Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, everyone, Welcome back to the Amani Talks podcast. You're
here with your host Amani on the podcast where we
discuss our faith based topics and deepening our relationship with
the Lord. You guys, it's so funny that I'm just
like updoing this Proverbs a day. I would consider myself
like a soft morning person. I'm not a hard morning
so for me to be getting up at six am

(00:22):
to get these out at eight am, it's like, this
is so unlike me, But it's so funny. This proves
that God has a sense of humor. Because I have
been praying and asking and kind of thinking about like, man,
like I do want to start getting up earlier. I
want my day to be more productive. And God said, oh,
you want to get up earlier. Okay, but like, and
this is like my way of getting up earlier. For

(00:43):
my viewers that are watching the podcast, you will be
seeing my lights flickering. I have not asked maintenance to
come change my light bulbs yet, so yeah, it's gonna
look a little ghetto over here, but that's okay, all right.
It is Thursday morning, July third, and we are on
Proverbs three. Continuing on in our proverb a day challenge.

(01:04):
So let's go ahead and get right into it by
reading through Proverbs three, and then we'll get into our
key verses, our favorite portions, and all that good stuff.
All right, Proverbs three, My son, do not forget my law,
but let your heart keep my commands. For length of
days and long life and peace they will add to you.
Let not mercy and truth forsake you. Bind them around

(01:27):
your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart,
and so find favor and high esteem in the sight
of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all
your heart, and lean not on your own understanding and
all your ways. Acknowledge Him, and he shall direct your paths.
Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord,
and apart from evil, it will be health to your

(01:48):
flesh and strength to your bones. Honor the Lord with
your possessions, and with the first fruits of all your increase,
so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your
vats will overflow with new wine. My son, do not
despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest his correction.
For whom the Lord loves, he corrects just as a
father the son, and whom he delights. Happy is the

(02:10):
man who find who finds wisdom, and the man who
gains understanding. For her proceeds are better than the profits
of silver, and her gain than fine gold. She is
more precious than rubies, and all the things you may
desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in
her right hand, and her left hand riches in honor.
Her ways are of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

(02:33):
She is a tree of life to those who take
hold of her, and happy are all who retain her.
The Lord, by wisdom founded the earth by understanding. He
established the heavens. By his knowledge, the depths were broken up,
and clouds drop down the dew. My son, let them
not depart from your eyes. Keep sound, wisdom, and discretion,
so they will be life to your soul and grace

(02:55):
to your neck. Then you will walk safely in your way,
and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down,
you will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down,
and your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid
of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when
it happens, for the Lord will be your confidence and
will keep your foot from being caught. Do not withhold
good from those to whom it is due, when it

(03:17):
is in the power of your hand to do so.
Do not say to your neighbor, go and come back,
and tomorrow I will give it to you when you
have it with you. Do not devise evil against your neighbor,
for he dwells by you. For safety's sake, do not
strive with a man without cause, if he has done
you no harm. Do not envy the oppressor, and choose
none of his ways. For the perverse person is an
abomination to the Lord, But his secret counsel is with

(03:40):
the upright. The curse of the Lord is on the
house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of
the just. Surely he scorns the scornful, but gives grace
to the humble. The wise shall inherit glory, but shame
shall be the legacy of fools. Well, Chapter three was
definitely a mouthful. So what I read through chapter three,

(04:01):
I did notice it had a unique structure that I
don't think that I found in the first two proverbs.
So you can break Proverbs three up into three sections,
well really kind of like four sections. But the first
section from about verse one to verse twelve. It follows
a pattern of instruction and encouragement, which is immediately followed

(04:24):
by the promise of what we gain when we followed
those instructions. So when we look through those first twelve verses,
we can reread them and give a couple of examples.
Starting in verse one, Solomon writes, my son, do not
forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands.
And then immediately we see the promise of what you
will gain if you do those things for length of

(04:47):
days and long life and peace, they will add to you.
And throughout proverbs, Solomon isn't giving his opinion on what
you should do, what I think you should do. We
all know that the entire Bible is is God breathed,
God inspired. He's basically writing it himself, right, So Solomon
is really working through the Holy Spirit. The Lord is

