Show 249 - Yazmin Todd “FĒI LÍN” - Musician/Horse Trainer

Yazmin Todd (FĒI LÍN) is a 24 year old, horse trainer, support worker and indie jazz folk musician of Singaporean Chinese and NZ European descent. She was born in Ōtautahi, Christchurch, with an upbringing shaped by the lush landscapes of Piha beach and the Tutukaka coast, Yazmin has lived in the Coromandel for the past 4 years, always feeling at home nestled in the bush with the sea in sight.

Having a childhood close to nature has kept her close to the nature of her heart, and to follow her passions. She has a great love and curiosity for animals, art, music, writing, the environment, holistic health, and living (Ayurveda, Yoga and Permaculture).

Since moving to the Coromandel area, she has ventured into the joy of creating and sharing music. She released her first single last year, “The River Beneath Us,” and plans to release her latest recorded song, “Love is a Ladder” later this year. She is fascinated by the many lives and identities we can have within life and getting to meet the various versions of herself as she grows on her journey.

ALTBAYS Table Talk invites awesome people from Aotearoa to have an honest, laid-back conversation. Our platform focuses on bringing communities together to grow and thrive.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
