(00:00):
As promised eighty thirty fam here isthe first bonus episode with some of our
chats from Miami Music Week. It'sBrian Fink. If you're not familiar with
Miami Music Week, it happens everyyear in Miami and pretty much almost every
artist, producer, DJ in dancemusic comes together at this event and it's
(00:21):
all just pool parties and interviews andchats, pretty much kicking off festival season
every year. This year we wereonce again set up at the DMAs,
the EDM Awards, and just aheads up. A lot of these chats
are very quick because it's pretty muchradio row, so the artists, the
DJs, the producers all stop byevery station setup and chat with us.
(00:46):
But it's got to be quick because, like I said, they've got every
station that they got to hit,and this is only one event in Miami
Music Week. There are a bunchof other ones that all of these artists
got to go to. So onthis week's bonus episode of America's Dance thirty
of the podcast Live for Miami MusicWeek, you're gonna hear chats with Nathan
(01:06):
daw Lux, Tides Lucas, andSteve Hayla, Billy Gillies and the incredible
Martin Garricks. Just a reminder, make sure you are following or subscribed wherever
you get America's Dance thirty the podcast, so you get notified when these bonus
episodes drop. Let's take a quickbreak and the chats from Miami Music Week
start next here on America's Dance thirty, Dance counting down the biggest dance songs
(01:45):
in the country. This is America'sDance thirty. We're live at the Edmas
with the incredible Nathan Dahl, whojust got off stage performing how are You
Man, Iron Toyot's Batchet Lock.I'm stage Gentlin. Miami Music Week has
just started. You can't be tiredyet. I know. Bob came from
LA and then I'm mentally struggling becauseI'm thinking tomorrow I'm going back to the
(02:07):
UK and then Sundown going to Australia. Well, we got a lot to
talk about because this is our firsttime catching up. I would love to
rewind all the way to eight hundredHeaven, which was such an amazing song.
Congratulations on there, Thank you somuch. It's just obviously assuned that
it comes together so quick. Wewrote it in like ninety minutes. I
was feeling quite hungover on the dayand quite light down in the dorms.
(02:30):
I just thought, let's write asong about death. And then I kind
of related it to my nan whopassed away, and I was like,
it's a really cute song, andI thought it was well. People were
telling me it's too sad to comeout, so it's too sad for dance.
I said, no, the soundof the better. I want people
to cry. And do you knowwhat? It connected with so many people,
and you see, it's been funeralsongs, it's been everything. So
for me having such a song thatmeans so much to me come out and
(02:52):
do the business worldwide, it's thebest feeling ever. And I remember talking
to Ella about it and she saidthat you hit her up and said,
listen, I want to make thesaddest dance song ever. And you guys
did that. I mean, yeah, I mean that was the target.
I mean, I don't know ifI don't know if I can claim it
as the best that the saddest ever, but it's definitely up there. It
definitely a tear jerker. And likeI say, if people are playing dance
(03:13):
records at funerals. I think you'venailed the idea of making a sad dance
track absolutely. Now fast forward towith bb rexa Heart Still Beating? How
did that come together? Literally?Bb hit our team up and said we
love a undred Heaven coming to asession with Nathan, So we were like
amazing. Obviously, went there, did a session and the tune was sick
(03:35):
and she was like, oh mygod, I love it so much,
I want to bring it out.And I was thinking, wow, this
is crazy, like a lad froma small town working with someone as big
as Bebe, and she was amazingthrough the whole campaign, Like it was
incredible, and she was amazing tome and really really helped me and kind
of helped me on my career aswell, with you know, meeting different
people and being places like Miami withyou. And then fast forward to your
(03:55):
latest song where people are already gettingtattoo of the lyrics a week after it's
out. How does that feel? It's going to be crazy? Once again?
It was similar to Heaven, likeit was a song that I wrote.
