Speaker 1 (00:10):
Hello and welcome to
my podcast, andrea TLC, in which
TLC stands for the Life Coach.
I am your host, andrea.
Thank you for joining me heretoday.
Today, I want to talk about thepower of goal setting and the
reason why I want to talk aboutgoal settings.
(00:33):
Because last week I really hadto sit down and set some goals
on things that I want to achieve, and so I really just needed to
have a moment and sit down andget that out of the way, and so
while I was doing that, Ithought why not just share that
(00:55):
with everyone and so I can talkabout it with you all?
So let's talk about it.
Okay, so the thing with a goalsetting goal setting isn't about
creating a to-do list.
It's about making a roadmap toyour dreams, guiding you
(01:23):
step-by-step towards yourdesired destination.
So let's start with the basics.
What is goal setting?
Okay, so goal setting is aprocess of defining specific,
measurable objectives that youwant to accomplish within a
(01:45):
certain timeframe, whether it'sadvancing in your career,
improving your health ormastering a new skill.
Setting clear goals providesdirection and motivation to kind
of feel your journey.
Motivation to kind of feel yourjourney.
(02:07):
Okay, um, how do you seteffective goals?
Um, that will help you towardsyour success.
You know how would you do that?
Well, um, a good way to do thatis first, um begin with clarity
.
Take time to envision yourideal future and identify what
(02:32):
you truly want to achieve.
You can ask yourself what isyour passion?
What are your values?
Your values, most importantly, what do you want your life to
(02:52):
look like?
Okay, so, once you have a clearvision, it's time to make them
SMART.
Smart, being an acronymS-M-A-R-T is actually an acronym
for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time
bound.
Okay, I'm going to try to breakit down.
(03:14):
Okay, so the first letter, sbeing specific, is your goals
should be clear and defined.
Instead of saying I want to getin shape, say this instead I
(03:35):
want to lose 10 pounds in threemonths.
Be more clear in what it isthat you actually want to do.
M, which is for measurable.
Be more clear in what it isthat you actually want to do.
Okay, m which is for measurable.
So your goals should bequantified so that you can track
your progress and know whenyou've achieved success.
(03:59):
This might involve settingmilestones along the way.
Okay, a for achievable.
Now, while it is important toaim high, it is equally crucial
to set goals that are withinyour reach.
Consider your resources, yourcapabilities and time frame to
(04:26):
ensure that your goals arerealistic and effective.
Attainable R is for relevant.
Your goals should align withyour values.
Your values, your priorities,long-term aspirations.
Make sure they resonate withyou on a deep level and
(04:48):
contribute to your overall senseof fulfillment and purpose.
Okay, and finally, t for timebound Set a deadline for
achieving your goals to create asense of urgency and
accountability.
This will help you stay focusedand motivated, preventing
(05:19):
procrastination and ensuringsteady progress.
Now that word procrastination.
I don't know if any of you outthere watch SpongeBob.
My kids do, I do.
I watch SpongeBob, and there'san episode of SpongeBob where
he's supposed to be writing apaper and he's clearly
procrastinating.
(05:42):
He's doing everything that hecan think of other than writing
this paper, which is due likethe next day, right?
And so I think of that asmyself.
Okay, I'm gonna talk about mefor a minute.
I tend to procrastinate indoing a task that I know needs
(06:05):
to get done.
I really don't care to do it,but it still needs to get done.
So a lot of times I'll findother things to do besides doing
that task that needs to be done.
So we're not going to do that.
You're not going to be like me.
We're going to set goals andwe're going to stick to it.
(06:28):
Okay, enough of that, okay, solet's move on.
All right, so now that youunderstand SMART S-M-A-R-T.
Understand the SMART criteria,it's time to put them into
action.
Take a moment to reflect onyour own goals and see how they
(06:50):
measure up.
Are they specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time
bound?
Okay, now just know that goalsetting is not a one-time event.
It's ongoing.
(07:12):
It's a process of reflection,adjustment and growth.
So you have to be flexible andwilling to adapt to
circumstances that may change.
So don't be afraid to dream big, always dream big, dream big,
(07:41):
always dream big.
Okay, well, with all of thatbeing said, I hope you feel
inspired and empowered to setmeaningful goals that will help
you towards the life of yourdreams.
Until next time, peace, loveand light.
