Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, look what it is.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
What's going on?

Speaker 3 (00:03):
What up?

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Brian?

Speaker 1 (00:04):
So two things before we even start.

Speaker 4 (00:06):
I'm losing my voice, as you can tell, So forgive
me for this raspiness.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
All right.

Speaker 4 (00:11):
Second of all, I have the utmost respect for touring artists,
but now I have so much more respect for you guys.
I always tell like touring DJs, I have no idea
how you guys do it, Like being in a different
city or country every day or weekend. I took my
first European trip. I was at Adye. Oh sick, my god,

(00:34):
I am dead.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
That's like a marathon of a week from what I've seen.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Oh, you guys have never been.

Speaker 5 (00:40):
We have not been to eighty, but a lot of
our team has been, and we've had friends go. And
I know it's like all night, all day, everything.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Besides obviously the jet lag and everything. I mean it was,
It's just insane. I don't know how you guys do it.
By the way, Eli, very nice to meet you have
we never met.

Speaker 6 (00:56):
I feel like I feel like we have met maybe
a long long time. I'm going in Miami for Miami
Music Week. Really twenty sixteen or seventeen, that's long ago.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
I don't even remember five minutes ago.

Speaker 6 (01:08):
Well maybe it was Sunset Music Festival in Tampa. Oh
my god, yes, I think that's where it was.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Well, your memory is insane because that would have been
like just really quickly meeting, like at main stage when
I was hosting.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
Well, never mind, I rescind that, and I blame it
all on the jet lag.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
It's great seeing you again.

Speaker 5 (01:41):
Dance counting down the biggest dance songs in the country.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
This is America's Dance thirty, Eli.

Speaker 4 (01:52):
Matt two friends. Welcome to America's Dance thirty.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Thank you great to be here. Thanks for having us.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
It is so great seeing you guys.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Congratulations on all the success of Wrong Way with Alexander Stewart.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
That is amazing.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
I can't wait to talk about this song because, in
my opinion, it is one of the pettiest songs in
dance music ever and I love it. Oh yeah, the
lyrics are amazing. But first let's get to know two
friends a little better. With Finky's favorites.

Speaker 5 (02:28):
Yeah, should we switch off or should we but both
give our favorites because we are two different people despite
what might seem.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
Yeah, normally I would have you guys go back and forth,
but I am so tired from my trip to Amsterdam
that just feel free to hop in whoever answers first,
that's good to go.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Cool.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
So you've got your heat.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
Wave the tour kicking off in January, and you guys
have been playing all over the world.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Do you have a favorite place that you've played.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
That's the favorite place? There's there's some special shows out there.
Most have been good, I will say. I mean we
played at MSG in August in New York, and that
was obviously a bucket list moment for us.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
That looked absolutely amazing. How was it for you guys?

Speaker 2 (03:17):
That was crazy?

Speaker 6 (03:18):
That was definitely in terms of like how much preparation
and thinking about it and the whole team working on it. Definitely,
you know, top maybe even number one topic.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Easily top three in terms of efforts.

Speaker 6 (03:30):
So so for to all go well, because there's some
things even day of the show where like we're at soundchecks,
some things aren't working.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
I mean we're check literally in the changeover between the
direct support and us, it's like crossing your fingers everything works,
and like.

Speaker 6 (03:43):
So for everything to work out after all that effort
and it would be such a special show, special night.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
That's that's definitely We're never going to forget that.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Well, congratulations on that.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
And speaking of Medicine Square Garden, you guys posted a
video of backstage with a fan pushing somebody in the
chair and then turning around and saying to the person
on the phone they just met two friends.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
That was such an epic video.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
But the lot going on.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
Yeah, absolutely, Now do you have a favorite fan moment?

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Damn.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
Honestly, it's fun seeing what fans give us, whether it's
before the show, had a meet and greet, or look.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
The one that just happened a couple of weeks ago
in San Diego on the golf course.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
So that one, Oh, this one's ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
All right.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
So I'm a golfer, very hobbyist.

Speaker 5 (04:27):
You know, I'm not good, but I play. And I
was at Tory Pines, which is a you know, somewhat
famous golf course, and so I posted a picture, you know,
with a location tag Tory Pines golf Course. So I'm
with some friends and we get to the ninth hole
and you get to the turn which comes back to
the clubhouse, and we're about to tee off in the

(04:49):
tenth hole and I just two guys like approach, and
I noticed they're wearing.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Two friends merch.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
So I'm like, huh, okay, maybe that's random, but they're
looking at me, so I'm like to be like, you know.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
They recognize me and they're here.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
Nope, they brought me a fresh macha because I sometimes
will post on our Instagram stories at macha and they're like,
good luck on the back nine. Saw you saw you
were here an Instagram story, how to go find y'all?
So we took a picture. I had the masra for
the back nine and it was that was very wholesome.
I didn't see it coming.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
That is amazing. Now, do you have to be a
member of the golf course to be able to get in?

