is the big one. I didn't even think it will
go number one. You know, she's making music.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
You know what's dope is though we actually made that
song in LA just before Lockdown or was it ding Lockdown?

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Because during lockdown.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Yeah. Also, congratulations on this being your first number one
on US dance radio and it going number one on
the Billboard Dance Mix Show charts.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
I mean that is massive.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Thank you so much, Thank you so much. You know,
hopefully it's okay.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
They gotta be more, you know, but yeah, let's take
the blessings one by one, you know, Thank you America.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
That is so amazing.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Did I see that you guys are only the second
South African artists to accomplish this.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
The second and yeah second, Yeah, I just to accomplish this.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
I think Tyler, Yeah, Tyler was the first one. That
is so amazing for you guys.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
It's a gyam come true. It's gym come true, and
it's a step in the right direction.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
We're gonna be chatting all about this smash coming up
and find out how it was born with Georgia Smith.
But first let's get to know major league DJs a
little better with Finky's first.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Really, I saw.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
That you guys growing up had music around you a lot,
but you really got into music when you moved back
to South Africa and started throwing your own parties. Is
it true that you guys got into DJing because the
other DJs were always showing up late.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yep, yeah, we were one of our own shows, some
dijit shop late. So we just had to We couldn't
we couldn't afford a backup DJ. Once the line was
done was done, so we always had to just do
it as house. You know, I've always gonna have to
be playing mixes there, so we'd rather learn how to
d But to be honest, our first love was like
throwing parties, like events, you know, you know, as a

(03:10):
kidie liked throwing house parties, and house parties became like
club parties. We're throwing club parties at the age of sixteen,
I think we were not even award in the club
but fourteen sixteen, No, but I'm saying club fourteen we
were doing like house parties, like crazy ones.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
That is so crazy. Well, I love finding out the
origin story of artists. When you were growing up, was
music the first thing that you wanted to get into
or was there something else that you guys wanted to
be growing up?

Speaker 3 (03:39):
We wanted to be in sports more than anything. We
used to play a lot of baseball. That's where the
Major League, you know, comes from. We played provincial baseball
into Africa, one of the first black kids to do that. Wow,
we as our first love. And then we had to
go to boarding school and leave baseball behind because our
father became a diplomat, an ambassador in Rwanda in Africa,

(04:02):
So yeah, we had to we had to leave the
baseball go to boiling school otherwise join name in Toronto things,
and we're like, nope, do you know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (04:12):
He's like, that's fine, but you have to go to
boil in school.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
So when we actually started like growing a name in
the DJ space, like, what were gonna call us? Like
major league that's our first love. We always wanted to
play Major League baseball. It was always our dream. But yeah,
I guess situations didn't allow. So we just said, let's
let's carry on with the name. It's just a blessing.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Gotcha?

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Well, that was gonna be one of my next questions
was where did the name come from? But when you
were trying to decide on an artist project name, was
major League DJ's your first choice or were there other
names you were considering.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Coming up with? Names were always weird, like we come
up with weird names.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Do you remember any of them?

Speaker 4 (04:51):
Best of both worlds, like twin power.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
We're young man, different things, if you things, And I
think like when we got to like nineteen twenty, we're like,
let's just go.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
What's I really like those baseball.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Well, I'm glad you guys went with major league DJs.
It's got a nice sound to it.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
And that is a bit weird. And we were kids.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Now did I see that you guys broke the world
record for the longest DJ set by a duo.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
Yeah, we did. We did seventy two hours.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
How do you even do that?

Speaker 4 (05:27):
We took a break, my brother, take a break and
carry on. Take a break.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Our breaks are only allowed to be like three hours each, yeah,
three hours of days.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Yeah, that is insane. Well do you remember the first
time performing for a crowd as major league DJs?

Speaker 4 (05:43):
As major league DJs? I'm mu sure, but like as kids?

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Yeah, like a house fuddies, as league I think we
just said quite a lot of major d and then
it's just slowly built. They started getting to know us
because they usuld just call us the twins. Turns are
having a party, or the Twins are doing this, or
the Tuns.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
You know, And did it take you guys a while
to get into the groove of actually DJing or did
it come to you pretty easily?