(05:07):
writing this pretty much using Solomon. So it's not Solomon's
laws that will add lengths to your days and peace.
These are the words from God that Solomon is writing down. Remember,
God is the one that gave Solomon wisdom. He's the
one that gave Solomon understanding to be able to even
write these proverbs. So we see the instruction first keep

(05:28):
my law, let your heart keep my commands, and immediately
we see what we gain from that, a long life,
a peaceful life. Another example, verse seven, do not be
wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord, and depart
from evil. Immediately it gives us what we gain from that.
It will be health to your flesh and strength to
your bones. In a previous podcast episode, we talked about

(05:49):
how sin doesn't just affect you, maybe emotionally from the regret.
It does not just affect your relationship with God, even
though that's definitely the biggest effect, you know, the most
painful for us. It also physically weakens you, like sin
physically weakens you. We talked about how David wrote in
the Psalms about how the sin that I'm not sure

(06:10):
what sin was, you know, committed. I'm sure that he's
probably talking about the whole thing with Bethsheba, since that
really seemed to be like David's biggest thing besides him
being a bad father. But he talks about how his
sin chastised him in a way that he found no
strengthen his bones, like his flesh was like eating him up.

(06:32):
He was physically getting the repercussions of his sin. So
Solomon here is saying, if we fear the Lord and
depart from evil, it's health to our flesh and strength
to our bones. So we have a strong, healthy life.
So that's the pattern that I saw in the first
twelve verses, just reiterating that to where we saw an
instruction and encouragement to follow that instruction and the promise

(06:56):
of what we gained when we obey and follow. Then
in that next second of scripture, verses thirteen through twenty six,
Solomon talks more about wisdom. Of course, because we know
Proverbs is all about wisdom. You will see the word
or read or hear the word wisdom several times in
every chapter of Proverbs. Okay, So he talks about wisdom,

(07:17):
the beauty of wisdom. He describes what life looks like
for us when we are constantly seeking it. So some
key mentions that I saw that I wrote down our
longevity of life. We already talked about that. But just
going back to a couple verses in that section, verse thirteen,
it says happy is the man who finds wisdom, and
you skip down to about fifteen, it says she is

(07:38):
more precious than rubies, and all the things you may
desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in
her right hand and her left hand of riches and honor.
So we see a reiterated wisdom instruction following instruction. Godly
fear brings longevity of life, It brings safety and also
sound sleep. And this is something that I think was

(08:00):
also talked about in Proverbs too, when we go back
down to verse which versus this verse twenty four, when
you lie down, you will not be afraid. Yes, you
will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet. I
just love how God cares about how we sleep. He
cares about us getting good rest. He cares about sleep

(08:20):
and rest. And that's a theme that's also found throughout
the New Testament and Old Testament about how the Lord
really values when we rest. He dedicated a whole day
of the week to not working, rest the Sabbath, keep
it holy, and that's something that we should still be
exercising today. No, you should not be working on Sunday.
I know it's enticing, especially as entrepreneurs when you don't

(08:43):
have that set nine to five Monday through Friday schedule
and you're constantly trying to get out content or constantly
trying to make us sale. You should be consecrating a
day to the Lord for rest. It's important to him
that we rest in him. So in that section of
Proverbs three, we just find there's the beauty of wisdom.
Another thing that I really like that he mentioned is

(09:05):
how the Lord created the earth with wisdom and understanding.
He says, the Lord by wisdom founded the earth by understanding.
He established the heavens by his knowledge, the depths were
broken up. Then that next section of scripture, verses twenty
seven through thirty two are exhortations. It seems like he's
letting us know what not to do. He's like, do

(09:27):
do not, do not, So let's reread a couple of those.
Do not withhold good from those whom it is due.
Do not devise evil against your neighbor. Do not strive
with a man without cause. Do not envy the oppressor.
So these are just a few things that Solomon is
cautioning us against, and then the chapter ends with encouragement
verses about thirty three through thirty five. It ends, but