Speaker 5 (05:26):
So this one particularly, it's a very popular, famous golf course,
but it's public, so gotcha. You know, if you're in
San Diego, it's a lot cheaper, but we were not,
so it's expensive, but it.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Was worth it.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
That is so incredible that they showed up for you
like that. Yeah, I lost myself with your shows.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Do you have a favorite song to drop in your
sets that you know is going to go off every time.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Picking these favorites is so hard. I know, like there
are some that we just.

Speaker 6 (05:56):
Are always you know, just a highlight of the show.
For example, we have our Mister bright Side remix that
we at this point we made it like seven or
eight years ago, but we just know that it's always
a special moment we do, you know, we do fun
stuff during it.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
A lot of times. That's when like.

Speaker 6 (06:10):
Confetti will go off and yeah, Matt will make a
little speech right before.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
Also, it's honestly cool seeing which originals I was going
to say, which singles of ours, like kind of pop
and like fans you know.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Kind of grow on too wrong way.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
Actually has been one where like it really works because
first of all, people have kind of learned the words
and it's like a big moment. But then second of all,
it really lends well because there's so many horns and
stuff we recorded on it. We bring a saxophonist, Casey
to all our shows and he plays on the song
for when we do it live, and that is always

(06:48):
a highlight.

Speaker 6 (06:48):
And we've actually Alexander Stewart actually has done it a
few times with us. He did Red Rocks, which was
a massive one. He was at MSG in New York
a couple.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Of weeks ago, did it in Vegas, Vegas.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
So it's been really fun to do that one together us.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
The lyrics, I mean, it's so easy to they're so
familiar and pretty much everybody could relate to it because
of how petty it is.

Speaker 5 (07:08):
Yeah, I mean we wanted to when we were in
that session, which is probably I think it was back
in twenty twenty two. You know, we had this concept
of like writing a song, you know, because like whether
it's girlfriends, boyfriends, whatever, like partners in your life as
a musician, they're always asking you, are you writing a
song about me? Did you have in your session?

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Did you write about me? Well?

Speaker 5 (07:30):
We kind of wanted to like take that concept and
like flip it where it's like, okay, yeah we wrote
about you.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
You're not gonna like it. Hopefully it's post breakup at
this point.

Speaker 5 (07:42):
So you're not writing about a current partner in that light,
but you know you're writing a song about that person
who is asking for it, not the song they wanted.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
I love it. Well, you've had your big Booty mixes.

Speaker 5 (08:05):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
It was Big Booty Mix twenty five that had two
hundred and twenty six songs in it.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
That is insane.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
We keep the people on their toes.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
How long did it take for you guys to put
it together?

Speaker 6 (08:19):
The thing about those is we kind of I mean,
we're constantly working on so many things, so it's a
lot happening simultaneously. We have the big Booty Mix is that,
you know, we're like you said, we've done twenty five
of them, already working on twenty six. We have the
original music that we're constantly working on in the studio,
we do you know, we're planning for our touring schedule
and the big show's coming up. So it's like it's
hard to really quantify it because we're not really like.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Starting and finishing in one chunk.

Speaker 6 (08:46):
It's a lot of like the day after twenty five
comes out, we're already working on twenty six for the
next however many months until it's ready, So it's not
you know, it's like a little bit every day, a
little bit every week. But yeah, I mean those have gone,
you know, those have just really grown into the whole
world of you know, they've gotten harder to make but
also more fun to make.

Speaker 5 (09:07):
And we get a premiere of them at Cool shows
at Big Booty Land like Madison Square Garden.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
Well, if you think the favorites questions is difficult, this
one's going to be even harder.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Do you have a favorite Big Booty mix?

Speaker 5 (09:19):
It might sound like a cop out answer, but we
always try to make the latest one our favorite, otherwise
we wouldn't feel good about it.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
So I'm going twenty five.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
That's kind of like.

Speaker 6 (09:27):
Our test when we're it's hard to know when something's done, finished,
ready to wrap it up, so we're kind of, you know,
if we don't think it's our new favorite, best one yet,
then we get back out the wat weekend.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
Well, I'll take it back. That was the easiest question
of them all. Then, now, who is your favorite producer
of the moment besides two friends?

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Of course, that's a good question.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
I mean there's so many amazing producers, whether they're established
or more emerging, and like so many different sub genres
like so it's almost hard to choose one.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
I mean there's a ton of people.

