TALK TO ME, TEXT IT

Beat the heat but beware of cold showers! Today's quick-hitting episode explores surprising summer dangers hiding in plain sight. That refreshing cold shower you're craving during this scorching heat wave? It might actually be trapping heat around your vital organs and straining your heart. Medical experts explain how the body's "cold shock response" works and why moderate cooling is safer than extreme temperature changes.

We also dive into some bizarre current events, including the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders' remarkable 400% salary increase after their fight for what they consider "livable wages." Is cheerleading meant to be a career or a stepping stone? The debate continues as their Netflix series documents their campaign for better compensation. Meanwhile, Hunter Biden's financial troubles make headlines with reports of over $50,000 in unpaid legal bills. What happened to all that art money?

The strangest story of the day explores the shocking reality of leg-lengthening surgery, recently featured in the film "Materialists." This procedure, which can cost upwards of $250,000, involves breaking leg bones and inserting expandable rods that gradually increase height as new bone forms. The extreme lengths some go to for a few extra inches raises profound questions about body image and societal expectations. Before we wrap up, we're seeking your creative suggestions for refreshing summer mocktails to beat the heat without alcohol. What's your perfect blend for staying cool while staying hydrated? Share your recipes and join the conversation!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, hello, good morning, welcome one and all.
I have four little ditties foryou this morning.
Lighthearted, easygoing sort ofthings.
I have some advice in this heatwave, if you are in the band of
the heat wave, do not take coldshowers, okay.
Here's why taking a cold showerduring a heat wave is

(00:22):
incredibly dangerous.
From the New York Post, ofcourse.
That's where I get most of mystories from is from the New
York Post.
The dog days of summer are hereand New York City is currently
experiencing a scorching heatwave, with temperatures reaching
well into the hundreds.
Same here, it's not just NewYork.

(00:43):
So when taking a chilly shower, blood vessels near your skin
constrict, which reduces bloodflow to certain areas, causing
your body to hold heat in andaround your organs, something
you don't want to happen.
And if the water temp in yourshower is borderline freezing, a
domino effect happens.

(01:03):
Your body goes into cold shockresponse, which causes the
skin's blood vessels to rapidlyconstrict, which then increases
your blood pressure.
Since the heart has to work inovertime mode, explained by the
conversation, I don't even knowwhat that is.
This is a bad news for peoplewith heart conditions, although

(01:28):
it's rare, the shockingdifference in body temperature
going from hot to cold can causean irregular heartbeat and,
worst case scenario scenario, lead to death.
But before panic sets in,jumping into a mildly cold pool,
shower or bath won't kill you.
Just be careful not to bringthe water to a freezing temp.

(01:48):
Who does that anyway?
Who gets in a first of all?
Can you even get your tap waterto freezing?
No, okay, moving on.
So I don't know how to feelabout this next story, dallas,
speaking of cold showers.
Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders howmuch do they make?
They're breaking down their400% salary increase.

(02:12):
I don't think Dallas Cowboyscheerleaders is a lifelong
career.
Obviously it's not somethingthey do full time.
From what I understand this isfrom actually page 6, which is a
section in the New York Postthe Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders
received a 400% salary increasefrom the NFL after fighting

(02:36):
tooth and nail for a livablewage.
That's not meant the DallasCowboys cowboy cheerleaders any
cheerleader is not meant to be alivable wage.
It's meant if you're doing thispart-time, it's not a career
ladies.
Uh, I don't think.
Anyway, it's a stepping stoneinto other things.
You need to have a regularcareer first, but I guess you

(03:01):
can.
I guess now they are okay.
Battle which has beendocumented in the second season
of their Netflix series.
So they have a Netflix series.
America's Sweethearts, dallasCowboys Cheerleaders will go
into effect in the upcoming 2025NFL.
This is just bullshit, if youask me.
Plus, they're bitching.
They don't have healthcare.
It's not a freaking full-timejob.