It's quite a sad concept is aboutquestioning why we're here, and you
know, when you're down in thedorm but you've got to get yourself up
and you've got to like crack onme things. And yeah, people are
(04:16):
once again related to the lyrics.I'm trying to write music at the minute
that isn't just I love you orI hate you. You know. I
wanted to do more about real lifeexperiences and that's not you know, that's
not done as much as I thinkit should. So it seems to be
working. People are telling you whothe lyrics on nobod it's incredible. I've
got no tatoos yet, but maybethat might my first two. Who knows,
(04:36):
it'll be a good one. NathanDa, thank you so much for
your time with us here at theDMAs. Thank you very much to see
you soon. Luck stands we're alreadyhaving issues that we need to get matching
(04:56):
tattoos. Yeah, absolutely next year. We got to show off our tight
when we do this. Yes,but I gotta warn you matching tattoos is
the kiss of death, so mostlikely we won't talk to each other after
that. That'll be it. We'lldo one interview with the Magic Tattoos and
then never speak again. We sizeit is so awesome having you back in
Miami Music Week. How have youbeen. Dee's so great, so happy
to be here. And this isis this our two year anniversary? This
(05:20):
is our three year inn? Isit three? Can you believe that?
Where has the time gone? Withthe kids? I know we're like an
old married couple now. So thisis your third one. How different is
it compared looking back to your firstwhen we chatted in the middle of a
hotel on the way to the airport. You know, I'm feeling a little
(05:43):
bit more like grounded today. Ithink that day I was like, what's
happening? I was about to playa sing at ultra very chaotic day.
But today I'm kind of I'm chillingthis year. And this is your second
year hanging out at the Edma's right, Yes, yep, second year the
last year. And how has MiamiMusic Week been for you so far?
It's been incredible. I premiered anew song last night with Damon Sharp.
(06:06):
I think I'm singing tonight with Castrajust have it, just vibe and just
having fun. So I would saywhat's next for Lux Tides, but you
just pretty much told us what's nextfor Lux Tides? But I'll ask you
anyways, what is next for LuxTides. Absolutely. I have a lot
of new music out the next coupleof months. Next Friday, I've got
a song coming out with Manila Killathat I'm super super zoked about love that
(06:29):
song. Got a new one withDamon Sharp. I've got one coming up
with Zach Martino. So a lotof exciting stuff coming up. That's what
you're saying is you're staying busy, staying very busy, writing a lot of
songs, drinking a lot of coldbrew. It is always awesome catching up
with you. Lux Tides, thankyou so much for your time with us
at the DMA's Absolutely, thank youfor having me. Steve, you know
(06:58):
how this works. We've got aschedule to stick by. Can you stop
getting comfortable on the couch. NowI'm good, I'm good. I'm very
good. It took me five minutes, but now I'm good. Lucas and
Steve, Welcome to the DMAs.How are you guys? Very good?
Actually, it's good to be backin Miami. So you guys are looking
pretty fresh. Did you just getto Miami? We just arrived. Do
we look fresh? Do you think? Tell you do? It is very
(07:21):
possible. But here's the thing. Are you gonna come through maybe again tomorrow
or is today the only day?Well, today's actually the only day.
We're doing a couple of parties tonight, and now we have to fly out
already to New York. So Ican't wait to see the picture comparison between
right now, when you're fresh andtwo days from now. I will just
send you a picture, just twobig pictures of me and then just comparison
(07:44):
which one looks better. I wantto actually you a very good idea.
We actually should take the picture rightnow with you here, and then you
need to come to Austin for theafter pictures. Hey, all right,
I've got my passport ready, eventhough you don't need one for Austin,
but I've got it ready. Sowhat's in Miami mus week for Lucas and
Steve? What's your plan while you'rehere? Well, actually, let's know,
(08:05):
we already went to a couple ofparties today. We are playing at
Audience Party. I think it's it'sit's got a really cool name. It's
like progressive never dies, right,Progressive House never died. It's never died.
That's it. It's awesome. Ilove the concept. So we're definitely
got to play some good old progressiverecords in there After that, we're doing
our own show at Mint Mint Loungeas Lucas and Steve doing progressive house a
(08:28):
lot. That's gotta feel so goodplaying a show like that, absolutely,
So we're also pumped to play recordsthat we actually don't play anymore because we
have made so many progressive house tunesduring their last When we started making music,
we were already busy trying to makeprogressive house. So it's good to
do some old stuff also instead ofdoing all those new IDs and just try
(08:50):
to pump in some very old, exceptional Lucas and Steve melodies. That should
be good. Yeah, So we'reactually very very excited for this one.
