(00:02):
Welcome to Anchored Not Anxious.
This is where you gain a deepbelief your life matters to God
and discover the anchoringpractices to manage anxiety and
worry.
I'm Terri Hutchinson, your host.
What we believe about chronicanxiety and worry can hurt or

(00:26):
help us.
Here's myth number one.
Everybody has anxiety.
It's no big deal.
Truth.
Yes, everybody has an anxietyresponse.
It's our biological warningsystem, stimulating fight or
flight mode.
We need it.

(00:46):
Especially when that loose dograces toward you.
Adrenaline surges, theheartbeats faster so you can
either run or fight.
That type of anxiety is anexpected response.
Your anxiety or worry becomes abig deal when it's activated,
not by an external threat, butby what you think.

(01:10):
Anxiety or worry created byfearful thoughts or a constant
replaying of a priorconversation is a stressor.
Obsessing or what iffing about apossible negative outcome turns
the anxiety response intooverdrive.
These are just a few examples ofwhy anxiety is a big deal.

(01:37):
Myth number two.
You can ignore your chronicanxiety.
Truth.
Nearly every one of us liveswith tension or stress at low
levels.
That's life, right?
It ebbs and flows, but it's nota chronic state.
A chronic state of anxiety canresult in a diagnosed clinical

(02:03):
generalized anxiety disorderrequiring treatment and
management for quality, wholehealth..
Let's imagine a scale from zeroto 10.
Now zero to three represents theoccasional stressors.
And the eight to 10 rangerepresents clinical anxiety.

(02:25):
This leaves the range of four toseven and this represents those
of us who bear the increasingburden of anxiety and worry.
We can push it aside.
We can ignore it but eventuallyit will reach a critical point
bursting forth as high anxietyand overwhelm.

(02:49):
Ignoring it using unhealthycoping and burying it doesn't
make it lessen, or resolve.
This is the strategy I usedleading up to February, 2019.
I had a series of life changesand loss creating fear, filled
thoughts and anxiety-inducingregrets.

(03:11):
I ruthlessly shamed myself intobelieving I've got this.
I used aromatherapy oils andmassage.
I drank alcohol.
I read self-help books.
I leaned on Jesus.
And I drew back into myself andaway from people for fear they

(03:32):
would see I was not handlingeverything well.
If I had been honest withmyself, I might have avoided the
mental and emotional damage Isuffered.
I tried to ignore it.
But that strategy did not work.
Myth number three.
Christian shouldn't be anxious.

(03:54):
That shows a lack of faith andtrust in God.
Jesus knows anxiety erases yourbelief God is for you and with
you.
I let fear cause me to forget Idon't need to be afraid.
Fear's super power is it chasesaway faith.

(04:16):
Fear can chase away faith if weare not anchored to God in a
trust relationship.
But even in our trusting God,fear and anxiety try to shake us
down and storm the doors of ourtrust.
Doubt and questioning are partof the trust process and not as
sign of a lack of faith.

(04:38):
Is it possible to completelyreject doubt and absolutely
trust God in everycircumstance.?
I don't think so.
And here's why.
How many times in the Bible doesGod say be strong and
courageous?
Why does God reassure his peopleover and over that he is with

(05:03):
them.
Because we need it.
If anyone questions your faith,as you falter in your trust of
God, remember, your Savior knowsyour struggle to trust.
And there is no condemnationfrom Christ.
Examining these three beliefssurrounding anxiety help us

(05:24):
recognize anxiety can be a bigdeal.
You shouldn't ignore it.
And anxiety is not a sign of alack of faith.
So what needs to happen for usto live well?
Number one acknowledge yourongoing anxiety and worry is a
big deal and you cannot outrunit or ignore it.

(05:47):
Number two.
No shaming.
No,"I should or can do better".
Number three.
Stop comparing yourself to theother women you know.
How many women look like theyare juggling all the balls and
appear as if it's all in a day?
Maybe they are, and perhapsthese dependable, efficient

(06:09):
overachieving meeting, thedeadlines kind of women may in
fact be just as anxious as youand me.
We don't know.
Stop the comparisons.
Number four.
Live well by tracking worry andanxiety.
This gives you perspective.

(06:30):
Take the time to document howoften you feel anxious.
Determine the dominant forceactivating it.
How does anxiety affect yourmental stamina?
How does it affect yourrelationships?
Assess how much time you spendreplaying or working out that
worry or problem.

(06:52):
For some of you owning youranxiety and tracking the
triggers, maybe the first stepstoward healing.
Our soul seeks to be settled, secure, and stable.
We want to know we aren't alonewith our deepest concerns.
And we are not alone.

(07:12):
Are you able to see God as theultimate caregiver?
The one who doesn't get burnout, walk away, need a vacation or
become too burdened to carry ourload.
He never leaves your side, especially when you falter to
trust his ways.
Of course, I can appreciate yourview that God isn't all that.

(07:36):
It can be a struggle to believeGod is trustworthy and then the
test it.
I found tracking God showing upin my life is what led me to
trust him.
And maybe it will help you too.
Before we part ways, I encourageyou to fill out the anxiety
worry tracker I created tosupport your healing journey.