Speaker 4 (06:07):
It came easier.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
It came there around a lot of parties and some
like when we're started, were standing from fresh who always
knew like the basics. One sewed another skewing and in
an event hour music is supposed to mix.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
We're not like just we're not childless to how mixing
should happen.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
So like even building a night which DJ goes when
it wasn't it wasn't hard. Like I'm saying, I love events.
One of the biggest events in So Africa for the
longest time, which is called Maja League Gardens. We took
the gardens name from Madison's Great Gardens, like we always
think about things.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Well, that definitely has a ring to it too, So
congratulations on those parties. Now, do you remember the first
dance song that made you, guys fall in love with
the genre.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
There's a DJ called die Ganyani from South Africa.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
The song was called all right that that song changed
the house and was its gonna be oh right? Two?

Speaker 3 (07:20):
The thing is Kanyani Oh there was a revolution is
another song. He still want The first song changed changed
my I get it. I was like, nah, this is crazy, babe,
actually simple.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
That song was doing mixed.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Hey, I get ten percent now. Finally, in honor of
Come with Me going number one. You know, if somebody
grabbed you and said come with me, where would be
the first place that you would choose?

Speaker 2 (07:50):
If you could go anywhere.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
It'll probably be mel Dieves to relax a bit.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Have you been before?

Speaker 4 (07:58):
No thieves.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
I've never been to Alds, you know, I've been everywhere
else or Japan. Yeah, this song come with Me, I think,
and go to create world of China or something like
something crazy.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
That would be an awesome trip. Well, let's talk about
this smash. How was Come with Me born with Georgia
Smith was being.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Lockdown and we were just making music. You were in America.
She was there, you know, and she's like, yeah, let's
do some music. You've been hearing it for some time,
you know, and she's like, yeah, I'm around this, do
some music. It was first more like I'm a piano
like song, like we recorded like but it was like
pop I'm a piano like Tyler stuff, and then we

(08:37):
converted into like efro house after the year after like
three years.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
She didn't want to release it then. I don't know why.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
She's probably going through a few things and she like,
let's release it now. I'm like, just go really like
it's being in the chamber.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
So did you guys keep going back to it or
did you once you started it it just kind of
sat there for three years?

Speaker 3 (08:57):
No, we go back to it. You know, the temple
change the beat a bit, you know. You know when
you start thinking of like songs like yo, you remember
the song, then you just go back to that specific
week and then you forget about it. Then you hit
it up and then you forget about it.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
You know.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Music is weird though, because I always think of the
new stuff you're making is the best thing.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Yeah, it's so crazy to me how many songs a
lot of producers have on their hard drive that they're
just sitting on for like years.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Yeah, it's like it's weird, but I guess that's how
the music game is.

Speaker 4 (09:29):
Like, maybe it's more spiritual than ever. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
It was the right time for it, that's all that matters.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
It's more of an energy thing now.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
Something I love to find out about songs is how
many different versions there are from when you start working
on it, all the tweaking that goes on when you
finally put it out mastered.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Do you remember what the final v was of come
with me?

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Maybe, like chen, I'm sure more than ten Tho when
you get it back, you're like, no, this Kiki is
not the one. Okay, check this element man, Okay now
and maybe more than ten. Definitely more than ten.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
And is that the way it normally is with major
league DJ songs?

Speaker 3 (10:08):
Not all the time. Sometimes you just feel like, no,
this is the one, especially like remix, you like.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
Not this is the one.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Gotcha?

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Well, congratulations on this one being the number one, your
first number one. Congratulations, guys, Thank you so much much. Now,
before I let you guys go, I asked chat ept
to give me a question that major league DJs has
never been asked before. So I got to test this out,

(10:35):
all right, Okay, between the two of you, who would
survive longer on a reality show where the only way
to win is to not dance the entire time?

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Vanilla, you don't dance.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
I don't mind not dancing.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Congratulations, guys, it is so awesome meeting you. Thank you