Well, I think every time wehave chatted has been through zoom, So
it is awesome having you guys inreal life here at the DMAs. What's
next for Lucas and Steve? So, yes, this is indeed what we
(09:11):
really look like. You guys werea lot taller than I thought you were.
Likewise, oh thank you, sucha lie. But what is next
for Lucas and Steve. Well, right now we are about to launch a
couple of new records. There's comingsome really cool, cool club sounds to
keep our sound evolving, so newtunes like that. Also some really cool
(09:31):
collapse coming in. Like if wewould have this interview like literally one week
later, we would be actually allowedto reveal who it would be with.
It's impossible that you don't notice.DJ I can tell, but yeah,
keep an eye out for that's it'sgotta be cool. So I'll see you
guys in Austin. Yeah, bringthe camera, right, I will bring
(09:52):
the camera. We'll do the sideby side Lucas and Steve. It is
so great having you guys at theDMA's awesome. Thanks for having us.
We are alive at the DMAs withthe amazing Heyla welcome. How are you
(10:16):
very good? My first DMAs aswell in first yeah, first Narmi music
Week, So tell us how isit amazing? Like on a grand scale?
And I could have even imagined tobe honest, Yeah, yeah,
we were talking about that at breakfast, because I don't think you can truly
get an idea of what Miami MusicWeek is going to be like until you're
in it. Definitely, No,definitely not. I've done like ims and
(10:37):
ads well, they're absolutely amazing. But I mean coming out here and seeing
this, yeah, next level. And how was it performing? Well,
it was. It was really cool. The crowd were moving as well,
So it's great to hear people singingback. And it's always so nice to
sing those songs, especially here. You know, well, I know you
heard it a million times already today, you've heard it a million times in
the past. But I gotta tellyou, I was interviewing Zella while you're
(10:58):
performing, and we literally had totake a moment just to take you in
because it was just so incredible.Oh thank you so And seriously we had
to go I had to turn tothem and go, she's live, that's
not recorded, because you sound soamazing. Oh thank you so much.
If do you know what? It'sfunny because like when I'm actually thinking about
doing the show, I'm like,Okay, it's gonna be cool. And
(11:20):
I feel like my voice never wobbles. My knees do, though, you
know, so you gotta keep moving, right, So I'm like, keep
on moving around, don't let itsup me. So yeah, So what
is in store for Miami Music Weekfor Halo the rest of the time?
Oh my days. So I thinkI'm gonna go to Afterlife tonight. I've
never seen him before, I know, he said the other week. I'm
so excited for that. And thenI think a few pool parties. Definitely
(11:41):
gonna do that, and I thinkI'm just gonna see where my feet take
me, maybe hopefully go to Ultrafor a bit. It's been nice knowing
you. Yeah, it's been nicebeing alive for a while. So Shiver
has been doing unbelievable. I knowwe just chatted about it, but how
awesome is it that is taking offas well as it is? Do you
know what? It's all like funnyto kind of do a follow up you're
(12:01):
sort of worry about, like howit's gonna do and perform against it,
you know, And to be honest, I've tried not to look at stats
too much, but it has beenamazing. I mean without even trying to
look or whatever. But it's beenamazing to see that it has been received
so well, and it's just niceto It's nice to have it happen again
with John because, like I said, we have kind of like now cultivated
a friendship as well from working together, and it's just so great to share
(12:22):
it. Well. Next is gettinga body of work of Hala out there,
acoustics, piano, whatever you gottado, Hala, I know,
do you know? Honestly, I'mhonestly I'm thinking about getting some of that
acoustic pianos stuff done, you know, because of you, Because of you,
you know. I mean this albumthat I'm gonna do hopefully will be
coming out any sort of like Novembertime. But but yeah, I am,
I am really I would love todo an acoustic one as well.