Speaker 5 (09:58):
That I haven't actually on like the ground level, like
that are dope and different genres. We've been playing a
lot of our condo stuff. He does like some really
cool drum and bassed stuff. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (10:08):
True, you know he's established at this point obviously, but
he's crushing it with everybody's coastal.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
We've done a bunch of shows.

Speaker 5 (10:15):
With them, known them just really cool bang banger of
a song, kind of more in the future bass Lane,
which I think has been slept on a little bit.
So there's like so many awesome producers out there now.
It's competitive and.

Speaker 4 (10:26):
It's great that you guys support them, which is awesome. Now,
what is your favorite non ed M song ever?

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Matt, Wow, damn?

Speaker 3 (10:38):
Just one?

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Oh my god, just one.

Speaker 5 (10:40):
I'll just I mean, I have too many favorites of
non ADM songs, but I will go if I just
had to like choose like one song that like, I
would have to listen to a lot. It's it's an
old school song, but I would say Born to Run
Bruce Springsteen has that nostalgic feeling. My dad used to
play it when I was like five in the car.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
So yeah, for me, I need I have add with music.

Speaker 6 (11:02):
That's kind of maybe how the big Booty mixes even
got Born was like it's earned for me to lock
into only one genre. So I'm gonna go with Elton
John eminem and Avich.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
First of all is edm wowed to do m okay
one song, one song ever.

Speaker 6 (11:21):
This is gonna be so random, but I'm going Crocodile
Rock by Elton John.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Elton John is one of my favorites. Have you ever
seen him perform?

Speaker 2 (11:28):
I actually have not. My parents have, and they always
talk about how.

Speaker 5 (11:30):
I gotta say though, Crocodile Rock on repeating Yeah, that
kind of sounds like a ganto.

Speaker 6 (11:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
I got the chance to see him in Orlando on
the Farewell tour and we were literally the last row
in the arena, like holding the wall up in the
three hundreds, and it was still one of the best
shows I have not to rub your nose in it,
one of the best shows I have ever been to.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Yeah, He's just amazing.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
Now finally, in Thinky's Favorites, in honor of Wrongway Success,
this is going to be a tough one and it's
not fun to do. But what is your favorite way
to break up with somebody?

Speaker 3 (12:08):
That's a funny phrase, favorite or easiest.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Favorite like text message or phone.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Call or dollh.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
My god, take like a four year relationship and just
just stop say anything.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Don't even you don't even have to move, you might
see them, So.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
You could send them like a LinkedIn message.

Speaker 6 (12:32):
What about what about very relevant? What if you write
a song about them? Let them know. Not that we've
ever done that, but.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
And you just know you just don't say anything.

Speaker 5 (12:40):
You say, have a new song coming out, and they
listen to it, it's very on the nose.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
This is so harsh.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
That'd be the way.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
Let's talk about this song. You know you meant that
you guys were working on it back in twenty twenty two.
How was it born? With Alexander Stewart.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
We started the song in twenty twenty two.

Speaker 5 (13:08):
We had a session, it went really well and we
kind of had like the overall concept and then started
producing it.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
But it took a while.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
And then at the same time, like during COVID, I mean,
I guess that was kind of on the edge of it,
but we listened to Alexander Stewart. I think I found
him on TikTok and like I was just like, damn,
this guy's voice is like sick. So he was on
like our wish list for a long time. And then
as we were producing the song out more, it kind
of like came together it's like, wait, that guy would

(13:37):
be perfect, so we kind of hit him up.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
I think it was just an Instagram DM.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Yeah wow.

Speaker 5 (13:43):
And then he came over to the studio to cut
it and we like rewrote some parts and he crushed it.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
So you know, that's that's that's how I was born.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
So when you guys started working on it, were you
working on it just as the instrumental or were you
already working on it with words as well.

Speaker 5 (14:00):
Well.

Speaker 6 (14:00):
We wrote it in that session in twenty twenty two
with a couple of really cool co writers.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
I think there were like four of us there, but yeah,
we were kind of it was just the demo.

Speaker 6 (14:09):
We needed to find someone really cool to sing it,
and like Matt said, he helped with some cool rewrites. Definitely,
there were a couple of lyrics not to get two
in the weeds, but like he definitely saved us on
a couple of lyrics that in hindsight would have been
awkward to keep in. So he did his thing, and
then he's been great. Like I said, we were able
to perform it a few times so far at shows
and he's been awesome to We've hung out with him,

(14:30):
you know, not just at the shows, but in LA
and he's just he's a great dude.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
Now when you guys were writing it, was it based
on true life acts? Were you writing it kind of
in respect to somebody or was it just like out
of left field?

Speaker 5 (14:45):
I mean, definitely that concept of like partners asking to
write a song has been like a thing and at
least in my life forever. And it's not necessarily that
like a current partner or past partner where you know
it's exactly about but definitely it wouldn't be about a
current partner hopefully, So.

