Speaker 1 (00:10):
Dance counting down the biggest dance songs in the country.
This is America's Dance thirty.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yes, no, welcome back to America's Dance thirty.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
It has been way too long. How have you been.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Thanks for having me. I mean I've been great.
Speaker 4 (00:28):
Been traveling around world, djaying and producing music.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
So life is.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Good, living the life.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Well before we talk about hot Honey, and before we
talk about your new song Tantalizing, you know, I gotta
tell you, this is the first year in a long
time that I haven't gone to DC and seeing your
photos and videos just gave me so much fomo.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
How was it for you?
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Oh? It was incredible.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
I mean, especially at the all Endo one I like
a lot because the crowd is so into music and
it's it's massive, and it's yeah, it's an amazing place
to play, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yeah, and just seeing the crowds was just incredible. You know,
I've hosted main stage at multiple festivals and luckily I'm
there from start to finish, so I get to see
the crowd building up. But as a DJ that plays
main stage later on, do you have to prep yourself
to just step out on stage in front of tens
(01:26):
upon tens upon tens of thousands of people, because honestly,
it's it's visually overwhelming.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Yeah, no, it is, it is, And I'm prepping for
myself every day, so it's it's like going to the gym,
you know, you got to maintain everything.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
So it's the same my DJ set. Every week things
changed to it. I think some things chased stay the same.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
So yeah, it's every every day I'm working on it
and think about where I'm going to play, what I
want to play there, and every set it's different like that.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
And of course you've been doing this a long time
so you're used to it. But does it take you
a little it in your set to get comfortable.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
No, not really.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
I mean only when things are not going well. Then
I can get really uncomfortable very quick. So you know,
when something's wrong with the equipment, or you play a
track and it didn't go over as you expected, You're like, oh,
I got to change something here, you know, and then
that's that's then I get nervous.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Well, let's talk about stuff that has gone over. Well,
let's talk about hot honey. Congratulations on all the success
with it.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yeah, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
It's been amazing to see my first my first country
dance song I haven't done.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
So it's been great.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
That's so awesome.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
And we chatted with Alana Springsteen last week and she
couldn't stop talking about how much she loves you and
how incredible it was working with you. How was Hot
Honey Born on your end because you had it before
Lana came on to it, right, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
I had the song and I was just looking for
a great vocalist and I had a good click with her,
and then she just nailed it, and I was just like, Okay,
it's great. And then we we shot the video together
and got to know each other better, and she came
singing the song in Vegas with me a couple of times.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
You know.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
It's been really a great collaboration together, you know.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
And we were talking about how incredible it was because
obviously she doesn't come from the EDM world, so performing
in front of an d M crowd, I was like,
it's a totally different world, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Yeah, yeah, but it.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Was definitely something different for her. It's like me going
to the country festival to play I said okay to
people like this.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Or just totally flashing back you performing at the Olympics.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
I mean that was incredible as well.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Absolutely, the Olympics was for me definitely a game changer
back then, and I think for the dance world in general.
Absolutely for the first time I heard about dance back then,
and it was a whole different world back then.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Now back to Hot Honey. How long ago did you
start working on it?
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Start working on it? Like a year ago? Over a
year ago? Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
Those songs, you know, the more poppy dance songs, they
take a long time because you make one version and
then you make another version, and you work a different
vocalist and then chasting.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
So it's a long process for sure.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Let's talk about your brand new song, Tantalizing. How was
that song born?
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Yeah, that's almost born. I got the vocal and just
a vocal and.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
I was like, ah, this is amazing, and it's so
different again, you know, I like to switch it up,
you know, even in my DJ sets, I can go
anywhere from like country to hip hop dance all mixed
together with.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Some T sauce on top.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
You know.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
It's I always call myself nowadays like the Omigaza's chef
of DJs, you know, I.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Give you a little bit of everything. You know you don't.
I don't have one just one style anymore. It's just
like I can't.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Play anything, and hopefully it comes together.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
I mean, you've earned the right. You are an absolute
icon for as long as you've been doing this. How
long ago did you start working on Tantalizing?
Speaker 3 (05:14):
And that one came around quick?
Speaker 4 (05:17):
And I last year summer started working on it, and yeah,
I already had the vocal, so I just had to
make the.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Melody and the beats underneath and make it sound more like.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
I could play in my sets. And yeah, I came
together very quick. But I really love the song. And
this Saturday, I'm playing at Red Rocks in Colorado and
Soki is coming out to sing the song, so it's going.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
To be really cool.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Now forgive me if this is a stupid question, but
was this your first foray into afro beats?
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Yeah, well I did a little bit on my London album.
There is a song on there, so I was familiar
with it, but this is definitely, yeah, more afrobeat kind
of a vibe for sure.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
But yeah, it just.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Came together because I love the song and sometimes certain
vibes fit with it.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
So yeah, well it turned out so well.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Congratulations on tantalizing, Congratulations on hot honey, Congratulations on everything
going on for UTS. So thank you so much for
your time with us on America's Dance thirty.