(03:23):
Women ladies, go get a regularjob like everybody else.
That's all I'm going to sayabout that.
You can go finish reading that.
It's on my X-File.
They just pissed me off.
All right.
Hunter Biden sued for over$50,000 in unpaid legal bills,
including his Delaware gun case.

(03:43):
The boy is not paying his billshis, his law, his lawyer.
He's not paying his lawyers.
What happened to all that moneythat he made from his art?
Daddy's not paying the billsanymore, apparently.
I think Biden Inc is broke.
They are broke.
Nobody wants to hear Joe Bidenin his speeches.
I don't know if any books arebeing.

(04:05):
I don't know.
I think Joe Biden might bewriting a book.
I'm not sure Hunter Biden oweshis law firm that represented
him in the federalinvestigations over $50,000.
You can go finish reading that.
I don't know that I want to getinto it.
I just think it's hilariousthat he has not paid his bills.
How about that?
Is it surprising to you, though.

(04:26):
No, all right, this next story, this next and my last story.
Men, young men, please don't dothis.
I don't know that.
The, the, the links that peoplewill go to change their
appearance just astounds me.
And this is leg lengthening.

(04:47):
I didn't think this was a realthing.
I had to look it up.
I thought this was justsomething on a TV show.
No, this is real.
Leg lengthening surgery frommaterialists which is a TV show
is real.
Here's why patients dropthousands on the Frankenstein
procedure.
Please don't do this.
Just reading the story made mylegs hurt.

(05:08):
All right, the love.
Lorne sure will go to greatlengths for a date.
In the new romantic dramaMaterialists starring Dakota
Johnson, pedro Pascal and ChrisEvans, there's conversation
around what constitutes aso-called perfect man to date.

(05:29):
Johnson's matchmaker character,lucy, describes Pascal's
statuesque character, harry, asa unicorn, good-looking, rich
and six feet tall At least nowhe is.
Later on in the movie spoileralert Lucy discovers Harry was a
five foot six before heunderwent leg lengthening

(05:52):
surgery, leaving his legs fullof scars.
Limb lengthening is a procedurethat gradually lengthens the
bones in the arms or legs over acourse of several months.
What's a couple of inches?
Lucy says to a client shining alight on the superficial aspect
of judging a person by theirheight.

(06:13):
The surgery involves breakingthe femur and or tibia,
inserting rods and turning therods by up to one millimeter per
day as new bone fills in thegap, according to the

(06:35):
international center for limblengtheningengthening.
Uh-uh, no, sir, I don't trustthis at all.
No, you could break your legsso easily after that.
The surgery can add up to sixinches in height, though most
patients gain two or threeinches.
Which is recommendedlengthening Because it's

(06:57):
considered cosmetic surgerysurgery.
It's not typically covered byhealth insurance.
Other yet sex changes are.
That's bullshit.
Sex changes should not becovered under.
All right, I'm sorry I lost.
I just this is crazy.
In the us, bilateral femorallengthening can sometimes cost

(07:18):
more than 120 000, while tibbilateral femoral lengthening
can sometimes cost more than$120,000, while tibia and
femoral lengthening combined cancost in excess of $250,000.
Wow, please don't do this men.
Please don't do this, don't.
Oh, that just sounds so painfulI wouldn't.

(07:39):
Well, I don't know.
There's got to be othercomplications to this too.
All right, that's all I've gotfor you today.
We need to move on to thequestion of the day.
Okay, how about this for a goodquestion of the day.
With the dog days of summercoming up, which are upon us
right now, actually, and withthe spirit of keeping cool

(07:59):
during this heat wave that we'reexperiencing, what is a good,
refreshing, cold beverage tohave?
What besides ice water and beer?
Beer's not really good becauseit'll dehydrate you, but in
order to keep cool, like whatkind of mocktail would you
create?
Non-alcoholic?
Um, like just goodold-fashioned sweet tea, iced

(08:25):
tea?
I mean, give me your, give me agood mocktail, a good cold,
refreshing mocktail.
Be creative.
Uh, all right, I gotta go.
Thanks for listening.
I appreciate y'all.
Love y'all bye.
