Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi Amiga, we're here.
We're in the last 90 days ofthe year.
We have a unique opportunitynow to reflect on our past
accomplishments and to checkthat to-do list to see items
that still are on our list forthis year.
We still have time.
We have 90 days.
Let's look at some examples ofthings that are accomplished in
(00:23):
90 days.
For example, a human body inutero is fully formed and can
open and close its hands andmouth by 90 days after its
conception.
In just 90 days of going to aboot camp, a recruit can become
a Marine.
And this one is my favoriteMozart.
(00:47):
He composed two piano trios, aviolin sonata, two piano sonatas
, his last three symphonies andthree other piano pieces of
music in just 90 days, in 1788.
Wow, those are just a fewexamples of things that can be
(01:08):
accomplished in 90 days.
So remember, we can do it too.
We can well maybe not do allthose music compositions like
Mozart did, but we certainly canaccomplish some of our goals.
The key is that we have tocreate a plan, we have to stay
committed to the end, and Ithought today we'd go over what
(01:31):
are some things I'm doing in thelast 90 days, just to give you
some ideas of my focus andthings that maybe you might try
to accomplish too.
We still have time.
We still have the last 90 days,or probably a little bit less
than 90 days, depending whenyou're listening to this podcast
(01:52):
, and it's, too, never too lateto start.
There are several things that Ido during this time of the year
to make the most out of theremainder of the year.
So I wanted and I thought itwould be a good idea, to maybe
go over some of those with thiscommunity.
So the first thing that I do isI do a review of my goals for
the year today to see what haveI accomplished and what do I
(02:17):
still have to accomplish.
And this is important becauseit allows you to see what you
still need to get done and to beable to have a realistic idea
of if it's something you need tomove over to the next year or
something you really want to tryhard this year to accomplish.
I usually, every year, when Imake my list of goals for the
(02:41):
year, I print it in usually like50% smaller on my printer and I
make several copies.
I keep one in my wallet, I tapeone on my computer or my
desktop.
I also put one in my plannersyes, don't judge, I have a
couple of planners Just so I cansee the list throughout the
(03:03):
year.
It keeps me focused and thatway I have it as a reference and
I'm always looking to see am Idoing things towards those goals
?
Because a lot of times, depending on life, you know,
life happens and we getdistracted, and that's okay.
But we want to try to get backon track and just having the
(03:24):
list is what's going to be ableto get you back on track and
refocus.
So what I do is I take out thislist around this time and then I
cross out the things that I'veaccomplished.
It's very satisfying just to dothat with a marker, you know,
instead of deleting it, just tohave it on a piece of paper and
(03:46):
even to cross it out throughoutthe year when you accomplish
them.
It's just really feels good todo that.
Then, like I said, I take alook at what's left.
What do we need to do?
You really need to be realisticand figure out if it's
something that you're going tocommit to doing and then, if you
are, then you have to try todevelop a plan and strategies to
(04:10):
try to accomplish it in thenext 90 days and one of the ways
that I do that is, once Idecide, okay, that is something
I'm going to keep on the list,I'm going to add daily reminders
.
So what I do is I put them onmy calendar, on my Outlook
calendar, and then I also placeit on my phone In my Outlook
(04:31):
calendar.
Even on my work Outlookcalendar, if you ever took a
peek of it, you would see that Ihave reminders starting at 5.30
in the morning and some ofthose are reminders Regarding
those goals, and then I alsoremind myself at the end of the
day.
It kind of refocuses so that ifit's an item that's not A work
(04:52):
related, then it reminds me hey,do you have time tonight to
work on this?
So it's a good way.
I also have reminders on myphone so that you know at any
given time and mine arespecifically at lunch time,
because I know I'm sitting, possibly maybe eating something,
and I'll pay attention and itwon't be like an immediate
(05:15):
dismiss and maybe I can takethat reminder and then turn it
into something actionable, thatmaybe I can go and add An hour
of work towards that goal, towards that objective, into my
calendar.
So really use your tool to useyour outlook calendar, use your
phone reminders so that you canstay on track of your goals.
(05:38):
So you still, like I said, youstill have time.
Let's see what you can stillaccomplish this year.
Another thing that I start doingin this last 90 days is I plan
out the holiday shopping.
That way I can avoid any lastminute stress.
I don't leave it to the lastminute.
What you should probably do,and what I try to do now, is I
(05:59):
try to do as much as I canonline.
