Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey guys, to another
Solidarity Danny episode.
Today I decided to watchDangerous Animals.
It is a IFC Films and Shuddermovie.
It just came out June 6th, soabout a week ago, so last week
(00:21):
and I was actually pretty hypedabout this movie.
But before I get into that, letme draw down what the movie's
about.
A shark obsessed serial killerholds zephyr, a rebellious
surfer, captive on his boat, racing against time.
She must figure out a way toescape before he carries out a
ritualistic feeding to thesharks below.
(00:42):
And my favorite thing about thismovie is the fact that it is
not necessarily a shark movie, but it's also necessarily not a
uh, just solely a serial killer,uh movie.
So Our main antagonist, tuckerjust another generosity, aussie.
(01:08):
He is very charismatic, yourperfect serial killer, honestly,
because he's able to talk topeople.
He runs a shark-seeing business, of course, and my favorite
thing about this movie is justhow different it is.
I particularly can't think ofany kind of film that might do
(01:30):
this with other animals off thetop of my head.
But I love shark movies, as weknow in the past of apartment
theater, and I really wish I gotJustin to watch it because I
just, I really want to know hisopinion on this because he hates
shark movies and not making theshark the villain is so
(01:51):
refreshing because just in anyshark movie nowadays it's just
sharks being bloodthirstymonsters.
And this whole movie is justabout the serial killer who is
obsessed with filmmaking like hemakes a film of the killings
(02:15):
sharks eating the people, thegirls mostly he does, of course,
to just women.
I like the titles dangerousanimals, because it's really
like who is the dangerous animalhere?
And he uses sharks, I thinkalso therapeutically, because he
speaks in the beginning how hewas almost killed by a shark and
(02:36):
he survived and that gives himthis godplex.
And that's just in that.
Because he's got this new godplex, he has to try to watch
other people die.
So he runs this business.
He gets people and feeds themto a shark.
Uh, he cuts off the girl's hairbefore he kills them and adds
(03:01):
them onto a fish hook, which Ithought was very cool.
And, um, he does this all witha old vha vhs film camera and
that plays a role because ourmain character, zephyr, who
(03:22):
falls in love.
Well, they quickly fall in love, um, by the end, I'd hope so.
So let's backtrack to Zephyr.
Zephyr, our very rebellioussurfing chick.
She, she's all about the surflife and she finds this guy.
(03:42):
They have a one-night stand andhe becomes thusly obsessed with
her and, honestly, hisobsession with her is what saved
her in this movie.
If he was not hell-bent ontalking to her again she'd be
dead.
So you know, hey, why not, Iguess?
(04:04):
So she has this one-night standwith this guy and then she
leaves early before he's able tomake her this beautiful
breakfast which she sends her apicture of, to go surfing.
And that's when Tucker sees herby herself and knocks her out
(04:26):
by suffocation and brings heronto the boat.
We see the couple in thebeginning.
We see the first cup.
Uh, the couple in the beginning.
Uh.
We see the girl again uh.
So you get the taste of himbeing a serial killer.
By killing her, uh, friend.
Uh, by stabbing him a bunch oftimes and throwing him into the
(04:47):
water of sharks.
Uh, for him to captive her andthen pick up Zephyr.
That girl dies sadly by beingeaten by sharks.
It does give actual facts, which I find pretty cool, where
(05:11):
sharks are getting fed by boatsso much it's creating a
dangerous situation where sharksare correlating boats with food
.
So him doing this is nowcreating correlation with all of
his films that, like he couldbring the sharks and sharks.
Sharks will eat the people, even though when they normally
(05:32):
don't have the taste for humanflesh, most of the time it's
mistake of prey.
That's why you do get yourrandom man-eater of a shark, but
most of the time people arejust missing limbs and they die
from the injuries opposed to theactual animal because the shark
bites.
(05:52):
They die from the injuriesopposed to the actual animal
because the shark bites and it'stoo much for our feeble little
bodies and you bleed out or losea limb.
Bleed out, it's never anythingelse and a lot of times some of
the sharks do actually spit upthe limb and stuff too.
(06:13):
So I just really like this fact.
We're going into a serialkiller movie with proper shark
information and not falseinformation like all of the
shark movies that I do love, butthey do push.
So Zephyr is now with this othergirl, uh.
(06:34):
She's starting to learn howdrastic the situation is and she
, when she watches the othergirl, uh, get fed alive to the
sharks as he records it, and herecords it to save.
And each vhh tape has, like, the girl's name on the side and
whatnot.
Because he gets the girl's namesomehow, like he creates a,
because he gets the girl's namesomehow, like he creates a whole
(06:55):
ritual out of this.
And let me tell you what, though If, like, the girls gave
him a fake name, I feel he wouldbe very upset by this fact,
because he is now not able to dosomething repetitively that he
needs to get done, but movingforward.
He needs to get done, butmoving forward.
So our obsessed man, who'sobsessed with Zephyr in the
(07:19):
manner he wants to just be withher, he figures out and starts
putting stuff together that shewas stolen, opposed to just
disappear, like because shelives out of her car.
He sees her car getting towedand how, like, well, alright,
that's weird, because she toldme she lives out of her car.
(07:41):
And obviously you get it, youget it.
I don't need to explain it toomuch, you get it.
So I'm over explaining it.
But whatever, we continueforward.
And he gets, he finds out the, the, the, this guy's like
(08:05):
business or whatever, and hegets to the boat, he finds her.
He gets into a mess with thepolice.
He almost gets in contact withthe police.
He calls them and you thinkthey would still send somebody
out to like the location orsomething, because on the phone
he they hear struggle, help andnothing but uh.
(08:26):
This sets place in australiaand I don't know how the 911
facility works in Australia.