(09:50):
his secret council is with the upright. The curse of
the Lord is on the house of the wicked, but
he blesses the home of the just. Surely he scorns
the scornful, but gives grace to the humble. The why
shall inherit glory, but shame shall come to the legacy
of fools. So that's caution and encouragement, cautioning against being
a fool, cautioning against going against these exhortations, caution against

(10:16):
being prideful scornful, because if you are any of those things,
you will not inherit glory. So it's definitely a caution.
I think that Proverbs three has a lot of instruction
and it has a lot of promise in it as well.
So let's get into the key verse. Of course, y'all
heard me say it. Y'all heard people say it a

(10:36):
thousand times, so we have to highlight this as the
key verse. It's actually two versus verses five through six.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean
not on your own understanding. In all your ways, Acknowledge Him,
and he shall direct your past. A famous section of scripture.
I know y'all have heard that before. I definitely love

(10:57):
that scripture. It reminds me to not think of my
self as a smarty pants, don't think that I haven't
figured out. And it also reminds me that nothing is
too small to bring to the Lord. It says, in
all your ways, acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.
So when it comes to my job, my family, my friends,
when it comes to my dating life, when it comes
to how well I sleep at night, the exercise, I

(11:19):
get what I should eat, and all my ways acknowledge Him.
And if I'm acknowledging God with everything that I do,
then it's very little room for me to slip up, right,
because if I acknowledge Him, where does pride come in
in that? And that's where we slip up the most,
pride thinking that we have all figured out, thinking oh,
you know, yeah, I know what God says, but it's

(11:41):
always that butt. But if we're always acknowledging Him, that
means that we're always submitting our will to him. We're
always saying, I can't do this without God. And once
I do it and I achieve it, it came from God,
it just nips the problem at the butt. No room
for us to be puffed up, no room for us
to think that we are wise in our own eyes.

(12:03):
So that's definitely a famous portion of scripture. So Verses
five through six are our key versus for the day.
But my favorite part just in general for Proverbs three
is not really any small section. It's really I just
really appreciate verses one through ten because when we get
those instructions or we get that encouragement to follow the

(12:24):
Lord's commands and we immediately see what we gain from
following that, it just reminds me that the whole Bible
is just a cheat code to life. Christians really have
the cheat code. And that's why I'm always encouraging everyone
on my podcast to read the Bible for yourselves, like
really read through it. Don't let your only Bible teaching

(12:44):
or the only time you crack open your Bible be
when you're at your youth group or Sunday morning or
Wednesday night Bible study. Like you need to be opening
that Bible and reading it for yourself in the morning
at night. I love to do it at night. I am,
like you guys already know, like I'm not a morning person.
I'm trying to be one, but my time is at
night when the house is clean and it's ten pm

(13:06):
and I've taken an everything shower and I'm in the
bed and it's clean sheets, and I'm like, oh, Like,
I get to, you know, read a couple chapters because
I just love, you know, already talking about I love
knowing what I'm talking about. I love talking about the Bible.
So I got to make sure that you know I'm
reading up and I really know what I'm talking about.
Coming back to the point, the Bible is really just
our cheat code to life. It's our cheat code to success,

(13:29):
it's our cheat code to health, it's our cheat code
to good sleep. Like verses one through ten are literally
telling you do this and you will gain this. And
I think my favorite example is verse nine, when it
says honor the Lord with your possessions and with the
first fruits of all your increase, so your barns will
be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with
new wine. I think there are a lot of people

(13:52):
that think that there is no blessing and giving back
what the Lord has given you. There is no blessing
in being consistent with your tithing. A lot of people
won't even tie because they feel like, well, I don't
have enough money to tithe. I'm not rich. You know,
all the money I got I gotta keep for my bills.
I'm trying to put extra money on my credit cards.

