Damaris Ramirez (00:05):
Hello and welcome to Amiga's let's Talk
the show, where we discuss lifeand business and everything in
between.
I am your host, demaris Ramirez, and every week we will bring
you stories and insights, hopefully to inspire you to
think differently.
My goal is that every womanlives her best life.
So, amiga, grab a cup of coffeeor tea and let's talk.

(00:26):
Today I was preparing for thePowerhouse Women Conference
later this week.
That's going to be held inScottsdale, arizona, so it's
doing a lot of packing, planning, and I got to thinking, maybe,
that the ladies here in thiscommunity might want to know
what are my travel tips.
So I put together 10 tips thatI think every woman should know.

(00:49):
These are from my personaltravel experience and also the
years that I spent traveling forwork, and I thought I would
share them with you and that way, hopefully, this will make your
travel experience a littleeasier, whether it's for
business or personal.
So let's get started.

(01:12):
So, amiga, number one, I suggestthat you get the pre-TSA of the
Global Entry Approval.
You can do both of these onlineWith the Global Entry.
It usually includes the pre-TSA.
So you basically, if you applyfor Global Entry, you end up
getting Global Entry and thepre-TSA With the Global Entry.

(01:33):
That one's more geared towardsinternational travel and it's
good for five years and itallows you to have expedited US
Custom screening.
So in that sense it's verybeneficial.
The pre-TSA is faster to getthe approval.
It's also for five years.

(01:54):
For both you're going to needto pre-enroll online and then
you make an in-personappointment.
I do think that with the pre-TSAnow they also have walk-in
centers after you do thepre-enrollment online.
But I would say, check onlineon the tsagov website for the

(02:15):
up-to-date instructions.
Also, don't worry about thein-person appointment.
It's approximately it saysonline 10 minutes but honestly,
even with my Global Entry, itwas like five minutes.
They're just basically going toreview your application, but
review everything online on thewebsite.
This is going to allow you togo through the tsa pre-check

(02:39):
line, the pre-TSA.
It allows you to keep yourshoes on, keep your laptop in
your bag and overall I find thatit's a better experience than
even the priority line.
The only thing is it's notavailable in all airports, but
it is at over 200 plus airportports and you know the way I see

(03:03):
it.
That's good enough for me.
Number two we have to get thosepacking cubes and shoe bags.
They are fantastic.
They're the bags that havezippers that allow you to
separate your clothes in yoursuitcase.
They have them also for shoesand dirty laundry.
We don't want to throw ourdirty shoes in with our clean

(03:27):
clothes.
I would say a word of caution, though, that not all of these
cubes are the same.
I did purchase some on Amazonand unfortunately the zipper was
not a fantastic.
It would sometimes get caughton my clothes, so I didn't like
that.
I'm sure they have better ones, but at least the ones I

(03:49):
selected were not that great.
But you can look around a lotof the department stores or like
Target, walmart, they alsocarry them, and you know I
separate different types ofclothing into different cubes.
So I might have one for shorts,I might have another one for
t-shirts, another one fordresses, and sometimes I don't

(04:12):
wear all the clothes that I takein my suitcase.
I always say I'm going to takeless, but I mean I just
sometimes I take too muchclothes and so it's just nice to
keep it folded in the cube andyou know, when I get back home I
could just hang it up again ifI didn't wear it.
So it also helps to protectyour clothes from any spills If

(04:33):
you have your toiletry bag inyour suitcase, or if it's
raining and your suitcase is outin the rain trying to get
loaded onto the plane.
I think it's not waterproof butit could potentially protect a
little bit your clothes, especially if you have a cloth
suitcase.
So definitely get the packingcubes in the shoe bags.

(04:55):
Number three get some Apple Airtags.
These are good to be able totrack your important items.
So I have placed one in mybackpack, one in my laptop bag,
one in my suitcase.
They give me peace of mind.
I like to know that.
I can go into my phone, into myapp, and I am able to see where

(05:16):
my items are.
They also send me alerts.
I think I turned it off becauseit does send you several alerts
.
It'll say your item is nolonger with you, which is a
little funny but definitelyuseful, right?
We don't want to lose our items,so you want to look around.
You can buy them in packs ofthree or four so that you can

(05:37):
get the best deal.
These would be good to have.
Also if you're traveling withchildren.
You can put it in their littlebag in case they leave their
backpack somewhere.
You'll know where they left it.
But if you don't have a iPhone, then if you have an Android, you
probably want to considergetting, maybe, the Tile Pro.