I just know that in the moviethey did not send anybody out.
The murderer, tucker, focuses onforeigners and I'm assuming
that's just because it's easierto get rid of foreigners.
People will stop looking whenthey're foreigners, opposed to
(08:49):
local.
And that is the one point thatZephyr tries to point out to him
.
When he goes to kill Tucker, after beating him up to create a
matinee, which I thought was avery clever line, when he tries
to feed to the sharks in thedaytime and he was like time for
a matinee I was like that's apretty clever line, I like that
(09:11):
line.
But yeah, so all kinds ofbumblefuck happens and he
doesn't get Ian.
He ends up back on the shipbecause things are flying around
or helicopters are flyingaround, and so then he stabs him
a couple times.
So now for the rest of the movie.
(09:32):
Moses, I think, was his name.
Pretty sure it was Moses.
Yeah, it's Moses, it's justbleeding out.
So I give him credit that hedoesn't die from bleeding out.
But hey, on the first night ofthis too they also see a party
(09:59):
boat and they live in their bestlife.
We'll circle back around to theparty boat because the party
boat is important Unironically.
So the rest of the movie isjust struggle.
She gets away, gets captured, gets away, gets captured.
There's actually, uh, thesecond time she gets away, um,
(10:19):
and he is tugged like tucked, chugging back to his boat with
her because she jumped over theedge, just swum to like the and
got to land or whatever.
But he um got her and at thispoint, uh, she bit off her own
thumb to get her hand out ofhandcuffs and stuff.
So she's kind of like a littlelacking on like blood too and
(10:39):
strength.
So she ain't doing too hot.
But if they ended it on thatclip of him going back to the
boat, I probably this moviewould be in the 90 percent.
Like there there's a lot ofpeople giving this really high
ratings and really like diggingthe idea of this movie, but I
think that would have like justgone so exceptional.
(11:01):
Unfortunately, it would leaveit open and for them to make
sequels and serial killer movies.
I just it's really difficult tomake a sequel of them, honestly
, without them being shitty, butI just it.
It would add so much if theyjust ended it there, because I
think there's like 15 minutesleft of the movie anyways.
(11:22):
Uh, so it wouldn't have cut toomuch time, honestly, but that's
just me.
So we get her back on the boatand now she's hanging and moses
is in where she was and a hugeGreat White like um, like we're
talking Jaws kind of level GreatWhite Like this is a monstrous
(11:44):
Great White.
That would be like baby.
Uh, wow, I can't think of thestupid Megalodon.
There we go.
Shit, that name just likesoared in my brain.
Could not think of that.
And your typical twist, for thematter Tucker does get eaten by
(12:08):
the shark, you know, and hereaches for help because she's
totally going to help him aftereverything that he's done.
But he gets eaten by the sharkand at some point in the movie
it shows that the boat was on Eanyway.
So I was kind of making alittle bit of a joke.
(12:29):
Wouldn't it be horrible thatthey get rid of the guy?
But now they have no gas to getto land and they're just
floating there and they just diebecause they're stuck out at
sea.
But at this point it'snighttime because he likes to
make his movies at nighttime andthe party boat's back.
She sets off a flare and theparty boat sees it and they come
(12:53):
back and save the day and shesays her reasoning to be on land
again is Moses and they fall inlove.
Yay, actually it's a romancemovie, it's not a horror flick.
All in all, it's a pretty goodmovie.
It's got a different twist toit for once.
(13:14):
It's just for once.
It's just for once.
It's interesting to watch.
It is predictable so, but it'sentertaining at the same time,
but very predictable.
The acting is good, like Ithink all the actors did a great
job.
The film angles were all good.
(13:36):
I did watch mine not in thetheater, so not the best of
qualities.
So I can guarantee it probablyhas better quality in the actual
theater, but I definitelysuggest it.
That's not really all I got tosay.
I straight up just told you theplot line and everything that
(13:59):
happened in it.
So sorry, not sorry, go watchit.
Anyways, it's decent.
Maybe I can get Justin back onfor a double take and get him to
watch it, because we all knowif you've been hanging around
the apartment theater for adouble take and get him to watch
it, because we all know.
If you've been hanging aroundthe apartment theater for a
(14:20):
while for the past three years, you'd know how much Justin hates
shark movies.
Not because, like, he's scaredof sharks or anything, just
because how fucking stupid hethinks they are, and it's just
like that's the appeal of them.
They're dumb, like obviouslythis shit's never gonna happen,
(14:45):
so the shark has to be likebloodthirsty or whatever for it
to actually theoretically workproperly.
But that's yeah, that'severything I got to say about it
.
It's good.
I told you word for word.
I didn't there's like details Imissed, but that's for the best
, I guess, because now you cango watch and be like oh, she
(15:05):
didn't mention that and maybethat was my whole plan.
Not really, because I kind ofjust talk.
I don't plan out what I saybefore I talk.
I, as you probably can assume,I don't plan out what I say
before I talk, as you probablycan assume.
That's how you know I mean whatI say.
(15:27):
Yeah, anyways, all right, nowI'm just rambling.
So, on that note, go watch themovie I'm trying to get Justin
in cast to see.
See, let Her Go, I believe, isthe actual title.
Maybe it's Bring Her Back.
Bring Her Back Whatever.
(15:50):
I hear great things about that,so hopefully we could get an
episode out about that soon.
Me and Justin still streamdaily on our own channels and we
try to stream every Friday atleast on the Apartment Theater's
YouTube channel to just somehorror games and have some fun.
So we're still around.
Catch Justin over at DigitalBon Bon on YouTube and then
(16:12):
myself Cuddly Macaroon acrossTwitch, youtube, tiktok and uh,
get the fuck out, bye.