(14:12):
I'm trying to say for this vacation, I don't have
the extra. But here's the thing. The Lord never asked
you to give extra. The Bible is telling us give
back the first fruits of all your increase. So as
soon as you get paid at that paycheck, that paycheck
isn't extra, it's your first fruit. That paycheck you give
back to God because that paycheck came from Him to

(14:34):
begin with. You wouldn't have it if it wasn't for him.
That's the way you got to look at it. You
can't look at it like, oh, I worked and this
is my money and now I'm giving God a little bit.
That's not the way. This is uh UMBOO. Don't think
about it like that. Think about I'm just giving the
Lord a portion back of what he gave to me.
Thank you for letting me keep ninety eighty percent. I
personally tithe the first ten percent of every income that

(14:56):
I get. So, as a full time content creator and
pretty much a freelancer, as soon as I get that
invoice from the brand, and as soon as they send
me that direct deposit to my bank account, or as
soon as that deposit that invoice hits my PayPal, I
don't even I mean I look at it to see
how much it is. Of course, God make sure they
give me my money. The write them out. Okay, I
don't want to have to blast nobody on TikTok. But

(15:19):
what I do is, I don't even consider. I don't
touch that money. I don't touch that money until I
have seen that I have separated at least ten percent
of that income and it goes to my church. So
I immediately before I transfer that PayPal balance from my
PayPal to my account, I immediately take out ten percent
and send it to my church first, and then I

(15:40):
take out the rest. I make sure that I'm always
giving the first fruits of my increase back to the Lord. Why.
Because I want a successful life. I want increase in
my life. I want my barn to be overflowing. I
want my vats to be overflowing. Like if I want
increase in my life, I want success in my life.
And we're specifically talking about money here, and I think

(16:02):
that as Christians, sometimes we're afraid to talk about money.
Like we shouldn't cared about money, care about money. Money
is important, never more important than the Lord. But money
is important, like we gotta eat, we gotta pay our bills.
The Bible never talks about don't think of money as important.
The Bible talks about don't love money. You should never

(16:23):
idolize money, don't love it, don't chase after it. But
money is important. And I know for me, I definitely
want to be successful. I like to be comfortable, y'all.
I like ease and convenience that money brings me. Not
saying that once again, we don't love it, we don't
chase it, But yeah, I want to be fruit like
I want the increase. And if I want that increase
in my life, if I want to see that, what

(16:43):
am I gonna do? I will give the first fruits
of what I have to the Lord. I will make
sure I'm consistent with that too, not every now and again,
not just when I got the extra money. And sometimes
you know, when it's small, we don't care about it.
It's now that I'm getting these big projects and I'm like, oh, oh,
a thousand I gotta give you know, that's what we
start to be like, oh, but I'm gonna be faithful

(17:05):
in my giving because why I want that increase. The
Bible is a cheat code, y'all. It literally tells you
what the Lord would do for you if you do this,
So why wouldn't I do that? So that's why I
really enjoyed reading through Proverbs three because it just reminds me, like,
as a Christian, I am winning in life. Everybody else
out here is really struggling. They don't know what to do.
They wouldn't know which way is up if you pointed
it out to them. But as Christians, we have the Bible.

(17:27):
We have literally clear instruction. Now, if you don't want
to follow it, then that's another problem. But if you
follow it, the Lord has promises. He has promises that
he will give, he will do, he will keep. And
to me, I love that because that takes so much
weight off my shoulders. Oh I just do this, and
the Lord would do this. Bet y'all, we have the

(17:47):
cheat code. All you gotta do is read it and
follow it and actually apply it to your life, because
it's one thing to read it. We can all read.
I won I hope we can all read. I hope
we all read it. We can all read, but it's
a differ story when you have to apply it to
your life. When you see that practical application, are you
actually doing that? Proverbs three has a lot of practical application,

(18:08):
and that's why I really have enjoyed reading it, and
I hope that you guys have enjoyed reading it also
and going through it. Yeah, good morning to everybody. Good
morning queen on your way to work. I'm up at
six am. My face shiny, I got my SPF phon.
I'm about to change it to my walking clothes. Go
for a little walk. Okay, get my morning started. I
hope that your morning is going well as well. Get

(18:29):
to work, be productive, be up, and yeah, love you guys.
I hope you have enjoyed going through Proverbs three, and
I will see you tomorrow morning for Proverbs four. Bye.