(12:43):
Well. Welcome to your first CDMAS. Thank you so much for spending time
with us on Miami Music Week.Thank you so much for having me and
we are live at the DMAs withthe amazing Billy Gillies. How are you,
(13:03):
Brian? I'm doing very well. How you, bro? Did I
pronounce the name correctly? You actuallydid, like You're one of very few
that actually announced it. Good.So yeah, well, now is this
isn't your first Miami Music Week, isn't it? No? I came last
year for the first time. Loveit out here in Miami. It's such
a good vibe and yeah, thepeople and everything's amazing. So yeah,
(13:24):
it's great to be out here.Is it everything you thought it was gonna
be? Or is it because MiamiMusic Week is very extra. Yeah,
it's quite a lot to take in, so I'm only here for like free
days, but I'm gonna try andsqueeze as much as possible in there.
So yeah, plenty to do,loads of things to see, and yeah,
loads of people to meet, soI'm ready for it. Well,
(13:46):
we were talking about DNA, andI was telling you how much I love
the song and I wish that ithad gone further because, I mean,
Hannah just sounds incredible on it.How did DNA get born? So I
got sent a few damn acappellas, just raw acappellas, and then I heard
DNA. And once I heard thata cappella, I just knew you can
(14:07):
make a really good beat behind itand turn it in the head. And
like two days later, it justcame the gabba so quick. I sent
it back to Atlantic them guys werejust loving it, and then the fleame
me out the New York everything tomeet them after it. So yeah,
I'm just glad the way it allcame. The gabber I was looking for,
like that type of vocal from liketwenty years ago, the old school
(14:28):
tiasto type vocal, and it kindof just nailed it and it was exactly
what I was looking for. Soyeah, I want to say that was
my first introduction to hannibal In becauseI hadn't really heard her before and now
she's on everything. Yeah, Sowhat's next for Billy Gillies. So I've
got like seven tracks lined up forthis year or adi. So the next
track is gonna be I think it'sgonna be a remix iited of Batsy Fair,
(14:52):
but we're gonna re release it asa transfer record. The original track
was just like a really slow trackwith no beat or nothing, but I
turned to end a really good Trouncerecord, so I posted it in tech
Talk like two weeks ago and it'sjust blue Up. So I had another
track planned for the next release, but that one's just blue Up. So
(15:13):
we're trying to get that, likejust clear to get that at NAXT.
So yeah, that's awesome, thepower of TikTok. Billy Gillies, thank
you so much for spending time withus here at the DMAs. Thank you
so much, Brian Pleasure, seeyou guys later. We are live at
(15:37):
the DMAs with the amazing Martin Garricks. How are you, brother, I'm
good. How are you? Iam good. Nice being in a comfortable
sofa so you can get a littlerelaxation in it's very nice. Tell everybody
about your schedule here in Miami, how it's been, and what it's gonna
lead to. I arrived last night, then I went to the studio,
got a few hours of rest, did a nice morning beachwalk, and then
(16:00):
studio again, then here, andthen I go back to the studio after
and then Ultra. You gotta rememberUltra, yeah, yeah, and then
I do, I do. Idid a stamped party, the stampool party
later today tomorrow's studio and then whatday is it today? Exactly? Ultra
on Saturday. So until it's try, I basically have a lot of studio
time. Well, congratulations on theeed m A for a festival Song of
(16:22):
the Year. That's amazingay, andcongratulations on the EP that's so awesome.
Thank you so much. Now carryyou. How was this song born?
Song was born in India? Iwas on Twitter last year in February and
in early March, and I gota chre progression from the guys from Third
Party. I didn't like the melodyit was on it, so scraped the
(16:45):
melody and then I started to builda new melody from scratch, and then
it was on a flight to Kolkataand then I just sent it back to
them. We started going back andforth on the production. Then I played
it with another a cappella and becamelike a big song in my sets.
And then December we wrote a vocalfor it with John Martin, Wena Oak
and Declan Yeah. Released it lastmonth and response has been incredible, and
(17:07):
also feel like so many people heardit from the shows and from the livestreams,
et cetera. So I was veryexcited to finally put it out in
the in the ether well, itis such an amazing song. Congratulations on
that, Congratulations on the e dM. A. Martin Garrick's always great
catching up with you, Thank you, good to see you. America's Dancerties