(06:00):
Or if you have a Samsung, theyhave the Samsung Smart Tag,
because the AirTags will onlywork with the iPhone.
I would say look online andcheck the specifics before you
purchase it so that you knowexactly what you're getting.
And one last note, ladies, incase you're wondering about the
privacy component of theseAirTags if someone places one in

(06:23):
your bag and you have an appand it's not yours, your phone's
gonna send you a notificationthat somebody's AirTag is in
your bag.
So don't worry.
Also, if you're thinking well,if I get a couple of AirTags, is
that gonna happen to otherpeople?
No, it doesn't.
It doesn't happen.
As long as you're not separatedby your AirTag, it won't

(06:50):
activate.
So they've figured all of thisout and it works fine.
But it is a fantastic way Say,for instance, you lose your
suitcase to figure out maybewhere it may be.
So let's get some AirTags.
Number four is extremelyimportant.
You have to take pictures ofyour important documents.

(07:12):
This will allow you to haveyour travel documents and your
ID in case you lose it or itgets stolen.
So make sure that you takepictures of it and you'll have
it somewhere in your phone andthis way, if you need to get

(07:33):
back home, they may considerthese copies and let you get
back on the plane.
Number five consider booking aday pass at one of the airline
lounges or clubs.
You don't even have to beflying that airline to buy the
one day pass.
So usually these passes rangefrom $30 to $80 for that one day

(07:56):
.
You can purchase it at the dooror book it in advance online.
What you wanna do is check thespecific airline that you're
traveling to see if you can geta day pass with them.
But if not, I was able to seethat online.
You are able to go to websitessuch as Lounge Buddy Lounge Pass

(08:19):
, plaza Premium Lounge and theClub Lounge.
Those are websites that alsoadvertise that you may be able
to get day passes at thesewebsites.
I usually stay at the UnitedClubs because most of the time I
am flying with United Airlines.
Keep in mind that I have heardthat if they're at capacity at

(08:45):
these clubs or lounges, thatthey may deny you entry.
So it might be better for youto try to get these passes in
advance if you know that youmight need it, or if you have an
important work conference thatyou wanna take, it's much easier
to do it at a lounge.

(09:05):
A lot of them also have privatespaces that you can go into so
that you can have thatprofessional conference without
all the noise from the airportand be able to have a successful
meeting.
You can get a few hours ofcomfort at these lounges, right.
Maybe your flight is delayed oryou have a long layover?

(09:29):
They have a lot of chargingstations.
They also have some free snacks, even though, I will say, in
the last couple of years thechoices have not been the best.
I know they had better choicesyears ago, but hopefully that's
all coming back.
And also keep in mind thatevery lounge is different and

(09:51):
limits may apply.
So, and also, just because youbought a pass does not mean that
you can bring in your familyand friends or children.
So I would say, check theguidelines before you buy it so
that you don't buy a pass andthen your companions aren't able

(10:14):
to go into the lounge with you.
But definitely something youshould consider.
Number six invest in gettingsome noise-canceling headsets.
They're really fantastic.
You can now get these in Amazonfor about $60.
If you wanted to go high-end,then maybe you wanna invest in

(10:35):
getting a pair of bows or Sonynoise-canceling headsets, but
those will then run you $300plus and certainly they have
even some that are moreexpensive than that.
I have had my bows for manyyears and they still work fine.
I love that they're over theear, I love that I can wear them

(10:57):
to listen to music, to sleep orto read on the plane, and it
cancels everything out, so itmakes it a really nice
experience At home.
I sometimes even use mybows-canceling headsets when I'm
trying to do homework, when I'mtrying to do PhD research, so
that I can really get into thatdeep work and into concentration

(11:21):
and not distracted abouthearing an opening door or
someone in the kitchen.
It really allows me to focus onwhat I'm doing.
And for kids, I think thiswould be even a great idea for
children to wear noise-cancelingheadsets while they're doing

(11:42):
their homework.
If they're having troubleconcentrating, try getting them
a pair, and maybe that might behelpful to them too.
Number seven don't forget yourbattery packs and your chargers.
I know this is obvious, butfrom time to time people forget.
You know we're rushing, we getdistracted, we think we put it

