Amazing Stories with Zaki the
Hoopoe (00:09):
Ramadan Special
Captain Suhail (00:19):
Zaki, I smell
something sweet and sticky and
delicious. Are you hiding datesfrom me again?
Zaki (00:28):
No, captain. I'm actually
thinking about Ramadan.
Captain Suhail (00:30):
Ramadan? You
mean the time where everyone
waits forever to eat and thensuddenly feasts like pelicans at
a picnic.
Zaki (00:38):
That's one way to put it.
But Ramadan is so much more than
just not eating. It's a time toreflect, to be thankful, and to
show kindness and generosity toothers.
Captain Suhail (00:49):
Kindness, I
mean, I do let the baby seagulls
have first pick of the fries atthe dock sometimes. That counts,
right?
Zaki (00:57):
It's a start, Captain
Sohail. But Ramadan is also
about fasting, not just fromfood but from bad habits. It
helps us feel what the poor andhungry feel every day, so we
remember to help them. Oof.
Captain Suhail (01:13):
That sounds
hard, but kinda beautiful too.
Like a test, but the kind thatmakes your heart bigger.
Zaki (01:21):
Exactly. It's about
building self control, patience,
and compassion. We stop focusingon ourselves and think more
about others. So you're tellingme that my belly growling all
afternoon actually helps mebecome a better bird. It sure
does.
But it also reminds us to begrateful for the food we do have
(01:43):
and to share it. Oh,
Captain Suhail (01:47):
speaking of
sharing, I get it now. That's
why you've been packing that bigsack dates.
Zaki (01:53):
Exactly. I thought maybe
we could deliver them to the
village on the island today. They're fasting too, and some of
them don't have enough to breaktheir fast.
Captain Suhail (02:01):
A date delivery
mission? I'm in. As long as I
get to carry the golden ones. They're extra squishy. Just try
not
Zaki (02:10):
to eat them on the way.
Captain Suhail (02:11):
No promises.
Okay. Okay. I'll try. For the
spirit of Ramadan and all that.
Who ordered a thunderstorm?
Zaki (02:27):
Woah. Hold steady. The
wind's picking up fast.
Captain Suhail (02:30):
It was sunny a
minute ago. Why do clouds always
crash the party?
Zaki (02:35):
They do have a way of
showing up uninvited, don't
they?
Captain Suhail (02:37):
This mission
just got a lot messier.
Zaki (02:40):
It's alright. We're still
going. Storm or not, we're not
turning back now.
Captain Suhail (02:51):
No. The golden
ones, the deluxe ones, the
almond stuffed masterpieces.Focus, captain Sohail. We still
have most of them.
Zaki (03:02):
We need to tie the rope
tighter. Quick. Why does this
always happen when we're doingsomething good? You'd think the
sky would give us a break.Sometimes good things are hard
to do, but they're still worthit.
Captain Suhail (03:14):
It's just
everything feels harder when
you're running on empty. Mystomach's making wail sounds.
Zaki (03:22):
Mine too, but maybe that
makes the mission even more
important. The villagers arehungry too. If we're struggling,
imagine them.
Captain Suhail (03:35):
Okay. Alright.
Dates secured. Feathers
drenched. Dignity mostly intact.
Zaki (03:44):
Let's stop over there. It
looks dry and safe. Goodness.
The amount of rain. I won't beneeding a shower for weeks now.
Captain Suhail (03:52):
Oh, no. Zucky,
look. A baby fox. Hello there,
wee one. Are you okay?
Zaki (04:03):
Captain, don't encourage
it. What if it's the bird eating
kinda cub?
Captain Suhail (04:07):
Nonsense, my
good man. When have you known
foxes to eat birds? I mean, lookat me. I'm nearly the same size
as her. You, on the other hand, are a bit more, how shall I put
it, bite sized or I should say, petite.
Oh, feathers. Well, hello,Lassie. What's got your fur
(04:31):
tangled in a knot today?
Fox (04:33):
I I haven't eaten since
yesterday. My mama left to find
food, but she hasn't come backyet.
Zaki (04:41):
Oh, no. I'm so sorry to
hear that. Zucky. She looks like
she hasn't had a proper meal indays. You're right.
We can't ignore her. Not whenwe're carrying all this food.
Fox (04:54):
Are are these for me?
Zaki (04:56):
Yes, all yours. Eat
slowly, little one. These are
special.
Fox (05:01):
Thank you. Thank you so
much.
Zaki (05:04):
That really warms up the
heart, Captain, doesn't it?
Captain. Captain. Are youcrying? What?
Captain Suhail (05:12):
No. What are you
yapping about young beaks? A
captain never cries. You're theone that's crying.
Zaki (05:20):
Oh, my captain. I know
exactly how you feel. When we
help others, it really does warmthe heart, doesn't it?
Captain Suhail (05:27):
Warm the heart?
That wee little tail wiggle just
melted my heart.
Zaki (05:32):
We lost a few dates in the
storm. We gave some to this fox
cub here. We are not doing agreat job on our mission, are
we?
Captain Suhail (05:40):
Aye matey, but
does it really matter Zucky? As
long as we try, that's whatmatters most.
Zaki (05:47):
Maybe you are right,
Captain. The dates we lost in
the storm, maybe some animalwill find them and have a grand
meal. Maybe these dates werealways meant for this little fox
cub.
Captain Suhail (05:59):
You're getting
really wise in your old age,
Zucky.
Zaki (06:02):
Old? I'm in my prime.
Thank you very much.
Fox (06:05):
My mama says sharing is
what makes hearts grow. You two
must have big big hearts.
Captain Suhail (06:12):
Hey, Zucky. Next
time we're on a delivery
mission, let's bring a littleextra just in case more surprise
friends show up.
Zaki (06:20):
Deal. Alright, captain
Sohail. Ready for takeoff?
Captain Suhail (06:24):
Ready as ever.
Let's finish this delivery
strong.
Zaki (06:33):
You made it. We weren't
sure you'd get through the
storm. The wind tried, theclouds tried, but we promised to
deliver. And here we are.
Captain Suhail (06:42):
We lost a few
dates along the way and gave
some to a very hungry fox, butwe still have plenty left for
everyone.
Fox (06:51):
A fox? Really? A talking
fox?
Captain Suhail (06:54):
Yet, you have no
issues with a talking hoopoe and
seagull. These land walkers, Iswear.
Zaki (07:02):
You brought joy to more
than just us today. This is what
Ramadan feels like.
Captain Suhail (07:07):
Yeah. And these
dates taste extra sweet today.
Fox (07:10):
Excuse me, captain seagull.
You gave us dates. So here, this
is for you.
Zaki (07:17):
Looks like someone has an
admirer, captain.
Captain Suhail (07:20):
Okay. I'm
definitely not crying. That's
just date juice in me eye.
Zaki (07:26):
Stay and eat with us.
You've flown far, and tonight,
you're part of our family. Thankyou. That is so kind, and we'd
be honored. Just out ofcuriosity, what's for Iftar
tonight?
Fish and rice. What? Oh no. Anddown he goes. Don't worry folks,
(07:47):
he's not hurt, just overwhelmedby joy, and maybe by the thought
of all that fish.
Ramadan reminds us thatsometimes, the biggest blessings
come in the smallest acts. Adate shared. A meal offered. A
heart touched, even a hungryseagull fainting from happiness.
