certainly
eyeing on that island to, tostay, on one of my Cancun trips.
Absolutely.
So we start to make our waysouth.
Out of Cancun proper away fromthe airport.
And then we enter the areacalled Riviera Maya.
And if you see resorts that arelisted as Riviera Maya, they

(15:46):
could be.
10 minutes from the airport, they could be an hour or longer
away from the airport.
So this is important when you'rechoosing a resort, how far do
you want to be from the airport?
When my family stayed at HardRock Riviera Maya, we were
probably 40, a good 45 minutedrive in good track from the

(16:07):
airport to the resort.
If traffic was, it was a littleheavier, it would be a good hour
or so to get down there.
And we were in the heart of theRiviera Maya, our resort that
we're going to be staying atnext week.
It's about.
A 25 minute drive from theairport.

Shayne (16:23):
That is, those are going to show up whether it's

Ryan (16:26):
Yeah, absolutely.

Shayne (16:28):
from the airport, both of those are going to show up
when you search for resorts inCancun.

Ryan (16:32):
So for instance, our, our resort is Azul beach Riviera
Maya slash Cancun.
So again, this whole area kindof has the same, you know, it's
kind of like searching for ahotel in New York City.
Well, that could be anywherewithin, you know, miles radius.
So just keep that in mind aswe're moving south and we head

(16:52):
into Playa car and Playa DelCarmen about an hour south of
the year.

Shayne (16:57):
And that is still lets those are towns pueblos inside
the Riviera Maya across thewater from Playa Del Carmen is
where you would find the islandof Cozumel, which is a really
fun destination too.
Good to know is that it's notlike east Isla Mujeres, where if
you're on the west side ofCozumel, the beaches there don't
have that same protection fromthe seaweed.
So you still might have a littlebit.

Ryan (17:19):
Yeah.
And we've brought up seaweed acouple of times, Shane and,
seaweed is an issue in theCancun Riviera Maya area.
And to be quite honest, There isno rhyme or reason.
There is no better time thanothers.
There's no temperature thatdictates anything.
It is really sometimes they'reseaweed on the beach.

(17:41):
Sometimes they're seaweed in thewater.
Sometimes they're seaweed inboth.
Sometimes you have no seaweed atall.
And yes, there are places thatyou have a better chance not
having seaweed.
Your any resort can have it.
They are certainly makingefforts to make it less, and
that should not keep you fromgoing to the resort, but that is

(18:04):
certainly thing to keep in mind.

Shayne (18:06):
And that's something to keep in mind.
for anywhere in the Caribbeantoo.
It's not just going to be thatQuintana area.

Ryan (18:13):
as we continue further south the resort areas become a
little further.
Apart from each other, the townsbecome a little smaller and we
are going to hit some smallertowns and a well-known resort
area is Akumal and Akumal isnorth of Talum, and you've

(18:34):
certainly heard of balloons.

Shayne (18:35):
Oh, yes.

Ryan (18:36):
what's interesting though, is people think of Talum as a
destination.
However, what they're actuallythinking of is the resorts along
the beach, 15 minutes outside ofTalum which is fine.
There's nothing wrong with that.
But Talum town.
Has some hotels has some areasto stay, but it's not on the

(18:56):
beach.
And it's much smaller than mostpeople think.
So Tulum proper tends to bemore, a place that you go during
the day to sight-see where Tulumthe resorts along the coast are
tend to be where you stay andTulum from Cancun airport all
the way down to Tulum it's aboutan hour and a half.

Shayne (19:16):
There are some nice Boutique hotels into loan, but
you're not going to find anyall-inclusive resorts there and
Not, any beach resorts withinTulum.

Ryan (19:25):
You will outside along the coast.

Shayne (19:27):
And not as many, there are definitely a few on the
coast.
near Tulum, but, if you'rewanting an all-inclusive resort,
More than likely going to bestaying north of there nor in
Cozumel, Riviera Maya Cancun,proper area.
But there,

Ryan (19:43):
yeah,

Shayne (19:43):
are.
A handful Tulum and therethey're really nice.
going to be more, lot of the,um, the eco-friendly

Ryan (19:51):
Yes.
Yup.

Shayne (19:52):
live and there are a lot smaller.
In fact, I've found some whereyou could rent, they call it a
resort, but you're essentiallyrenting a big house.
So it'd be for a group to go andstay at this place.
Yeah, if you're more into natureand natural surroundings or want
a quieter Tulum is going to be.

Ryan (20:09):
I like it.
So that's just to give you alittle primmer of all the
different areas you're going toencounter.
As you're looking at a trip,you're booking a trip.
So Shane, as we wrap up here, what are you most excited about
next week when we're in theCancun?

Shayne (20:25):
I should probably say something about the resort or
the area, but I think justhanging out.
with some travel advisor, friends that's going to be the
most fun part.
I certainly want to have someauthentic Mexican food.
If it's available.

Ryan (20:37):
I think that's a must.
I don't even think that's an ifwe can.
So I always love to seedifferent properties, to help
people plan because when I seeit, when I stay there, when I
know it, I can talk about itfrom firsthand now, It's a much
better conversation with aclient, but the same with you.
I mean, we're going with somereally good people.

(20:59):
We're going with some of ourcloser friends and it's going to
be a lot of fun and you and Iare going to have some fun
podcasting doing lives.

Shayne (21:09):
Yeah.
it's been a lot of times we'veboth been to places where the
pictures didn't match up withwhat we saw when we got there.
So it's nice to be able to seethese places and be able to
explain the differences betweenthem and let travelers know for
sure what they can expect

Ryan (21:22):
Yeah.

Shayne (21:23):
they arrive at these resort.

Ryan (21:25):
So, Hey, follow along next week again, we're going to be
there Friday to choose.
So you want to join the Facebookgroup if you have not yet.