I take advantage of thosediscount days, like the prime
discount, big deal days, theblack Friday, the cyber Monday
and any other sale that might beupcoming.
I Google it, find out when it'sgoing to be and then I add it
to my calendar so that, so thatI can then add on those days,
(06:24):
pick up the things that I need.
For older kids and seniors, Irecommend that you get gift
cards Because this way, forexample, the kids, they can get
what they want.
We, you know kids are into alot of things these days and we
might not be up to date on whatis the latest and greatest, so
the gift cards are really goodthing.
(06:45):
With seniors, the gift cardsare important.
You know, sometimes seniors arehaving some financial
difficulties, so they can usethese gift cards for groceries,
they could use it formedications, they could use it
to buy a trip to maybe visit Arelative.
So I think the gift cards aregood for that.
Also, don't forget, one of thethings that I love to do is to
(07:10):
plan my Holiday time so that Ican participate on operation
Santa.
So operation Santa is a projectwith the United States Postal
Service and I love doing it.
So what happens is you can goto operation Santa.
It's actually USPS operationSanta calm.
(07:34):
I have done it for severalyears.
It is as I pick letters fromkids that have written to Santa
and what they do is they ask forthings.
So they'll say maybe I wantthis specific toy or I want a
camera or I want Legos, and thenwhat happens is you can pick
(07:54):
one letter, several I usually doseveral letters and then you
mail everything to an addressthat the post office gives you
and then they distribute thegifts out to the children, so
you don't get their homeaddresses.
I think you might be able tosee the state that that they're
in, but that's About it.
(08:14):
You get to choose a letter thatyou want and then you can go
out and go and buy the gifts forthis child.
You can pack it.
I always like to Make abeautiful box and put.
Sometimes I put some extras.
And now, if you know someonethat wants to participate in
(08:35):
this operation, santa, then theyneed to send in their letters
by November 20th and the postoffice has an address.
It's Santa 123 Elf Road, northPole, 88.
888.
It's so cute.
So definitely, all theinformation is on the
(08:56):
USPSoperationsantcom and thenyou have to mail your gifts into
the post office address theygive you by December 18th.
But, like I said, all thedetails are on the website.
So definitely add this to yourlast 90 days.
It is such a fun activity, youknow.
It's one of those things thatit's a feel good and if
(09:17):
everybody did it it would justput a smile on a child's face.
So, and it's something we coulddo locally.
So definitely go out and lookonline and participate on USPS
operations.
Santa Amiga, we have 90 days,so we still have time to read
(09:38):
some books.
You want to try to read somebooks?
That will hopefully help youenhance your personal growth.
You could read some books justfor fun, whatever makes you
happy.
I always have a list of booksthat I'm trying to read Most of
the time.
I am doing currently books onAudible, on the Audible app,
(10:00):
because the best time for me tobe able to fit this in is while
I'm driving, going to a client'soffice or going to a
presentation, so that works thebest for me.
I love to listen while I driveand usually for the last 90 days
I'm only doing one or two books, and that's usually because the
(10:24):
holidays are in the way.
I'm also trying to figure out, hey, what books maybe I want to
add for next year.
So so currently this month I amreading a book that was
released last month and it istitled Thicker Than Water.
This is a memoir by the actressCarrie Washington.
(10:46):
In this book, she gives us theintimate view of both her public
and private worlds, and it'sreally a good read.
It's so good that maybe youwant to add it to your you know
gift list.
If you have someone that likesreading, this is a good one for
(11:06):
you to add for this year.
So it's good for gifting thisholiday season.
The next book that I have on mylist to read before the end of
the year.
In case you're wondering, Ihaven't started yet so I don't
know anything about it, but Iknow well, I do know it's a good
book.
But I can give you my perfectyou know personal review.
(11:28):
So I'm thinking this one I'mprobably gonna start it around
the Thanksgiving holiday and,you know, finish it right before
Christmas or during Christmas.
And this one the title of thisone is the Garden Within by Dr
Anita Phillips, and this one wasalso released this year.
(11:50):
So, like I said, I usually readtwo instead of the many books
that I try to fit in throughoutthe year, and that's because I'm
going to try to also work on mylist for next year.
So I usually list 20 books thatI want to read.
So it's usually like two booksa month that I'm going to be
(12:14):
reading for the year.
