From his role as a Missile System Operator and Squad Leader during Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield with the Marine Corps to his leadership position as a Psychological Operations Tactical Team Leader during the Global War on Terror with the Army, Jerry's roles have been both diverse and impactful.
His unparalleled commitment was tragically underscored on October 29, 2005, when in Iraq, Jerry's humvee was ambushed with an IED, taking the lives of two soldiers and leaving him with life-threatening injuries. A testament to his spirit, Jerry has endured over 80 surgeries since that fateful day and was awarded the Purple Heart by President George W. Bush during his recovery at Brooke Army Medical Center. Moreover, Jerry's distinguished military career is punctuated with multiple accolades, including being named Soldier of the Year and Noncommissioned Officer of the Year four times, as well as a myriad of military decorations like the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal with “C” device, and many others.