Speaker 6 (15:05):
I think we kind of went in We had that
idea that like main tagline of like I finally wrote
you a song and I hope you take it the
wrong and then we kind of worked backwards to tell
more of the story.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
But yeah, that was a fun session.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
It is so brilliantly petty. Now.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
Something I love to find out about songs and Matt
we talked about this in the past, is how many
different v's there are from when you start working on it,
all the tweaking that goes on when you finally put
it out. Do you remember what the final v was
of wrong way?

Speaker 3 (15:35):
Damn? I mean you know what.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
On my computer right behind here. One second, we'll get
the official count going.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Now with two friends songs, are there normally a lot
of versions?

Speaker 6 (15:49):
Oh yeah, I mean every song obviously is his own
kind of path. Saw him come together a little smoother,
quicker than others. But yeah, I mean he's looking it
up right now.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
There's a lot because with the demo there's a whole
vocal editing.

Speaker 6 (16:02):
There's then when you start working on you know, the
music we have our our dude crushed it on the
on some trumpet parts for this, so there was there was.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Definitely went through a lot.

Speaker 6 (16:12):
And we also, like I'm sure a lot of producers
do this too, where it's very rare that we will
be focusing only on one song at a time. You know,
we're kind of do a couple of days on this song, now,
give our ears a rest, focus on a new song,
come back to it a few days later, and have
some new, fresh, fresh ears on it, fresh thoughts. So
that's kind of you know, it's not like when we
say it started in twenty twenty twenty two, It wasn't

(16:34):
like we worked for two years on the song, right,
just kind of make some progress, focus on some other stuff,
make some progress, go back.

Speaker 5 (16:41):
So you know what's funny, This song I think went
through so many versions that we had to like change
the folders. So like, I think we restarted because I'm
only I only see five and there is no way
it was five.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
I'm going to go thirty eight, So I'm like.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
That I might ask a little favor, can you change
it to thirty because my OCD I'm odd numbers.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Sure you get thirty nine, thirty seven whatever.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
Now with you guys being a duo, who gets the
final say, like, if you're at like a stopping point,
who do you reach out to?

Speaker 3 (17:14):
Hopefully we agree?

Speaker 5 (17:17):
I would say if we're on version thirty seven, we
both have no clue anymore. So I would actually love
if he confidently said, I promise you this is it?

Speaker 3 (17:26):
That feel really reassuring, Eli.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Can you say it right now for wrongway?

Speaker 2 (17:30):
Specifically, Yes, we made the right thing.

Speaker 4 (17:33):
I definitely think you made the right call because it
is a brilliant song. Congratulations on the success of it
is so amazing. Congratulations on that. Congratulations on the upcoming tour.
I can't wait to see that kick off for you
guys in January. What can two friends fans expect from
the upcoming tour.

Speaker 6 (17:51):
Yeah, you mentioned we're going on he waved the tour
starting in January, going for seven or eight weeks, hid
in most cities in North America, and got a few
more surprises that we're going to add on to it,
so stay tuned for that. But yeah, this is hopefully
going to be our biggest and best tory yet. We've
had a lot of really cool brainstorming sessions for the
music side, the production side, the visuals, the special guests,

(18:12):
all that stuff. So we're putting our heart and soul
into these shows.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
Yeah, what else can you say yet to be sick
where we're excited. We're really going deep on it.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
How do you prep when you're going for such a
huge tour like this? Do you need to prep yourself?

Speaker 5 (18:26):
It's such a it's such a ordeal in a good sense.
You have to be so organized. There's so many departments,
and we try to we put a lot on ourselves
and then we have to, you know, find the people
on our team that we trust and worked with in
the past.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
So yeah, it's definitely use.

Speaker 6 (18:43):
It's also you know, we want to make this super
exciting and new and fresh, so like it almost feels
not that we're starting from absolute scratch. You know, there's
certain things that we like to play and they'll find
their way in there.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
But I mean the vast, vast.

Speaker 6 (18:57):
Majority of stuff is new ideas, you know, new production
design for the stage. So basically everything is like, this
is our chance to kind of start off twenty twenty
five with the bang and you know, get some some
good momentum.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
So we're we're putting our heart and soul into it.

Speaker 4 (19:12):
And even down to the smallest thing, do you have
to find somebody to like look after your houses while
you're gone?

Speaker 3 (19:17):
So good questions.

Speaker 5 (19:18):
I mean, listen, we both need personal assistants on that
yet yet we're not there yet.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
Well you will be, and I can't wait for this
tour to kick off in January.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
Thanks so much, Thanks Brian Eli.

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