(12:03):
in our bag.
So what I do is usually I havea little checklist in my notes
on my phone and it just remindsme that I take my phone charger,
that I take my laptop chargerif I have a battery pack.
Did I take that?
So I go down the list and I'mchecking off that I have

(12:25):
everything, just as a doublecheck.
I also think it's a great ideafor you to purchase a small
outlet splitter.
You could get a smaller orlarge, depending if you're an
individual.
I say, go with the small onethat maybe has like three
outlets and maybe has a USB.
These are fantastic, theselittle mini extensions to take

(12:48):
on the go.
There has been times when Ihave been at the airport and all
the outlets have been taken.
This will allow you then to asksomeone to share their plug and
that you show them your outletand splitter and you say I'd
like to connect that and thenyou can.
Then I'll allow you to connectto me if that's okay with you.

(13:09):
Ask nicely, and then you'reable to plug whatever it is that
you need to charge at themoment.
The other thing is we havephones, ipads, laptops, so even
if one outlet's available, yousometimes need, especially if
your flight's delayed.
You might need more than oneplug.

(13:30):
You might need, on average, three plugs.
So invest in having a splitter.
That will help you, and it'sgreat for families too, if you
all have phones.
Also, I would say the batterypack really important because
sometimes you get on the planeit says that they have the
battery charger and they do, buta lot of times when I'm

(13:50):
connecting to that, my plugfalls out.
I don't know if it's that itgets stretched out or what the
problem is, but they don't stayput.
I'm sure others have had thesame problem and or it will go
in, stay in, but for whateverreason it's broken, it's not
working.
Maybe somebody stuck somethingin there, I don't know.
So you wanna have that batterypack so that you're never in a

(14:13):
situation where you're in a longflight, you can't watch a movie
because you don't have enoughbattery for your iPad or your
iPhone.
So make sure to bring yourbattery pack, your chargers and
that outlet splitter on everytrip that you take.
Please let me guess number eightalways travel with your meds on

(14:35):
the plane on your carry-on bag.
Never check it in with yoursuitcase.
You don't know, you might bestuck on the tarmac, you might
lose your suitcase.
Whether they're prescriptionsor over the counter, it doesn't
matter.
You may need something duringyour flight.
You know you don't want to bein a situation where you don't

(14:58):
have the meds that maybe youneed.
Don't take any chances.
Number nine did you know thatyou can file a claim if your
suitcase gets lost or damaged?
That would be even if youdidn't purchase the flight
insurance.
You should probably look at theairline's policy or call

(15:20):
customer service.
But in preparation for that, you want to take pictures of
your suitcase and the items init.
A lot of times I travel with myjewelry, electronic equipment
for my presentations and I wantto make sure that those things
come with me.
But if I do put it in acheck-in bag, I will take

(15:44):
pictures just in case somethinghappens.
And for those that purchasesuitcases that you know maybe
have batteries there's, you know, very fancy ones.
Now you want to keep thereceipt.
That way you can then have theinformation whether a picture or
the receipt to submit with theclaim.

(16:05):
Some airlines will either giveyou the money or they will just
send you a new suitcase.
So definitely check the airlinepolicy.
And finally, number 10, for ourself- care Stay hydrated.
Bring a water bottle on theplane, whether it's a water

(16:26):
bottle that you purchased at theairport or maybe you just
brought your own water bottle.
Airports now have places whereyou can fill up your bottle with
filtered water past security.
So you have to bring it in tothe airport empty and then, once
you get past security, theyhave places where you can fill

(16:48):
your bottle with filtered water, and that is definitely
something you need to havebefore you get on the plane.
You don't know, you don't evenknow if you're gonna get service
.
So there have been times that Ihave been on a flight and if
the weather is not cooperating, the pilot might tell the service

(17:11):
that they cannot stand up thatif the seatbelt is on, they.
There are times where they haveskipped their service and then
you would not be getting waterunless you ask for it.
So definitely you want to bringit on your own so that you have
it available.
It's really important whileyou're flying to stay hydrated,

(17:33):
so don't forget, always bringyour water on the plane.
I hope these were helpful andthey make your traveling
experience better, amiga.
So there you have it, my 10travel tips for you.
As said by Eleanor Roosevelt,it takes as much energy to wish
as it takes to plan.

(17:54):
So definitely plan for a goodtravel experience.