And even though I do the 20list, I've found that for the
last couple of years I'm reallymostly averaging more than 20
around 25.
So you want to start the list, kind of look around, what are
those books that you've alwayswanted to read, put them on the
list.
But one of the things that Ithink you should do, a tip, is
(12:35):
like leave a couple of slotsopen.
You could do it leave slotsopen throughout the quarters so
that if books are released inthose quarters, you can kind of
you know slide it in.
For me, I usually leave it atthe end of the year.
So these two books they bothcame out in September, thicker
than water in the garden within, and so I was able to put them
(12:57):
in, and also I love that theywere books that were written by
women.
So I'm really excited to finishthe year with these, and it's
so worth it.
You definitely want to createthis list, start working on it
for next year, and definitely, you know this is going to allow
(13:18):
you to have quiet time, to beable to sit with a good book.
Sometimes you just have a cupof tea or coffee.
You can do it in the mornings, you could do it at lunchtime or
evenings, whenever your heartdesires, but it's something that
definitely every woman shoulddo.
Amiga, we have 90 days, sowe're trying to be productive,
(13:41):
we're trying to do all thesethings that we're trying to
squeeze them in before the endof the year, but one of the most
important things that we needto do is to be well organized.
So as I was organizing myworkspace.
Today I figured, oh, I shouldadd a list and give you guys a
couple of tips on achieving themaximum productivity while
(14:03):
you're doing a job and how doyou organize your workspace so
that you can boost yourproductivity.
So let's go over some of themquickly.
You can declutter your space, remove anything that's
unnecessary from your desk anddrawers.
You want a clean workspacethat's going to help you reduce
stress and improve your focus.
You want to create a filingsystem.
(14:24):
I love using a label maker, sosometimes I just I even put
labels on my desk so that Idon't know what the piles of
paper are.
I do still have paper a lot, trying to transition, as the you
know, every day more and moreinto paperless, but paper is
still available, at least in my,in my world.
(14:45):
So sort your paper by date orproject or priority whatever is
best for you and just having itin a systematic way.
Keep your desk clear.
You know you want it to beclear.
Clutter you want to have spaceon your desk so that you can
have a notebook, your computer,a keyboard and your phone.
(15:06):
Use a planner or an onlinecalendar.
That's really important, evenif you don't want to use a
planner.
I have both planners and onlinecalendars probably too much.
I like to see things on papersometimes, but this is going to
allow you to track yourappointments, your deadlines,
your tasks.
It will keep you on top of yourwork.
(15:27):
It's going to ensure that youdon't miss anything.
That's important.
And one thing that I've improveda lot in my workspace is
lighting, and I realized that Ineed.
I didn't have adequate lightingin my office, so I called in
this company and I addedoverhead lighting, because I was
using at my home office lampsand in order to avoid straining
(15:51):
my eyes and fatigue, the naturallight wasn't enough.
I needed some extra light.
So invest in a good lamp.
Make sure you have a good desklamp.
Definitely have ergonomicequipment your chair, your desk.
I have one of those desks nowthat can rise.
It's a standing desk.
(16:12):
I can stand, I can sit.
It helps with my back.
It allows me to decrease backpain and neck pain and strains
and to avoid strains or injuries.
And then, finally, I would say, take breaks.
You want to take breaksthroughout the day?
Walk around, stretch your legs, rest your eyes.
(16:34):
That's going to help you tokeep refreshed and focused.
Amiga, we can be productive.
We still have 90 days.
Review your yearly to do lessyour goals less.
Participate in Operation Santa, read some fantastic books, make
sure you have an organizedworkspace.
Those were just a few of mysuggestions of things you can do
(16:58):
for these last 90 days.
Also really important don'tforget to engage in regular
exercise, eat a healthy andbalanced diet, meditate,
practice mindfulness and, whennecessary, always seek support
from friends and family.
These last 90 days of the yearpresent us a unique opportunity.
(17:19):
Take the time to reflect, toplan, to take action.
We can always work towardsachieving our personal and
professional goals.
We have the power to improveour overall quality of life and
set ourselves up for successthis year and in the years to
come.
I really believe in you.
(17:39):
The beginning is always today.
I love that quote.
It was written by Mary Shelley.
She was the author who wrotethe book Frankenstein, and that
is so true.
We don't have to wait till theend of the year.
Remember, take things one stepat a time and celebrate your
progress along the way.
