Antes de entrar en diferencias, aclaremos qué son. Tanto la cadena de tiempo como la banda de tiempo o sistemas de engranes de tiempo son componentes esenciales del motor. Su función principal es sincronizar el giro del cigüeñal y el árbol de levas, lo que permite que las válvulas del motor se abran y cierren en el momento adecuado para que la combustión ocurra de manera eficiente.
Sin esta sincronización, el motor simplemente no funcionaría bien o, peor aún, podría sufrir daños graves.
