The calendar flips to October and the air feels heavier—yet there’s a pulse of hope running through it. We sit with that tension and talk frankly about awareness that actually heals: mental health beyond buzzwords, breast cancer beyond pink, and domestic violence beyond stereotypes. Instead of glossy slogans, we lean into the messy truth of mornings that feel impossible, bodies that hold old stories, and choices that take courage one small step at a time.

You’ll hear a brief, guided grounding practice you can repeat anywhere:
If this conversation resonates, share it with someone who needs a steady hand today. Subscribe for more grounded, trauma-informed reflections, and leave a review to help others find the show. Your voice matters—what truth are you wearing this month?

SPEAKER_00 (01:12):
That song It's Beautiful You Are by Ruby and
Manfo.
It's one of my favorite songs.
And welcome to episode two ofseason seven.
And to my new listeners,welcome.

(01:33):
I'm Lorraine, your host, or I'mRedactor.
Oh, I've had a journey to thispoint.
I've been many lives.
But my current life, I am apsychotherapist specializing in
trauma, holistic care,trauma-informed, somatic

(01:54):
informed, CBT-informed care.
And this is my podcast, Am IThere Yet?
And this is a space where wekind of just slow down, you
know, get real and talk aboutwhat it means to heal, to grow,

(02:16):
and to find our way into life'smessenger.
You know that.
So what are we gonna talk aboutthis evening?
We are in October already.
We've entered into the lastquarter of the calendar year
already.

(02:37):
It felt like just it was justChristmas yesterday.
But October ushers in a certainheaviness tinged with hope.
You know, nobody you look aroundin October and all you see just
blankets of pink and a breastcancer awareness, breast cancer

(02:57):
awareness.
But this month also so alsoraises some other issues.
It's mental health awarenessmonth, it's domestic violence
awareness month, it's child lossmonth, and yes, it is breast
cancer awareness month.

(03:18):
But let's for now we're tonighttoday.
And I've just settled in to havethis conversation.
Because these conversationstouch every one of us in some

(03:43):
ways.
Whether you're facing you faceillness yourself, whether you've
had to support someone throughit, survived an abusive
relationship, or just simplylive through seasons of quiet
struggle with your own mind.
This episode, yeah, let's getinto it.

(04:05):
Because healing isn't somethingthat belongs to a single group,
it's a universal story and itconnects us all.
So this October, we're pausingand reflecting, not just on the
statistics or rhythms, but onthe people.
Mental awareness isn't justabout anxiety or depression,

(04:29):
it's about that silent battle inthe mornings when getting out of
bed feels impossible.
It's the mask we wear to work, and that laugh you give when
you're trying to hide thatexhaustion.

(04:51):
Breast cancer awareness remindsus of bodies that we that have
fought wars we can't see.
You know, it's about the scars, the courage, the redefining of
beauty, and it's about women andmen.
Because sometimes people seem toforget that men also get, you
know, get you know sufferthrough breast cancer.

(05:15):
So whether you're male orfemale, you know, just standing
in front of a mirror and saying,I am still here.
And then there's a topic ofdomestic violence awareness, and
this reminds us of voices thatare often silenced and that

(05:38):
power required to reclaim them.
It's about survival, not shame.
Survival, not shame, it's aboutthe man who finally leaves and
that woman who finally tells, and the child who finally feels

(06:00):
safe.
Different experiences, yes, butyou know, there's a shared
friend between these threetopics, and that is the courage
to keep going.
So this evening I want to talk, just speak honestly, just have a

(06:22):
talk about awareness becauseawareness without honesty is
just nice, seriously, and so thething we we hear this all the
time that healing is not linear, there are days when you feel
strong, and others when you willjust break down and wonder if
you've undone all your progress, but healing doesn't mean you

(06:49):
never fall apart again, youknow.
It means you know how to rebuildwhen you do.
You don't stop gettingtriggered, you just stop getting
triggered as often, and you knowyou know situations to avoid,

(07:10):
you know how to circumventcertain conversations.
So maybe your story includestherapy sessions, sleepless
nights, hospital visits, quietprayers, or silent tears.
Maybe smart by resilience thatyou didn't even know you had.

(07:37):
And if you're listening andyou've never faced these
experiences directly, this monthis about empathy.
Because holding space for otherswithout judgment, without
judgment, because we have toremember that pain in its many

(08:02):
forms doesn't discriminate, itvisits us all, whether we're
male, female, young, old, curious, cautious, broken, or
becoming.

(08:24):
You know what I mean?
But we have to remember theylive in the same house.
When the body suffers, the mindremembers.
When the mind suffers, the bodykeeps going.
And whether it's trauma fromabuse, whether it's the anxiety

(08:45):
that lingers after illness, orthe fear that comes from
knowing, not knowing whattomorrow holds, it all lives
within us.
So part of awareness islistening inward, you know,
noticing how our shoulders tensewhen we're afraid, how our

(09:08):
breast shortens when we'reanxious, you know, how our heart
feels heavy when we're grieving.
And so I'm gonna invite you notto fight your body, but to
return to it, to treat it likean ally and not an enemy.

(09:36):
So we're gonna take a fewminutes, we're gonna pause in
the middle of my con orconversation, and we're going to
do a somatic practice.

(09:57):
Let's just take a few minutes tojust be here.
So if you're able, find acomfortable place to sit, shake
your shoulders, shake yourshoulders, yes, rest your feet

(10:21):
on the floor, close your eyes,or just soften your gaze.
Take a deep breath through yournose and exhale gently through
your mouth.

(10:45):
Now bring one hand to your heartand one hand to your belly.
Let's feel the warmth of yourpalms, the rise and fall of your

(11:07):
breath, and whisper quietly toyourself.
I am still here.

(12:07):
Still matters.
If you face illness, offer yourbody gratitude, it is carrying.

(12:35):
Offer your heart grace, it isstill capable of love.
If you face mental struggle, offer your mind compassion, it

(12:56):
has tried to protect you.
You are not broken, you arerebuilding, center down, move

(13:18):
your neck, move your jaw, andcome back, exhale.

(13:40):
So whether you're male or femaleor somewhere in between, this
episode isn't about labels, it'sabout the human experience.

(14:00):
And we all bleed, we all cry, weall heal.
And so what I'm invited to youto do maybe this October, that
awareness may mean reaching outto check on a friend.
Maybe it means scheduling thatmammogram or calling that

(14:24):
therapist.
Maybe it's leaving arelationship that's been slowly
destroying you, or simply decidethat this is time you are this
time you're going to choose you.

(14:46):
Awareness is the beginningpiece, but compassion,
compassion for yourself, forothers, that's the real
medicine.
So before we close, I want toremind you that you don't have

(15:07):
to be perfect to be worthy, youdon't have to be strong all the
time to be resilient.
You're allowed to heal softlyand slowly.
And this October, wear yourribbon if it feels right, but
also wear your truth.

(15:29):
Because awareness is not justabout recognition, it's about
reclaiming our stories.
So this October, that's whatwe're doing.

(15:53):
We are reclaiming our stories, and this is the rain, Irie Data.
And you've been listening to AmI There Yet?
Short and sweet.
Until next time.
Remember, you are not alone, andyou're not your pain.

(16:18):
You are your thing.

(16:57):
You are perseverance.
And you are beautiful.
Until next time.
We're all this is your reminderthat we're all out in ourselves.
Am I there yet?
Bye bye, peeps.
